We had a very good time and the hotel was close to work.

Very nice hotel, within walking distance to subway for access to Manhattan (take the 7 or E and you can get to grand central, times square, penn station). Just a few blocks to local restaraunts. The room was very clean, excellent staff, free shuttle to subway. Overall an excellent place to stay if your touring new york city. One note, if you are considering a "view room" save your money, the view is obstructed by a number of taller buildings (the hotel is only 7 floors). Overall an excellent experience and I would definitely stay again, especially at the rate because of the new hotel discount. If you plan to take a cab from the hotel call one yourself because the service the hotel uses charges a flat rate to specific areas and you can get a cab on your own for cheaper generally.

comfy bed, nice bathroom, great staff at front desk, wireless access easy, computer in Lobby new and rapid. Parking garage reasonable rate. Great spot nearby:EatIly--check it out for restaurants and goodies to bring home. Only improvement that could be made is quality of towels.

Let the West Coast have Hollywood; Broadway’s lights are just as bright, and many screen actors come to the Great White Way to gain acting credibility. Area attractions include Carnegie Hall, Rockefeller Center, Radio City Music Hall, and the Museum of Modern Art. Resplendent St. Patrick’s Cathedral takes up a block at Fifth and 50th. Once seedy, Times Square now hosts ABC, MTV, and NASDAQ.

"Perfect Times Square location"
Using Hotel Mela as our base, we saw 4 Broadway shows, ate in three world class restaurants and didn't walk more than 6 blocks in any direction. The rooms are actually large by NYC boutique standards, and you can almost literally fall out of bed into the Saju Bistro for breakfast, lunch or dinner, and across the street to see "End of the Rainbow." Second […] time we've stayed and we'll be back. Read more
I stay in many area hotels for business, but this was my first time at Hotel Mela. Although quite small, even for NY hotel standards, the room was very clean and comfortable. Because it is in the middle of the block, the noise is reduced, which is a plus. It is in the middle of times square, with easy access to subways and all of the atractions. I would […] definitely stay there again. Read more

"A great hotel in a great location"
Everything was great except for the door guy would rather just stand there instead of helping you open the door when your hands are full.

Excellent i enjoy it
When we arrived they gave us a room that was ridiculously tiny for two people, especially given what we were paying (even for NYC). We complained and were able to switch to a much more reasonable room for the balance of our stay. One we made the switch our appreciation of the hotel increase significantly.

"Would Only Recommend for Location"
The location for this hotel was AMAZING and really worth the rate to be this close to 42nd and Time Square. However the bed was way too firm and I believe was a full size not the queen I requested. The walls were very thin and the overall room was very small. But it was perfect if you don't want to spend much time in your room. The local pub The Long […] Room was perfect for a late night cap and the Cafe Un Deux Trio was ideal for breakfast in the morning. Everything is easily within walking distance including the Subway. For the price and location this hotel works, however if you want any relaxing time in the hotel please do not select this hotel. Read more
"3.5 stars"
Had a superior room in the back, which eliminated street noise, but there was a lot of noise transference from the hallway. The room was kinda small, but would be ok for 1 person. Was glad to find that the minibar had condoms for sale.

"Clean and convenient"
Hotel Mela is clean and convenient and surprisingly quiet, considering that it's near Times Square. The location is extremely touristy with very expensive chain restaurants near by. Probably not great for a family as the room is small but many NYC hotel rooms are. Within walking distance of major landmarks like Radio City Music Hall. Overall, the stay […] was pleasant enough for one night. Read more

"Hotel Mela in New York"
Hotel Mela is conveniently located a block a away from Time Square. It wad very clean and cozy. I was surprised to get such a great rate on short notice. The rooms are small but very confortable. I would definitely recommend this hotel for a romantic weeken.
"HOTEL MELA"
MY WIFE AND I LOVED THE PLACE. IT'S WHERE WE ARE STAYING NEXT TIME WE GO TO NY. CENTRAL LOCATION TO EVERYTHING. WE WALKED THE ENTIRE WEEKEND, EVEN TO AND FROM THE TRAIN STATION. CHECK IN AND OUT SMOOTHE AS SILK.
"Hotel Mela - New favorite nyc hotel"
Hotel Mela is a great hotel! The room was very spacious and clean. The location was great, just steps away from Bryant Park and Time Square. The only thing that may bother some people is that the lobby is extremely small, just the check in desk and a few chairs. As well as the elevators are very small, only fits 3-4 people. Other than that is was a […] fabulous stay! Read more

"Hotel Mela - Self-service dream!"
This was my second stay at the Mela. If you are the kind of person who doesn't need too much service in a hotel (concierge, etc), this is the perfect place. Not to say the service isn't great, because it is, but if you are a self-sufficient traveler, you will like it here. It is clean, comfortable and close to the lights of NYC! The rooms are compact, […] perfect for 1 person, maybe a little tight for 2, but if you are in NYC, you shouldn't plan to spend too much time in your room anyway! The location near Times Square is unbeatable. Being on the 16th floor helped with the traffic noise so try and request an upper floor room. I slept really well! I can't recommend it enough! I will be back! Read more

"return stay"
We really love this Hotel. It is well located, clean and service is friendly. This was our second stay and it is where we will stay when we return.
"Good location Dirty carpets Small rooms"
The hotel looks better in the picture because it was taken from the hallway. The bed takes up 85% of the floor space. The 15 % of carpet is dirty and gross. Had to put towels on the floor, only needed 1 1/2. Elevators look like they are from a FHA building. Staff friendly and helpful. Location was good for what I needed to do. Bring socks
"very cozy"
love the roon
When I arrived there was no reservation for me, booked thru Hotels.Com, but the staff worked with me to get a room. They upgraded me since my original request had already been taken. The location and accommodations were good. A nearby deli is great for breakfast or a light snack.

