Belizean Dreams Resort - Hopkins

The resort was beautiful, the service was great and the food served was tremendous, however it was nearly impossible to get to. If you choose to drive from Belize City like we did, it is about a 3 hour drive with the last 1/2 of the trip on pot-hole ridden roads, some paved and some dirt with some so bad you can only travel 15 mph.

This is a really great hotel at a very beautiful place - even for a family with three kids. A bit like heaven on earth. The staff is extremely friendly and always at your help. The only "negative remark" we have to make is in regards of their restaurant. They have a good choice of different breakfasts which are all very good. But they should "improve" […] their dinner menu. We have tried other restaurants which are within reach on the beach offering a better choice and a higher quality. Nice, clean rooms with beautiful views and good food at the restaurant. Clean, well kept grounds. Most of the staff is super friendly and helpful. We were disappointed in a few things. 1st they overbooked our room, having paid in full 7 months prior we did not appreciate being given a larger first floor room without a view instead of a private 2nd floor […] room, then having to change rooms midway through the stay. They were unapologetic and acted like we were being done a favor, when really it was an inconvenience. 2nd they did not deliver on the activities promised. We talked to them repeatedly before our stay about booking scuba diving, then a week before we came we found out their partner resort for diving was closed the month of our stay and the only option they would offer was almost twice the (already inflated) price advertised. This was very poor communication and we felt mislead. When we arrived we did manage to find a local company willing to take us out to Glover's Reef if we could get another couple to join us. So we asked the hotel staff to check with the other divers staying there in case anyone wanted to join us. They told us they asked and the other guests weren't interested. Needless to say, when we met the other guests, they were very disappointed to miss an opportunity to go and had NOT been asked by the hotel staff (so they lied). To top it off, when we checked out they tried to charge us for almost $300 in food and drinks we had not ordered. Read more

We've traveled around the world,and this is the place that felt like home...maybe even better lol. The road to Belizean Dreams is rough and rocky and the village is nothing to look at BUT the resort more than makes up for it. Gorgeous, tropical, emaculate. From the moment we arrived it was even better than the pictures made it look, but that is nothing […] compared to the warmth, kindness and genuiness of the staff. And I mean litereally every staff member was like that. So much so that I've only been home a few hours and have already added many of them on facebook, and shared my copy of 50 Shades of Grey with the girl who cleaned our room. I'm telling you this isn't customer service, it's more like staying with family ! The rooms are gorgouse, and very clean, and not a bad view in sight. Just a few steps through lush tropical gardens and your at the bar and the beach. This is the places to chat with the staff and get a feel for the village, or you can just relax in complete privacy. Dinner at the resort was delicious and for breakfast you must try the banana pnacakes and anything with Marie Sharps. But you def want to take a golf cart into town, so make friends with Arnold and he will show you how to drive it like a pro lol The resort next door, Joes Place is owned by a great American couple and you cant beat the view from their rooftop deck. This is my favorite destination for many reasons, but the staff here are world class, kind, funny and very hard to leave behind :) Read more

Stayed for 7 nights. Great hotel. Has a nice pool and is located right on the beach. Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful with giving directions and recomendations.

The staff was nice, the room was nice, and the grounds were well kept. Unfortunately the entire time we were there no internet was available, and the manager didnt seem that concerned about the problem. There are small flying insects are the shoreline that hurt like heck when they bite and leave literally hundreds of bites on you before you know it. […] When the breeze is up it is not as bad.The hotel restaurant was okay but WAY overpriced for the portions and food in general in the area, it is a heck of a walk into town and it rained pretty much every night, so not a fun walk. I suggest renting a car if you stay here, although it is fairly far from the airport and roads in the area are not great. I think it would have been a better location if more excursions were scheduled by the resort, instead we asked locals and kind of found our own way around, if you are going for fishing I would suggest staying in Placencia instead, if you are going for nightlife and more to do, stay in Ambergris. Resort was beautiful, very relaxing and the staff was great. Few things we never really figured out: 1) we heard dinner was very expensive at the resort so we eat elsewhere most of the time. We decided to eat there one night and it was wonderful and well priced! Few nights later we decided to eat there again and it was extremely expensive! not sure […] what the deal is there? 2) happy hour at the bar, was good. Although sometimes it was 50% of everything, other times it was by 1 get one free and sometimes it was rum drinks only? seemed to depend on who was working or who you got to mix your drinks. Bottom line is ask about everything, everytime. lots of new staff and the concistency of items like this showed. All in all a great time, great people and the village is amazing. Hotel was nice. They need to check things like hair dryers and other ammenities for proper operation. Their kayaks need a little work (missing plugs, broken paddles, life jackets are kind of delapitated. Overall a nice place to stay. Staff was excellant and very cordial towards guests. A little over-priced for what was available.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Great location, lots of fabulous restaurants within walking distance, diving, fishing, hiking all good. Bring DEET for jungle hikes and sand fleas. Visit the culture of the town of Hopkins to enhance your trip. Belize people are super friendly and nice.

