"An historic stop in an historic town"
Lovely bed and breakfast in charming large home, the rooms are spacious and well decorated. The hosts are outstanding, helpful and excellent cooks. The Baer is centrally located, they have breakfasts and a five o'clock wine offering. If you want fresh towels daily, you need to say something (or hang up your towels to dry) as there is no room attention […] after you move in - a very minor thing in a very enjoyable stay. This location is infinitely preferable to the casino hotels in the area. Call if rooms appear filled; a space frequently opens up. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Really enjoyed our Stay"
Convenient to downtown and very friendly proprietors. Breakfast was very good. Enjoyed snacks and happy hour. We had a two year old and they were great with him. This is the second B&B we have stayed at in Vicksburg and we highly recommend the Baer House Inn. The transom does let in a fair bit of hall light.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"We Enjoyed Baer House Inn So Much, We Could Baerly Leave"

What a delightful stay we had at Baer House Inn!! We treated our parents to a long weekend in Vicksburg as their Christmas present. Thus, we wanted a special place to spend some time with them. Knowing that we arrived several hours earlier than our 4 pm check-in, we wanted only to leave one of our cars at the inn so we could begin sight-seeing in one vehicle. Doug was home and was all too happy to accommodate our request. After seeing some of the sights of Vicksburg, we found our way back to Baer House to check in. Check in was quick and we were shown to our rooms - Bonnie Blue and Scarlet Suites. At the evening social hour, we met the other guests, enjoyed some refreshments, and were entertained by Doug's commentary about the Baer House history - along with some history of Vicksburg and the War Between the States. Our rooms were roomy and quite comfortable. The beds provided several nights of peaceful sleep. Hot water in the shower was quick and lasted throughout our showers. (And the inn was full for two of our nights). The breakfasts were delicious and well-portioned. I enjoyed having fresh fruit each morning! As for the extras: Doug's parents were visiting, so we were able to meet them. They were delightful and entertaining. I was sick one evening and into the next day. Doug was so kind to offer and prepare oatmeal & a tray of breads for me. It was so quiet during the day, I was able to sleep and recuperate. Baer House is in a great location. Though our parents are not as ambulatory as they once were, we could have walked most any place had we wanted to. Truly, we would have stayed longer at Baer House if our calendars had allowed. We will certainly recommend Baer House Inn to our family and friends & we will stay there again if the opportunity to visit Vicksburg arises.

We stayed in the Bonnie Blue room. It was very comfortable and quiet. Breakfast was a fruit parfait, shiird, and homemade sweet bread. Hosts were very friendly and we felt very much at home. Internet is fast and free. Room rates are very reasonable. And yes it is haunted, I'll just leave it at that.

We love staying here! Lucky to get the Pineapple room, bath across hall for our own use made room reasonable. California price would be double ! Doug the owner's mom Lois took care of us. She showed us every room available, and graciously gave us a thorough historical tour, which is a tour non-guests pay for. The breakfast was lovely, taking our diabetes into account, and wine hour was also nice. And Lois had great suggestions for food, entertainment and sightseeing. Neighborhood? Safe to have sheriffs across the street is how I look at it!

We stayed at the Baer House for 2 nights for our Anniversary. We loved the location. The only time we drove our car was to the Military Park- everything was walking distance! We also stayed during the annual River Fest, so there was a lot going on. We at first booked through a Bed and Breakfast website, but saved OVER HALF by booking directly through Doug at the Baer House. It was our first Bed and Breakfast, so we weren't sure what to expect, but we ended up loving it. The owners were friendly, but not overbearing! We knew we could ask them anything, but they gave us our space! We didn't feel the need to make small talk every time we saw them, which made it more relaxing. The breakfast is SO GOOD. It was different both mornings and very filling! We stayed in Scarlett which has it's own bathroom. There is also a balcony on the top floor, so you can sit out there if you want. The bed was HUGE, and we slept better than we have in a long time. We def. enjoyed our visit!
"Intriguing and quaint"
We stayed there 2 nights, as part of a bike tour. This is a small, owner-operated home, with lots of interesting history. The owners welcomed us when we arrived, and gave us some of the history of the house, but the best stories are from Doug, who has basically restored or renovated the entire home. He also knows a lot about the area, and is enthusiastic about living in Vicksburg. He has great suggestions on how to best tour and enjoy what the area has to offer. And for outside enthusiasts, ask him about those opportunities!

We spent two enjoyable nights at the Baer House in October 2012. Doug was not much in evidence, and we mostly related to his mother, visiting from Oregon to help, along with her husband. Our room, Scarlett, was comfortable and well appointed. Breakfast and the social hour snacks were good and we enjoyed talking to our fellow guests. The interesting Court House Museum was just along the road, and the historic city centre was within walking distance. The main attraction of Vicksburg is the National Military Park, and we appreciated the loan of the CD to guide us around it. We were surprised that the town centre was so run down, and if visiting again would probably stay near the park in one of the motels near the interstate and the park entrance. Nevertheless, Baer House is an interesting Victorian Building and we had a pleasant stay
"A little quirky, comfortable, lovely!"

Doug wasn't there when we arrived but he left us a note with instructions of how to get to room. Fabulous "Scarlet" room on 2nd floor. Most comfortable bed EVER!!! The young lady who was there working on computer turned out to be Doug's wife?? So checking in was a little strange. However, once in we loved it! Breakfast was good, fruit and yogurt parfait followed by an egg souffle. Doug offered to bring more ham, biscuits, and cook more eggs if anyone wanted anything else (other guests had teen boys!!). Get him to tell you the story of the house... Interesting! And he has lived all over the world. He has a loaner copy of the military park cd that we found very helpful.
"A Misrepresented Bed N Breakfast"

We did not even stay once we arrived. The area was of concern and the the house itself worn down. Doug could not have been kinder on the phone when we made reservations...but was nowhere to be found when we arrived. We left with a phone message advising him of our dismay.
"Wonderful Stay In Historic Southern City"
My wife and I stayed here after a week in New Orleans. It was perfect planning. The pace of life in this southern town and the easy going nature of the Doug, the Inn Keeper, made it a nice adjustment from the more franic (and fun!) pace of The Big Easy. The home is beautiful, well preserved and has much charm. The optional 5:00 Hospitality wine & light hors d'oeuvres was a nice touch we have not seen at other B&Bs and we enjoyed the chat and learned much history of the town, house and suggestions for what to do and where to eat. I specially enjoyed my early morning coffee on the 2nd floor veranda (or gallery as they say in New Orleans). It was tranquil and the screened in porch was beautiful. As to the town, the Inn Keeper loaned us a guided tape of the National Battlefield that he keeps for guests. The battlefield is an amazing place and the exhibit on the USS Cario is a special treat. Don't miss the Court House Muesum. It was amazing to see so many artifacts up close. We spent two night at the Baer Inn. It was a special time in a beautiful home in an interesting town. We have fond memories of our time there.
