"Needs improvements to become an advisable hotel"
Rooms: Beds are relatively comfortable, the bathroom is clean and the size of the room is OK. However, the floors and the sheets are not clean and the rooms are noisy. You can simply hear other guests at the adjacent rooms or can hear people walking on the top floor. Breakfast: Its good that the hotel offers breakfast, but it needs to be more professional […] about their service. In the last day of our stay, they simply ran out of bread! Besides they also need to add more items to the menu. Location:The hotel is located very close to the city center, which is great. The problem is that there are two shelters in the same neighborhood (Tenderloin neighborhood, Ellis Street) which means the whole region is full of homeless people. Although this could be a major problem if you plan to walk to/from the hotel, the hotel provides a shuttle service (well organized and on-time) to major attractions (union square and fisherman's wharf) that makes the transportation a lot easier. Staff: The staff are friendly and helpful. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Paid too much in a poor location"
The hotel staff was very friendly and they directed which streets not to walk on when I checked in. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable but the heat did not work and they replaced it with space heaters. I booked this hotel bc of the breakfast available, however sandwich bread, meat, cheese, lettuce and tomato is not what I am looking for at […] 7am. The shuttle was not vey accommodating. "Interesting but bizarre"
Cova was both a pleasant surprise and a strange disappointment. The staff was wonderful and extremely happy and helpful. The room was great, but the lack of AC meant that you slept with your windows open and heard the noise of the tenderloin all night. In addition, I was surprised to have a hotel room without any dresser or drawers to put away clothes. […] I was there for a week adn it was very odd that the room had no such space. Equally bizarre was teh bathroom that had a nice and trendy sink but no place to put down your toiletries even though there was ample space to build such a counter in. The morning breakfast was delicious and the waffles were to die for and the roof top restaurant and conference area were equally good. So all in all a mixed bag, but wonderful people. "Clean rooms, excellent service, bad neighbourhood"
The rooms are clean and comfortable, the staff are friendly and the breakfast is satisfying. The only negative I could say about this hotel would be the neighbourhood. But the security is not a big problem in my opinion. During my 1 week stay I just used Geary Street instead of Ellis St. to and from Union square and I didn't returned to the hotel very […] late at night and everything worked out just fine. Hotel also provides free shuttles to the Union Sq. and Fisherman's Wharf so that you may not need to walk at all. Thinking about the expensive hotel prices just a couple of blocks away, Cova hotel is a very good deal in comparison. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Good value and pleasant stay..."
The staff was most friendly and helpful! Complimentary hotel shuttle was a plus. Euro-style breakfast was included and convenient. The rooms/beds were clean and comfortable, but room carpets were very stained. Although the surrounding conditions and people on the street were undesirable, this is common in San Fran...just don't take Ellis south of the […] Cova. Overall, we felt safe in the hotel. "Nice hotel to spend the day in"
I stayed in the hotel most of the time.Genuine Expedia guest review
Came here to celebrate our wedding anniversary and couldn't geta room with queen or king bed, so had to stay in one with 2 doubles...not convenient. Neighborhood is definitely not nice but didn't feel dangerous even with all the homeless people. Complimentary shuttle to Fisherman's was nice to have. Given the location, would not stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice hotel, modern"
I have stayed at the COVA several times and it is always an enjoyable experience. On site parking is a big plus in SF, as well as the nice buffet-style breakfast.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great hotel. Awful and scary neighborhood."
The hotel itself and its personnel were great. The only problem is that Cova hotel is located in Ellis street which reminded me of an episode of The Wire. Forget about walking at night around this location. At least the hotel offers a complementary shuttle.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Some girl friends and I went up for the Nike Marathon. It was 1 mile away from the starting line that much was true and what I was expecting. One of the rooms was not ready which was ok, we had 3 other rooms. We were unaware of the location being that we are from LA. We walked a block down into town to find it was infested with homeless, druged out […] people. We saw 2 arrest being made and a women so strung out on drugs that we were scared. We explained the situation to the front desk and all they had to say was our staff is trained to give you an alternate route. Our T.V. didn't work, our room's view was obstructed by a scaffold and the bath tub didn't drain. Very disgusting being that when it was time for the next girl to shower after running a marathon she had to stand in the previous girl's sweat and dirt. The front desk had a hard time locating a manager on both days that we were there. We never saw him or heard back from him. They did obtain my information to give to a manager when they could find him. We would have never stayed here if the clerk was upfront about the location when I asked. "Everything nice but location"
The hotel itself was very nice, staff were friendly and accommodating. The only big problem was the location. It is located in a not very safe neighborhood. The hotel did have shuttle service to Union Square and fisherman's wharf which was helpful.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice and clean hotel"
My boyfriend and I visited San Francisco for the first time and stayed at this hotel for 6 nights. We really enjoyed our time here. The hotel staff was very nice, the room was very clean and comfortable. The only suggestion I would have is to improve the breakfast, they don't have any eggs/bacon/sausage but for being included in the rate it's not bad, […] they had waffles, coffee, OJ, bread, lunch meats, and fruit. Overall though- great hotel! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"island of joy in a shady neighborhood"
The hotel was great. We stayed there for 3 nights and the rooms were clean and in a good condition. The staff was overall friendly and kind. There was a big roof terrace to hang out at night which was pretty awesome. The only issue waa the neighborhood. The tenderloin district (ellis street) is kind of shady and for visitors like us it was kind of intimidating. […] But no problem with a cab. A good choice! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Good last minute buy"
Great location for walking to main SF attractions. Not good area at night. Very accommodating shuttle by hotel. Great area for Vietnamese and Thai food.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Well appointed hotel with courteous and friendly staff. They have a free shuttle service drop off abd pick up to fisherman's wharf and union square. They are also happy to mind your luggage. Lots of great restaurants close by and staff are happy to make recommendations. I would not recommend walking in Ellis Street and more to Geary Street.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Good hotel in poor area of Downtown."