"Great location and clean"
The location of this hotel was stellar. It was a few blocks away from Times Square and was within walking distance of different attractions. The concierge was nice but the front desk was not the friendliest. Two of the three elevators were broken during our stay so waiting for the one elevator was frustrating. The hotel room was small but what I expected […] for being in the heart of the the city. The room was clean and up to date. Read more
"Hotel Mela.. So close to Time Square"
This little hotel was PERFECT! It was like 2 blocks away from Time Square. I walked out of the hotel and I could see all the lights to my left. It is such a cute hotel. I went by myself so my room size was perfect for one person I think it could get a little annoying with two people. I called the front desk at all times of the day and night and they […] were always pleasant. All food in NY is expensive but some if just ridiculous like their room service menu. The elevators are tiny but operational. They arranged a car for me to get to the airport. All in all it was an EXCELLENT stay. Read more

"Hotel Mela. A great find in a great location!"
My trip to NYC was for business and I am so glad to have discovered Hotel Mela. Just off 6th Avenue (Avenue of the Americas) and also close to Times Square (but just far enough away to not be bothered by the noise and lights). I was in the city for a trade show at the Javitz. I had no problems getting a cab each morning (the fare was about $5-7 depending […] on traffic) and enjoyed walking back to the hotel each night. The Mela staff was very helpful and friendly—when working with them face-to-face. However, I gave them a "3" in my review because they were very slow or completely unresponsive when calling the hotel or when I asked for things via phone from my room (like, requesting extra towels, having my bags brought up to my room, receiving a package, etc.) The hotel itself is a gem. I've stayed in several others in this same area of town that were as budget friendly but were completely gross. The rooms are small but are comfortable and quiet. There are robes and slippers in the rooms—a nice touch, especially for a hotel in this price range. And, the street the hotel is on has a great selection of restaurants and there is a little deli/grocery next door as well. When I need a hotel in NYC again, I will definitely try to book a room at the Mela first! I highly recommend it. Read more

"Good Enough"
We requested a 'Superior' room. I should have read the description of the room more carefully...incredibly tiny with a full bed! Like European hotel room small! Room also had a funny smell, but seemed clean. No view. Front desk staff was polite and efficient. Oversall, you can do better.
"Great location in the heart of the theater distric"
Very nice hotel in the heart of the theater district with 2 restaurants on either side. The room was nicely decorated but very small...no room for a chair or desk or any place to put your suitcase except on the floor or on the bed. Also, no ice machines.

"The Mela Hotel NYC"
Very efficient operation. Very comfortable rooms. Quiet location and because there is no lobby/bar etc people are in their rooms when they are at the hotel.Excellent French Bistro next door.
"Hotel Mela in New York"
This hotel was very convienent for when we went to New York for the New Year's. The location was great! the service was great and the room was amazing. The only problem I had was with the t.v. in the room. Could not figure out why the t.v. did not work even though we were in the room for sleep and to relax. I recommend this hotel to anyone who is trying […] to stay in Times Square and tour the city. Very convienent. Read more
"Very Pleased!!"

"Perfect for sightseeing"
Hotel is located jut steps from Times Square, the subway, and plenty of dining and entertainment options. The staff is very friendly, helpful, and knowledgable about the area and attractions. The rooms, while small, are clean, comfortable, and well-decorated. We greatly enjoyed our stay and plan on coming back.
"Hotel Mela - Location, amenities, service: A+++"
Pros: * Even though almost everyone before me has talked about it, I'm going to say again.. Stay here for the location, cannot get better than this esp. for the price * Excellent service, starting from keeping our requests for an upgrade, surprising us with extra goodies, letting us check-in early and storing our bags beyond our check-out time.. the […] hotel staff went above and beyond to meet our expectations * The size of the room seems to be a favorite among previous reviewers to complain about but our upgraded room was big and comfortable and huge by NYC standards Cons: * Can't think of any.. It may have been better to have a room facing the street (more light) but it was hardly an issue Read more
"1 night in Times Square"
So i went up with my gf for a night in the city and we picked this location for same reason your reading this review. Cheap and highly rated. Its a boutique hotel, its nothing extravagent but perfect if all you want is a nice place to stay downtown. It was really a place to crash since we were out sightseeing all day. The neighborhood is nice and walking […] distance to times square and Rockefeller Center. We had an interior room, which is a view of a brick wall, but if you want a quiet nights sleep its perfect! My only complaint was that the mattresses were kinda cheap. The pillows and linens were excellent and size of room was adequate. Elevators are small, but work. Staff was nice and helpful, and garage next door is not bad overnight rate for $40! If i had to go again i would choose this hotel. Read more
"little Apple in big city"
Very nice for anyone with a busy schedule in the city. I did not need a huge lobby or meeting place so it was perfect to get in and out. Would stay again.
So close to Times Square. Room was tiny though. I read other reviews before we went saying that and I thought it couldn't be too bad, but it's tiny! Good thing is the location is so close to everything that you're hardly in the room anyways! We loved our trip!
