Mandela Rhodes Place Hotel and Spa - Cape Town

We recently made a trip to Cape Town, South Africa, and found that the Mandela Rhodes Place Hotel and Spa was the perfect place for us to stay. The staff were uniformly outstanding in their service attitudes, promptness, and helpfulness with all the activities that we pursued. I would highly recommend the Mandela Rhodes to any visitor to Cape Town.

I stayed in Mandela Rhodes for 5 days with three friends this past January. I cannot rave enough about the location of this hotel (central to EVERYTHING), as well as the staff. Great Hotel and great location. Proximity to most important places/restaurants/ stop for the hop on hop off bus/ Waterfront. A little note: the bellhop called for us an unlicensed expensive/small rutty looking taxi. We ended up taking the hotel authorised taxi just outside at the front of the hotel.

Hotel was conveniently located in the center of the city with a City Tour Bus Stop across the street. The staff was extremely helpful in booking dinners, reservations and taxis if needed; and the apartment-style rooms are very convenient if you are on an extended stay as my wife and I were since we were able to do laundry in our room.

This is a great hotel in a great location. It is very easy to get to all the sites in Cape Town from this hotel, most of them by walking. The staff is great and the hotel is quite nice and comfortable. We had a 2 bedroom, 2 bath suite for the 2 of us on the 7th floor. The […] only negatives are that the atrium in the center of the hotel is somewhat open to the elements, so if there was a big storm it could be wet getting to the room. And in our case, there was some sort of a fan running in the bathroom constantly that could not be turned off. I talked to Maintenance 4 or 5 times during our stay and they could not figure out how to turn off the fan. I am a light sleeper and as a result, I did not sleep much during our 5 nights there which was after an 34 hour trip to get there. I don't know if this is an issue in other rooms. This hotel stay started out on a bad note. We had booked a 2 bedroom superior room but when we got there at midnight, the only thing available to us was a one bedroom apartment. The reception closed at 11 pm, leaving only a security guard to man the front desk and we had to wait till the morning to get the room situation rectified. Staying at the Mandela Rhodes gave us a perfect home base for exploring Cape Town. We had a 2 bedroom, 2 bath suite with a full (and well equipped) kitchen, living room with 2 large, comfortable sofas, dining area, and a washer and dryer. They even arranged a complimentary room for us to freshen up before our 11pm flight home (check out time that day was 11am). We had a two-bedroom, two-bath apartment with a complete functioning kitchen (not that we cooked). My bedroom had a view of Table Mountain. Very well located, this prison-like building aging hotel is noisy and echoed. Aircon exhaust from the next building hurled 24/7. The smoke emitted by charcoal oven of the Italian restaurant at the ground floor of the hotel flew right in our room. Maid rang the bell at 7 Sunday morning !!!!!

We arrived at the Mandela Rhodes in Cape Town after flying 20 hours from the US, so obviously we were tired and wanted to check in as quickly as possible. When we made the reservation on Expedia, we requested early check-in, and were able to do so after waiting about 10-15 minutes for them to make sure the room was ready. The slight wait was not an […] issue, as the front desk locked up our bags and gave us vouchers for two free coffees at the cafe. The hotel service was excellent--very friendly and accommodating--and the room was very nice. We actually got more room than expected--with two bedrooms, two full baths, a full kitchen, and living room--for a very reasonable rate (although we were there in winter aka the offseason). In addition, we felt very safe during the entirety of our stay, as hotel staff are stationed all over the lobby and they make sure that anybody that accesses the elevators is a hotel guest with a key card. Overall a great stay and a very good location if you want to be in the City Centre near the city gardens, restaurants, bars, and shopping. Highly recommended from a very picky traveler! Read more

Situated on the LongStreet, Mandela Rhodes is perfect for a vacation or business trip. Big and comfortable rooms, excellent room service and very helpful staff make the stay enjoyable. But the clerks on the reception desk have no knowledge about the time it will take to go to various places within the city. The apt was beautiful and across the street from provincial legislature and 30 yards to a hop on hop off tourbus stop and common gardens. Close to several museums and Long street which is cool. Didn't bother with their business center, as are abundant internet cafe operations on Long Street--the Cheapest is in basement level of crafts store a block from hotel only 5 Rand per hour(like 80cents US).
