Pousada de Tavira - Convento da Graca - Tavira

For anyone traveling in southern Portugal, a stop in Tavira is highly recommended. We found the town very charming with excellent restaurants and services. The Pousada de Tavira was exceptional with a very attentive, english-speaking staff. From the bus stop the Pousada is a short but uphill walk.

Absolutely perfect stay. It was luck that I chose Tavira and it was so beautiful. This hotel was ideal for a quiet, luxury break away from it all. I was hesitant about the Algarve but Tavira is nothing like the tacky resorts I dreaded. It is picturesque and that people are so lovely. The staff could not do more for us. We were these in Oct so things […] were even quieter. We had no plan decided what we wanted to do each morning and within 30 mins a hire car would be arranged, bikes......whatever we felt like. A true 5 star experience. Breakfast is great, including the prosecco! I enjoyed my stay very much Hotel was lovely breakfast was good and staff very pleasant.Pool was lovely and area well maintained If I was to quibble it would be that service was slow and staff not always available e.g. when you wished to order lunch. The hotel building is a beautiful converted convent and is a very pleasant combination of old stone and modern glass and marble. There were lots of places to just sit and relax but the nicest area was in the central cloistered courtyard which was set up for dining or just relaxing on sofas. We were looking for a short, convenient and quiet 'chill out' break in an up market hotel. The Pousada de Tavira met all our needs and more. A beautifully restored historic building retaining character and ambiance with really pleasant and helpful staff. We enjoyed our brief stay at this beautifully restored and decorated hotel in a convenient location for sight seeing in Tavira. Parking was convenient also. Beautiful grounds and pool area. Lovely converted monastic buildings situated very close to the heart of the quiet town of Tavira which has only broken the tourist horizon in recent decades. The hotel has a peaceful atmosphere with very friendly staff and splendid food. We found the staff spoke excellent English and as my overall review states it is worth a visit Parking in the grounds of the former Convent was free and secure A tranqil spot to stay and a swimpool to relax in...It is only a short 5mins walk to town....but remember which narrow street to the Convent. as it is just wide enough for 1 car We found an excellent […] family run restaurant over the old river bridge....turn left for about 200m along the bank and there is a small lane on the left. At the end of the lane facing you is the restaurant whose fish meals are great at 10 euros The small town has the usual small shops etc and we stayed as it was an overnight from Lagos/Portugal to Cordoba/Spain 3 hrs30mins away BUY YOUR PETROL /DIESEL in Spain it is 20cents per litre cheaper NOW THE NEGATIVE SIDE.... the Convent is like finding the proverbial needle in the haystack due to the myriad one-way streets ALL seemingly going in the wrong direction Even the desk staff said so It was only with the help of a local who took pity on us that she drove ahead to show us the way If you down load a Map of the area and feel confident....great But if in doubt...leave it out for no other reason that it has NO signs to the Convent and if you can cope with one-way lanes Read more

An oasis in the historic center of an enchanted town, (not overrun by tourists), yet enclosed, peaceful, private, luxurious in an unobtrusive way. The courtyard of the former convent is an architectural gem! One critical suggestion: Rooms should be designated either smoking or non-smoking!
