"Great hotel for a great price"
The location is right next to the gaslamp area and within walking distance to the convention center. The room was small but comfortable and nice.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Small room but amenities were there. Convenient to gaslampGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Thanks to all the wonderful staff, especially Charlie and Joseph for helping me navigate San Diego! Your professionalize and care took the worry out of travelling!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great service, great location"
Staff was very welcoming and accomodating. Close to train station and Horton Plaza. Rooms were very small, but we'll appointed and fine for quick business travel. Would definitely stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
NICE CLEAN PLACE GREAT LOCATION VERY EXPENSIVE TO HAVE A CAR $34 BUCK PER-DAYGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice restored hotel in convenient location"
Our group of five was in San Diego for a conference. Because of a previous positive experience at the Sofia, we booked it again. The hotel is well maintained and the rooms are clean and comfortable. Like many boutique hotels, the guest rooms are on the small side but adequate room for two people. If you prefer a large, expansive guest room you should […] consider another hotel. The location on Broadway is within convenient walking distance to the Santa Fe Depot, Little Italy, Horton Plaza, and the Gaslamp Quarter. The overnight parking charges at the hotel are absurd, but no different than what other SD hotels charge. If we didn't have to haul displays and other materials to the conference, I would have preferred to take the train. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"More than a 4 less than 5"
Great hotel and staff. Will recommend this place to anyone except for those with children and who travel heavy. Their standard rooms are a bit small but packed with amenities. Upgrade to the suite is nominal increase in charges. Worry free stay with complimentary everything including bikes, gym, bottled water, and Wi-Fi. Comfortable beds, good showers, […] but could use better separation from commode. Nice restaurant downstairs. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
It was truly lovely. It is one of the most comfortable and well-appointed hotels in which I have stayed in the past 10 years. After leaving, I traveled immediately to Washington, DC, where I stayed at a Hilton. The Hilton was totally boring and generic by comparison with the Sofia Hotel, despite the fact that the Hilton was twice the cost.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Best birthday in years"
I enjoyed my stay. They weren't willing to change to a 2 bed room. Bed was super comfy. Free water nice! The plant by sink was very dusty and dirty. Decor great. Checkout desk guy was super friendly. Love the on site restaurantGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The room was small and the window overlooked a brick wall and it was a little depressing. But the room was nicely decorated and comfortable.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Euro-style elegance at a bargain price!"
The Sofia is a beautifully appointed, well-kept property in the heart of downtown San Diego. Steps away from Horton Plaza, the Gaslamp district, theatre district, and a 10 minute walk from the convention center, this hotel is ideally situated for any trip to this fine, clean city. The rooms are tastefully decorated in a very modern but restful style. […] All the rooms run to smallish in size, but have all the amenities: mini-fridge, microwave, coffee maker, large flat-screen TV, lovely feather-beds & duvets. The staff is marvelously friendly and helpful. The in-house restaurant (Currant) is exceptional! You must give the Sofia a try the next time you visit SD. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Everything was great. We were just disappointed that they charged more for parking then the other hotels downtown. $37! That's way too much for one night. I would not return because of this.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Cute historic botique hotel"
This hotel is located in walking distance to many wonderful downtown area attractions. We actually never used our car. If we come down again next time we may use the Metrolink train,as that train depot is a few short blocks down the street, and would have saved on the $34 a day parking fee. When we checked in they upgraded us to suite for our 3rd wedding […] anniversary, which was awesome. Our room was very space with a living room and 2 tv's. They provide complimentary water bottles in the room too. We saw the other rooms as we walked buy during maid service, and yes they were smallish, but they were all nicely furnished. Remember this is an old historic hotel. They just didn't create big hotel rooms back in the day. The restaurant below is great, and offered a good breakfast, as well as wonderful cocktails and appetizers. My one complaint is on the second day we were out of our room by 9 am, and we're out until 4 pm and no one had cleaned the room. One of the house keepers was cleaning the room across the hall from us, when we got back, and when we asked if she was going to clean our room next she said "she doesn't do that side of the hall." Ok?? But there was no other house keeper in sight...it was strange. At any rate we went in and decided to not linger in the lobby for the Phantom maid to show up, and took a nap. The hotel did arrange for house keeping to come in and clean while we were at dinner, so the room was cleaned. Just wish it was done earlier while we were out originally. All in all we would come and stay again, they staff were nice, and the rooms were comfortable. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Expensive hotel with motel level service"
The room was like a pigeon hole. Hardly any place to move around. The view from room was terrible. Towels were dirty. Sheets had stains.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Nice property, lovely staff, reasonable price, good location. Non-Functioning air conditioning. It would run for a little bit, then I would wake up covered in sweat. The staff claimed the A/C was working as well as it ever works, probably true. On the last night I found that if I every hour or so, and opened and closed the room door, the A/C would turn […] on for a bit. Interrupted, but better sleep than the other nights where I finally would pass out for fatigue around 5am.. My suggestion is stay here in the winter, November through April. Other months, go somewhere else. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"It was alright"
The hotel was ok. The room was small. I think the parking would have been complimentary. $34.00 a day was a bit much.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I stayed by myself in a full or double room. It was comfortable for me, but would have been way too tight with 2 people. Clearly, a designer was at work, making the most of a small space. Really enjoyed it. Great location- I walked down to the harbor and lots of restaurants within easy walk. There are a few homeless people around, and I ended up taking […] one to dinner. We had a fascinating conversation. They didn't hassle me, they were very kind. Would love to go back. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Loved the hotel, Valet staff and location! For some reason it was extremely hot in all areas of the hotel, we asked about the ac and someone came up to our room but it was still very hot throughout the hotel the entire weekend.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice Hotel Downtown"
