"Over all a good place for vacations"
I will said most of the hotel is good place to visit, my recommendations is on the room one is the pillows are very hard and difficult to sleep and have a sewer smell need to change more oftenGenuine Expedia guest review
"Our stay was wonderful. The view was great!"
The hotel was cordial and helpful. The food was very good. We had a great view of Banderas Bay. I enjoyed the water activities, especially the aerobics in the pool. The nightly shows in La Boheme were off good quality.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice Hotel, but I recommend better the Jalisco Riu"
I have stayed previously at the Riu Jalisco three times and have been pleased with the service and pleasant environment. This time I have decided to try the Riu Vallarta since it is fairly new and found it a little more expensive, my experience tells me that Riu Jalisco is by far a better option besides being more economic. At Riu Vallarta the entertainment […] was pretty basic (men versus women (who is better etc.) ) and mostly children's entertainment. The food was pretty much the same everyday (buffet for breakfast, lunch, and dinner) unless you have made (in advance) reservations to three other restaurants (Gourmet, Asian, and Ribs and steak).. The Gourmet, and Ribs and Steak restaurants were good, but not the Asian, which had a few Sushi items, but the food quality was not that great. I would recommend the Riu Jalisco versus the Riu Vallarta. If you want a pleasant environment good food and at an affordable price I definitely recommend Riu Jalisco. I did visit it while staying at the Riu Vallarta and learn that is in the process of being remodeled but, will be open by December 2013. I will definitely will stay at Riu Jalisco on my next vacation trip. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great time perfect weather"
It was good overall just a lot of people that weekGenuine Expedia guest review
We stayed at the Riu Jalisco last year and we had a great stay! but this year we decided to try Riu Vallarta. We arrived at 5pm and the front desk person (male) who was helping us had a tired attitude. He was not friendly nor rude. When he step out to get our room keys he stopped to talk to another person for about 10 minutes forgetting about us. I […] did not like that at all! because my family and I wanted to go to the room and relax for a bit after being on the plane for hours. Also, I did not get the two room types I reserved I got one king instead two single beds. One of the room bathroom's sink and bathtub were cracked. I went back to the front desk & he said he had no other option. The front desk male did not explained any amenities he just hand out the room keys and sent us to the bell boy. It was about 5:45pm when we were at the pool area figuring out where we could get some pool towels but, when we try to get the towels the lady said that they did not have any towels and we needed to go get our own towels from the room. She said that pool towels are available until 6pm but, since they were sold out they ran out of towels earlier. Up to that point I got really upset. The restaurant was dirty and messy however, the food was good. The night shows were ok but, nothing special. I love Riu hotels but, this Riu was a complete disappointment! "Nice but could be better..."
This hotel is awesome for families that want to have fun together. The staff there are very friendly and love to make drinks for adults and kids (no alcohol margaritas). The reason a rate it a three is because of the room cleanliness which was pretty bad. I mean the pillow you had to sleep with smelled like wet dog and my wife and i stayed in a suite. […] Also, the air conditioning was not all that great because it was too hot outside and the air conditioner could not keep up. The food was OK, but not great. For couples i recommend finding another hotel with more nightlife or events because here it is pretty slow. Over all the hotel is alright, but not what we expected. "Close to the Beach but far from the City"
The hotel at first glance is amazing, however after spending seven days you notice the flaws. The activities are mainly catered to those who speak Spanish. The pool guard was selective when choosing to enforce pool rules. Rules were only enforced on those who did not speak Spanish/ obvious tourist. The front desk was not friendly. No drink at may arrival as I observed other guest they received and orange jus at the the arrival. Secondly a tried to change from one bed two a two beds in my room and the front desk persona refused to changed it. Reason because that was my original reservation.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"The hotel was nice."