Good hotel in poor area of Downtown. Valet parking was great. Nice hotel with GYM.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Did the job for show at Civic Center"
We needed something close to the Civic Center, and it met that expectation. For us, we only really needed it as a crash pad. Tenderloin is a bit rough, but the road to the Center is around the corner and not as bad. I would be ok to stay here again. A mini fridge would be nice.Genuine Expedia guest review
The room was a bit small but for the non-refundable advanced rate it was mostly satisfactory.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Friendly staff and close to most main attraction"
The staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel was very clean and a good size. Very convenient because they offer shuttle service to most main tourist areas.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Won't stay again"
We spend 3 nights with our kids on SF, we brought our own car. Hotel is located in an old, ugly and bad-smelling neighborhood, surrounded by a lot of homeless shelters(some of the homeless were also mentally injured), forget about walking from/to Union Square at night. Valet parking staff was insufficient and not very friendly, they take too long every […] time we needed the car. Front desk staff was very friendly and provided some tips like the route to follow when walking to the Union Sqare to avoid unpleasant experience with homeless people, they offer complimentary transportation to main attractions . Room was clean, unfortunately located in the front of elevators, so very noisy. Complimentary breakfast was very limited also. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Great hotel in a bad area. Many homeless people sorroundong the hotel, but the staff tell you what streets to avoid. Nice gym with many options for workouts. Friendly staff. Definitely will come back!! Very safe hotel cannot get into it without key card, nor the elevator. Very accessible to everything without having to pay top dollar.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good Hotel near City Hall"
First off, if any of you are planning on staying here - There is one thing that they forgot to list on the website. NO A/C. There type of A/C was portable fans. Luckily they do have a large sliding door that you receive air from, but you better get used to hearing weirdoes talking outside and cars. The area wasn't that bad, enjoyed how close it was […] to where we were going. Staff was decent felt like some have tick on there shoulder. Very gay friendly. "Nice Room, Comfy Bed, Clean!"
We will come back & stay there again. The room was nice sized, clean, comfy bed & smelled fresh! The area we know to take a cab instead of walking when coming home late from the SF Giants game. No worries! We'll be back! (*.*)Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice hotel, poor location"
The staff of the hotel was very friendly and very helpful. The hotel itself has been very nicely updated and it is a great price, but the neighborhood isn't great. It isn't so bad that I was ever worried about our safety, but there are a lot of homeless people in the surrounding blocks.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good hotel, not great location"
Driving to the hotel I got nervous about the surroundings and the street it was on, but once pulling into the hotel my worries went away, we had someone waiting to park our car for us and check in was quick and easy. Our room was clean and nice, and we were close to a lot of places. The continental breakfast was good, waffles, hard boiled eggs, fruit, […] cereal, toast, and stuff to make sandwiches. I plan on coming back to this hotel next year. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We choose this hotel for the price and convenience to the downtown area. Our daughter was attending a 3 day college program in the area of Union Square and the COVA gave us a good price which included breakfast and internet while some of the other hotels in the Union Square area had smaller rooms and no breakfast or internet. The neighborhood is not […] great since there is a large homeless community there but they never approached us or panhandled like in some cities. The neighborhood is dirty as are a number of the neighborhoods in the city but the staff were excellent. They provided shuttle service that was timely and friendly. They were pleasant and seemed to enjoy working together and were helpful in recommending transportation services and restaurants and sights to see. The breakfast was fabulous with a nice spread of cereal, breads and bagels to toast, fruit, hard boiled eggs, luncheon meat, cheese, tomatoes and lettuce, juices, milk, coffee and teas. There were even waffle irons to make your own waffles with nice jams, honey, and butter etc to put on top. The breakfast staff also were efficient and friendly keeping the area clean and well stocked. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"A gem of a hotel in a not-so-great location"
Cova is absolutely awesome. The area is a bit seedy, but the hotel has safety measures and is an absolutely wonderful stay. I would stay there again on business.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Hello, how are you?"
