If you're on a budget, this is a nice hotel to stay at. The location is perfect. A couple of minutes from subway. The staff was very friendly and helpful. He spoke English. Gave us maps of the city and the routes for subways. This hotel is also a minute away from the main train station! which was awesome. Can't ask for a better location.

This hotel provides a comfortable stay overall. The hotel is well-maintained and clean. I also stayed at Hotel Eden Wolfe, so here are a few pros and cons comparing both hotels: CONS: -Eden hotel had a more updated TV and warmer room ambiance (paintings on the wall, carpeting). Hotel Amba was more bare bones. -I could smell cigarette smoke wafting […] in from outside or another room (I stayed in a non-smoking room). -Eden operates with electronic key so you don't have to drop off a key with the reception. At Amba, you leave the key at the front desk when you leave. PROS: -Eden hotel takes a photocopy of your passport for anyone who is uncomfortable with the idea. Amba does not. -Eden hotel does not offer breakfast in their pricing (an extra 18E per person#, Amba's rate includes a free breakfast buffet consisting of cold cuts, bread, yogurt, eggs, fruit, etc. Bottom line: I would stay at either hotel again as both hotels are located right across the street from the Munchen Hauptbanhof, and both are clean and comfortable. Amba is the more economical choice #cheaper rate and breakfast included which can save you about 20 Euro a day). If your main goal is to have a base of operations near public transportation and a clean/comfortable place to sleep since you'll be out and about most of the time for sight-seeing, I would choose Amba. Each member of the staff made every effort to welcome me and help me get accustomed to my first Munich visit. You can't find a more convenient hotel to the train station or Lufthansa Airport bus at these prices, and the breakfast is a five-out-of five...and despite its location right on a very busy street, it is quiet inside...though there are some […] quirks to the place...My mattress had been worn a little too long, it was a double room but the smallest of such for the four hotels I stayed at, and the free internet set up...only available in the lobby for free and the username and password are good for only a half hour and then the staff renews it with a new username and pass word. There is a secure lockup for your valuables in the staff office and access is easy and courteous, there are reasonably priced refreshments at the front desk. And within steps is a fun Augustiner biergarten and many affordable places to grab a quick meal or dine well. I would recommend a larger room for two but this place is a find! Read more

Staff was great, breakfast was ample. Rooms are clean,but some have extremely small bathrooms. Internet system is a disaster though. 9 euros a day is very high (for in room use), free in the lobby, but only in half hour increments, which is disruptive and frustrating. Overall, it is a good value for the money and the locaiton is very convenient.

Hotel location is perfect since it is close to the city center where there are lots of places to eat , visit and shop. Train station is just across the street so you can use S8 rail to get to the hotel from the airport and vice versa. Almost all Viator tours originate in front of the Karstad shopping mall which is just a 5 minute walk from the hotel. […] Breakfast is excellent with scrambled & boiled eggs, selection of bread & cold cuts, cereals and fruits. I really love this place. Nice hotel, excellent customer service, and a very convinient location. I will definently stay at this hotel again. What I love the must is that the train station was right infront of the hotel which made it easier to move around the city.

Super location right across street from Munich main train station - you cannot get closer unless hotel is attched to train station! Also good is the morning breakfasts, and woman at front desk (very knowledgeable!). The bad: elevator is maybe 3' x 4'. Can only hold 3-4 people, or 2 w/luggage, and is slow. The rooms are okay, but the doors on them are […] extremelt loud when they close, and mine actually hit a supply closet door that was open every morning, slamming VERY loudly into it! The showers, I kid you not, are 3' x 3' AT BEST, possibly a bit smaller - think getting a shower in a phone booth! If you drop anything in there, you cannot bend over, but must bend your knees and go strait down to get it back! If you are over 250 pounds, I doubt that you'll fit in there, not exaggerating! One more bad - the internet terminal. I got on it easy enough, and it is free, but, rather than a mouse, they have a built-in track ball, and the right and left mouse keys are buttons above the trackball on the brushed steel keyboard - not very intuitive at all, and it refreshed very slowly - pretty much unusable unless you want to spend an hour. Hard to find a REAL buffet breakfast in Munich for no additional charge. That in itself was worth it. Just a stone's throw from Marienplatz & Oktoberfest. Very convenient hotel in close proximity to Munich central train station. Easy to reach from airport. The staff is very friendly, breakfast is great. Rooms and bathrooms are fairly small but are clean and have everything that is needed.

