"Great small hotel"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 2, 2012
Great small hotel, well...let me take that back: the room is actually a small one room apartment, so is quite big, compared to a regular hotel room. The area is perfect with great restaurants and places to go at a walking distance, very safe too. I wanted a happening place with city noise, it was perfect for me, but if you need a silent place that does not wake the kids up at night don’t go there (I mean the neighborhood or Mexico city for that matters, not the hotel)

"amazing architecture; right on the Zocalo."Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 1, 2012
This century-plus aged hotel is stunningly beautiful inside. Look in even if you don't stay here. My suite was large and well appointed, but the AC didn't really cool the room and the bed was very squeaky. In short, it looked great but functioned a little less well. That said, I will stay here again on my next trip.

People attitude, hotel condition and cleanliness of the room were the worst, they made me paid again with my credit card becouse they did not want to llok up for my reservation. they gave me a very bad room, the smell was very bad.
"Good hotel except for street noise late at night."
Good service, hot showers, inclusive breakfast, comfy bed. Room was a bit small and there was some kind of street party going on until 5 am.

"rooms small but staff and location great"
This hotel is ageing and really is not 3* - it is expensive for what you get - but of course you are paying forthe location. The rooms are small and very noisy - the wndows in our 5th floor room did not fit the frame and, although it was on the back of the hotel, the noise all night was still significant - a abar, trucks, traffic, street noise - so […] that I had to use ear-plugs every night. I was disappointed at first and intended to move - but in the end I stayed and did not have too bad an experience. Apart from that and the overall old and worn look of the hotel, the staff tried hard and were great. The breakfast was quite good... Read more
"Convenient"
My wife stayed there. She was pleased with the service and location and with the friendliness of the Staff. Next time we will definitely stay here again.
"Good location on Reforma, but close to the Centro"
Hotel Fontana Reforma is a decent place at a good "crossroads" location - Reforma near Hidalgo. Prices are fair. Hot showers are great, the breakfast is generous. Wifi was slow and the rooftop jacuzzi was broken. Still, I'd stay here again.
"Excellent Location and Affordable Price"
The Hotel has an excellent spot for tourists visiting Mexico City, the crossroads between the Sightseeing and Business section of it's Capital City. I recommend the Hotel, Food is Great !!!

"The Fontan Hotel of reforma"
I came to Mex city for a bussiness visit, it wsa great location, the price was good and included Breakfast Buffet, the beds were not the greatest but ok. Kind of firm/hard. Cleaningness was good. Walking distance to many local attractions.
"Great Location, Good Deal"
This hotel is great for the traveler that is looking for a convenient location in Mexico City for a good price! The rooms were basic and the Bell staff was fantastic. I arrived several hours before the check-in time and they were helpful in keeping luggage in a locked/secured location as well as giving me directions on where to get a bite to eat while […] I waited. Though the receptionist did not smile, she knew what she was doing. She was flexible and gave me a room five hours before check-in time. Again...great location and good for the price! Read more
"Very good choice"
The Fontan is excellent value for money, We have stayed there on four separate occasions over three years and have never been disappointed. The hotel is quite large and caters to a lot of travel groups. It is therefore a no frills sort of property. Improvements are continually being made (i.e. new elevators and a rooftop solarium since our last stay). Rooms […] are pleasantly decorated (as shown in the photos) and comfortable. Try to get a room on the south side of the hotel, especially in winter as there is no heat in the rooms which can get quite cool during the night. Also the south side of the hotel is much quieter as its north side overlooks the noisy Paseo de la Reforma. With many of the room rates, a quite good breakfast is included. Take advantage of it. The hotel conveniently located at the Hildago metro station and it is therefore possible to travel to and from the airport very easily. You can walk to anywhere in the Centro Historico without resorting to transport. There are also a large number of theatres and museums in the immediate area. Read more
