The location is ok. Our room is clean and comfortable. It is slightly smaller than those of other 4-star hotels we stayed during our trip. The staff is friendly and courteous. But they denied my room change request. Yes, it costs extra 100 euros for a room with a view. But it's off-peak season, there are plenty of empty rooms. Great location...very close to the center of the old town and also right on the water. The only problem with this hotel is the age of the mattresses....I would guess they are about 30 years old....you can really feel the springs... EVerything else is terrific..!

Four star hotel that did not live up to expectations. Location is excellent with most rooms having partial water views and excellent size. Beds were too firm and uncomfortable and the king bed is made up of two double beds pushed together. The space between the two mattresses could be felt. They tried to push their own restaurant first as well as an overpriced tour to Capri. In order to access the beach, you have to take an elevator three stories down and one of the hotel personel tried to charge us 3 euros per person for an "all day" pass when in essence we come to find that it is included as part of your stay. The only charge is to use the chair and umbrella service at the beach. The location and views are the saving grace to this hotel as well as the space if you are traveling with children. Our experience at the Continental was fantastic. We had been upgraded to a junior suite at no charge. the suite was wonderful! It was HUGE by Italian standards. It had a big double bed with a couch, coffee table, a coat closet and a walk-in-closet. yes, I said a walk-in-closet. Just when we didn't think it could get much better than this, the bellman […] raised the "hurricane shade" and we saw the view. Vesuvius towering over the Naples Bay straight in front of us. The balcony was huge in it's own right. It was a wrap-around with two lounge chairs in two different areas and an outdoor dining table for four with 270 degree view. Room service. l. There are dividers between the balconies for privacy at that level. A great benefit is the hotel elevator to the beach below. It's a $3 a day charge, and better than walking the block to pay to use the public elevator or the steep walk to Marina Piccola. The tunnel has an electronic gate and is very safe. The hotel is convenient and easily with walking distance of all the major attractions of Sorrento including the train station. One note that if you want a full view of the bay, then you need to be on the next to top floor (4th?) otherwise you have a view of the back of the hotel between the Continental and the cliff with a sliver of bay to the right.. At the moment of booking on Hotels.com, the room for 3 people i rented was advertised as the one with Seaview and balcony. I booked it, never looked into the receipt, which turned out to be just a room for 3, no sea view, tiny as a closet, dark, 3rd bed being almost broken, complete shocker. There was a balcony, looking into the roof of another building […] that you would not want to go to. After unsuccessfully trying to reach hotels.com on roaming phone (people that picked up the phone after listening our explanations transferred us to another company in London (financial firm?), so after 15 mins of trying we gave up on hotels.com), paid extra to the Hotel and were transferred to a nice size room on a 3rd floor with Balcony and Sea view (what i think was originally advertised on hotels.com). That room was comfortable enough for 3 people, with big bathroom, magnificent view of the bay. Hotel has lift going down to the beach (have to pay for everything but very good), pool is large, clean and excellent, town center very close, very convenient, breakfast decent. My advise - get the room with sea view and you will be a happy camper, but always look at confirmation from hotels.com. Read more

Everything was WONDERFUL about this hotel with the exception that the beds were not particularly comfortable. The location was great - you do have a partially obscured view by the one hotel that is between this hotel and the sea ... but it isn't a problem. I would definitely go back to this hotel again.

My family and I stayed at the Continental for 3 nights at the beginning of April 2013. The hotel has a great location with sea views and is close to shopping and restaurants in a quieter part of Sorrento. The pool is HUGE, though too cold for swimming while we were there. While we were there I injured myself coming down Mt. Vesuvius. The hotel arranged […] for an English-speaking doctor to come to our room and treat my injury. They also allowed us to stay well past checkout time at no cost while we waited for the doctor. They then had a taxi waiting to quickly take us to the pharmacy and then to the Sorrento train station so we didn't miss our connection in Naples. We could not find fault with anything. The staff were extremely helpful and pleasant. The hotel is in a beautiful location, quiet but within minutes walk to all the local shops, restaurants and bars. We were sorry to leave and will definitely go back.

Great value 4* hotel in lovely part of Sorrento with wonderful helpful staff and service, perfect location, wonderful sea views and a lovely pool area. Easy walking to shopping and restaurant area close by but very peaceful niche almost on sea front. Easy walk to bus and train station and there is a lift down to a beach area. The beautiful hotel foyer […] in cool marble is very inviting and the rooms are airy, clean and well finished. Breakfasts were good too as well as happy hour drinks! We chose the hotel because it had a gym which 3 out of 4 of our party were keen to use each morning, the only problem was there was no air conditioning in there unlike all other areas of the hotel which were very pleasant. It could do with a fan or air conditioning as it was extremely hot and maintenance is required on some of the fitness equipment. This hotel is almost on the cliff edge and many though not all windows look across the Gulf of Naples to Vesuvius. Even if you don't have a sea view, the location is ideal for strolling around the quaint old town, or to the next fishing village of Marine Grande, or to the station for both trains and buses. We were offered a sea view and enjoyed the […] bright morning sun (early April) on our balcony, which also looked onto palm trees. The staff were generous in their welcome and helpful in ensuring we found our way to ferries to Capri and Ischia, buses for the Amalfi Coast, and trains to Pompei. They would also have booked tours for us had we wished them to. For the first few nights our bed was turned down and a little chocolate left for us, along with a note of the next day's weather forecast. Our room was spacious, airy and immaculate with delicate marquetry (a local craft for which Sorrento is famous)on the wooden furnishings. Breakfast buffets included hot scrambled egg, fresh fruit, breads, pastries, cheese and cold meat, and preserves and the waiters were friendly and welcoming. The only problem we encountered was a strong smell from time to time, which seemed to come from the plumbing. We would love to return to this hotel. Read more
