Everyone at the hotel is very friendly. The location is perfect. Times Square is just down the street, a minute away from the hotel. We walked to all of the locations we needed to Times Square, Rockefeller Center, Radio City Music Hall, 5th Ave., Dylan's, Serendpity. We used the subway (located at Times Square) twice to go to Battery Park and to meet with our friends. The room was small, but that was expected, clean, and comfortable. Would stay there again when we go back

We reserved a deluxe room and were "bumped" to an executive room which was bigger. I didn't actually see the deluxe room to compare, but the executive room was a great size for the price we paid. It was decorated nicely and the room smelled fresh and clean when we walked in. The bed was very, very comfortable and the water pressure in the shower was fantastic. Can't beat the location if you are seeing a show. We had breakfast at the adjoining restaurant. The service was great, the food was pricey and not anything to speak of. I would suggest venuring elsewhere for breakfast.

The hotel has a convenient location to Times Square and Broadway shows. The hotel staff were helpful and the room was clean. However, the hotel has no lobby to speak of and the elevators are tiny, holding at most five people. The rooms are small as are the bathrooms. Our bathroom shower only had one shower door, and despite all of our efforts, a lot of water went onto the bathroom floor. I have stayed at a number of New York Hotels and unfortunately this hotel would be at the bottom of the list.

This hotel was perfect for our two night stay in New York. Every employee that we encountered was extremely polite and more than willing to help us with all our needs. They even gave us a complimentary room upgrade upon arrival. The room itself was very clean and I, myself, am a harsh judge of clean. I had no problem with the size of the room either. Hotel Mela was within walking distance of pretty much everything and when we wanted to go to Little Italy for dinner, they found a driver with a set rate for us who was absolutely wonderful. I will recommend this hotel to anyone going on a trip to New York and am looking forward to going back there again in the future.

Minor complaints include: faulty thermostat and/or AC unit (the room was very warm and impossible to remedy) and the towels were crappy (they shed a lot and weren't absorbent). Other than those minor quips, the room was great. We'd stay there again if the price was right.

Hotel Mela was outstanding in service and location! The rooms were small, but hey - it's Manhattan! The rooms are furnished with new, stylish furniture and flat screen TVs. VERY high-speed (20mbit) Internet is available wired or wireless, although the cables in both rooms we tried had broken clips. The staff was VERY friendly and accommodating. The people of NYC have changed a lot in the 20 years since the last time I visited! The only negative surprise we had was the lack of a view. Initially, we were given a room on the 2nd floor. It was a beautiful room, with windows on either side, but an opaque curtain covered it completely. When we opened the curtain, the reason became obvious. One room looked onto the roof above the lobby, and all the air handling equipment. The other window was at the bottom of an enclosed area, loaded with trash, and with only a view of brick and other windows in the same hotel. I asked for another room the next day, and they moved us up to the 5th floor, and a different section. This room only had one window, which opened to a different side of the enclosed area I saw from the 2nd floor.

we stayed at hotel mela for a quick romantic getaway weekend- we selected it mostly on location-and as far as the hotel goes we had no bad experiences-really only great ones- ive been working in the times square n'hood for 25 yrs and was very pleasantly surprised by the size and appointments of the room and the cleanliness-the entire staff was very friendly, helpful and responsive-really dont think you could do much better for value=comfort in this area of the big city. if you can take a bite of the hotel apple at a special rate then its really a steal and a value. a few extremely minor nitpicking criticisms were not a view at all (excepting hidden from the street adjacent building infrasctructure), the in room safe was completely missing (they quickly offered to send one up but by the time we noticed it wasnt there we were settled in.i said romantic), and the construction project right next door which we never heard but made coming and going a wee bit more diffuclt then usual in midtown manhattan, but hey thats visiting skyscraper park for you. all that being said if i was planning any midtown fun (or reccomending a hotel in the hood) id book here again in a flash. and we'd be real happy about it too. btr/nyc
