"Bay to Breakers"
The staff were very accommodating. We got there at 10:30 and they checked out bags in with no problem. They gave us a map of the area and which places may not be the most pleasing. Always were able to answer questions. We got back late from the run and they were so nice about it. The restaurant was amazing. The parking attendants were pleasant. Although […] still comfortable, the rooms didn't look anything like the pictures and the view was of the scaffolding. I would defiantly think about staying here again. "Don't be fooled by pictures on web."
This hotel did NOT have Air Conditioning. We are living in the 20 century and NO AC! The pictures of this hotel on the web showed a nice modern décor but once you get there it is not as advertised. Buyer Beware!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice hotel and good customer service."
The hotel was pleasant and clean. The staff was helpful and enjoyed the complimentary breakfast. However, the location is in a very bad area. At night it is very unsafe with many homeless people and awful smell. I would recommend using the complimentary shuttle service or stay at a different hotel.Genuine Expedia guest review
The only bad thing about this hotel was the fact that we had to pay for parking with a third party. We spent around $60 for two nights, which isn't too awful but I was expecting to not have to pay anything. They did offer a complimentary shuttle service to Pier 39 however, which was very helpful and convenient. Love SF. Great stay, included continental breakfast which was nice. Very Euro in that way. The neighborhood is in bad shape but only blocks away from the rest. Would go back on a heartbeat.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Hotel close enough the Bay."
Hotel is nice, clean, and affordable. It's secure and it's a nice place to stay for a night or two. I enjoyed staying at this hotel. The breakfast was awesome and the service was fast.Genuine Expedia guest review
It was a nice hotel and the staff was great. The complimentary breakfast was good. The room was comfortable and clean. It's close to Union Square and all the shopping, but the area in between isn't the greatest. We took cabs to and from what we were doing so we didn't have to walk which added a little to money spent, but that was ok.. We enjoyed our […] stay there and would do it again. "Cozy hotel w/ horrible parking"
The hotel was very small in size but very clean. My biggest complaint would be their parking. The hotel does not have "hotel parking" for their guest. There is an outside vendor within the lot of the hotel where you can pay for parking (it's normal to pay in the city). My problem with that is even though you are a guest at the hotel you are not guarenteed […] a parking spot since people who are not staying with the hotel are able to use the lot. "Great hotel for price!"
Had a great stay at cova! I was able to check in early, which was a necessity for us! Friendly!!! Parking is reasonable for the city of San Francisco! Complimentary breakfast was decent, can't complain, it was free! Defintely would stay again!Genuine Expedia guest review
The terrace is worth the hotel loved going at night. Little things wrong with the hotel but good over all. There's no parking so you have to go to a garage downstairs It is in the ghetto but I drove so didn't have an issue with it. 24 bucks a night parkingGenuine Expedia guest review
"Google Tenderloin before booking. 2 stars at best."
I was not happy at all with this booking. I sent several emails and called Expedia about their rating system actually. This hotel is located in the Tenderloin district. If you have any intentions of walking about in the evening, don't book here. The staff are friendly but the hotel is - at best - 2 stars. The furniture is very IKEA-like, our bathtub […] drained extremely slowly, the sink (while updated) was cracked... but most of all, there is no A/C. You get an oscillating fan that didn't oscillate well. There is a shuttle to get you out of the neighborhood but have to book it, at least, a couple of hours in advance. If you want spontaneity then plan on getting cabs and MUNI when you can. Very disappointed with Expedia on this one. I even started polling the cabbies and locals about what they'd pay for a hotel in the area, I think the highest bidder was about $65. All were shocked about the $100+ power night that we were paying. Save yourself some headaches and grief by just paying the extra $50 or 60/night that you'll end up paying in cab/bus fare anyways. If you're coming to San Fran with a bunch of dudes then this might be fine because someone has someone else's back. But, if you're bringing your girl, spouse or worse family...bad idea. My wife had a hard time sleeping with all the bottle bashing, wino fights and the occasional screaming for help. Not good, lol! and you've been warned. We're from Detroit so we've seen rough spots. While not the roughest, don't pay +$65 Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Poor customer service"
I booked a double bed room at Cova hotel, SF thru hotels.com and reservation said we will have a city view room. "This room includes 2 double beds with premium bedding and a balcony with city views." When we checked in around 3:30pm. We got a room in 2nd floor. Later, we found out outside of the window is construction racks. We talked to front desk, […] they didn't have any other city view room available. I think the customer service guy intentionally gave us this room because we are Asian foreigners. Also there are only 3 shower towels. I called two times to front desk asking for 1 more towel due to 4 guests. But no response for over 30 minutes. I had to go down to front desk to ask for it. I don't recommend this hotel unless they can improve their customer service. Room and other facility are below expectation for this price. Parking fee is $27 for 24 hours. "Decent hotel in the city"
