"On Playa Norte"
Ixchel is located at one end of Hidalgo Street (the main promenade) and on perhaps the best stretch of Playa Norte. The staff is friendly and responsive. No complaints.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Warm, friendly hotel with everything you need."
We stayed in a two bedroom suite with our two children, 11 and 14. The bedrooms were large and sunny. The kitchen was well equipped and the living room was comfortable. We had a great view of the Caribbean and the hotel pool. Days were spent lying on the beach, snorkeling, snacking, getting a massage and floating and swimming in the calm turquoise water. […] Staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel matches the low-key vibe of the island. We definitely plan to return and will definitely stay at Ixchel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Beautiful hotel with great location"
The hotel was beautiful and the staff were all very nice and helpful. The view of Playa Norte from our penthouse room was amazing! The hotel is very conveniently located on the beach as well as at the end of the main strip, Hidalgo St., where the majority of the restaurants, bars and shopping are. There are also some nice restaurants/bars within walking […] distance on the beach as well. They only pitfall was the bed, it was quite hard and uncomfortable. Other than that, everything was excellent! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Exceptional hotel on the beach in Isla Mujeres"
Terrific room, great location, good service! The room was 301 on the 3rd floor overlooking the pools with view of the beach. It was lovely, spacious, clean, quiet and very comfortable. The bed had a thick foam topper and we slept beautifully. Clean tile floors, granite counters in the spacious kitchen, fan in the bathroom, large balcony, wi-fi. The service […] was excellent, with plenty of purified water in the room. The pool was clean, with plenty of lounge chairs, and there were lots at the beach also. Pretty beach, nice soft white sand, drinks and food easily available. We loved being right on the beach, and also close to Hidalgo St, where many great restaurants, shops and tour operators are. It's a short walk to the ferry, but we took a cab, which was about $5. Loved it! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Best part of the beach"
The beach is beautiful and very clean. There are plenty of beach chairs and umbrellas and when you walk out to the beach, they are ready to move the chairs wherever you want and to put up umbrellas for you. The only thing I wish I knew in advance (and I studied this hotel alot) was that all you have to do is ask and they put a memory foam topper on […] your mattress. The bed was extremely hard and we found out about the toppers when we was checking out. The only other issue was that you have to ask for extra towels from the start because room service was always later in the day and if you plan on showering before going to dinner, you'll need to have extra towels from the day before. "Fell in Love with Isla Mujeres"
My ratings of consistent 4 out of 5's are mainly because we were never in the Hotel - we were out exploring!! When we were at the hotel, everything was good. The Front Desk staff were always friendly with great eye contact. The room we had was basic, and comfy for a 5 night trip. The shower was large, great water pressure, with OK towels. The Air Conditioning […] worked very well in our room. The TV was OK, but again - we weren't in Isla Mujeres to watch TV. Room Service was good. The Wait staff on the Beach were awesome, if you run into Arturo, "R2D2" - he is a class act, and provides great service. The Chairs provided on the beach were very comfortable, and they have great umbrellas. There is a Massage Area on the beach in front of the Hotel and it looks like they have great specials. Next door to the Hotel is Luxury Golf Cart Rental, and I highly recommend you rent a Golf Cart from them versus someone by the Ferry. They are all the same price - regardless of condition of cart. Being able to ride around the town on the Golf Cart was one of our favorite parts of the trip. Also, - THIS IS IMPORTANT - You should not use your American Cash for your food, beverage, and other purchases - GET PESOS. You will get more for your money and have a better time. "Beautiful rooms, located on the best beach on isla"
we spent one beautiful week on Isla Mujeres, staying at the Ixchel. Our room was clean, spacious and beautifully decorated. The hotel is right on the beach, and staff set up chairs and umbrellas for you as soon as you set foot on the beach. They bring you whatever you need: drinks and food. The staff at Ixchel all speak English, and are very happy […] to give you recommendations and directions if you need them. They will arrange golf cart rental for the day. On a side note, I'd recommend Happy Day tours if you want to go snorkeling. They take you out on a boat to a beautiful reef where you can see loads of gorgeous fish, and we even saw a turtle. Incredible! Also, a fantastic restaurant is Los Fueguitos, an argentinian place. It's not on the main road, it's near the town plaza just past the road with all the other restaurants. I can't tell you how good the food is, and it's a gorgeous location; you can sit right by the water with the waves crashing against the rocks. Very romantic! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

This is a nice hotel on the beach. The units are owned by individuals and are decorated and out-fitted to the owners taste. One block from the main street for dining and shopping. Close to the pier. A little noisy in the mornings. The pool is small, but they do a great job at the beach with plenty of beach lounge chairs, umbrellas and staff. Not super luxurious, but we were not looking for super luxurious. Very nice rooms and wonderful beach. Location was excellent for walking to many restaurants, shopping, beaches. Ixchel Hotel more than met our needs. Nothing fancy, but the price was right. It has friendly and efficient staff, clean rooms, excellent beach, restaurant has good food, easy access to the town. "Best choice on Isla Mujeres by far!!"
