Our family had a one night stop over stay but we would have liked to have stayed longer. The hotel and it's staff were welcoming without being overbearing. The rooms were comfy, adequately spacious, very clean and fresh. We really enjoyed our breakfast and the choice was excellent. "Would definitely stay again, although...."
We enjoyed our stay although there were one or two niggles.... There was no air conditioning in our room and it was so stuffy that we had to have the window open overnight, meaning the noise of traffic was a bit of a hindrance to sleep. When we went to breakfast we were not initially told it was buffet style so sat like eejits for 5 mins until someone […] came and told us. Would also suggest breakfast staff keep a closer eye on ensuring there are juice glasses, butter etc. Apart from that, it was fab! Super comfy bed, great shower with plenty of hot water and power. We were lucky to be at the front of the hotel so could see the cathedrals. Would definitely stay again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

First time ever to stay in the hotel and it was a very positive experience. Rooms were spacious and comfortable. We enjoyed a beautiful breakfast with a good variety of both healthy options and traditional Irish breakfast. Highlt recommemdedGenuine Expedia guest review
"Historical tour of local sites, e.g. emain macha"
We used public transport and taxis and found all very satisfactory. It's a great place to imbibe history from earliest times (emain macha) to recent peace initiatives. Visiting historical sites and museums was enjoyable but this was balanced by meeting very friendly, helpful and interested people. Some of the tourist literature needs updating in regard […] to opening times but generally there is lots of helpful literature available and a free book entitled 'Border Heritage' is most excellent. Didn't get it all in in our four days! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

my only complaint was that there were four of us in the room and only enough towels for 3 people..no shower caps either...out from that the staff were very friendly and the service was great...i felt safe and comfortable and will return again..well done Aarmagh City Hotel..Genuine Expedia guest review
"good fun and close to town"
Overall it was adequate.the rooms need a little attention.. If you are advertising that your hotel has a swimming pool then it should be available to your guests at all times..it is quite misleading..especially as I only booked the hotel because of the pool.. The music in the bar at the weekends is entertaining. Very friendly staff made us feel very […] welcome. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"best hotel accomodation in the city"
We have stayed several times in the Armagh City Hotel and have always had a very pleasant time. The facilities are great, the staff pleasant and courteous and cleanliless comes second nature.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel was clean comfortable and family friendly. It is based close to town but is also situated next to a historical area with beautiful scenery and walkways!! If i had anything to complain about it would b the lack of communication between reception and the LA Fitness facilities based on the basement floor. As a parent of a child with who is deaf […] with autism I need to be as prepared as possible for our day ahead. During our stay we were told we could swim at 10am and so prepared to swim we headed downstairs. After being signed in and in the changing area we were subsequently told that swimming lessons were on until 12pm and so we had to leave. This caused unnecessary upset for my child who didnt understand our change of plan!!! It is my opinion that such simple communication errors should not be occurring between services, in such an otherwise well run establishment!! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"little things could have made a great difference"
I enjoyed my stay and the staff were friendly and helpful. It would have been nice to have had bath towels instead of the quite small towells provided. It would also have been nice to have had a piece of bath soap, I for one don't want to squeeze a tube to get my hair and body shampoo from a nameless and unidentifiable liquid. Food in the Restaurant […] was good and the breakfast buffet excellent. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Armagh city Hotel"
This was my first stay in this hotel. The hotel was easy to find and was very welcoming. The rooms were pleasant and comfortable. I really like the idea of the large foyer with the coffee shop, this is a lovely idea where you can sit in comfort and have a coffee or more. Overall our stay was good but was let down by our evening meal which was cold and […] had to be sent back, however this was rectified, but could so easily have been avoided. Was located at front of hotel and was awake very early from passing traffic... would seek a room at back of hotel for next reservation... also access to leisure centre only from 15:00 - 17:00 hrs - as we checked in after 5 and checked out the next day at 12 it was of no benefit to us... disappointing!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"The City Hotel Armagh"
Enjoyed my stay in the hotel! The staff were absolutely lovely, very friendly and helpful. The only let down in my opinion was the breakfast on the morning of departure!! Having previously dined in the restaurant and found it to be very good I was surprised at the lower quality of breakfast served by the hotel! However I would use this hotel again.

