I booked this hotel on a promotion (fourth night was free) and when the nightly rates were at their seasonal low. Even so the room rate was still costly even by Amsterdam standards. This added expense was worth it however. The minibar is wonderful and was replenished daily. The hotel services were quite distinguished, and appear to have improved greatly since the hotel originally opened. As others have noted, the beds are incredibly comfortable and the building is a classic structure.

I have stayed in nice hotels all over the United States, and when travelling overseas I do not expect the star rating to be comparable. A five-star hotel overseas has often been comparable to a three-star in the United States. That was very much not the case here. This is an excellent hotel with large, clean rooms, comfortable beds, big tubs and helpful staff. The complimentary mini bar is just that -- complimentary, and we had no problems getting ours refilled daily. Cleaning staff stopped by the room multiple times a day. The hotel is convenient to the Central Station and to the Red Light District. I could not have been happier with this hotel.

We didn't like the location of our original room, so we were moved to an another location within the hotel that was just perfect. The amenities are wonderful, the spa, steam room, pool and sauna added immensely to our stay. We ate at the resturant and the food was wonderful. We expected to pay more for our meal due to the fact we ate in the hotel, but it wasn't no more expensive than going to a really nice resturant and the service was excellent. The hotel is within walking distance from the train station and all the tourist attractions including the red light district, the resturants, Dam Square, the water tour boats, shopping, everything. We intend on returning to Amsterdam and we will definately stay at the Amrath again. We are thinking that we will make this hotel our special place when we visit Amsterdam again.

The staff could not do enough for you and really went that extra mile. The room was spacious, well decorated and had an awful lot of special touches. We have never stayed in a hotel that has been so quiet, you couldnt hear people in other rooms, or showers & baths running, it was like your own personal sanctuary. We stayed in a superior deluxe room with a canal-side view. It was pricier than the others, but worth great view of the sunset every night. The room was roomy and comfortable. The bathroom was large with a double sink and plenty of room to put our stuff on the counter. The free mini-bar was well used and the bed was comfortable - a great combination of firm and soft. The location was also great - a 10 minute walk from Central Station and walking distance to many, many restaurants, not to mention the unique experience of the red light district. A few minutes from this hotel it is easy to catch a canal boat that will take you to sites like the Anne Frank House or the Van Gogh museum. You can easily walk to the sites, too, because this hotel is centrally located. One word of warning - the city tax. Hotels.com makes it clear on its website that the hotel charges a city tax (about $15 USD) per night, but I missed it when I first made the reservation and was surprised to have to pay anything more when I checked out.

The subsequent fiasco meant I was disturbed twice when trying to take a nap before dinner. Then the room wasn't cleaned as promised. I was allocated a room in a rather noisy part of the hotel (rm 111), that combined with cleaners knocking on the door meant I didn't really get a peacefull rest. I left a day early despie having paid in advance. 25 Euro for breakfast is a little steep if you are a light eater. Free mini bar is a nice touch. If I stayed again, I would be sure to get a better (larger more quite) room.

This hotel is very nice and within walking distance of many Amsterdam attractions. It is a short walk from Central Station, which along with the train from the airport serves as the staging ground for most if not all the subway, tram, and bus lines. Within walking distance of the main drag and the Red Light District. When I first saw the location on the map I was worried we'd be isolated on an island, but that was far from the case. Our bellhop was great and even recommended to us to clean out the minibar each day as it gets restocked daily free of charge. Choice of coke, diet, orange juice, tonic, beer, wine, scotch, gin, vodka, cognac, and rum. You only pay if you call room service for something. Pool is lovely as it feels like you're swimming under stars. There are restaurants near by that are in the iAMsterdam book. Two words of warning: 1)We got lost trying to find the hotel. My guess is there is a similarly named hotel because two different people sent us in the wrong direction. (Our impression of the Dutch is that they wouldn't do that on purpose.) Once we hailed a cab (who's driver was very nice) we had no further problems finding our way back to the hotel. The cab driver even commented, "Oh, the hotel with the free minibar." 2) The each room's electrical circuitry has a master control that turns on when you put your room key in a slot by the door. This is great for remembering where your room key is, but if you want to charge anything while you are out of the room, stick a library card or something in the holder so you don't kill the room's electricity. When I go back to Amsterdam, I will stay here again. I did a lot of research for hotels the this time and see no reason to do that work again.

Got a very good deal through this website and had a fantastic stay. Gorgeous hotel, really unusual building in disctinctive Art Nouveau style, really convenient to train station. Lovely rooms - go for the city view as it's worth it looking out on the canal. Even our standard room had lovely high ceilings and a really nice bathroom, with very comfortable bed and millions of pillows. A bit of a walk to many of the main shopping streets (10-15 mins) but across canals and picturesque small streets. Endless clean towels (twice a day), lovely pool (a bit small but had an area where there was a current flowing against you if you wanted to swim a distance), jacuzzi, steam room, sauna, showers - these were all open 7am to very late and never felt crowded. Good value and quality bar food. We didn't have breakfast there, but lots of places nearby - the tourist office opposite the train station has a cafe on the bank of the canal and serves breakfast. I would highly recommend this hotel on all fronts.
