"Friendly place and great breakfast"
This old Victorian house is beautifully restored and situated in the center of historic Vicksburg. The history of the house and the town is part of the atmosphere that makes this a most interesting stay. The proprietors are friendly and attentive. The breakfast is wonderful and there is a nice restaurant within easy walking distance for having dinner. […] The old neighborhood where this B&B is located is a bit mixed as in any old Southern town which still survives despite having seen 'better' days. We enjoyed the 'social hour' which provides for a welcome unwinding after a long drive. We wish we had more time to spend in this historic town and house but had to continue on to New Orleans. We hope to be back. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
My wife and I stayed at the Baer House Inn this weekend and absolutely loved it. Doug was very helpful and courteous and pleasant to converse with. We had an awesome time here and recommend it for anyone staying in Vicksburg.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"An historic stop in an historic town"
Lovely bed and breakfast in charming large home, the rooms are spacious and well decorated. The hosts are outstanding, helpful and excellent cooks. The Baer is centrally located, they have breakfasts and a five o'clock wine offering. If you want fresh towels daily, you need to say something (or hang up your towels to dry) as there is no room attention […] after you move in - a very minor thing in a very enjoyable stay. This location is infinitely preferable to the casino hotels in the area. Call if rooms appear filled; a space frequently opens up. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Feeling Right at Home in Vicksburg"
07/22/14 readyandpacked Austin, Texas
We discovered the Baer House on Trip Advisor and are so glad we did. This is a beautiful old home which is in the process of being lovingly restored. We were greeted by Doug who was in the middle of working on the front porch. He stopped and showed us all around his historical home. We were in the Bonnie Blue room with what had to be the most comfortable bed in the world. We both had a very sound sleep. Doug has thought of everything, including a notebook with the history of the Baer House and all sorts of info about Vicksburg. The home was spotless and the linens were perfect. Doug recommended several places for our evening meal and the one we chose couldn't have been any better. Breakfast consisted of a fresh fruit compote, some sort of fancy egg dish cooked in a ramkin, homemade biscuits and ham. All of it was absolutely delicious. I would not hesitate to recommend this to any of my friends for their next stay in Vicksburg.
"Fantastic home, centrally located"

My wife, son and I stayed at Baer House in mid July and had a wonderful stay. We were passing through on our way from Dallas to Atlanta and wanted to give our six year old a chance to explore the battlefield and give ourselves a little break on the drive. We chose Baer house because of the history - which it has in abundance, the location in town - seemed like a little better location than others we'd read about, and the overall charm of a Victorian era construction. The home is fantastic, the downstairs breakfast area, library and pool room are excellent. Doug did a fantastic job with breakfast doing a wonderful job doing his best catering to our sometimes fickle young man and serving a wonderful breakfast. The only reason we didn't mark this one excellent had to do with the staff did not make up the room and that may have been our fault. We hadn't left the door unlocked or open when we went out to explore (that's not our habit) so I don't know if his cleaning lady took that as we didn't want her coming in as we did see her cleaning the room next to ours. It was not big deal, we hadn't made a tremendous mess it just was a surprise given how well everything else was done in the house. Doug was a fantastic host, doing great work to keep a beautiful Victorian alive and as charming as ever- so don't let our one little comment keep you from booking this charming B&B. I know we would stay here again in a heartbeat!! Just ask as we should have done to see what is the practice of the cleaning lady if you expect your room/beds straightened for a multiple night stay. Oh and my wife loved the mattress, just the right firmness for her!! I've already recommended the home to my sister and her husband when the drive out our way.

