I like that I know the level of quality I'm getting with Marriott. Very good quality at a good price. Those that wouldn't find Marriott superb, probably shouldn't be booking Marriott should they? The staff were particularly friendly. Dining area was particularly attractive to me. Two peeves with Corporate Marriott. 1- We also stayed at Regents Park […] Marriott in London. Lovely, but nowhere near Regents Park. This is akin to the practice of calling the Raynham MA Marriott a "Boston" hotel. So when booking, really look at the map to see if it is where you think it is. 2- In the Regents Park Marriott no one asked us if we wanted to be billed in UK pounds or US dollars. The bill under the door was in pounds. A copy of the bill was mailed to us at home. Stapled to it was a register tape stating: 1- we had agreed to dollars, we had not, 2- they charged a currency conversion fee of 3% before they put it on our Marriott-Chase Visa card. Imagine if I had put it on my Fidelity Visa where they only charge a 1% exchange fee! To me 3% vs 1% is 200% too much. This will cause me to reevaluate my entire relationship with Marriott. Hotel and room looked worn and tired. Bathroom and amenaties were nothing special. The only thing about it that was classic Marriott was the comfortable bed. should hotels.com should have noted at time of reservation that room had no exterior window. The one and only window faced hotel interior and was a mere one floor above the restaurant.

The facilities are nice and we got a good promotional rate, but rates for room service, in-room phone calls, internet and so forth are prohibitive (they charged me a small fortune for a five-minute LOCAL phone call). In the health club, the jacuzzi did not have functional jets. Food was overpriced as well, with mediocre service, and breakfast is through-the-roof […] expensive. Location is awkward for seeing major Portsmouth sites. Nice rooms with good quality bedding; okay as a coaching stop if you can get a promo rate, but if you use any extras, be prepared to pay through the nose. We loved this hotel and cannot fault the high standards there. I would highly recommend it! The location would best suit travel by car as it is slightly away from the main city, but is overcompensated for by everything else. Superb!

I'm usually a fan of Marriott Hotels, but this one was decidedly disappointing. The decor in the room was pretty vile - dated and cheap looking. Hotel excellent. However, staff were reluctant to serve at the bar. They avoided eye contact in case they needed to serve a drink, and to order a meal was an ordeal. It took more than an hour to order and eventually receive an evening meal.

I only stayed just for one night and overall it was alright. However, for the amount of money charged for the room, I was not very happy because 1) No free wifi - had to pay £15 per 24 hours 2) No free parking - had to pay £3 for a day. 3) Staffs at the reception could be a bit more cheerful. Spent there only one night. Quite liked the hotel (friendly, clean, comfortable). The only two things I didn't like was (1) that the sound insulation of the rooms could be better (traffic noise etc.); but that's a generic complaint in every single hotel I've been it seems. (2) Basic things like Wifi costs extra, and isn't cheap at £15 per day.

The room was really good, but nothing much in the hotel, the pool was too small, the sauna and stream bath were good, they don't have any halal menu. The breakfast menu is exactly the same thing every single day, which was not at all impressive. Not much to do in terms of extra activities at the hotel.

The staff were exceptionally helpful. The room was bright, clean and cheery, the beds were lovely and comfortable and the food was tasty. The children loved the pool) which we had virtually to ourselves both morning and evening (at least 2 ‘life guards’ were there all the time.) This is an excellent base location to go to the ship and marine museums; […] or to hop onto the hovercraft for a visit to the Isle of White. They had both a Wedding and a large dinner party that evening so we could not make an 18.30 dinner reservation. We asked for a few pieces of fruit to be sent to the room and we were surprised by a lovely fruit platter which tied us all over to 19.15 dinner. Then during dinner they brought the children’s main courses out a few minutes ahead of ours which was very thoughtful and much appreciated. Read more

The hotel was easy to find and located perfectly for our trip to Portsmouth, Southsea Common (a small drive away). The room consisted of two king sized beds and over looked the indoor pool & bar area. We heard no sound from either during the evening/night (we stayed at the weekend and there were two weddings/receptions also taking place). The cleanliness and hygine were good, room was big enough and beds were very comfortable, breakfast was great. However, it is a small property: The restaurant is small and there was a wait at breakfast lounge of about 10-15 minutes every morning. It was two days before we noticed a card on a top shelf which gave information about the room bar which had the prices and a note at the bottom to alert you to the fact that should an item be removed the sensor would record this and you would be charged. By that time we had looked at just about every item and moved it without opening or removing it […] from the fridge. Staff were very good when we complained that this information should be more easily seen before your curiosity cost you a fortune. They removed the items from our bill thank goodness. Booked three rooms for our family before & after a short trip to France (Portsmouth to Caen). First class large rooms, and only problem was of a lot of noise from wedding parties directly below one of the rooms. Unfortunately this was where there was a young family with small children who were kept awake for several hours as it overlooked the dining […] room/bar etc as an intenal room. Car park fee at £3 per car per night was a little greedy perhaps as many hotels in this type of location out of town are free. Long wait for breakfast - about 30 minutes.