It was very nice. The best part is the sports and entertainment crew. They work very hard to make the place fun and entertaining. WE got to know them all very well. I loved how they sat and talked to us when they were'nt busy.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Horrible room condition"
I was so disappointed with our hotel stay. Our room was overpowered with cleaning products when we arrived I guessed to cover some other smell (boy was i right) I discovered mold on the shower curtain, ceiling. Some of the wait staff were very rude and not accomodating at all. Thankfully we got a nice server by the pool area. His name was Edgar and […] he was the only one that made our stay some what enjoyable. Very disappointing, I had heard a lot of good and bad things about the hotel, but decided to give it a shot. I have alot of friends who travel to Mexico and I will not be recommending your hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Average quality hotel close to beach."
Hotel needs updating. Rooms were okay. Beds were a little uncomfortable. Overcrowded. Pools were nasty dirty. Food was okay. Nightly entertainment was fun. Very far from downtown.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Very nice hotel!!"
We stayed for 5 days and travelled with a 4yr old and 8 yr old. HAD AN AWESOME TIME!! KIDS CLUB WAS GREAT. Staff is super friendly. Food is good but does need some variety. We dined at nirvana, flamingos and sir George. All great for adults but not for children. Poor dinner selection for kids at the restaurants. Buffet was only option. Rooms are good, […] we stayed on fifth floor very clean. Only complain is bed is very hard. Pool staff was also great, never had to wait too long for drinks. Otherwise great vacation. Do not try to have breakfast at 9:00 am. The restaurant was too busy. You couldn't find a table and people are rude. So we just had breakfast earlier and it was good.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Very good environment and food!"
I have been in many hotels and all hotels have something to improve but definitely the hotel has very good entertainment all day long and excellent food. Could be better if it had better if bed sheets and clean blankets. I will go again and recommend to my friends and family's very much but please improve on the cleaning of the rooms.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Do not stay here"
We went all inclusive I highly don't advise this the drinks are all watered down they don't tell you the pool and spa closes at 8pm on the website, the hot tub is cold. It was not what the photos show the workout facility is awful. It was definitely the low end of the Riu's don't stay there we were so disapointed.Genuine Expedia guest review
Riu Vallarta is awesome and the staff are so nice and helpfully. Theirs people always cleaning around the hotel and keep it well maintained. The shows they have are awesome and very funny. Diffidently would go back.Genuine Expedia guest review
had problems with my room from the first day , i had to switch room twice once because of a faulty lock on our door , second room no air conditioning . front desk could care less when i went down to complain the young man just kept rolling his eyes and saying that the problem would be fixed before 10 pm , i returned to my room after a night out and […] felt like i walked in to a sauna hot & sticky . next day i was introduced to Raquel head of public relations who assured me that she would resolve my problem , she never spoke to me again i saw her several times after but she would pretend not to see me , I left several messages and did not get one response after three days i gave up and decided to just leave the fan going & balcony door open all the time. "Nice stay but room to improve"
Good location and hotel was comfortable. Pool area was nice but wish bathrooms were closer to the adult pool also you need to have your towels on chairs by 7:30 in the morning or you likely won't be right by the pool. Meals were very good but reservations are hard to get.Genuine Expedia guest review
"If you like to party with teenagers stay here"
We were at Riu Vallarta during spring break so this may have something to do with our experience. Lots of teenagers were there (most with there parents) drinking and partying. If you want a quiet, peaceful day by the pool this is not the place. The beach was quieter, but also very crowded. The pool and beach area are not as big as they look online. […] The staff were great, had lots of activities and were very friendly. The food was okay, but we were only ever able to eat at the two buffets they offered as we didn't want to stand in line for 30+ minutes at 8am to make a reservation at one of the three other places offered. They did switch around the food at the buffet, but it was all pretty similar. The beds were awful - super hard and we woke up with a back-ache every day. We didn't experience anyone approaching us at the hotel for timeshares or going on outside activities which was nice. They said staff would remove towels at the pool if people tried to save spots in the morning - they didn't remove towels and people were very obsessive about getting their spots in the early am. We even saw one guy try to start a fight over a pool chair with an older man. If you are looking for a party a good place - if you are wanting to have a quiet relaxing vacation you might look elsewhere. We would probably stay in Vallarta next time so we had more options without having to take a taxi somewhere. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Overall good experience"
Overall our Riu experience was pleasant and I would recommend this resort to others. The food was quite good with a lot of variety. We did not get tired of it even after two weeks. The beach was very nice and there were enough loungers for everyone even when at maximum occupancy. The staff were pleasant and service was very good most of the time. We […] were a group of eight and were always easily accommodated at meals, etc. On the down side the nightly entertainment was mediocre and very repetitive, the wine and beer were inconsistent between bars and not good quality. Smoking was allowed everywhere, wifi access expensive (which I think should be free given how much we were already paying), the pools were small given the number of people, and birds flying around the eating area were gross. The special reservation restaurants were not very good at all; we all preferred the buffets. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Awesome all inclusive!!!"