Staff was awesome. Free breakfast was good. Facilities were average but clean.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Decent, clean, but noisy"
The hotel had a nice appearance and was generally clean. What I would term a basic hotel. However, the place was terribly noisy - there was basically no soundproofing between my room and the next, so I could hear them as they played guitar and talked late into the night, and I especially got to enjoy listening to my neighbors tinkling in the bathroom […] (joy). As other reviewers have stated, there are quite a few homeless people around. I in no way thought them to be a safety issue (although I wouldn't want to stay here with kids), but the main issue was again with noise - in the rooms I could hear lots of outdoor activity, and between multiple nightly police sirens and ongoing exclamations at loud volume from the street inhabitants until quite late, don't plan to stay here without earplugs if you're at all a light sleeper because of noise. Overall, you might pick this place based on price. I wouldn't necessarily pick this place for any special amenities and would recommend against if noise is an issue. Also, the options for nearby eating were somewhat limited and are strongly biased toward Asian food (for good or ill - up to you). Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"San Francisco Vacation"
Our stay at the Cova Hotel was a very pleasant experience, the hotel is very much like a boutique hotel, nice, clean, great personalized service, the rooms were good size, clean with all the amenities, breakfast included and the staff very attentive and always ready to assist, specially Lorencito who took extra great care of us gave us excellent suggestions […] for dining and entertainment, made sure we had our transportation ready. The hotel itself was adequate, but walking to Union Square you have to pass some of the Tenderloins worst homeless areas. The hotel does have a shuttle, but I prefer to walk when I go into the city. Next time I will select a hotel closer to Union Square.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"BEAUTIFUL HOTEL, bad location!"
The Cova hotel is a GORGEOUS hotel, nicest I have ever been to! Unfortunately, that is not all the matters in this case... we were in a really bad area and were advised to taxi in and out of this area because it was not safe for tourists. Wonderful staff - professional and courteous. Room is exceptionally comfortable and attractive for a hotel at this price point. "Nice Quality & Service"
Hotel offers comfortable clean rooms with a modern flair...beautiful bathrooms with oversized towels and very comfortable beds and pillows. The continental breakfast was excellent. All staff were friendly and helpful. We loved the complimentary shuttle service to downtown spots. Valet parking was safe and convenient, and cost less than many other SF […] hotels. The area homeless shelter is nearby but the many homeless people we saw did not present any risk. Using the shuttle van or cab at night brought us safely back to the hotel without worrying about the locale. Don't let that keep you from enjoying this excellent hotel !! "OK hotel at a not very desirable location"
The hotel itself is ok. The room was clean enough and the staff was ok. But the location was not good. I did not feel comfortable walking around especially after dark.Genuine Expedia guest review
Hotel was only ok. The only ice machine was broken, and they had no back up method. We had a baby and 3 year old with us and could not keep our food for 7 month old daughter cold. "Great hotel in a bad neighborhood"
This is a clean and comfortable hotel with good amenities. It is also close to many locations of interest in downtown San Francisco. The only negative is regarding the neighborhood that it's in. "Do not book this hotel"
I had read all the reviews and stupidly chose to ignore them because the parking seemed like a great deal and it was cheap. The parking costs ended up being closer to $40 a night because our car was oversized (SUV) and we didnt know if we wanted it each day so we were charged more for in and out privileges. The staff ignored us the whole time we were […] there. The only friendly people seemed to be the cleaners. I even asked for recommendations for the city and got a gruff response each time. The complimentary breakfast is an absolute joke. You go into the restaurant and very moody waitress dumps a plate in front of you of pre-cut cheese and completely processed ham (looks like spam) and a 'salad' consisting of an old bit of tomato and some lettuce. Theres a tiny bowl of fruit, again cut up hours ago. A bread basket comes out that the pastries are obviously not fresh, have been heated, reheated and warmed again. They were so stale I couldn't eat it. Again, the waitresses are so rude you do not want to ask for ANYTHING. Its horrible. I cannot believe that this is what they provide. The location, whilst close to Union Square, is not ideal for families. We skipped Ellis street where the homeless camp out but its still not desirable. Look up the Tenderlion before you go - or not, just do not book this hotel. Pay another $20 per night and stay at a good one. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"A nice hotel in a fair location"