the hotel was overall pleasant. the location is very central, you can walk to alot of places and also close to the metro. the staff was very nice and helpful. the lobby, restaurant, decor, hallways, etc was all fine. the room was a good size, clean, but a little shabby (not terribly bad though) but very comfortable. there is no heat so in the winter […] you need an extra blanket...the room did get cold. the hotel is on the reforma so it can be noisy when there is traffic (bring ear plus just in case you are a light sleeper) or maybe you can get a room at the back....but the view was wonderful overlooking the reforma. we asked for a quiet room, but we got what we got!! we chose breakfast included for the extra $ just for convenience. i'm sure you can eat for less elsewhere. but it was worth it to us for the convenience. there was an abundance of food, a huge buffet with a large selection, and it was pretty good. sometimes they did run out of things and were not always very fast to replenish....but on the day that they ran out of eggs, we asked the maitre d about it and he came out with eggs prepared just for us within a few minutes. the water pressure in the shower was non-existent. that was the worst problem overall. but i would stay there again as the price was excellent. hotels.cpm rates this as a 2 star, but the hotel shows a 4 star rating on the building. i guess mexican standards are lower that u.s. standards?? "Great visit to Mexico City"
This was our 2nd time at La Fontan and it was even better than the first, and that's to say that our 1st stay was a good one too. Our room was as expected. It's a very economical hotel that's located in the heart of downtown, close to a lot of sightseeing that helped us budget even better since we didn't spend much on transportation. Instead, we were […] able to walk to a lot of places, shopping, restaurants. When we ventured further, say the Basilica at La Villa or Coyoacan, we used the Metro, that's located just around the corner of the hotel and dropped us off a few blocks from where we wanted to go and quicker than if we had rented a car or taken a taxi. The staff was courteous and helpful, and they are the same since our previous visit a year and a half ago, which is great for consistency. The concierge was knowledgeable and pointed us in the right direction on a couple of occasions. Rooms were clean, had bottled drinking water, shower had cold and hot water without problems. Water pressure a bit low, but that happens. Definitely a better experience than I've had at the majority of US hotels on all counts. If you want to maximize your budget and be close to Mexico City's main sightseeing, then I recommend this hotel. Read more
"Hotel Fontan, very nice"
I liked this hotel. I've stayed in a lot worse places for more money. We got a 50% off deal on hotels.com, so i was extremely satisfied with the hotel for the price we paid. It was clean, people were friendly, and the location is great, just steps away from the Hidalgo metro stop. The only problem was the room got really cold at night, but the hotel […] gave us a portable heater to use, so we were toasty the second night. Read more
"Amazing for the $Money$"
I was skeptical to book this hotel because of the reviews. Lighten up people!!! This was the best hotel stay. Positives 1. cheap well priced 2. courteous and friendly 3. customer service willing to explain details 4. tours available on site 5. delicious breakfast/lunch/dinner bar 6. clean rooms/ lobby 7. free wireless internet (ask for code at check-in) 8. […] iron/dryer/clean towels daily 9. free in room bottled water (as much as you liked) 10. safe location next to the parks, Zocala, tourist attractions, movies, weekend carnivals, vendors, Subway next door, also a bus station located next door where you can go to the any location in Mexico, like Puerto Valarta etc... Negatives 1. The rooms are cold. It being Mexico makes sense, just be prepared to call more blankets in. It was ok when we came in from being out all day, at night it was cold. 2. There was no water in the middle of the night one time, which was quickly fixed the next morning because of construction. 3. It is noisy facing the street- ask for a room not on the reforma side. I am from New York and so used to it...but those weaker at heart...prepare or bring ear plugs. Overall I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a well located hotel in the heart of downtown. This hotel made my trip great! I felt safe and was very happy. Book it! Read more
"Hotel Fontan"
This hotel is in the perfect location in DF for visiting the sites in the central and 1 block from the metro. The rooms are simple. They have breakfast but no lunch or dinner. Don't expect a 5-star hotel but it is very good if you are just exploring the city.
