Wonderful B & B. Rooms are spacious, welcoming and very comfortable. The Inn is located in a great location just across the highway from downtown Providence and Brown University. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The breakfast and other amenities a very nice touch. Will definitely stay there again if in the area.

We enjoyed our stay courtesy of the manager's attentiveness. The location was fine for our college tour purposes. A basement room was not, however, what we would have expected and a cramped and unheated bathroom took away from the otherwise lovely property.

Parking is limited to about 5 cars. There is additional parking down the street about a half block away, but you would not know about it until you were already in the B&B and asked about it. Also stairs were narrow and it was difficult to climb to 3rd floor.

This B&B was excellent. It was very clean and comfortable. It had a tasteful colonial decor. The bedding was fresh and clean. The breakfast in the morning was excellent. We had French toast stuffed with cranberries and almonds, made to order and complimentary. I honestly would stay here over a hotel any day. Can't wait to go back.

I have never stayed in a B&B, and my boyfriend and I were a little wary. But due to our last minute decision to go away for a night, this was the only affordable option available--and it ended up being perfect! The staff was very friendly, the inn was clean and cozy, and it was just a quick walk away from downtown. They leave out complimentary cookies, […] coffee,and water, which truly gives the place a nice welcoming touch. My only complaint is that the place was warm--too warm. We turned our heat entirely off in our room, went out for a few hours, and when we came back it was still over 72 degrees in the room. We tried calling the "front desk" a few times and no one answered, so we had to sleep with both windows open (in January!) or else it would have been a sauna. It was also lovely to wake up the smell of coffee and breakfast cooking, although we didn't take advantage of the free meal--they were serving strawberry crepes, and my boyfriend and I are more eggs and bacon people in the morning :) Overall, we would definitely come back! Had a wonderful time at the Christopher Dodge House. Great being right in downtown with beautiful view of the Capitol from our window (though a little noisy being close to the highway). In general we enjoyed our stay. However, it was hard to sleep because it was a windy night and the windows kept banging loudly and the gas fireplace (the room's heat source) made the room dry and hot. Also, even when the temperature was lowered and the fire did not appear to be on, the blower was and was loud. I came in late and left in the morning, but my impression is that you get much more than what you'd pay for in a hotei. It's a delightful place. Hard wood floors and the scented hand soap in the bathroom and personally crafted European styled breakfast did it for me. Going back when the need arises again

Loved the location and the value compared to hotels in the same vicinity; loved how easy it was to get to. Spotless bathroom. Room was heated by a gas fireplace which was cozy or romantic depending on your point of view. There was muted highway noise - couldn't see the highway from our room - which I thought would be a problem but because it was constant […] and consistent, it soon became nothing more than white noise. There was a small refrigerator in the room which made odd noises at odd times, but the inn itself was very quiet. Our room was close to the common and breakfast rooms so we expected noise in the hallway but there was none. My husband prefers B and Bs. I tend not to because owners are often overly friendly or at the other extreme, seem to simply tolerate sharing their space with travelers. One of the things I loved about the Christopher Dodge House was that the owners were nowhere in sight. Instead, the Inn was being run by a friendly and capable staff. Our 2nd night, however, we returned from dinner and went to the common room. There was a couple in the room and when we entered, the man greeted us by asking if he could help us. It felt as though we had no right to be there. I backed out but my husband stayed behind to apologize for our intrusion. I could be totally wrong but I assume that the couple were the Inn's owners - I can't conceive of a guest behaving like that. I would happily stay again but only if i knew the owners would not be on site. Read more

Very attractive place, beautifully maintained. Service and staff could not have been better. We were visiting Brown, for which it is not within walking distance, but we knew that. Call at least 30 minutes ahead for a taxi. I had two gripes: the wi-fi didn't work, and the mattress was worn out -- like sleeping in a hammock.

I don't usually think of B&Bs for my business travel. Providence was very busy with a convention, so this was among the few with rooms to book. Good luck for me! The large room with high ceilings and lots of old-fashioned windows was very pleasant. The live-in caretaker/chef was very friendly. The public sitting room and dining room were nice and well-equipped. […] Parking was tight but okay. They suggested nearby Julian's restaurant which was great, with amazing food and beer. Breakfast at the House was fine, though it didn't have quite the homey atmosphere I've had at other B&Bs. My impression is that the owners are not the staff. This is a bed and breakfast in a beautiful historic building that could be so much more with the interior keeping up with the architecture but the rooms lack the charm I expected. It was clean and comfortable except that during our stay, it was quite humid and warm and the remote for the air conditioner didn't work, there were no instructions with it […] and the office closed at 9 so there was no one around. There was a ceiling fan that pulled up ( winter ) instead of blowing down and because the ceilings were very high there was no way to change it. The house is located right next to interstate 95. It was very very noisy even with the windows closed let alone open. Our first breakfast had me a little concerned. We were served very watery scrambled eggs ( could these be powdered???,surely not) but the rest of the breakfasts made up for that one and were quite delicious. Because there were only two guests on our departing day, the coffee urn was nowhere to be found and if we wanted coffee, a Guerin coffee pot was provided. The help yourself juice pitchers were gone as well. Juice had to be brought on request. Left a not very nice nice departing feeling. Parking is very very limited. and we had to park our rental a block away in an overflow lot....the neighborhood was such that we were very uncomfortable doing this. Read more

The feeling of staying in a cozy, feeling of home environment gives a more relaxing atmosphere especially with the home cooked food during breakfast which is delicious. The lounge and the kitchen is available anytime if you feel like making coffee or tea and other snacks.... very convenient.... the access of a wi-fi and internet is a plus!

At some point, this must have been an elegant home. I saw pictures that showed that it fell into disrepair but now is just gorgeous. We peeked into the more expensive rooms and they were lovely.