Hotel Amba is an older hotel and the rooms show this although it is decorated beautifully. Our room was small with just a small aisle on either side of the bed. It was comfortable but a little stuffy. There was also no AC but pretty loud with the windows open at night. I picked this hotel because we had to catch a flight out of Munich airport the next morning. It was a very affordable choice, and only steps away from the train station. Check-in was fast and easy. Very comfortable bed. Everything was clean and new except the carpet in the room.it needed replacement. That was my only complaint. It's never fng to be a 4 or 5 star hotel, but the location is perfect for access to the HBF, and the breakfast is quite nice.

It was a very good value and we were very comfortable! We went out for the evening, left the windows open and it poured rain! On our return the front-desk staff quickly came up and changed the bed and even took my Granddaugters clothes to dry! It was totally our fault but they were so nice and heplful about the situation! I booked this hotel after looking at photos on line and reading other reviews. I wanted something convenient that wouldn't break the bank. I have to admit I was a littlle nervous opening the door to the room. It was pretty small, especially by US standands and the bathroom was teeny. The carpet was a bit drab also. The hotel is located right across the street from a central train station (hauptbahnohof). It is not in a prime location but very convenient in term of transportation. Easy to get to and from airport using Lufthansa bus service. It runs every 20 minutes and cost 10.50 euros one way. Bus #100 stops across the street and will bring you to all museums. […] Day ticket for up to 5 people (Partner-Tagescarte) that can be used on any bus or tram costs 10.20 euros. You can buy it form a service desk at the hotel or from a vending machines on any tram stop. If you stay longer it make sense to by a three day ticket which cost 23.70 euros. We came almost three hours before standard check-in time but were offered a breakfast and the room was ready soon after. Maybe it was because we were staying for 8 nights. This hotel is just of the grid from the main Strase in Munich; the hotel is old and was being worked on on the floor where our room was. The rooms are clean but old; tv's are still the old kind and they have wireless but you pay extra for it. not much to see in the lobby; its just a good place to sleep.

Hotel Amba is in a great location, close to all the action with places to eat and easy transportation all around. The hotel offers a garage to park in, and is easy to get to around in the back of the hotel, though the incline is quite a steep angle - not the easiest for a manual transmission to make it up slowly. The garage and lobby all connect by […] stairs and the lift - a small elevator just big enough for two people and their luggage, which is convenient enough. The person checking us in was helpful and very nice. The keychain itself for the room key is a big, decorative piece and looks like something you would put on your wall. You are supposed to turn it in when you leave, and pick it up when you return to the hotel, which we did and was simple enough. The room appears small at first when compared with typical large American hotel rooms, but my wife and I found it easy to get used to within a few minutes. The bathroom was very modern and offered a towel warmer, hot and strong water pressure for the shower, with plenty of lighting and enough space to move about comfortably. The small TV in the corner of the room reminds you of how unimportant it is, compared with all the action going on outside, though you wouldn't know it, as the walls do a good job of keeping the room quiet all the time. The bed is extremely comfortable, so much so that as a traveler fresh off the plane, the first time I hit the soft mattress pad and pulled the blanket up, I was out for 6 hours straight with my wife also enjoying jet lag recovery with the help of a few extra pillows the hotel gave to us as soon as we requested them. Overall, of course a hotel experience can vary greatly from one person to the next, but as a frequent traveler through the US and not as often in Europe, this hotel and the staff there really helped the transition between timezones and familiarity go rather smoothly. I would definitely stay here again for business or vacation. Read more