Condos rented as hotel rooms with wonderfully decorated and maintained rooms. Compared to the other hotels I have stayed at on Isla Mujeres, this was by far the best yet. "Sister's Loved it!"
My sister and I (58 and 63) stayed in this hotel for a week the end of February. Very clean! Right on the best beach on Isla! Ocean is beautiful! Staff were great.....friendly and prompt. Room was basic, but there are lots of options for types of rooms. The Isla is very laid back, so if you're looking for lots of night life- stay in Cancun. LOTS of […] restaurants; most inexpensive, all within walking distance. We walked through many of the hotels on the north end of the island, and the Ixchel was the best for location, comfort, and value! My only complaint were the pillows. "We Will Come Back to the Ixchel Beach Hotel!"
We had a great stay at the hotel. It's right on the beach (Playa Norta) and at the end of Hidalgo Street, which is where most of the restaurants and shops are so the location is perfect. Our "room" was really a mini condo with a small but functional kitchen (sink, microwave, stove, and a basic set of dishes, pots, and utensils), a dining room, a living […] room with a flat screen, a covered deck that overlooked the property and beach, a large bathroom (tile, glass shower doors, one sink with lots of counter space), and a good sized bedroom with a closet and shelves. Lots of windows in every room so we could get a cross breeze. Everything was very modern, light, spacious, and clean. The bed was hard and pillows could have been more comfortable but that is pretty standard for Isla. Some of the reviews mentioned a problem with housekeeping staff taking towels and not replacing them but we didn't have any issue at all with the towels or linens. Staff was courteous and facilitated a golf cart rental for us so all we had to do was walk down from our hotel room and hop in. They filled out the forms for us and handled getting it to and from our hotel so that was one less thing we had to worry about. Beach service was prompt. They gave us towels, chairs, and an umbrella free of charge. We only had margaritas and guacamole on the beach and they were fine. Otherwise we didn't eat in the restaurant. "Best location in Isla!!"
We loved our stay at Ixchel. We stayed in the new phase of the hotel on the second floor. The room was perfect. It was very large, had a huge bathroom and an amazing ocean view as well. The room was decorated nicely and the finish-out was very nice (granite, nice appliciances). The beach front at Ixhcel is amazing. We walked the whole North beach and […] it is clear that Ixchel has the largest and nicest beach area. In addition, the staff that works at the hotel restaurant and bar are the best. They were super friendly and very accomodating!! Also, Ixchel is walking distance to the main downtown area of Isla. Only one block before you reach Hidalgo street where are the main restaurants and bars are located. If you are wanting a 4 to 5 star place near downtown, this is the place to stay! It is definitely more adult friendly as there is not many children or children friendly-activities, but it is great for anyone (couples, families, or older kids). We will be back! Good hotel for families. Large rooms and balcony. We had three people and the living room couch was leather and not very comfortable for the third person. Kitchen was well equipped even through we did not really use it. Beach is beautiful but a bit crowded. This was our fifth time staying at the Ixchel. We've toured other hotels when we've stayed in Ilsa Mujeres before, but we find that the Ixchel is superior. The hotel is very well located on Playa Norte (North Beach). It is very clean and has been very well kept up. Our room appeared to be recently painted with new artwork and rugs. The staff has always […] been very friendly and competent. In fact, there appears to be very little turnover in the staff. We will definitely return again to the Ixchel. "Fantastic rooms, dishonest hotel management"
We reserved a one-bedroom suite with ocean views, and we definitely got that. The rooms are beautiful - it was more like an apartment than a room, with a separate bedroom, living room, full kitchen w/fridge, and big bathroom. We were pleased with everything about the hotel - UNTIL our check-out. The morning that we checked out, my husband had to call […] his work voicemail, and he used the phone in our room. We were told that all phone calls were charged at $4 per minute, so he made sure to keep the call under one minute long. When we went to check out, however, the clerk said we had a balance to pay of around 450 pesos - that's over 30 US dollars! We inquired as to why, and he showed us a printout that said we had made 7 phone calls at various lengths throughout our stay. We were shocked because the only call that was made was the 1 minute call to voicemail. We tried explaining this, and the clerk called his "manager" who wouldn't reverse the charges. At this point, we were already late getting to the airport, and the "manager" finally agreed to delete just two of the phone calls we had supposedly made, which still left a balance of around $26 dollars. My husband was furious, but I didn't want to miss our plane, so I just paid the amount. We were NOT happy, though. Anyone who's vacationed in Mexico knows that Americans are a target for getting ripped off, and we were really careful the whole trip. So to have it end this way was beyond disappointing. "Ixchel Beach Hotel"
This is a convenient hotel right on North Beach, so it's perfect for the tourist. If you want a quiet experience though, you may not want to stay downtown. This stay was in a two-room suite and it was very nice to have a table, kitchenette, etc. Wi-fi was not consistent (constantly disconnecting), towels weren't stocked (you really have to ask for items […] like washcloths), bathroom sink still was smeared with toothpaste when I arrived, etc. That said, the front desk staff are very attentive, beach towels/palapa/chair rental is complimentary, and they do a good job cleaning the common areas. There was construction when we went though, so at 6:30am, the noise started. This is expected when the outside temperatures rise so quickly, but it was still hard to endure on a vacation. "Great alternative to Cancun"
