A fantastic bang for the buck! The staff were so friendly and attentive, in particular Jorge, Paolo, Andres, Maurillo, Viktor, and Victoria. Almost all of them had a good command of English. If there was something they didn't understand, it was actually fun trying to explain or learn the Spanish word. The resort is listed as a gay-friendly resort, […] but straight couples are also welcomed. The resort atmosphere makes it comfortable and relaxing for gay or straight alike. The resort has no beach and it is a bit of a challenge stepping down the rocks into the ocean (not recommended). There are open beaches north and south of the resort. We visited the beach to the south twice. It was only a 5 minute walk away. So not having a beach at the resort is not a major issue. The resort does have a private clothing optional section on the grounds. The accommodations were beautiful and the spa was awesome. Also it was a pleasant surprise when the spa passed out scented, cooling rags beside the pool. If there was anything we needed, the response was always quick. We are looking forward to returning again! Lastly, though all-inclusive, you can tip the staff during service or wait upon check-out. There is no difference in service either way. I booked a res for my partner and I from Jan 17-22, 2013 after reading mostly good reviews here on Expedia. I have to say our stay was truly fantastic. We had a very relaxing time and met some wonderful new friends […] from around the US and the world actually. The resort itself is not too big, beautiful designed and well staffed. The staff were extraordinarily kind and helpful. Victoria was our favorite. She brought us our breakfast everyday. I think the resort is ideal for couples although we met several single guys who seemed to enjoy it as well. I would agree with others that the food is not the best you'll find in the area but it's certainly not bad - by any stretch of the imagination. Order the chicken sandwich while lounging by the pool at lunch! The only disappointing aspect of our stay is that the resort doesn't really have direct beach access. We learned on our last day that the resort next door allows access to Adonis guests on their beach. There's also an amazing beach just a short bike ride (Adonis has bikes guests can borrow) down the road. We will definitely go back and will definitely stay at the Adonis again. A note to would-be guests - we rented a car for what ended up being about $25 per day and were thrilled with the decision. It makes getting here easy and getting to the beaches nearby simple. When we were there the guests were about 50/50 gay/straight. The Adonis has a spectacular view and a really nice pool. The rooms are spacious, but as other reviews have noted, there are some issues with hot water and the minibar. Neither was corrected when we raised it, but it didn't ruin our stay. The design and architecture of the hotel was superb. It is in the perfect location and beautiful even though it doesn't have its own beach but has a small access directly to the ocean. My wife and I stayed at the Adonis Tulum for our honeymoon. We knew it was a gay ressort and didn't have a problem with that. We traveled to Tulum in May and the hotel was almost empty. We were around 10 guests by the swimming pool in the busiest time of the day. Some times there was more staff than guests, but that was not a problem at all since our […] intention was to relax. Some of the staff was gay, others weren't. All I can say is, if you're comfortable with gay people around you, stay there and you'll love it. The gay staff we met were really happy that straight couples like us had no problem staying there (it seems some people booked without knowing it was gay and canceled their reservations once they got there). The staff was excellent. They were always paying attention to every detail, and always came to us with a smile. We were told that the hotel became a gay ressort recently and they are still working to advertise it better and attract more people, that's why it was so empty. I'm sure they'll succeed. Regarding the hotel itself. It is beautiful! We stayed in one of the Apolo suites in the Villa number 5, second floor with ocean view. The room was huge and clean, with a jacuzzi in the balcony. The hotel doesn't have beach access, but there are nice beaches 10 minutes by walk (you can also take a bike from the hotel). We recommend going to Playa Papaya. It was really close to the hotel. Rent a car to move around, it's only 25USD/day with the insurance! Read more

