"Expectations smashed on arrival and stay"
Based on pictures, location, and description on netflix. I had certain expectations which were quickly destroyed once I arrived and stayed. This could be a much better hotel. It sure does have potential but they don't live up to the 4 star expectations.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not what I expected at all..."
you know things are a little out of sorts when you cant even find the check in desk when you arrive... the hotel is really not what I expected as depicted from the images.. its a bit run down, rusty bathtub, tired fixtures. the pics really make it look snazzy, but its actually more average than anything else... for the same price, I left the hotel […] and checked in at La Quinta. Not swanky by any means, but very clean and better location at the beach. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"decent, convineint and spacious"
Rooms are very large with a sleeper sofa and kitchenette. There's a huge pool and hot tub and a restaurant/bar onsite. It's right on the beach front, too. The only downside is the quality construction of the building. Some of the rooms could stand to benefit from some additional maintenance. "Nicest resort on the island hands down."
This resort is the nicest resort on the island the only fault in our recent stay was they refused to heat the heated pool and it being early fall the pool was much to cold to swim in.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great place to vacay!!!"
My experience here at Peninsula Island Resort & Spa was a pretty mixed one, but overall turned out great!! Upon arriving, I really enjoyed that it straight off the causeway, which means great access on and off the island! The service wasn't too hot, though, took about 15 to 20 minutes to get checked in, rooms got mixed, and we wound up finding a random […] family trying to enter our room after there was a little fiasco going on at the front desk. Thankfully, the problem was solved lickety-split! The exterior looks nice, but some trims of the building and surrounding area are rusted from the salty sea air, but that didn't affect the wonderful elements the room itself had to offer. We slept in the presidential suite, (well, most of the 3 bedroom units here are considered "presidential"), and were definitely greeted with the full kitchen and washer/dryer combo!! The beds were super comfy, at least to my liking, and the imported furniture gave the place a really awesome flair!!! Overall, I loved the place even though we had to work out a few kinks the first night!! Hope other travelers in the area will enjoy this place too! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

I made this reservation a little while back, it's a little hard to figure out how to get to but we were very surprised when we walked into our room. I really had a hard time believing that I made this awesome of an reservation. Ok, it may have been off season, but OMG! the room had 3bedrooms all with bathrooms, decorated so cool, full kitchen, up to […] date, a wrap around balcony over looking the gulf and a very awesome pool area. "Peninsula Island Resort and Spa"
The Peninsula Reort and Spa is not a four star resort. There was rust all around the bathtub and the front door, coffee stains on the stove, torn (white), window shades that had been taped with bright blue tape and the worst of all was the smell of the unit....it smelled so strongly of mildew that we couldn't sleep and it gave me a headache. I informed […] the woman at the front desk of this problem and she apologized and said that I could have a discount on my next visit......what next visit????...I won't be returning to "The Peninsula Resort and Spa". The beach area and the pool area were both very nice but it is hard to believe that the building was built in 2006. It seems much older. The resort does not have front door access. It was a long walk from the parking lot to the front desk with all of our luggage. The Peninsula Resort and Spa was the only four star hotel that my husband and I stayed at on a seven day getaway...the others were only three star hotels....and the three star hotels were superior. "Great Hotel in South Padre Island!"
I travel often for work and have stayed at countless hotels so felt compelled to write this after the Peninsula Hotel exceeded my expectations. My room was immaculate, spacious and had a great view. The service was very attentive, and the restaurant offered a varied menu of good quality food. I would highly recommend this hotel to families or couples looking for a weekend getaway!

"Less than meets the eye"