This was our first time staying on Isla Mujeres versus visiting as a day trip from Cancun. All I can say is that the entire experience was amazing and relaxing. Since September is the slow season, which I highly suggest going then, the hotel concierge recommended events for this time of season. He did not try to push any tours or packages but just provided […] excellent suggestions and let us decide. Absolutely no pressure!! When we decided on renting a golf cart for 24hrs, he took care of it and outlined on the island map all the neat things to do and eat that was inexpensive and fun! He recommended stopping at Zama Beach for lunch and a swim which was an excellent idea. It was beautiful and affiliated with Ixchel making it easy to charge lunch and drinks to our room while we were there. All the staff was just as accommodating. They even organized having our room decorated upon arrival, including a a birthday cake, for my boyfriend birthday. The hotel is so conveniently located in walking distance to shops, fabulous restaurants and right on the most amazing beach on the island. I feel it is the best location of all we had seen. Keep in mind these are all public beaches so I could imagine they could get a little crowded during peak times because it got a little crowded on Sept 15-16 which was their Independence Day and a holiday for locals. So just get up early and get your lounge chairs and you will have no problem at any time of year I would imagine. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great place to stay!"
The staff at this hotel was great, and the rooms were very clean. I could do without the smell of mold but I guess when your at such a hot humid place there isn't much they could do about it. "Located right on Playa del Norte"
Overall the hotel was very nice and the staff are excellent. Well situated on the beautiful white sand Playa del Norte. They keep the beach very well kept and clean. Nice pool. Didn't try the restaurant, but it didn't seem to be open a lot of the time (or was not well staffed). Our room was very large, with a large window facing the beach. We thoroughly enjoyed our first night at Ixchel Hotel in Phase 1 at room 510. The entire room was very clean and all the windows were crystal clear. Our second stay there was in room 210 at Phase 2 and although the room was clean it wasn't spotless. The windows and glass were not perfect and there was a little bit of a musty smell from mildew. It's […] an island, it's very humid when you leave the doors open the room will get moisture so I can't fault them for a little mildew. Overall it's easily a five out of five. Our second stay at the Ixchel. First time we were in room 703, pent house in the east tower, this time room 301 in the west tower. As always these are owned condos, this one was very nicely decorated, well kept and furnished, had tv and dvd players in both living room and bedroom as well as a large supply of DVDs. Balcony gets hot during the day since […] it's direcly facing the sun most of the day but pleasant at sunset with a great view. As always the concerge Mauricio helps make our stay a pleasant one, he arranges golf carts, diving, whale shark diving, etc... for you effortlessly and really cares about your stay. This time we stayed in July, in peak family vacation time. Ixchel should consider segregating the two pools making one adults only. Got pretty old having the pools invaded most of the day by young children screaming and splashing all day long, we had to pick and choose our pool time based mostly on when you could find a respite from the kids. Besides one bar tender with a bad attitude more interested in using his phone than dealing with guests, the staff is friendly and attentive. The Ixchel isn't really a full on hotel, but a shared ownership complex that rents out the owner's units to the public and offers quasi hotel amenities. You will notice the differences if you look, they walk a fine line between catering to rental guests in a hotel like fashion while also catering to the owners staying there. The early 8:00 pm pool closing is an example of this. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Best location, adequate room, fab beach"
This is one of the nicer hotels on Isla Mujeras. I would rate it quality-wise like a LaQuinta or Holiday Inn in the states. It was very clean with superb A/C but not fancy. Tile floors as in all of Mexico. It is not as beautifully decorated as an all-inclusive. It's much smaller too. It seems like 80% of rooms have great ocean views; ours didn't really. […] It was an obstructed view but we were literally steps from the ocean --awesome. The front desk staff was extremely helpful. The beach here is amazing. There is a private stretch for Ixchel guests with plenty of chairs and a nice attendant to dig a hole for your beach umbrella. And speaking of location, it's right next door to the sunset dinner at the Sunset Grille, which was breathtaking!! We were able to rent our golf cart just steps out the door of our hotel room from the nicest man, Edgar, in his little booth. For location alone I would return to this hotel. We easily walked to the public market and the pedestrian-only shopping market for souvenirs and dining. Though there is a very poor housing area right next door, which was sad to see (kids in the streets), we felt safe being out at all hours. I was told there are 60+ restaurants within walking distance of Ixchel Beach Hotel and I don't doubt it! The pool was tiny but very adequate and within view of the beach so my daughter could go back-and-forth. I also booked my car through Expedia which was a horrible experience and I can't seem to get help on that. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Suite sitting room underfurnished."
