Nice rooms, good breakfast, minimal facilities, and decent service in this Hotel. Location is close to Plaza de Espana, but further away from the center (20-minute walk).

Very nice boutique hotel. Comfortable and friendly staff. Reasonable rates and free wifi. While it is right near the metro and close to the placa espanya, there isn't much else around. In other European cities I traveled through, I was able to get lost in the neighborhood and find restaurants and cafes to stop into and try. Hotel Vila Emilia didn't […] have too many interesting eateries within walking distance. But, like I said, it's easy to take the metro anywhere from the hotel. The only other negative thing I had an issue with was the strong scent throughout the room and lobby. Like other reviewers reiterated, they need to turn down the perfume smell. It's a bit harsh. The hotel is sleek, well-designed, fresh, and quiet. The only downsides were that: (1) it's located about 8 blocks away from major areas of interest (just a little far away); (2) the hotel staff that greeted us refused to give us WiFi codes for more than 2 devices (there were 2 of us, and each of us had 1 smart phone and 1 laptop/tablet; the front […] desk said "forget it; it's impossible" to give us a WiFi access code for each device); and (3) the 2 double beds were pushed up right next to each other (with no room in between). On the plus side, it was pleasant to walk off our meals with the extra distance between the major attractions and the hotel (there's also one subway stop only a block away, and taxis were plentiful and inexpensive), the concierge was very helpful (and gave us great restaurant recommendations nearby), the room and the beds were very comfortable, and the hotel was extremely attractive and peaceful. I intentionally erred on the side of choosing a hotel a bit further away from La Rambla to ensure a quiet environment, but when I actually walked through the Barri Gotic, I realized there were some nice hotels there in hidden alleyways that were probably pretty quiet as well. Overall, Hotel Villa Emilia was a great place to stay, especially for the price. If I were to visit Barcelona again, however, I'd probably consider a place off of Placa Catalunya or in a quieter part of Barri Gotic. Read more

After our cruise, we stayed at Villa Emilia for one night. The taxi ride from the cruise terminal to the hotel was less than 15.00 Eu. The staff was especially helpful and accommodating. It was a bit far from the city center (good to get away from all the tourists) but still close enough to catch a short metro ride to Las Ramblas. We chose to walk Gran Via to Las Ramblas -- only a 15 minute walk. The area surrounding the hotel is not crowded by tourists, which is one thing I really liked. Front desk staff was variable. Some good and helpful, others did not want to be bothered with any questions. It is a little far from the center of activities. Next time, I would choose a hotel close to or on the "hop-on/ hop-off" bus route. There is a nice super market within a 100 meters of the hotel. It had good prices and good selections.

Great hotel for the price. Our room was clean and modern with the best feature being the staff who are English speaking and very helpful. We were coming off a cruise and were able to check in early (12 noon) and get something to eat in the hotel restaurant. We were offered the breakfast special as an extra (11 euros/person) and the food was fresh, delicious […] and there was american coffee! Also offered is afternoon tea or coffee with pastries. Excellent customer service and friendly, helpful staff. The b'fast buffet is a tasty, good deal. Take advantage of it because there is not much close by for breakfast. The only oddity is that there was no bar soap, only body wash but no wash cloth.?? Easily remedied for $0.75 at the corner store. Great location - right on the doorstep of the Rocafort metro, and only 4 blocks away from the Urgell Aerobus stop. One metro stop away from Placa Espanya to take the R5 train to Montserrat. We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Emilia. It is stunningly beautiful, chic, hip and very clean. We were delighted to learn that they offer free coffee, tea and croissants everyday at 4pm to hotel guests. It's a nice touch. It is also very close to the Aerobus which takes you to the airport for only 5,30euros. A cab would cost 30euros. We stayed here only […] one night before returning home. Had we stayed in La Rambla for the last night, getting to the airport would have been much more of a hassle. There were only two negatives: 1) The Eixample neighborhood is probably not our favorite. It's close to Placa de Espana which is great, but the surrounding neighborhood was not what we were looking for. We enjoyed La Rambla much more. 2) There was a fragrance used in the cleaning solution which smelled great but was so overwhelming we had to open the windows to stop coughing. Similiar to other reviews, we found the hotel to be really nice. Cool place, good room, really nice helpful staff, great little bar on the roof. It's only fault was that it's not in one of the coolest neighborhoods. The neighborhood it's in is safe and it's only a block to a really nice subway system, so you can't complain that much. Had a very nice stay at the Villa Emilia. It's a nice boutique that has many of the features of an upscale hotel without all the fluff. I.e. I don't need a doorman, or a bellboy, or any of that stuff, and the Villa Emilia doesn't offer it. Yet the rooms are nice, the hotel is clean and well decorated. Loved the rooftop bar with reasonable (for a hotel) […] prices for a glass of wine. Two issues: 1. The elevators are slow and confusing 2. The Hotel Villa Emilia is in a quite neighborhood very close to the metro. My husband and I rented bikes and the hotel staff let us keep them in the basement garage at night. That was awesome. When we checked in we were told by the employee at the front desk that we get complimentary breakfast. The next morning we get up and go to the restaurant and eat breakfast, and following that we were charged 13 euro each. We tell the restaurant worker that we were told that we receive complimentary breakfast, and he told us to speak to the front desk […] employees. They checked and told us that our room did not come with free breakfast. We told them that we were told that it did, and that's why we ate there. We would not have eaten there had we known we would be charged. They told us to speak to a manager who over the 3 days we were there showed up for 4 hours (during which we were out in Barcelona), so we were never able to talk to them. We told every employee to relay our message to the manager that we would like a refund since we were told by one of them that we get a free breakfast, and no employee ever talked to the manager for us. We ended up having to pay because one of the employees told us the wrong thing. Read more

Great experience, highly reccomended and will return there on my next visit to Barcelona. Location was great, one block from the subway, the buses and taxis. Many restaurants and a great convenience store in a 1 block radius. The room was big, very sophisticated decor with gorgeous hardwood floors, had strong A/C, and a fancy washroom. The rooftop patio/bar-lounge […] was a great cap to our nights, and the barstaff recommended a beach outside of Barcelona that was the highlight of our stay (Tossa del Mar). The hotel was quiet, maybe 10 suites per floor, and guests were mostly mature (not geriatric). At 28 we were visibly the youngest couple there. Did not try any in-house meals so no input there. I can't think of one thing i didn't like. Not a busy nightlife area but we weren't there for that. Read more
