the free bar stocked with liquor in the rooms is great and all inclusive buffet was top notch even beats Vegas. Rui Vallarta is just as good as the other 2 neighboring ones but less money. the hotel is large with 9 floors, but not for elderly because of the walking distance to food and beach. The pool was not heated, entertainment was good but didn't […] start till 9pm. You couldn't get anything to eat between 5-6:30pm. the Flamingo restaruant was the worst, couldn't eat the food, everything was tasteless and watered down soup and deserts gross. The main dining buffet was excellent w/ very good service & very clean & beautiful. beach was good easy to swim or take the kyaks out to see dolphins, stingrays.ect.. Drawbacks: the dark art deco lobby, stairs, long distance walking to get anywhere from your room. Most of the staff did not speak English but front desk very helpful. Don't expect to get any exchange rate on US $. $1 = 10 pecos. Taxi to airport $18 US. Little town with flee market was 1-2 mile walk or $8 taxi. Riu Palace wasn't anything special for the extra money just more service otherwise the same. You can go to the Jalisco next door free for breakfast &lunch- has a much better restaurant. I wouldn't go back because of the distance from PV town and ameneites. We stayed at the Villa Del Palmar for much cheaper all inclusive and close to everything with great service and very friendly staff everyone spoke English and had a different buffet with entertainment every night. I've been to Mexico before and I've never had issues with service. As we started exploring PV, we got to meet amazing folks and genuinely caring people who wanted us to see the best they place had to offer. I didn't get any of that from the front desk staff at the Riu Vallarta. The exceptions were - one of the tour guides at the hotel, Valentina. She was extremely helpful and friendly and our bartenders at the main bar of the hotel. Otherwise, below par in general. You'll get sick of the food and although it looked good, it wasn't always that way. The lunch is not good at Flamingos and the best restaurant Sir George's served lamb chops that were half cut (and probably served to the better RIU Palace)! In general, we are not picky travelers but for the price we paid, we should've had better. Next time we stay downtown or at the Marina for sure! Read more

we had a whistle in the toilet vent pipe where anytime someone above or below us used the toilet, sink or shower it created a piercing shrill whistle. Maintainence never touched it but said it was fixed. It was a great oceanview room on 8th floor and we were only there for 2 days so we put up with it...if I was staying longer or didnt have earplugs […] no way we would put up with it...you could hear it in the hallway outside and it went right through doors and walls, started up about 5:30 am when people woke up and continued sporadically until 1:30 am. Also floor under the tub was rotted and spongy feeling through the tub, was afraid of falling through to the next floor. They also were touching up the paint in the lobby area, with the wrong color...lol, now its two colors of ugly. Management clueless. Read more

We absolutely love the Riu resorts! The Hotels are beautiful, well kept. The staff are all pretty much friendly and the food is outstanding! We were so pleased with our stay at the Riu Valarta that we joined the Riu club! Our only complaint may be that when the locals come in on the weekends, they have a little trouble keeping the food stocked in the […] buffets. Our suggestion for that is, if you want to go on an excursion outside of the Hotel, go anytime between Thursday and Sunday, By Sunday afternoon you will have the Hotel back to yourselves. If you don't plan on going anywhere, be sure to book a reservation at one of the specialty restuarants in the evening. We had no trouble with overcrowding in those and the food again was wonderful. The beds are rock hard! Terrible, could hardly sleep. The food was mostly buffet style and pretty bland and and dried out. The 3 "nice" restaurant choices within the hotel were just the buffet areas, dressed up, with people serving you the same sub standard food. Everything was cold or seemed well done. Good luck trying to get a fair price from these giys, because the prices change daily and they are always working a deal. And the phone system there is crazy, we had family trying to reach us but the 866 number the hotel gave us wasn't working. The pool was nice, about the only saving grace for the whole trip. If your going to the beach which is on their property, swim at your own risk, because there was no life guards any where. The Spa was a la carte and the prices were way higher than what they would be at home. The only thing included was the steam room and gym. The location was far from town and not easily accessible for walking. We would not recomend this hotel or area for travel. We don't plan on coming back. I loved the trip, and the stay, immensely!! It was absolutely wonderful. I would recommend not visiting in the months of July-Sept, but other than that, everything was wonderful. Things to note: -$35 cab ride from airport. -$20-30 cab ride to downtown (cheaper coming back, usually) -on the other side of the bay from most attractions, thus a 2 hour bus […] ride/1 hour cab ride. -if you plan to do tours, scuba, zip lining, stay in Puerto Vallarta, not Nuevo Vallarta. -plan on bringing $50 dollars in pesos to tip... not required, but kind. (Many make minimum wage of 65 pesos/day hoping for tips) Only complaint is with the hours of the bars, restaurants, pools, etc... Read more

Every single employee knows thier stuff and is more than willing to help if you have a question. Party hotel. Lots of noise. For an all inclusive BAD food. The only worth restaurant was Sir George. Drinks watered down terribly. Large nice resort BUT 45 minutes away from Downtown puerto Vallarta which costs 27 USD each way. A taxi has to be taken everywhere pretty much. Good option if you want to stay there and do nothing else.