Was a great stay! Nice place, fabulous food, and a gracious, intriguing host. We wanted to stay longer, but could not at the time. So I actually went back not even a month later just to see it again. I plan to recommend this place to everyone! I felt very comfortable and "at home".
"An Oasis in Vicksburg"

We certainly enjoyed our 1-night stay at Baer House. Upon an admittedly early arrival they were just finishing-up with a wedding ceremony and so things were slightly chaotic, but things soon settled down and the house returned to what must be the normal peaceful routine. The house interior is richly decorated and a pleasure on the eye, and our room beautifully decorated and appointed. Sleep quality was excellent. The breakfast is served in the main public room downstairs and was perfect in terms of quality and quantity. The property is located just a block from the Old Court House Museum, which is a very interesting visit, and of course the Vicksburg NMP is a must. The only negative I could level, and even this does not impact on a stay, is that some of the external woodwork is starting to show the age of the house. This is simply a product of the reality of the history that the house has experienced, and is more of an aesthetic consideration. We certainly felt that the property provides a good experience and offers good value. The acid test (i.e. would I return): yes, certainly.
"I love Lois"

Beautiful, historic,Victorian house. Full of charm and character. Vicksburg is worth going to just to meet Lois and to feel the true warmth of Southern hospitality, and if she asks you to do your homework, it is worthwhile doing.
"Outstanding B and B"
05/10/14 John R Reno
Called several B and B's to get a feel of Vicksburg and Lois convinced me to stay at the Baer House, which we did. Lot of history, big porches to sit on around the property, easy downhill walk to town, coming back you can work off your dinner. Lot of information available about the history of the city. Interesting history of the house which avoided being cannon-balled during the battle. The rooms are on the upper floor so there are stairs. We had a room with a bathroom, some do not. Make sure to pick one you like since the rooms without bathrooms are much larger, so it depends on what you are comfortable with. Great coffee in the morning and very elaborate breakfasts. We stayed for two nights and had two delicious breakfasts. They are fancy, so if you really just want bacon and eggs, ask Lois to make what you want. We liked the surprise of what was coming out of the kitchen. There is a great restaurant a block or so away, ask them about it. We ate every meal there and were not disappointed. Tremendous blues at night, went there on the recommendation of Doug the owner. Doug is a world class athlete, so if you are into biking, call him ahead since he has bike tours, but you better be in shape. Vicksburg itself was very interesting, we spent one entire day, all day, just touring the battlefield. We did not spend any time downtown due to a street fair or at the casinos, the casinos seemed popular to others. Room, while small, had an in-suite bathroom with a nice tub. Bed was a queen and comfortable. Nice desk for the computer and night was very quiet. Parking is adjacent to the house and behind a gate. The gate is not locked but always closed. We liked the fact that we did not have to park on the street. Highly recommend Baer House Inn to anybody coming to Vicksburg. We would definitely stay again.
We spent the nite here and had a wonderful stay. Our room was clean and very comfortable. Our nite's sleep was one of the best we've had during our 2-week trip. Lois made us feel right at home, giving us a delightful tour of the Baer, as well as, great recommendations for dinner and sights to see. Her breakfast was delicious and kept us satisfied all day! We would recommend this to anyone!

Doug Cousineau is the best, the ultimate bed and breakfast host: kind, knowledgeable, helpful, thoughtful, generous. Because I had trouble climbing stairs, he gave me a first floor room. His knowledge of Mississippi history, restaurants, attractions and customs really helps the traveler decide where to go, what to do.
"Perfection in hospitality"

I've travelled to Vicksburg on business four times and stayed at Baer House twice. The elegance of the house is matched only by the generous spirit of the host. Doug Cousineau went out of his way to make an early breakfast. He offered great tour guide suggestions, and even provided a bicycle for touring the military park. This is a terrific place, and as good a B&B value as I've ever come across.
"Two Great Nights in Vicksburg"
12/06/13 COChief Denver, CO
My wife and I recently stayed a couple of nights in Vicksburg in the middle of a several day tour of the Natchez Trace running from Jackson to Natchez. The Inn was definitely one of the best B & B's we've stayed in on any of our US travels. The Bonnie Blue room was quite spacious and afforded access to a semi-private balcony for sittin' and sippin'. Appointments were appropriate for a first class Inn and were consistent with the time period represented. The hosts were quite knowledgeable in area history and very willing to share that knowledge. And best of all, the bed was wonderfully comfortable!