"BAR STAFF NEED A BOOT UP THE REAR END!"
07/10/14 DannyReilly Dublin, Ireland
Popped in to the City Hotel for Sunday dinner having used the hotel on many occasions. Have always had my doubts about the bar area in this place as the layout is awkward to say the least. Impossible to find cosy seats that feel a little private and bringing kids along made this tougher. Anyway, we came in for food just after the carvery ended. First problem was the table, a talented surfer would struggle to balance on this thing, even with the 20 tatty bar mats stuck under it, it still shook under the slightest weight! Next up was the menus, this is a reputable hotel in Armagh so being handed a single laminated shabby piece of paper is just not good enough! The selection was very poor and not what you would get in a typical busy hotel (trust me, i eat out enough). Worst of all was the service. During our visit, we made 3 drinks orders...all of which had to be requested at least twice before they arrived. The problem was not with the table staff, it was the bar staff. The bar was not busy at all, number of staff probably outweighed customers, but a football match was showing on the big screens...this seemed to be the only thing the bar staff had interest in. I counted 4 bar staff at one point standing with arms crossed behind the counter, scratching chins and glued to the footbal. It wasnt even an ulster team playing. All the while, we were sitting waiting on our drinks (the order had been placed). I ordered a pint of Heverlee and it was only on complaining to my wife that no one had went near the Heverlee bar tap in over 10 minutes (barmen too busy watching the football) that our waitress, on overhearing me, acted on it. I spent 10 years of my life working in the bar industry so have an idea of what the basic expectation for bar staff is. Sadly it is not met in this place whatsoever. Food was just ok, I had Caesar Salad. Dressing was very salty and the side order of chips I ordered (at extra cost) wouldn't do much for you if hungry. My final gripe about this place is the crap crap crap selection of beers on draught. Obviously the hotel have an exclusive deal done with a supplier but Tennents, Becks Vier and Heverlee just dont cut it as a quality selection of beer. the sooner the hotel in the old jail opens the better because this place needs a run for its money!

once again we have booked into the Armagh City Hotel to find that if anything it is better than ever. Everything from the rooms to the staff to the food is perfect. The rooms are clean, comfortable and spacious. The staff are so nice, courteous and friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them. The food is excelant, tasty, well cooked, and well served. I would recommend this hotel to every one wanting a pleasant comfortable clean hotel to stay in, with the best of people taking care of you. Sleep quality is great also, beds very comfortable/

We have stayed at City Hotel for several years and it is always a pleasure. The location and parking can't be beat. Great food, friendly people and convenient to family and travel. They went out of their way to arrange a delicious large family dinner party on our last trip (with little notice). Everything was perfect. It is a popular place for locals to meet and we enjoy meeting other travelers. We are splitting this year's trip between City Hotel and a cottage because of grandchildren travelling with us.
"A not so nice meal"
06/07/14 Marilyn R Armagh, United Kingdom
My husband and I called in for an evening meal. It was a Saturday at 6.30pm and we eventually found a table for two nicely tucked away in a corner. The bar area was very busy and there were lots of young children running around and being a nuisance. I normally enjoy watching children having fun but this was ridiculous. Our food arrived fairly quickly but sadly it didn't taste very good. I had chicken and I had my doubts as to what kind of coating it was cooked in, a white slime! There was a salad "garnish" of sorts which tasted of nothing, it was just a finely chopped mess. Hubbie's steak was ok, nothing special as we're the side orders. We didn't bother to have a sweet or coffee afterwards, we just had had enough. All in all not a nice experience :-(
"Prefect pit stop"

I pass through Armagh once a fortnight and as the hotel is on one of the main routes through Armagh I find it a very handy place to stop. There is lots of parking with a spacious and bright reception. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the hotel seems to be always busy. There is an area at the front of the hotel where you can sit and have a snack, coffee, scones etc. Plus at lunch and in the evening the restaurant is open and a varied menu is on offer. The prices seem reasonable for the food and service that is provided. The hotel not only offers food, rooms but events which range from music, vehicles or seasonal. I have attended an antique road show which had stalls of antique ornaments jewellery etc on sale. The hotel is very large with conference rooms available for various events plus weddings. There is a fitness gym on the premises.

