"decent, convineint and spacious"
Rooms are very large with a sleeper sofa and kitchenette. There's a huge pool and hot tub and a restaurant/bar onsite. It's right on the beach front, too. The only downside is the quality construction of the building. Some of the rooms could stand to benefit from some additional maintenance. "Nicest resort on the island hands down."
This resort is the nicest resort on the island the only fault in our recent stay was they refused to heat the heated pool and it being early fall the pool was much to cold to swim in.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great place to vacay!!!"
My experience here at Peninsula Island Resort & Spa was a pretty mixed one, but overall turned out great!! Upon arriving, I really enjoyed that it straight off the causeway, which means great access on and off the island! The service wasn't too hot, though, took about 15 to 20 minutes to get checked in, rooms got mixed, and we wound up finding a random […] family trying to enter our room after there was a little fiasco going on at the front desk. Thankfully, the problem was solved lickety-split! The exterior looks nice, but some trims of the building and surrounding area are rusted from the salty sea air, but that didn't affect the wonderful elements the room itself had to offer. We slept in the presidential suite, (well, most of the 3 bedroom units here are considered "presidential"), and were definitely greeted with the full kitchen and washer/dryer combo!! The beds were super comfy, at least to my liking, and the imported furniture gave the place a really awesome flair!!! Overall, I loved the place even though we had to work out a few kinks the first night!! Hope other travelers in the area will enjoy this place too! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

I made this reservation a little while back, it's a little hard to figure out how to get to but we were very surprised when we walked into our room. I really had a hard time believing that I made this awesome of an reservation. Ok, it may have been off season, but OMG! the room had 3bedrooms all with bathrooms, decorated so cool, full kitchen, up to […] date, a wrap around balcony over looking the gulf and a very awesome pool area. "Peninsula Island Resort and Spa"
The Peninsula Reort and Spa is not a four star resort. There was rust all around the bathtub and the front door, coffee stains on the stove, torn (white), window shades that had been taped with bright blue tape and the worst of all was the smell of the unit....it smelled so strongly of mildew that we couldn't sleep and it gave me a headache. I informed […] the woman at the front desk of this problem and she apologized and said that I could have a discount on my next visit......what next visit????...I won't be returning to "The Peninsula Resort and Spa". The beach area and the pool area were both very nice but it is hard to believe that the building was built in 2006. It seems much older. The resort does not have front door access. It was a long walk from the parking lot to the front desk with all of our luggage. The Peninsula Resort and Spa was the only four star hotel that my husband and I stayed at on a seven day getaway...the others were only three star hotels....and the three star hotels were superior. "Pennisula Island Resort & Spa"
This is not even close to a 4 star hotel. First of all, it doesn't even have a real lobby or amenities! There was no concierge or staff to really facilitate sight seeing or excursions. All of the room doors opened directly to the outside. It seems this is really a time-share or condo which rents space when it is available. The room was a nice size and […] clean, but there wasn't a lock on the sliding door to the balcony! We told them about it when we checked in and they said they would fix it, but they never came! We were continuouly asking for more towels and wash cloths. The restaurant service was extremely slow and the kitchen was not fully stocked. They didn't have orange juice for breakfast and only had one cook working! Breakfast took more than an hour to get to the table. The location was nice on the beach. The views were great. The pool area was nice. They had a swim up bar that apparently hasn't been functioning for months.... We were there on labor Day weekend which should have been the end of "high season" for them. We certainly expected more from the rating and the COST (even at the discount from hotels.com)! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Horrible customer service"
We had the worst customer service at this hotel. We had purchased their "nicest" room, and got the worst service. The cleaning crew did not come every day until after 9 pm, even thought we had been asking for them since 9 am. Also, they never had towels available for us- come on, we're at the beach! "Don't waste your money nor time"

Not a "resort" at all!!! I would actually call it a motel. You would expect better service and certain standards to be meet from somewhere to call themselves a resort. The property was filthy nothing what the website shows and the rooms were disgusting!!! Not to mention the cockroaches...the resorts excuse was that they came from the palm trees??? There were no palm trees on the property!!! I highly suggest not planning a family vacation or event around this facility...it may end up a nightmare!!! The staff was useless and not helpful, no one was even around half the time. But this proves way the property was so unkept. So bad we didn't even stay!!! Recommend the Hilton Garden Inn on South Padre!!!! Thanks Hilton for saving us!!!!
"Disappointing mini vacation"

Our family decided to book this hotel for the remarks and pictures on booking.com. It was a big mistake. Upon arriving to check in we were advised our pullout bed was a twin. When arriving to our room we noticed the bed comforter had stains, phone broken, outlet broken, missing iron board, missing cups, track for shade broken and missing chair for table. We have two daughters and we are having to share our bed with one. We have been visiting South Padre Island for years and this has been our worst. Today we decided it was ok and just wanted to enjoy the beach but when we went looking for ice and the machine was filthy and broken I decided to write the review .
"Top Notch, Incredible service and location"

The place, the location and most important the staff. Everyone was friendly and willing to help. Jose, from administration was very helpful and provided excellent customer service! Pool area is one of a kind. Treated like a king. This is the only hotel for me when in South Padre.
"Had a great time!"