"Hotel Fontan - Close to Metro Hidalgo"
This hotel was very convinient and is located one block from the metro Hidalgo and the Alalmeda Central. It is not a 4 star hotel but it is cozzy and with easy access to transportation. The only negative is to choose a room away from the street as traffic will wake you up at 5:00AM.
"hotel Fontan"
The hotel is good if you have concern about budget. Everything is good except internet. Most time, there is no internet in room. I have to go to Lobby for internet. However, the internet in the lobby is not stable either. So if you are not a fan of internet, the hotel is good for you. The Room is ok. Our room actually has rain leakage into the room […] through the window but it didn't affect us much. The location is great. Very convenient. But there are not many restaraunts near the hotel. You have limited choices. The noise was really bad. We have to use ear plug to fall in sleep. But the entire Mexico city is noisy. So it is ok with us. Read more
"Next to Metro"
I recommend this hotel because it is located right next to the Hidalgo Metro stop. Otherwise the hotel is not in a convenient location and not in the best shape. Book it if you can get a cheap rate.
"Would recommend for the price"
Great location next to Alameda Park. The staff at the front desk and the restaraunt was not completely friendly during the day. They were okay but the night crew was great. The maids are very happy to help. Beds are typical hard rock flintstone beds. Air conditioner is not very good. Restaraunt was good.
"Great hotel with reservations"
This hotel is wonderful for the price and top quality. The only reservations are that the wireless internet is slow and unreliable and the front desk staff is not really very helpful (they did not tell us our lost baggage had arrived, nor did they tell us someone called and left a important message) you are better off talking to the bell man if you […] can. "Good hotel with a very good location."
I was pleasantly pleased with this hotel. The only problem was that a king size bed would have made all the difference. Mexico city can be a little chilly given its altitude and a the inclusion of a small room heater would have is benifits. I certainly would have used it. An
"Outstanding Hotel!!!"
The hotel was excellent. When we first booked it, I was a little apprehensive because I read some not so good reviews. However, I was impressed with the service,it was incredible, everyone was extremely pleasant, beyond corteous! The room was very clean, we had access to internet. The bed was comfortable, service again was amazing, anything we needed […] they were there to help and were genuinly caring about our comfort in the hotel. Its location is very convenient...theres a bus stop right in front of the hotel and the entrance to the subway. You can also grab a taxi right there. We Highly recommend this hotel to everyone. We hope to return to Mexico and will be staying at this hotel again. Mexico City was amazing! Read more
"Excellent Hotel"
The price , the location , the clean of the room was excellent . In this hotel , you have quickly access to the main Av. Reforma , you have a close Sub-way station to go anywhere . I recommend this hotel , if you want to spend only the nights , the safety it's ok. The people in the hotel are very courtesy .
"Great Bargain"
After reading some of the negative reviews of this hotel, I was a little apprehensive about what to expect. My fears were allayed when I saw the room, the hotel lobby and other hotel amenities. The room was immaculately clean, well maintained, and the staff was courteous and very helpful. If traffic noise bothers you, bring ear plugs. This hotel is […] in a very convenient location, and it is a fabulous bargain for what you get. The breakfast buffet in the attractive restaurant was quite delicious. Read more
"Clean and great room for the money"
I needed a hotel for the night in Mexico City, after an all night flight. I was very pleased with the cleanliness of the hotel. Also, the location was very close to the Metro, and I was able to walk to the downtown area and the market. There was a little bit of construction going on during the day. All in all, I would definitely recommend this hotel […] for some place inexpensive, well-located, and clean. Read more

""Great room for the money""
I ORIGINALLY BOOK HOTEL FOR TWO DAYS, BECAUSE THE PRICE WAS TOO LOW AND I WAS NOT SURE OF THE PLACE, BUT WHEN I GOT THERE AND STAY FOR THOSE TWO DAYS I DECIDED TO BOOK IT FOR FIVE MORE DAYS, BUT I HAD TO BOOK IT THROUGH HOTELS.COM IN ORDER TO GET ALOT BETTER RATE THAN THE ONE POSTED IN THE HOTEL. MORE THAN 50% OFF. ALSO EVERYTHING WAS WITHIN WALKING […] DISTANCE. "GREAT VALUE" WILL BOOK IT AGAIN. Read more
"Best place in downtown Mexico City"
I loved the hotel failities. I'm glad it was under mainteniance, 'cause it means they care about clients. Reforma is a wonderful 'paseo', but some surrounding streets were a bit dark to my taste. Museums, parks, and sites all at walking distance, breakfast was geat and limitless, which is quite important, he he...