We had a great time! The staff went out of their way to make us feel at home. We have stayed at the RIU Palace in Cabo and the experience was the same. Great!! Yes the beds are firm, and they only have spanish speaking TV, so no Gonzaga games (they pointed us to a great sports bar close), and only one beer on tap. The food was fantastic both at the […] buffet and the specialty restaurants. We would return anytime. We were there for 11 fantastic days. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great place to go."
We really enjoyed the first week of our vacation - the room was great and very clean and the servers were great. This was our second year at the Vallarta. But we will never go at Valentines Day again. The hotel was opened to the locals for the holiday and it become so crowded we could not enjoy our evenings. The buffet was so busy that the staff had […] a hard time keeping up with the food and the service so we had to wait or just go without the items we wanted. There were so many children running all over the place and more trash on the beach and glasses left all over the courtyard. It wasn't like that before all the people. The day we left, the elevators were full of the sand from the ash trays being dumped in them. Our vacation ended not on a happy note. We will return but we would recommend that you don't go over Valentines Day. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Excellent value for the money paid- but some flaws"
Overall the hotel property was very well maintained and clean. The beach area was absolutely fantastic, with the exception of no beach bar service on Saturdays. Durning the week waiters would offer and bring beverages to guests on the beach. We were told wait staff is off on Saturdays and we needed to get drinks from the pool bar that had only 2 bartenders […] and a ver long line during most of the day. Another ages that needs improvement is the food quality and quantity, of the mor popular items. The selection of items was definitely available, but it frequently looked like something that was previously served and had little flavor, with the exception of breakfast. Breakfast was excellent. Howerver at Lunch time there was a shortage of the items that most gravitated to, causing backup and grumbling among the guest. The nightly entertainment was excellent and very enjoyable. Overall I rated this hotel a 4 and would say that the property is an excellent value for the money paid. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

I guess, in the end, you get what you pay for. We chose this hotel because the rooms were not as expensive and we have stayed at a few RIU hotels in the past. We weren't too happy about this resort. We just returned from a 5 night stay and had a great relaxing time. All staff are very friendly and fun. We especially liked Maricio the bartender! Drinks were great, lots to choose from too. Food was also just fine, no complaints here. Many restaurants and a huge selection at the buffets. We were also happy with the free wifi availability in the lobby […] area. The beach is also perfect for sun and body surfing. One suggestion is that the hotel needs more staff at the reception desk during check in and out times. This was our second time to stay here and are planning a 3rd trip for a group of our friends for later this year...so yes, we'll definitely be back! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
This is one of the best hotel experiences in Puerto Vallarta. The Rui resorts are owned by a Spanish company that began on the island of Majorca off the coast of Spain. "Kid Friendly Family Approved!!"