It seems that I checked in after their latest renovation. Overall, I like the cleanness and space of the 2 Queen beds room, as for in San Francisco. This room also comes with a fair large bathroom, that makes me happy, as I am a tall guy. The room rate with breakfast give you breakfast vouchers at a restaurant separate from the hotel, not continental […] style in the hotel lobby. Unfortunately, it is in a location between the good and the not so nice, which can degrade the experience. I did know this before I booked with the hotel. It is still at very reasonable distance to BART or Union Square, if you hate the street noise. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good location even if not the best"
Business trip. Short stay but nice location for easy access to Union Square and Chinese quarter area. A bit far from Fisherman's Wharf.Genuine Expedia guest review
This hotel is located in the Tenderloin District which is a very sketchy area. I took the BART from the airport to the hotel and had a bit of walking to do after we got off the stop. I felt really uneasy walking through the area but luckily we got to the hotel ok. I got to my hotel at 1030 pm to check in and was disappointed right away. I ALWAYS check […] my sheets when I get to my room and with good reasoning too. After checking the sheets in my room, I found a hair in my bed and asked to be moved to a new and CLEAN room. It took a while for the staff to relocate me and apparently the staff had looked into the next room to make sure everything was in order. After getting to my 2nd room, I found another hair in the bed. DISGUSTING! The staff reasoned with me saying that the hair must've been stuck in the sheets after being washed. I can only question whether or not they really did wash the sheets or clean any of the items in the room. Finally got to my third room and didn't find a hair in the bed but still felt disgusted from the previous rooms that I couldn't sleep under the sheets. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Needs improvements to become an advisable hotel"
Rooms: Beds are relatively comfortable, the bathroom is clean and the size of the room is OK. However, the floors and the sheets are not clean and the rooms are noisy. You can simply hear other guests at the adjacent rooms or can hear people walking on the top floor. Breakfast: Its good that the hotel offers breakfast, but it needs to be more professional […] about their service. In the last day of our stay, they simply ran out of bread! Besides they also need to add more items to the menu. Location:The hotel is located very close to the city center, which is great. The problem is that there are two shelters in the same neighborhood (Tenderloin neighborhood, Ellis Street) which means the whole region is full of homeless people. Although this could be a major problem if you plan to walk to/from the hotel, the hotel provides a shuttle service (well organized and on-time) to major attractions (union square and fisherman's wharf) that makes the transportation a lot easier. Staff: The staff are friendly and helpful. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Interesting but bizarre"
Cova was both a pleasant surprise and a strange disappointment. The staff was wonderful and extremely happy and helpful. The room was great, but the lack of AC meant that you slept with your windows open and heard the noise of the tenderloin all night. In addition, I was surprised to have a hotel room without any dresser or drawers to put away clothes. […] I was there for a week adn it was very odd that the room had no such space. Equally bizarre was teh bathroom that had a nice and trendy sink but no place to put down your toiletries even though there was ample space to build such a counter in. The morning breakfast was delicious and the waffles were to die for and the roof top restaurant and conference area were equally good. So all in all a mixed bag, but wonderful people. "Clean rooms, excellent service, bad neighbourhood"
The rooms are clean and comfortable, the staff are friendly and the breakfast is satisfying. The only negative I could say about this hotel would be the neighbourhood. The hotel itself and its personnel were great. The only problem is that Cova hotel is located in Ellis street which reminded me of an episode of The Wire. Forget about walking at night around this location. At least the hotel offers a complementary shuttle.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Some girl friends and I went up for the Nike Marathon. It was 1 mile away from the starting line that much was true and what I was expecting. One of the rooms was not ready which was ok, we had 3 other rooms. We were unaware of the location being that we are from LA. We walked a block down into town to find it was infested with homeless, druged out […] people. We saw 2 arrest being made and a women so strung out on drugs that we were scared. We explained the situation to the front desk and all they had to say was our staff is trained to give you an alternate route. Our T.V. didn't work, our room's view was obstructed by a scaffold and the bath tub didn't drain. Very disgusting being that when it was time for the next girl to shower after running a marathon she had to stand in the previous girl's sweat and dirt. The front desk had a hard time locating a manager on both days that we were there. We never saw him or heard back from him. They did obtain my information to give to a manager when they could find him. We would have never stayed here if the clerk was upfront about the location when I asked.