I arrived late at night into a neighborhood that was a bit rough. I'm a tough cookie though and paid no attention to that aspect. Upon checking in I was sent to the wrong room with a room key and got to wake up some other guests. I think attention to detail is an item which gets lost from time to time. PeaceGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The breakfast was just ok. The worst thing was not so much the hotel but more the location. It was in a not so great part of town, kind of seedy. Also very very loud out on the street. I would not stay there again. The staff was nice though and there is decent shuttle service.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great hotel, terrible neighborhood"
The hotel was really nice with a very kind staff. The neighborhood was super sketchy, full of homeless people. There was a hobo in the parking lot when we came back one night asking for money. It isn't the best neighborhood but it is pretty close to the nicer parts of the city. We were able to avoid walking around the neighborhood thanks to the free […] shuttles that the hotel provides to union square and fisherman's wharf. We took a cab if we needed to get around outside of the shuttle times. There's also free breakfast 7-10AM with a very basic menu. Overall, a good stay for a good price. "Decent, comfortable and affordable SF stay"
The hotel is clean and well maintained with good sized and comfortable rooms. The staff is friendly. The complementary breakfast is limited but gets the job done. It's quite centrally located in downtown SF but the neighbourhood has a large number of homeless people, who in general are harmless. The enclosed courtyard, which is used for parking, creates […] a sense of keeping them at bay and the hotel itself does not suffer from their presence. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Ok. The hotel itself was pleasant, however the location is what is called - Tenderloin and little Saigon. Very much a low income - homeless and drug addicted neighborhood. It's a $10 cab to fishermans wharf and the Marina district. The hotel also has shuttles. However, please be advised!!!! Do not walk around at night if you don't want to be harassed […] by homeless and drug addicts. I'm from the Bronx NY and even I was shocked at times. That being said, the staff is very friendly and helpful. Would I stay again probably not - although for the price not a bad hotel. Try staying closer to Market st. Union square. Marina. Or fishermans wharf if you like boats and sea food. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"clean, overpriced and bad neigbborbood"
The pictures of the hotel online are very deceiving. It is pretty clean, but there were a lot of stains on the rug in the room. There was still masking tape in the bathroom from recent painting. "Great price and wonderful room and location"
This is a great find close to everything. I do not like the fact that parking is so expensive, but that is all of San Francisco for you. The fact that there IS parking was wonderful. I did not try the free breakfast since I was in a hurry to get to the airport, but that is nice of the hotel to offer that. I love the free wi-fi! For the most part, I […] stayed in the hotel to sleep. It's SF... what do you expect. If you don't need anything fancy and comfortable this is the place!!! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great value without sacrifice"
The hotel is clean, comfortable, and, while at the edge of the tenderloin, the location isn't bad if you're used to cities. I found it quieter than staying in Union Square. Has a nice, small fitness center that I never saw anyone else use. The beds are comfortable, if on the firm side. The rooms are incredibly spacious for San Francisco. But best of […] all, it's a screaming deal. I'll definitely be staying here again on my next trip to SF. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
The location is not good, too many homeless are there. If we can't take the suttle bus (full or too late), we have to walk to hotel in danger. But if you can take the suttle bus, you can save your timeGenuine Expedia guest review
I had a great time staying inthis hotel.the only downside is the neighborhood, but not violent people. Otherwise the hotel personnel is very helpful and accomodating. Special mention to mark and michael from the front desk and the people in the breakfast area. sufficient breakfast.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Pleasant surprise given negative comments related to location. Walked to Union Sq. every AM w/o problem. With the savings in room rates relative to nearby Union Sq. hotels, you can afford to cab back to the hotel after dark if you are concerned; heck, you cab multiple times every day - day or night - with the money you save and still come out ahead […] for a comparable hotel in a "better" location. I found the Cova to be clean and quiet with a very helpful and competent staff. However, contrary to rave reviews, the breakfast buffet (included in rates as is WI-FI) I found to be mediocre but acceptable. Yon can get breakfast nearby. Though no hotel restaurant or bar, nearby Vietnamese and Thai restaurants are excellent. So if you are on business near Union Sq. (e.g., JPMorgan conference) of just there on business for a day, excellent modern little hotel: this is a bargain. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