VERY NICE HOTEL MY ROOM WITHOUT VIEW METRO NEXT TO THE HOTEL CLEAN BUT WITHOUT MINI BAR IN THE ROOMS
"Hotel Fontan....good value, but noisy"
My wife and I enjoyed a couple of weeks traveling in Mexico and Guatemala with Mexico City as our hub. On our way home we wanted to try a different part of town before flying out. In this case, we wanted Centro Historico...but at a reasonable price. We found this hotel after struggling to find a room in town (probably due to the 3 day weekend starting […] the day after our arrival, FEBRERO 24). We were happy to find a big room in a hotel frequented more by business travelers and Mexican tourists as this helps us practice our Espanol. The hotel is a little aged in terms of decor but the staff was friendly and helpful. There is a good looking restaurant in the lobby which provides a free breakfast, we couldn't take advantage of this since we were leaving at 5am. The room was large and spacious with TV and safe. The beds were firm. The view of the city was great! But, there was one big problem; Paseo de la Reforma was just below our room and the traffic is endless and loud. The windows on our 3rd floor room were so thin that it seemed as if there was no window at all. The noise was considerable and I slept very little. I can report to you that traffic on Reforma on a Thursday night will only slow at about 3am the next morning! I would still recommend the hotel because of the room quality, for the price and the friendly staff, but I would suggest requesting a room on a higher floor and perhaps away from Reforma. Read more
"good place to stay"
I've stayed at Fontan several times now. at first I thought it was just okay but after staying in other hotels around the city, and some more expensive, I now think it's a good deal and better room than most 3 star hotels. the buffet breakfast is really good. I like Ave. Paseo de la Reforma. the Metro stop is right there. Sunday is a fun day since they […] close some of the Paseo Reforma for bike riders, joggers, rollerbladers, etc. if you want a deal but be comfortable with great internet in the room, cable not wifi, then this is it. "Hotel Fontan, Mexico City"
Overall very good. Good location and surroundings. Decoration a bit outdated. Low marks for noise - anything can be heard from street and from other rooms.
"you get what you pay for"
initially they placed us in a noisy and cold room, but moved us to a better room after request. The internet didn`t work at all. Breakfast fits the price. The hotel is located just by the metro. The hotel and the rooms are very clean.
"Noisy and no internet - barulhento e sem internet"
The streets were very noisy and there was no internet as promised. We got very frustrated. Though for the price, breakfast, cleanness and overall service were good.
"Hotel Fontán Mexico City - in the middle"
Excellent location in MEX.. only 30min away from airport by taxi.. 5min walk from Palacio de Bellas Artes.. renovation is going on and sheets and towels are new..
"Location good."
Situated at a central location, near to Metro & station. so can go around in all directions.hotel staff is very good and co-operative. restaurant service was also good. little noisy during night, any one going please take rooms on the top floors, as mine was 1 st and back side, it was too noisy, due to some music bar at the back side of road. so some […] time was really disturbing and was not able to sleep. "Helpful for coeliacs"
The hotel was within 20 minutes walking distance to the square which was very convenient. Breakfast was included for us which was variety of food especially for me being a coeliac although I mainly stuck to eggs and fruit. Hotel itself could do with a refurb but for the price you paid. It was more than adequate. Staff were very helpful