We were looking forward to this trip this summer, because we spent almost twice what we spent the year before to stay at a "resort" instead of a hotel. Unfortunately we had a very disappointing start to our stay and it lingered the entire 5 nights. Upon arrival the check-in area is a small office with a desk and a couple of chairs, it looks like the entrance to the maintenance area. There isn't a lot of space for parking near the buildings to unload. I can't imagine how chaotic it is during the busy season. The room entrances are outdoors like a motel. There are two buildings and each tower only has one elevator. If you are in a hurry or trying to check in or out while house keeping is using the elevators, plan on waiting or using the stairs as we did our entire stay. The parking lot is over 160 yards from the towers. I am not exaggerating, I shot it with a golf range finder. The room was average with many flaws, like a broken lampshade and exhaust fan in the bathroom, for what we paid per night. Here is where our problem started. We walked into our room and the thermostat read 80 degrees. We couldn't get the unit to come on so we called the front desk. They quickly sent a maintenance man up and he flipped a switch and told us 30 minutes. I asked if it was just a breaker and he nodded. Little did I know he didn't speak any English. We actually left that night to go to a golf tournament and spent the night in another city, thinking everything would be good to go when we got back. When we got back the next day our room was still 80 degrees. We again called the front desk and they sent another young man up that worked in and out of the room for about an hour. The kids were ready to go to the beach so my wife took the three of them to the pool to tide them over thinking we would be able to leave soon. One of us had to be in the room with the workers, who also didn't speak English. After an hour he leaves and tells me "un momento". I sat on the balcony watching my wife and three boys playing in the pool, which is very nice. Half an hour later I see the guy who told me un momento carrying a plate of food over to the other building. My wife walked into the office and they told her the head guy would be back shortly. Thirty minutes later I called and they told me the head maintenance man had to make an hour round trip to get a part. An hour later I see a HVAC van pull up and I am thinking finally. It took him 15 minutes to make it up to the room with the young man who told me "un momento". I started questioning him and he told me that he was an independent AC guy they just called 40 minutes ago. He charged the freon for 5 minutes and he was gone. The "resort" had basically lied to me and not once apologized or tried to compensate me for my half day spent in my hot hotel room. I was stuck there from 12:00 noon til about 4:30 in the afternoon. I canceled my appointment with the sales guy that wanted to try to sell me a time share, which I believe is one of their main goals with guests arriving. He called Thursday morning before we checked out on Friday and asked how our stay went and I explained to him that I felt like I was lied to, which was my first and only impression of their service, and would never stay here again. He then said let me call you back and "I will speak to the manager to see what he could do". He called back a couple of minutes later and said he hoped I would enjoy the rest of my stay. It was what I expected after my first encounter. We booked through Hotwire, so we were pre-paid and they weren't losing any money. We were down there about two weeks after the 4th of July. Just to add a little fuel to the fire, they charged us for two pieces of candy they claimed we ate and didn't, $3 each. I never got over the first day and will find a different place to stay next year. This is our summer destination. I feel sorry for the next guests in that room, as we were packing up that Friday morning the room started getting hot again and we didn't tell the front desk. Enter at your own risk, I guess we were just the lucky one, or unlucky one.
"A nice, clean beach close to home"
08/28/14 sanfer467 San Antonio, Texas
In my opinion south Padre Island has the nicest beaches in Texas. My wife and I booked a three-day stay at the Peninsula Island Resort&Spa with Travelocity.com which offered a very attractive package. Our suite included a main bedroom with a balcony overlooking the ocean, a very nice bathroom and another room with a sleeper sofa, a dining table, a microwave oven and a small fridge. The swimming pool is large and there is bar service available where they make a "mean" pina colada. The restaurant offers an excellent menu featuring a wide variety of seafood dishes. I particularly recommend the "ceviche" The beach is well kept and although it is not very long it lends itself to very nice walks. The only downside to our stay was that on the second day we found out that our package did not include the cleaning of our room and that if we wanted it cleaned it would cost an extra $40 a day. "Best Resort HANDS DOWN!"

This is by far the best resort I have had the pleasure of staying in. The scenic views are above any other I have seen personally and the service was BEYOND five stars. In fact, if I could put in 10 I would! I highly recommend Peninsula Island Resort & Spa the next time you are in South Padre Island. You will not regret it!
"Best Value for Beach Front"

Went to South Padre Island for vacation last month with some friends, and this was the best deal for all of us. Right on the beach, which was great! Also had a really sweet pool, so we pretty much just hung out there or the beach most of the time. Staff was friendly and rooms were really nice. Would definitely recommend if you're looking for a nice vacation at South Padre Island. Also, the best restaurant we went to at South Padre was right at the hotel! Check out the dinner, I posted a pic.

We took a trip to SPI last minute with our kids. We stayed July 14-16 and we all had a great time. The hotel had mixed reviews but it was the cheapest for our family of 5. When you first arrive the parking lot is a ways from the hotel. They have some people that drive up and down in golf carts to give you rides, which is a great idea!! You can also drive up to the hotel to unload your baggage. We were given an "Apartment" and it was beautiful!! It had a huge bed for my husband, 1 year old daughter and I. My stepson and stepdaughter slept on the pull out sofa bed in the next room. The room was so clean and nice, plus beds were very comfortable. The pool area was beautiful and it has a boardwalk to walk over to the beach. The staff was so nice and helpful. We loved our stay and had a great time! I would recommend this hotel to everybody!

Went on a vacation with a lot of friends, I stayed here at Peninsula Island and friends stayed at some other hotels nearby. Peninsula Island was cleaner, bigger, and had better service than any of the hotels my friends had chosen. 5 out of 5 would definitely stay again!
"Waste of money"
07/28/14 Love2travel998 Windsor
We stayed her for 6 days. We were scheduled to stay for 7 but couldn't take another day. The white walls were filthy. There were holes in the blankets on our beds, food stuck on utensils, and mold on chairs in kitchen area. I took pictures of all of this. The pool is nice and it is close to the beach but even that is not worth it. We got sand in our sheets and when I asked if they could be changed they said it would cost $25. The laundry room looked like it was from a slum. There was water on the floor with gross concrete. The dryer looked like it was from 1960 and there was a broom handle jammed in the door so it would work. The washer didn't work at all. It was so disgusting. We stayed in a studio because we couldn't afford the price for a presidential room ( outrageously priced) but for what we paid we deserved much better than what we got. I would not stay here and I am sorry if you ignore this review, which I did when reading negatives that others had to say, and choose to stay here. I have pictures to prove how gross it was!!!!! Stay here at your own risk but just remember, you were warned! The rooms on the website look nothing like the actual room. There wasn't even a bedspread on the bed. The bed spread was a brown, over used blanket!!!'
