I loved the breakfast coffee, and we loved the staff here, they were all pretty nice, and helpful. We loved the breakfast-outdoor dining, next to the pool which overlooks Lake Como, which is super charming. Our "superior" double room was 2 floors, though with wrinkley, 80s-ish bedcovering and tablecloths. Our view of the lake was good, though the 2nd […] floor where the bed was, was dark and without a lake view. We later found the skylight which at least let in plenty of light. I would stay here again, in Menaggio. We went for a few hours to Bellagio, and that town is cuter, with more and seemingly nicer shops and restaurants than Menaggio, but this town is quite charming nonetheless, and I think the view is nicer than the view from Bellagio. I'll put it this way, from Menaggio, you see the beauty and charm of Lake Como, from Bellagio you see the hills of Lake Como and a remarkable view of the Alps. Read more

Air conditioning was inadequate to deal with the heat by staff's own admission, otherwise everything was superb. Rooms, grounds, restaurant, all excellent. The included breakfast was wonderful in quality and abundance. Pool and chaise are was outstanding. Value for price was exceptional.

Hotel Grand Menaggio is a nice place to stay. Great location and easy to get to the center of Menaggio town, a 3 minute walk at most. The clientele are a bit older, as in averaging 70+ with a few families and youngish folks. The pool is great but they play the chaise lounge game where people get up a crack of dawn to reserve a one. Which in my opinion […] is ridiculous and offending. Obviously, not enough space or chaise lounges for everyone pits guest against each other with no hotel 'interference' or work around. A noisy nightclub next door wants you to keep your windows closed when the air is great there, although for me it was not a big deal. The ferry, literally next door, starts making it's noise at 09:00 or so, so unless you like to sleep late, you'll be fine. The staff are actually quite friendly and helpful once you get past the glazed vibe. Although they offer no help unless asked a direct question. So, there you have my snapshot review & opinion. Will I go back? Probably not as there are some other great towns that aren't so touristy, but as beautiful or accessible. Also, the sun sets in Menaggio 2 hours before the other side of the lake...which for morning people is good, but not for night people. Read more

First the hotel is next to a prime ferry location including car transport for anywhere on Lake Como. The ride to Como was about 30 minutes but the scenery is fabulous. When you walk in, wow!!! The backdrop of the pool, lake and mountains. Very relaxing hotel. Great to walk around in surrounding town as well as catching a boat to tour the lake. Could not have picked a better place.

We enjoyed our stay at the Grand Hotel Menaggio. Its location right near the ferry dock made travel to other Lake Como towns easy. The hotel had old world amenities combined with very recently updated decor. Make sure to book a room with a lake view or you will be facing a busy street.

Perfect location when visiting Lake Como. Half way up lake, near to Bellagio and good ferry access next to hotel. Walk into pretty Menaggio only 5mins. Hotel gardens v pretty and right on the lake shore.

My wife and I booked this hotel for 3 nightts mid august 2012 expecting excellent comfort. This hotel is proud to exhibit its certificate of excellence awarded in 2012 by tripadvisor , I wonder on which basis tripadvisor is distributing such a certificate without assessing properly all aspects of services in the hotels....1. we had booked a superior […] room for our steay. On arrival, theonly available superior room was in the loft on 2 levels with stairs between the 2 levels very inconvenient for senior clients who can't manage stairs easily.Even a one star hotel can offer a better room, so we insisted on having a standard room instead and after discussions the receptionnist gave us the standard room, with a very tiny bathroom, for the first night.For the second night we have been moved to a superior room where the king bed we had asked for was 2 twin beds joined together, very low quality matresses, the curtains were of very low quality too, very thin nearly transparent ,with no blackout effect.The airconditionning system was totally inefficient with outside temperature of 35 C.The safe in the room was broken , but nobody came to repair it...The buffet breakfast was the same everyday like a continental breakfast in addition to poor quality omelette and bacon..The pool is too small for the number of guests in the hotel so every morning before 7AM the guests reserve the chairs around the pool for the day..The management can correct all these deficiencies . Overall stay was good. Personnel very friendly and helpful. THe hotel is in good condition, but it is an old style hotel ( a bit out fashionned in comparison with standards). Iwould nevertheless recommand as it adds some style to your gateaway.

Enjoyed our stay but rather disappointed with the catering outside the main meal times. It wasn't possible to have a light lunch eg.salad etc without having the set lunch. Bar offered little choice in snacks. Reception staff not very friendly /helpful unlike other members of staff who were very pleasant.

This hotel has a bus stop (C10) directly outside, great for transport to and from Como plus along the lake. Very helpful staff, most notable in the restaurant. Views stunning, got upgraded to a superior room top floor with balcony a view of the lake. Great walking tracks in the area.

Lovely hotel in a great location with spectacular views. The restaurant is well worth a visit for an evening meal. The only thing we felt that lets the hotel down was the breakfast - there was no variation day on day. The ferry is close by and you can hear the announcements but it's not too disturbing.

The Grand Hotel Menaggio is quite charming and very well situated for the town of Menagio and the ferry dock to see Lake Como. The staff were very kind. Overall, we found the hotel very old fashioned and far more suitable for the hordes of elderly package holiday guests who were staying there. Food was average but cocktails were nice and strong.

It's also next door to the boat service which takes you across the lakes to the other little villages scattered around the water. The bathroom in our hotel had a leaking shower and was without a screen and curtain which meant that everytime you washed the whole bathroom would become flooded. Service is mixed with some of the staff proving to be warm, welcoming and helpful while others came across as aloof and unwilling to help. We visited in May, out of season, and the hotel was pretty much dominated by British travellers. This hotel has a great deal of old fashioned charm. Although the rooms were clean and freshly decorated, they do have a slightly dowdy feel. It is not a trendy place. The views from the pool and lounge are fabulous and the gardens with the wisteria and blossom just wonderful. It is also in a great position to get ferries to other lovely villages in the area. My other one fault in the hotel which marred our visit slightly was the rather poor breakfast. The coffee was instant and always just too cold. This was our first trip to the Italian Lakes so had no experience of regional hotel standards or position. I can only say that we had a great time, the hotel is in a great position, close to the Ferries which is important - the ferry announcements (I'd say once an hour at most) didn't bother us one bit. On arrival after a 5 hour transfer from Malpensa airport Milan the check in was fine, room very nice, had paid for a lakeside view & that was worth paying for. Day 2....Thought we would have a restful day around the pool! no sun umbrella's! there were trees but we were not allowed to put sun loungers on the grass & as it was 35deg shade was needed. […] No waiter service around poo.Every morning the pool man would put towels on 4 sun loungers for guests that were staying in what i think to be private hotel residence! of course this was in the shade & only 2 persons ever used this area! We ate once in the a la carte dining area, food was very poor. After our one experience of eating in the hotel we decided to eat out. We found the The Hotel Corona service was excellent as was presentation of the food it was of a very high standard & could not fault it. The Grand Hotal Menaggio could learn alot from them. Overall comfort of hotel good, staff we found unhelpful & not at all friendly. In fact quite rude at times. We would not return to this hotel for that reason.