Riu Vallarta was very safe and clean, and the staff was very nice and helpful . We were very pleased with food choices at the buffets at breakfast, lunch and dinner and the dinning rooms were all very nice and clean. We also enjoyed the reservation only restaurants available, excellent food! The beach was clean, always had penty of chairs available […] for everyone, the kids loved the body boards. Plenty of waves but not too big for little ones. Kids pool was great, a little deep for my 6 year old, (5ft deep) but with a floaty (available to buy in gift shop) all was great. The slides were also a lot of fun. Entertainment program is excellent as well. Lots of activites throughout the day. The evening entertainment was very good. Kids show everynight at 8pm, kids get to dance and play a couple of games. The main show starts at 9pm, they were all very entertaining and fun!! Would definetly go back! Hopefully next year!! "3 Riu's to choose"
the free bar stocked with liquor in the rooms is great and all inclusive buffet was top notch even beats Vegas. Rui Vallarta is just as good as the other 2 neighboring ones but less money. the hotel is large with 9 floors, but not for elderly because of the walking distance to food and beach. The pool was not heated, entertainment was good but didn't […] start till 9pm. You couldn't get anything to eat between 5-6:30pm. the Flamingo restaruant was the worst, couldn't eat the food, everything was tasteless and watered down soup and deserts gross. The main dining buffet was excellent w/ very good service & very clean & beautiful. beach was good easy to swim or take the kyaks out to see dolphins, stingrays.ect.. Drawbacks: the dark art deco lobby, stairs, long distance walking to get anywhere from your room. Most of the staff did not speak English but front desk very helpful. Don't expect to get any exchange rate on US $. $1 = 10 pecos. Taxi to airport $18 US. Little town with flee market was 1-2 mile walk or $8 taxi. Riu Palace wasn't anything special for the extra money just more service otherwise the same. You can go to the Jalisco next door free for breakfast &lunch- has a much better restaurant. I wouldn't go back because of the distance from PV town and ameneites. We stayed at the Villa Del Palmar for much cheaper all inclusive and close to everything with great service and very friendly staff everyone spoke English and had a different buffet with entertainment every night. "Eh - pick something closer to town..."
Our check in experience was lack luster. I always felt like I was bothering them asking a question and in general, I just didn't feel helped by the hotel staff. If you need anything, they'll point you to someone else. It was like following a choose your own adventure book. I really didn't like the attitude I received and the lack of initiative on their […] part. It was always someone else's job to help you. I've been to Mexico before and I've never had issues with service. As we started exploring PV, we got to meet amazing folks and genuinely caring people who wanted us to see the best they place had to offer. I didn't get any of that from the front desk staff at the Riu Vallarta. The exceptions were - one of the tour guides at the hotel, Valentina. She was extremely helpful and friendly and our bartenders at the main bar of the hotel. Otherwise, below par in general. You'll get sick of the food and although it looked good, it wasn't always that way. The lunch is not good at Flamingos and the best restaurant Sir George's served lamb chops that were half cut (and probably served to the better RIU Palace)! In general, we are not picky travelers but for the price we paid, we should've had better. Next time we stay downtown or at the Marina for sure! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great time, decent place"
Beautiful grounds and beach, Great staff. The food was average with the lunch being the worst. Entertainment was surprisingly lackluster for a Riu. Expect a lot of locals, particularly on weekends. "run down hotel"
we had a whistle in the toilet vent pipe where anytime someone above or below us used the toilet, sink or shower it created a piercing shrill whistle. Maintainence never touched it but said it was fixed. It was a great oceanview room on 8th floor and we were only there for 2 days so we put up with it...if I was staying longer or didnt have earplugs […] no way we would put up with it...you could hear it in the hallway outside and it went right through doors and walls, started up about 5:30 am when people woke up and continued sporadically until 1:30 am. Also floor under the tub was rotted and spongy feeling through the tub, was afraid of falling through to the next floor. They also were touching up the paint in the lobby area, with the wrong color...lol, now its two colors of ugly. Management clueless. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