This gay market thing is new for this property, number one. Only one staff member we spoke with was gay, and they have no activities on site. They do some club music out of a single speaker by the pool bar during the day, but that's about it. We loved our room with a couple exceptions. The "ocean view" was not so much. Our room had a Jacuzzi on the patio, but took over an hour to fill up, and the water wasn't very hot. The iPod docked alarm clock was awesome, because while there are nice television sets in the rooms, the channel selection is aweful for non-spanish speakers. The decor was nice, and we felt at home most of the time. I wasn't a fan of the thin doors / walls / something (a bit loud in the morning). The bathroom was gorgeous, comfortable, and the safe was easy to use. We found the food not to be high end, but really good! Everything was cooked well, and the options and timing were well provided. We never ate a single meal off-site. The service was phenomenal. We found the staff to be playful, responsive, and always there with your anticipated next need. This place has fabulous grounds with amazing views, the best in the area. The Spa is way overpriced for Mexico, and they don't negotiate. My husband and I stayed here between Christmas and new years 2011. The place was dead, not many people at all which was surprising for this time of year. The hotel staff is always helpful in navigating their guests to the best spots in the Riviera Maya. We had a very clean, large and well-kept modern bedroom with amazing ocean views and an outside Jacuzzi, and it was always freshly cleaned when we returned from the beach, which is only a few minutes away. I would recommend all the paradise beaches south of Tulum Ruins. As for the restaurants, the waiters were always very attentive and friendly and willing to serve you in the best possible way, and the food was a delight—we loved the Mexican food, specially the empanadas, tostas de camaron, and other seafood meals. All staff really deserves a mention for the great service they provide. Spa was also great. We had a massage, exfoliation, hydrotherapy package and it was perfect. I really recommend Adonis for those who are looking for a peaceful, relaxing environment and unbeatable hospitality!! Adonis is probably the world’s best only gay men beach resort and is located in one of the world's most beautiful Caribbean settings. Spent 8 nights at Adonis and had a very relaxing stay. They are having a hard time attracting enough gays to make a go of this. Until they have a decent following, it will not be exclusively gay. While we were there, there were generally a few non-gays and they were actively touring couples (assume for weddings). I would guess that they had 25 guests […] at any given time at a resort built for 200 people. At no point while we were there did any of the guests seem surprised that it was gay-focused and the staff was most accommodating. The rooms and the entire resort is immaculate and well cared for. The restaurants were what all-inclusives are....basic menus that are designed to appeal to the masses. You will be happy here for a few days, but good food is a short cab ride away and affordable. Beach requires leaving resort (but is only 500 m down the road). Do visit Grand Cenote and we biked down to Sian Kaan (great beaches along the way to stop for drinks/food). Spa was also great - massage, exfoliation, wrap package was tremendous. If you are looking for a place to get away from it all and relax by the pool or under a palapa ocean-front, it is a great place. 24 hour room service is also great. Your biggest challenge will likely be getting water (they don't re-stock the mini bars during your visit but will provide upon request). I wouldn't plan on it being gay-exclusive any time soon. Internet was expensive (US 75/week) and limited to 1 device and only in the room areas. Read more

I didn't like that but it wasn't a big deal. The Mexican restaurant is AWESOME, I really liked the food there. I enjoyed every single dish that I tried. Breakfast and Asian restaurants are also good. Considering the size of the resort I think the selection of drinks and food you can get is really good. El hotel está conformado por varias "villas", cada una de las cuales tiene un Concierge que soluciona al momento cualquier requerimiento. El único punto en contra (y hasta cierto punto) es que el hotel no cuenta con playa, ya que a pesar de localizarse frente al mar, el acceso es sumamente difícil debido a que se encuentra en una zona rocosa. Para subsanar este punto, hay un acuerdo en un club de playa aledaño al hotel para ser utilizado sin cargo. A mi gusto les falta organizar actividades para integrar y animar a los huéspedes. El pueblo de Tulum no ofrece atractivos turísticos mas allá de sus majestuosas ruinas; para esto hay que desplazarse a Playa del Carmen, a unos 45 minutos del hotel. Hay varias opciones de transporte económico: camión y colectivos. También hay varias excursiones que se pueden tomar como visitas a los parques X-Caret, Xplor y Xel-ha, así como a las ruinas de Cobá y visita a los múltiples cenotes que hay por la zona. Read more

Vi hadde lest at dette var et hotell for homofile, men at "vanlige folk" også var velkommen. Det viste seg at det var like mange vanlige par som bodde her også. Rommene var store og fine. Personalet var helt fantastisk. Det var ikke fullt, så man fikk mulighet til å slappe av og kose seg uten bråk. Maten kunne vært bedre, men frokost og lunsj restauranten […] var veldig bra med god mat og godt utvalg.Hotellet hadde ikke strand, men man kunne bruke stranden på nabohotellet om ønskelig. Hotellet hadde et område der man kunne gå ut i vannet og bade, og store doble solsenger med tak over, så dette holdt lenge for oss. Hotellet hadde også gratis sykler til leie, så det var lett å komme seg til Tulum ruinene og strendene rundt omkring. Det var fast pris med taxi inn til sentrum, og tok kun 5 min med bil. Spahuset på hotellet var helt fantastisk! Det er det fineste spaet jeg har sett noe sted, med mange rom, steder å ligge og slappe av og mange valg av spatimer.