Just back from a short stay at the Armagh City Hotel. Receptionist was very friendly and helpful and really appreciated the upgrade to a suite. Lovely surprise. Sean who showed us to the room was lovely too. Breakfast was good as well but just a pity it was buffet style! A cooked breakfast served to you is much better! Bed was so comfortable.
"Fantastic Wedding Venue"
06/01/14 PeterRichardsonR Armagh, United Kingdom
Recently attended a wedding at this hotel in May. Great atmosphere in the main foyer area when we first arrived to the hotel and this wasnt even from the party of guest from the wedding. We were pointed in the right direction to the wedding by a cheery receptionist. The reception area where we had tea/coffee and shortbread (although most opted for a cold pint from the bar) was nicely dectorated with candles and the red carpet awaiting the Bride & Groom. We then entered the main room for our meal which was top notch from soup right through to dessert. Such a great night was had by all attending and staff were so friendly, the place had a really feel good factor about it. Cant wait until my next stop at Armagh Hotel.
"NOT THE BEST"
05/29/14 smoothoperator54 glengormley
Stayed here for one night only. Had the carvery at lunch time which was very nice and then had an evening meal which was ok. Staff were not very busy but it was difficult to get their attention to order drinks. Rooms were average and spotless. Breakfast was a disaster. A good variety but the cooked breakfast brought to us was disgusting. My husband ordered his eggs scrambled, which had a blue tinge to them and he said they tasted awful. I ordered soft poached that came hard and cold. Hash browns were cold and the bread was dried up. I dread to think what tourist who stay there think. Considering we paid £85 for one night b/b I don't think we got good value. Learn by my mistake and never stay there again
"poor on all fronts"
05/29/14 KeenCookie Armagh, United Kingdom
unfortunately there is very little to praise this hotel for. Management is non existent, staff training is clearly abysmal and the whole feel about the place is 2 star at best. The sad thing is that the owners and managers are completely unaware that they have serious problems throughout the hotel,i.e service, food quality, decor etc etc. Ordering a drink at the bar is an experience in itself, lots of staff doing nothing, cant see the need to serve people quickly and quite often 4 staff could be huddled around the till, sorting out 1 problem while customers are queuing for a drink. Then order a bar snack. some days it could be described as just about acceptable and the next day go in and order the same thing and it will be inedible, over cooked, greasy and accompanied by a salad garnish that looks like it has been on several other plates before yours. T he waiting staff look totally disinterested in what they are doing and at times you would think they had eaten their dinner off the front of their uniforms, dirty and untidy at best. The floor and tables round the bar area where people eat are not kept clean enough with old food lying on the carpets and the staff behind the carvery dont inspire confidence in their cleanliness or hygiene. For whatever reason the beer on tap generally tastes different than the same beer on tap in any other establishment, neither myself or anyone i know will order draught beer in the hotel, bottles only!!!! The foyer looks like and has the feel of an airport departure lounge exacerbated by the cheap and nasty new settees that have been recently installed, has no-one in the hotel got any taste in decor? All in all its very easy to criticise Armagh City Hotel and if there was anything positive to say about it i would but its very difficult to find anything. The staff lack motivation and the managers lack vision and understanding and until they get a new crack manager in the place , well then i'm afraid it will still remain Armagh's 'Fawlty Towers'. Its 1 of the few hotels that i have ever been to that the reception staff sit behind the reception desk instead of standing and greeting their customers professionally and with a smile but i suppose i shouldnt be surprised at that. Sorry Armagh City Hotel but you fall way short of expectations on all fronts and you should take this sort of criticism on the chin and accept it and ultimately try to do something about it.
We stayed overnight at this hotel on a Saturday evening. Our rooms were not made available to us until 4.30pm although the advertised time for booking in was 3:00pm.The reason given by the receptionist was that `the hotel had been full the day before and housekeeping had`nt caught up. The staff throughout the hotel were pleasant but obviously under duress due to the high volume of traffic. Our room was clean and comfortable with a well appointed bathroom on suite. The evening meal was standard hotel fare, huge helpings served by once again pleasant staff. The breakfast is a buffet with a good variety of food to choose from. This is a hotel ideal for a stopover or when attending a conference. .