Overall excellent. But . . . we upgraded to a one bedroom suite. The sitting room was terribly underfurnished -- no television, just one futon that housekeeping made into a bed and one chair. There was no way to "hang out" inside without sitting on a bed.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice option on North Beach"
We stayed in a 2-room suite and it was very comfortable. Pretty much anything you could possibly want in the suite and the decor was excellent. The hotel grounds aren't fantastic - the pools are very small and the beach front is somewhat small for the hotel's size, but that's because it is right on the most popular area of the island. If you really […] want a sense of culture, stay elsewhere on the island, but if you want convenient access to North Beach and the main pedestrian stretch (Hidalgo St.) this place is a good option. We stayed at Ixchel Beach Hotel for 7 nights at the end of February. This was a great place to stay. The two bedroom suite we stayed in was on the first floor, and I was a little worried at first but it was great to be able to just walk out to the beach whenever we wanted. The rooms were clean and well decorated. The master bedroom had a kind size bed […] with an en suite bathroom. The second bedroom had two double beds with a bathroom of its own too, if you close the door separating the living room and the second bedroom. The sheets and blankets are kind of thin, but enough. The kitchen was great, came with a microwave, refrigerator, toaster oven, coffee maker, a whole bunch of kitchen supplies. There are sliding glass doors, huge ones, in both the living room and the master which open out onto the patio/balcony. Our patio had a 4 person table/chairs outside the living room and two recliners just outside our bedroom. It is about a 10 minute walk to and from the ferry which we took to Cancun once as well, which is convenient. The area is very safe. The hotel is literally a minute to a bunch of restaurants and little stores. There is also a grocery store about 5 blocks down as well. I would highly recommend this place. Isla Mujeres is also a fantastic place and Playa Norte is definitely the best beach on the island. I think my only issue here is that some people smoke on the beach sitting in their beach chairs under umbrellas which kind of ruins the fresh sea breeze sometimes. "Awesome location for relaxing trip & exploring"
Gorgeous beach! Best on the Island! Soft white sand on beach and in ocean. No sea weed areas in ocean. Plenty of chairs on beach and pool area. Towels available for hotel only. Beds hard but ask for cushion to place on bed. Hotel working on this change. Staff very accomodating to meet our personal needs/requests to make us happy and comfortable. Moved […] us to different room because of noisey neighbors last day of stay. Nice upgrade with several apologies from hotel staff. Personal bottled water cooler in room included in price. Hot water and pressure not a problem. Island is very safe for travelers. Rental of golf carts is suggested to see Island. Taxi available however cost more money going out of town that going in town. Bargain with them on cost, espcially if coming in to town. Food is awesome! Plenty of options to meet your taste. No fast food chains on Island. Thank goodness for that!! "Great views, great layout, beds a little hard"
We had a fantastic stay at the Ixchel Beach Hotel for a quick 3-night stay, mostly for a wedding at a neighboring hotel. I think we got upgraded at no additional charge to a room with the kitchenette as we were shocked when we entered our room. We had a great view of the ocean from our room and wouldn't be surprised if every room had similar views with […] the way the hotel is laid out. Our only complaint was the hardness of the beds and pillows. The mattresses are sitting on concrete blocks, which doesn't lend to the most comfortable sleep, but who cares when you can sleep on the beach. We didn't try out the restaurant in the hotel as we tried other restaurants that are small walk away, right down Hidalgo Street, which is what the hotel resides on. We would definitely return!