Room is small, but that is something to be expected downtown. Walking distance to everything situated in the downtown/gaslamp/seaport area. Take use of the amenities they have (bike, water in room, guided tour, yoga), because you are paying for it upon leaving (resort fee).Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Wonderful. Staff most professional. Excellent location. Room #300 I will always ask for when ever in San Diego.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Terrific little hotel in great location"
This is a really lovely small hotel, right in the middle of the action. I walked to meetings at the Hyatt and Convention Center, to the Gaslamp District, and to the waterfront and USS Midway. It's also very near courthouses and downtown offices. The room was small but incredibly comfortable and upscale. The bed was very comfortable, and felt luxurious. "Love the Sofia Hotel"
I found the Sofia Hotel online. The reviews were good so I decided to try it out. I fell in love with the hotel from the moment I parked my car at the Valet Parking. The attendant was attentive and timely. The Gentleman at the front desk was friendly and informative. The lobby is swanky and sexy. My room was clean and comfortable. I can't wait to go […] back and I am telling everyone that I know is visiting San Diego to stay at the Sofia Hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Gem in GasLamp"
Beautiful hotel, walking distance to shopping, food and fun! Beautiful hotel, love the history of it and everyone was so nice. Just one tip: if you valet; text them for your car pick up, because calling the front desk doesn't always do the job.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Loved it. Very centralGenuine Hotels.com guest review
My stay was fine with the exception of my first night. Upon arrival to my room, the air conditioning did not work and my room was 85 degrees. I had to call maintenance three times to repair it. After the third time, they were moving me into another room when a guest arrived and said it was his room. I returned to my original room. Shortly thereafter, […] I was moved to another room and given a discount on my stay. I would most likely stay there again. My only discomfort was that the rooms are really small. The location is great, with the exception that it is across the street from the courthouse and jail. That tends to attract people I prefer not to be around. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We came to San Diego to see a Chargers game, stayed at the Sophia and we're very pleased. The rooms are small as with most downtown hotel rooms. But well-maintained and up-to-date.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Need towel racks. Bath towels instead of beach towels.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Nice Hotel very quaint and staff was very nice. But you need to put on your Web site that you have to use Valet parking and that it's an additional $34.00 a day. Thankfully you can go in and out as many times in a day as you want at no additional fee.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Nice hotel in the center of town"
The hotel itself was very nice. Room was nice and quiet. It was difficult trying to park when we got there but thats expected in a busy city. My only complaint was we were forced to Valet park and use an attendant each time we wanted access to our vehicle, There were a few times we waited a few minutes for them to show up. Other than that great location […] and a nice Hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Would stay there again!"
Had a wonderful stay! Close to everything. People were very helpful that worked there.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel room is clean but it is so, so small. We felt claustrophobic in there. Even the elevator is small. Another thing you should know is this hotel has no onsite parking so you have the option of using valet parking or park at the public parking right next to hotel. The hotel was clean though and it is located in downtown. The price was good. We […] would not stay there again though. Just need a bigger room. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great boutique hotel!"
The rooms are cozy and nicely decorated. The location is perfect, walking distance to the Gaslamp District and the train station.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Nice old hotel in a modern city"
If you want character and elegance hten this is the spot for you. Nice olde hotel in a modern city. Rooms are small but nicely updated. Room 730's air conditioning doesn't work and we were moved to 608 which was a corner room with more space.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Several suggestions for the "handicapped room" I stayed in. The use of black for furniture and closets etc. is useful to conceal wear and tear and perhaps a fashion statement, but very hard on aging eyes which have lost acuity. I suspect most of your Handicapped guests are seniors. In addition, are you aware that in order to turn off the bedside light, […] one has to get out of bed to reach it? If there was another means to reach it I could not fine it. As a whole my stay was very pleasant and would recommend the hotel to others. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Overall the hotel was great. The staff were very friendly. Even before we got there, my wife called a couple times with some questions and they were very polite and helpful. They were even able to check us in early by a couple hours. The valet staff were very courtious and quick with the vehicle retrieval. Your valet cost is part of your stay there […] and comes out automatically from the security deposit, so I recommend using it. There's a nice bar/restaurant in the hotel that has good food and drinks. The rooms are small but that is what we wanted and it was explained that way on the website. The only bad thing about it was the mattress was not the most comfortable. Not a major issue though. Wouldn't recommend for families but for couples it's perfect. The location is excellent for things to do in the city at anytime of the day or night. Shopping, art galleries, cafe's and restaurants are all nearby. At night many of the restaurant's turn into night clubs which was different. Gaslamp quarter is only a few blocks away(5-10 min walk). Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Staff friendly - resolved problem quickly"
I have stayed here before and thought it was just ok, but this time I really enjoyed my stay. I had booked my room for the incorrect number of nights, but the front desk staff quickly resolved my problem, even though it was my error. I really appreciated them going above and beyond. Great location. Rooms are smaller than I would like but it served the purpose for our stay. Everything was very clean and well kept. I love that they had yoga in the morning and bikes that you can take out for 3 hours.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"I'll keep looking"
Advertised price not accurate. Room was very narrow, reminded me of hotels in Tokyo. Liked the lights in hallway with historic photos. Great/friendly staff, nice lobby bar. Location is near Horton Plaza/gas lamp but walking distance to Midway aircraft carrier, waterway. I'll try to find a hotel of better value.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Very chic, neat hotel right near the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter. Best Croque Madame in the cafe downstairs! Plus, you can order food downstairs and take it to the room. We got a carafe of mimosas and just took it right upstairs. All of the food there was great. Room was comfy. Would stay again!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