I also purchased a two night stay from Travelzoo and had a great stay! It's sad to read the harsh reviews like Randy F because I totally DISAGREE. Before I even purchased this deal I did my research. I called to make my reservations and told the lady kind of jokingly to tell me about the parking situation as that seemed to be the negative that kept popping up. She said they were aware and when we arrived we could park at the front to unload our stuff then move the car to the parking lot. Upon arriving I knew exactly what to do. Yes, the front desk is a little interesting to figure out, but they have signs posted. Immediately I was greeted by Sarah who walked me through the check in process and answered my questions. We were then helped by Andy who loaded up all our stuff and took it up to our room. He also brought us back in the golf cart so don't let the parking situation deter you. We had a fourth floor room and could see the pool with a partial beach view. The pool was perfect for my six year old. I loved ordering the fresh juices while being poolside! We also had food delivered up to our room for dinner and it was good. They have a boardwalk to the beach. Friday night they had live music and some "movies" playing on the side of the building. We didn't know until we heard the music playing from our room so we had our own dance party from our balcony. It was fun and it looked like the people down by the pool were enjoying themselves! I observed each morning staff bustling below to get everything looking nice: from the pool, to the grounds, to cleaning off all the sand from the showers poolside. Our toilet was not flushing when we got there so we called the front office and two guys immediately came up to the room. I could go on, but the jest is I would come back again. Thanks to the staff for all your hard work and making our stay enjoyable!
"It is OK, I guess"

Check in is strange. No indication of where the office is. Also, the parking lot is 600 feet from the rooms. You can unload at the base of the building but it would be nice if we were Informed of that. The room was clean, and almost steril in décor, and terribly overpriced for the area and what you get. Bed was great. Overall the facility was clean and efficient although it had a bit of a Ghost town quality to it. It touts itself as a resort and it is trying to be, but remains in the wannabe arena. Maids came early one day and did not return. Food in the restaurant is marginal and the restaurant was completely empty except for the time share sales people and their customers. Beach access is good, but the showers don't work very well. Incidentally, there was a diaper (used) placed near the showers by the pool. We noticed it there on the first day. It styed exactly where it was for the next four days. The staf was cordial and relatively efficient. Lots of maintenance people running around. Again, at $100 less per night it would have been fine. We payed 250 per night and would have expected and gotten a lot more for that price at say The Isla Grande. We probably wont go back to this place.

I purchased a Travelzoo voucher for a two night weekday stay. The room was spacious and clean. No true views of the ocean, but the pool area is beautiful. Parking and check in is somewhat funcky. Parking is about a two block walk away walk. They do have golf carts that will take you to your car. Most people checking in are unaware they can drive up to hotel to check in, Customers were dragging their luggage through the field. Restaurant has a nice view of the ocean. Breakfast the next day was delicious. Fresh fruit & Eggs Benedict!
"Troy's birthday trip"

We were able to get a awesome deal thru travelzoo for the Memorial Day holiday. The hotel also helped me with surprising Troy with a balloon arrangement and thanks to Jakes florist. They also accommodated us with placing us on the 6th floor, for a wonderful beach view. We also rec'd a $50 hotel credit which we used in the onsite restaurant, and the food was very delicious. We will recommend this hotel to family and friends and we will return.
"Broken and not clean"

It is 6 am in the morning and as I went to the bathroom I saw a roach just running somewhere. The prices are unreasonable and we asked them to inform us on our arrival day when the room is ready. They never did. I wish we could leave this place sooner. G. Sh.
"Don't buy a voucher!"
05/06/14 cel421 edinburg, texas
At check in was charged triple what my room tax should have been, then spent the afternoon checking back to make sure the problem was corrected. Wouldn't doubt they do this to recoup the alleged $50 resort credit advertised with the purchase of voucher. The credit was supposed to be good for the spa or dining. Spa was never open. The restaurant mysteriously closed and would not reopen until after our check out. What a fraud. Never again. I can't imagine being duped into paying full price.
"Great Value For The Money We Paid"
04/26/14 Fifiann Dallas, Texas
We booked this hotel using a voucher and it was exceptionally good value. I would not want to pay the regular rate but If you can find a good deal then I would recommend this resort. The room was spacious and included a fully stocked kitchenette. We were on the top (6th) floor facing the pool with a partial view of the sea. I would recommend getting as high a room as possible as the lower ones will not have a view of the sea (unless they are on the front) and they are too close to the noisy pool. It's important to note that this is a timeshare resort and very family oriented. Daily room servicing was not included in our rate. That is OK for a couple of days which is how long we stayed, but not for longer. The hotel is right on the beach with easy access to it by a boardwalk. The entrance to the hotel was kind of weird though. There is no proper roadway up to the lobby. There is a parking lot just inside the front gates where the shuttle from VIA had to drop us, then you have to walk 150 yards up to the hotel. This was no problem for us with small roll on cases, and I think they do have golf carts, but that could be a bit inconvenient if you arrive with little kids and a lot of luggage! We had a lunch and a breakfast in the restaurant which were pretty well priced with friendly service. We had deep tissue massages at the spa which were good. A little pricey but not out of the ordinary for a beach resort and were worth the splurge. Overall it is a very plain resort (apart from the spa, which is serene and tastefully appointed) with no real wow factor, but it is clean and nice enough and the staff are friendly and accommodating. If you want a room with self catering options right by the beach and you can get a good price, then this place is just fine and I would go back.
