Hotel Alexander I - Krakow

Convenient to many of the top sites in Krakow (walking distance). The street the hotel is located on is "gritty", however just around the corner 1/2 block away you'll find an endless run of shops, restaurants, bakeries and ultimately the city square and Cloth Hall. The guestrooms are small (with twin-sized beds), however appropriate for the price we […] paid, and equipped with amenities expected in a three-star European hotel. The in-room directory recommends not drinking the tap water and instead consuming the bottled water from the mini-bar. Not sure if the water really isn't safe to drink or if they're simply attempting to sell water. We boiled our tap water in the provided electric tea kettle (found in each room). The location of the hotel was very good and the staff was helpful. I asked for a double bed so two singles were slid together- That wasn't the best. The mattress was only about 4 inches thick, so not all that comfortable. Our room had an electric tea kettle, tea bags, coffee packets, creamer and sugar packets which was lovely for a cup of tea of tea before bedtime. The only problem was that in using the tea kettle it was necessary to plug it in at a floor level outlet in the bathroom. The room was pretty decent, standard stuff. The breakfast was very nice, lots of choices. The staff of the hotel weren't friendly, but they weren't unfriendly either. Could have been a language barrier thing. The TV didn't get sound to more than half the channels, the picture came in, but the sound just just a horrible screeching noise. Just got back from a 4 night stay at alexander reception staff very friendly.allocated our room this was not in the hotel it is in an annex room was 661.very clean room quality furnished 4 beds in this room.tv coffee tea kettle.but you are away from main hotel no internet conection as wifi signal not strong enough.seem to have problem with electrics […] in this room sockets went but reception stafff came messed in cupboard came back on.scarry 1 was when the lights went lights flickered then went off but when you turned on taps on sink or the shower they came on turn tap off lights went off.reception staff messed in cupboard to solve this problem again.breakfast was brilliant lots of choice and replenished regualy.if we had been allocated the main hotel i would have rated the hotel 5 but with the problems we had and the wifi i would not stay at this hotel again just in case we got the annex part of hotel. we arrived at the hotel alexander 1 and after booking in went to our room. I had asked for a double room and although the room was spotless the bed was against a wall and not overly big, with only 2 pillows. The bathroom had no shower cubicle and soaked the whole bathroom when having a shower. I realy would have liked a contained shower. The restaurant was the only meal available in the hotel. Excellent location for city centre. We walked from the train station and it took about 25 minutes. Superb breakfast. Friendly staff and we booked visits to Auchwitz & Salt Mines through the hotel. Great choice of restaurants within 5 minutes walk. We ate at Mamma Mia Italian 3 times as it was excellent value and nice atmosphere. Off season at 129 Zlty […] per night was incredible value!! I stayed in this Hotell, just situated 5 minutes from the main square in Krakows Old Town. My stay was just over night and the only thing I was mildly inconvinienced by, was the lack of Wi-fi that was only available in 'main hotel building'. this was a reasonably priced hotel in a good location. I saw some of the other reviews, but i am never sure if they are just disguntled or picky. My view. Yes the curtains are not wide enough for the window and let the light in anyway. If you are at the back of the hotal you are woken up at 7am or earleier by workmen, presumably in the factory next […] door, the sound of scraping spades etc. Breakfast - i saw the review saying get down before 8am to get a table. in my case going at 8.30am was better as most tourists were older germans who hit breafast around 7am. They did take all the nice bread rolls which werent replaced, however the breakfast is fine. the hotel is easy to walk to from the train station and very convenient for the centre of town. I had no problem with noise issues from other guests. the wi-fi only works in the reception area but is reasonable. the wired connection didnt work. The hotel is in a very good location just a five to ten minute walk from the main square. The room itself was satisfactorily but would have preferred a double bed. The bathroom was modern but the sink was awkward to use as it was small, tucked in the corner and had a glass shelf above it which was too close to the sink which meant you had to place your […] head under it carefully to rinse your face after shaving. The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel advertises a bar and although you can see pictures of it is only used for breakfast which for someone travelling alone was disappointing. Although we reserved a standard double room in THE HOTEL we were hosted in a room located in a SIDE BUILDING, in a first floor-room without elevator. In order to get to the dining room we needed to get out to the street and reenter the hotel. Hotellet besto av en hovedbygning, og flere tilleggsbygg. Mitt rom var til høyre for selve hotellet. Meget lytt mellom rommene, i etasjen over var det nok en vanlig familie som bodde. Hotellet är mycket centralt beläget på gångavstånd till allt i centrala Krakow. Det tar cirka 10-15 min att gå till stadens största torg. Ingången ligger dock på en bakgata som inte hade mått dåligt av lite ytterligare belysning. Detta var dock inte något stort problem. Jeg kontaktet hotellet dagen før vi ankom, og de ordnet sjåfør fra flyplassen. Så for første gang i livet stod en sjåfør med mitt navn på en lapp og ventet ved ankomst :) Sjåføren var hyggelig og serviceinnstilt, og prisen nesten latterlig lav ut fra hjemlig målestokk (80 zloty). Vel framme ble vi sjekket inn i et eget bygg. Hotellet var et eget bygg, […] så hadde de kjøpt en bygård som lå vis-a-vis og innredet rom her også. Rommet var rent og som ventet, med to unntak. Ikke varmt vann i vasken (dog var det godt med varmtvann i dusjen), og hotellets WiFi nådde ikke hit. Det var også svært lytt mellom rommene her. Etter en natt spurte vi pent i resepsjonen om å få et rom i hovedbygningen og det ordnet seg helt problemfritt. Det er verdt å nevne at hotellets WiFi opplevdes treg og ustabil (to smarttelefoner og to nettbrett). Hotellet ellers var rent og ryddig, resepsjonistene var alltid hjelpsomme og serviceinnstilte. Det var ikke safe på noen av de rommene vi hadde, og det var med en liten klump i magen vi lot nettbrett ligge igjen på rommet mens vi var ute hele dagen, men alt er talt opp og til stede i etterkant :) Hotellet lå i en forholdsvis rolig gate, og nær severdigheter og shoppingsenter i byen. Frokosten hadde enkelt utvalg, vi spiste brød med pålegg og hadde ikke noe å utsette på kvalitet eller smak.