Our stay at Belizean Dreams was greeted by very accommodating staff members, hensel and Ian the general manager were very professional on handling our stay, and we had an amazing time. The management company that handled the daily routine of Belizean Dreams made sure that we were kept within our needs, and that we had our tours scheduled and proceeded […] with care. Since we had one full day of tropical rain fall, the mgmt company even rescheduled our tours to make sure and confirm that we would have a pleasant journey. The rooms were well kept, simple but adequately organized. Not entirely contemporary however definitely suited the tastes of the local style, with a modern twist. The in house breakfast were adequate but nothing to brag about. Yet, we would not recommend the lunch menu as the choices were too 'American' for a foreign location- we are those who prefer local cuisines when we travel to foreign lands, however for those who like American tastes, this might suit well. we recommend chef rob's down at Parrot cove for dinners, and local tastes within Hopkin's Village (a bike ride away, and belizean dreams lend free bikes) which is well worth the 10min bike ride. Local tastes of which we enjoyed were Innies and Yugadah cafe, both of which only accept cash, so bring spare cash if you're planning to eat local as the resort is the only location that accepts credit. The hotel is small, it has only 6 villas and they are beatuiful, they are next to the sea with an incredible sea breeze. We rented a car and drove from Belize City. We were given great instructions. The entire staff was great! We rate this as our best ever trip and we have traveled much. My wife had a massage almost every day. Very clean and safe place. I went on three fishing trips booked thru the lodge and they were all great. We also highly recomend the Zip line trip. […] The entire place was great. Hopkins was close enough that we went to the store daily. Every person we spoke to was nice in Hopkins. About driving from Belize City, the rental cars are not new like here in the USA and the roads are not as good. If you are not the adventorous type do not do it! I am 48 years old and had my youngest son and his wife were with us and we all had a blast. You can not beat this lodge so stop looking and book your trip! This resort is absolutely beautiful and very well maintained. The staff are very warm and friendly and the service is excellent, although we did have some issues with the office being closed and its personnel inaccessible on occasion (for booking excursions and the like). We did not rent an entire bungalow since there were only 2 of us -- my daughter […] and I. Our room had no phone and no TV -- only the bare essentials of a bed and bathroom. Activities on the resort were limited and unless you took an excursion -- there was only the pool and kayaks. No place to snorkel off of the beach (nothing to see) and no form of resort entertainment. Excursions were WAY overpriced -- for example: our trip to the Mayan ruins was 36% more than the Expedia price. We also checked out the same trip at the resort next door and were quoted approximatley half the price per person that we paid at Belizian Dreams, leaving us feeling ill-used and ripped off. If you're looking for total relaxation, this is a great place but we stayed 9 days...far too long with little to do unless we wanted to drop huge sums of money on constant excursions. We would have been much happier at Coco Plum, the sister resort. Bottomline: bring lots of books to read or make your stay on the short side. Read more

Driving through the country side on the way to Belizian Dreams was incredible and beautiful. However, it became apparent quickly that the people of Belize don't have the resources that we have here in the United States. After passing a few run down resorts I wondered what Belizian Dreams would be like. Upon arriving there my fiancée and I were 100% […] satisfied with the aesthetics and location. The staff was incredible. They were truly happy serve us and we became friendly with them in no time. They consistently went above and beyond what is expected to make sure we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The rooms were extremely clean and well maintained. There was always fresh bottled water in our private kitchen. The food was great as well. The beach was well groomed and they even spray every morning for beach bugs. You wouldn't thin this to be important except that after meeting some travelers that stayed at another beach front resort (that doesn't spray their beach) it was obvious by looking at all their bug bites that not all resorts spray their beaches. We got married at our resort and I can't begin to tell you how 1st class of a job the entire staff did in organizing and pulling off the wedding. We'll return to Belizian Dreams again for sure! The resort is very nice but very basic. No TV or wifi in the rooms and for several days there was no wifi at all due to an electrical storm. The village of Hopkins only has limited items so make sure to bring everything you need. The resort doesn't offer much in the way of helping you get out and finding things to do outside of the services they provide […] but their staff are extremely nice and made the trip much better than it could have been.
