The Historic Taos Inn - Taos

The Taos Inn is my favorite place to stay in Taos. I dont always stay there as the price varies and when it is too high I stay elsewhere. It has a very historic presence and is close to a lot of local attractions. I personally enjoy the music they have most nights, and the food is very good as well.

Friendly, welcoming staff. Large, comfortable room with wood burning fireplace. Inn has personality and charm not found at chain motels. Has comfortable lounge/bar area with evening entertainment. Food at restaurant was very good. A very pleasant experience and good value.

We always like staying at the Taos Inn. The food at Doc Martin's is excellent and the Adobe Bar is a great hangout. We always feel like we are "home" when we are there. It would be nice to have wi-fi in the room and a place to set cosmetic bags in the bathroom other than the floor, but those are minor problems in the overall experience. The best place to stay in Taos for sure. A beautiful historic New Mexico building, centrally located in town, that has great service along with a great bar and restaurant. Some of these old rooms can be a bit drafty at night so make sure you warm your bones and have a drink by the fireplace in the bar.

I loved it !!! Very beautiful and felt a little like I was stepping back in time. It is beautifully decorated with lots of colors. If I'm ever back in the area, I will definitely return there.

The Taos Inn is the place to stay in Taos. Everything was perfect with one small negative comment - my room was right off of the bar area, and the live music was (understandably) very loud. It lasted until 10:00 and after that everything was fine. I am sure that this would affect only the couple of rooms that are just down the hall from the bar.

The room's decor was French except for the adobe walls and fireplace. How does that fit into the atmosphere of a rustic historic Taos Inn? Desk service was extremely slow and uninterested.

We have stayed at the Historic Taos Inn on two occasions. The first occasion was great, the second stay was not so great. Not all rooms at the inn are the same, the room we stayed in was in poor condition. The air conditioner made ear piercing squeaks sporadically throughout the night. I'm not being picky here, it sounded like a car with loose power […] steering belts was idling in the room with us. This ambiance was enhanced by the burn marks throughout the old carpet in the room. Upon our arrival at the inn, they were unaware of my reservation that was booked and pre-paid 1 month in advance through expedia. The man behind the front desk was generally clueless and had to get a manager. The manager did apologize and said that they have trouble receiving reservations from several travel websites. I notified the front desk during my checkout that the air conditioner was having problems and was making loud noises all night. Instead of offering to discount my stay or perhaps credit me for a future stay I received a response of, "Oh, OK." from the front desk staff. Therefore, they are getting a nasty review from me. We were into adventure and chose the historic hotel from those offered on Expedia (at a "guaranteed lowest rate") as a special treat. The hotel did not disappoint when all things are considered. I will return there, but I'll book my room directly with the hotel and choose my accommodation based on my personal desires rather than "guaranteed lowest rate." Each night there is musical entertainment and it can, of course be heard loud and clear in the rooms in the main building -- especially if it is during the time of year when you don't need evaporative cooling. We were there in August and did need the cooling, which did a good job temperature wise, and was loud enough to drown out the music most of the time. This is a very unique hotel, and staying here is an experience. The nightly band in the lobby, with a crowd of local regulars, really separates the Taos Inn from a "regular" hotel. This is a nice property, but one issue is a problem. The windows in our room did not open. The windows are expensive, with blinds in between the two panes of glass, but you cannot get fresh air. When we went into the room that we were suppossed to be in, my daughter and I were very dissapointed by the size. It was small and cramped feeling and over some loud music from 7-10 at night. The lady at the front desk was very nice and moved us to the newer part in the back and gave us a king size bed. It was nice and very quiet with a nice little […] court yard with a fountain. Air conditioning worked but was so loud you could not be in the room with it on. In June with window open still pretty uncomfortabel even in the night. Nothing a ceiling fan wouldn't help. Or a more quiet circulation fan.

We loved this place! The rooms overlooking the lobby were fun. Live music every night, convenient table and chairs on balcony to watch and listen. If you don't like loud music until 10 pm, book one of the rooms in the back of the hotel. They are even more charming----and quiet.

This hotel had it all -- charming adobe rooms, friendly staff, great restaurant, live music, and perfect location near the plaza. We ordered a room service breakfast and ate it in the courtyard outside our room. Can't beat it!

The room was a bit dingy- nothing horrible or dirty, but in need of an update and a few fixes, some minor, some major. The layout was awkward, with the mirror and so forth part of the main room, meaning an early riser will likely wake the other by tooth brushing and other morning ablutions. The bed was hard, the windows in bad need of blackout curtains […] to block the very bright porch lights, but the biggest issue were the thin walls- we got an early wake-up from the couple in the next room.... There is no on-site breakfast available for purchase during the week, but it is such a great location and you can walk to a local coffeeshop-- most of what you might want to do is in easy walking distance, other than the pueblo. Free onsite parking is nice as well, and staff were friendly. Cute common areas, and some nice places to sit outside. No internet in rooms without an ethernet cable, which the hotel can provide. The Taos Inn has a half dozen rooms above the attractive and well-used lobby and next to the restaurant that are quite affordable. The hotel also has rooms in separate buildings out back. The location is great, right in the center of Taos and the hotel has lots of historic charm! The good stops there. Our room was right above the bar, there are more distant rooms but apparently not available for Hotel.com reservations, and the heating system had no controls. We had both windows wide open in January and could not get the room below 80. […] The room was quaint but the years had taken their toll. When you opened the door it swung to the stop with a clang as the floor had settled several inches over the years. We went to the bar for a drink and a bite to eat but were informed the kitchen had shut down, even as the table next to us placed an order. The menu claims world famous margaritas but rightfully so they did not say why they were world famous. I have heard rumors of establishments that save their favorite rooms for hotel.com reservations but I have never experienced anything to substantiate the rumor, until now. The Taos Inn is a very unique establishment. A one of kind place that is full of character. Some of the character comes with the territory and some comes with the staff. No coffee in the rooms. Nuisance to go down to the main lobby to get coffee. Pots were usually empty. Room was too small. One double bed for two people? No ice machine. Had to get ice from bar--bartender was surly about it. No surface area in room to put anything on like wallet, glasses, etc.

Excellent destination. This hotel is at the epicenter of Taos. It has all the qualities of Pueblo style architecture and the staff is amazing.

Our original room had ceilings that were too short for my tall husband, and the desk clerk immediately told us we could upgrade to a newer room with high ceilings. In fact she encouraged the change which turned out to be very nice, and most welcome. Our new room was very nice. The live music in the lounge was great as was the restaurant.

This historic property in the heart of Taos has pure Taos charm. We stayed in one of the modern units in the back, which were very quiet. The old building rooms are adjacent to the bar, which has live music many nights, so plan accordingly. Free parking right in the heart of town is a plus.
