"Great location"
The Amrath is in a great location and walking distance to a lot of attractions and train station. The lobby is not inviting and is cramped. The hotel concierges were terrific in getting taxis, tickets or making day excursion and restaurant suggestions. The hotel breakfast was very expensive - usually included with room rates in other European cities. The hotel needs to spruce up the lobby, common areas and even the rooms (smell a little musty).

"Will definitely stay here again..."
This hotel is conveniently located to Amsterdam's Centrum Station, so it's easy to fly into Schipol and get to the hotel with a €5 train ticket (plus a reasonable walk with your rolling luggage). Very comfortable bed in a luxurious room. Hotel staff provided excellent service. Didn't have a chance to experience the hotel restaurant. Architecture of the hotel is really a slight to behold!

"Nice but weird"
Such a weird hotel. 1. Kinda out of the way for me 2. The hotel set - up is so weird (lobby, hallways etc.) 3. The beds were so hard. 4. The food was so overpriced ($6.00 for toast) but yet drinks in the mini bar were free!?). 5. Creepy elevators. The good about the hotel was the rooms are pretty nice for Euro standards. Nice and big. Def not 5 stars. Could be but they need to bring in someone with good taste. Its lacking class

"Close to Central Station"
Business trip with a couple extra days to sightsee in Amsterdam. Hotel is located about 0.25km from Central terminal station, from which one can take metro, tram, bus or train to almost any location around town or to next destination. About 0.5km from Red Light district, it was relatively close to several good eating areas either on foot or train/tram. Hotel itself is a quirky, boutique hotel set on a triangle piece of land. As a result, some of the rooms (the first one we were in) that was shaped and thus organized a little weird. Also, we were on top floor, so ceiling was built into window dormer which if you are into architectural variations, then you might like. The second room was a little more conventional. Hotel was clean, staff was friendly. Carpet a little worn. Overall a nice a stay, though area was only ok...probably some other areas that would be more interesting. If in town for only one day....this might be good point as close to Central Station.

"Very good hotel, good location. Service lacking."
We stayed here 4 nights. The hotel is just 5 minutes from the main train station. Our room was excellent with the windows overlooking a river. But the restaurant service was very confused. One day I was told they had no morning room service but when I went to the restaurant I was told they did have room service. There were two or three other oddities regarding the restaurant including slow service during one dinner. But the wait staff was very pleasant and the food was good. There is a spa and a work out room of which we took advantage.

"Lost rings were recovered, it really happened!"
My wife left her rings behind, actually she put them into a tissue and abusively this tissue ended into the garbage bin. We contacted the concierge name Jeffrey and he was providing one of the best service I have experienced a as a very high frequent traveler. Although the room was already cleaned for some hours, he traced all garbage bags and checked more than 15 bags one by one on content, not really an encouraging job ..guess what he recovered the rings and called in shortly after with not only the good news but also arranged FedEx shipment to our home address.He correctly understood the emotional value of the goods. Good hotels can be found in many places however an excellent concierge like Jeffrey is seen seldom. Thank you Jeffrey for the good service also on behalf of my wife!

The hotel was perfectly situated for sight-seeing and access to the rail station, but our room was on the quiet canal and a real oasis. We enjoying returning to nimble wi-fi, a rain shower head, and marshmallow fluffy beds. Best of all, from our raised sitting area, we had a spectacular rooftop panorama of the city.

"CLOSE TO CENTRAL STATION"
SELECTED HOTEL BASED ON REVIEWS. HOTEL IS BEAUTIFUL, HAS WONDERFUL HISTORY AND BEAUTIFUL ART DECO AMBIANCE AND ARCHITECTURE. HOWEVER, AFTER ARRIVING FROM NIGHT FLIGHT, WE WERE TOLD OUR ROOM WASN'T READY BUT FOR PRICE OF 40 EURO UPGRADE FROM DELUXE TO SUPERIOR ROOM, WE COULD CHECK IN TO LARGER ROOM IMMEDIATELY. LARGER ROOM WAS SMALL AND OVERLOOKED INNER HALLWAYS AND HEATERS FOR HOTEL AS WELL AS THE OTHER POOR, UNFORTUNATE GUESTS WHO GOT INNER ROOMS. WE TALKED TWICE TO HOTEL STAFF ABOUT OUR DISAPPOINTMENT IN THE SO-CALLED ROOM UPGRADE AND EACH TIME, THEY SAID THEY WOULD TALK TO A MANAGER, YET NO RESOLUTION CAME. WHILE TALKING TO HOTEL STAFF IN THE LITTLE OFFICE, THERE WERE ALSO OTHER UNHAPPY GUESTS TALKING WITH THE STAFF ABOUT ROOM ISSUES. THE CLINCHER CAME WHEN MY BROTHER CHECKED IN A DAY LATER AND WAS GIVEN THE DELUXE ROOM LIKE THE ONE WHICH WE ORIGINALLY ORDERED AND THE SIZE OF THE ROOM WAS UNBELIEVABLY LARGER COMPARED TO OURS. IT IS NOT A GOOD FEELING TO LEAVE A HOTEL FEELING AS IF YOU WERE TAKEN ADVANTAGE-OF, YET THAT IS HOW WE LEFT THE GRAND AMRATH: DISAPPOINTED.

"Lovely place and great location"
The hotel is a bit of a maze - upon check-in I was told that the elevators were behind the stairs, but they were actually quite difficult to find - behind the stairs to the right, past the bar, down a hallway... once I got to my floor I had to make about four turns before finding my room. The room was beautiful and had a free mini bar - now how often do you find that? Excellent location near the train station and lots of beautiful walks. Staff was very helpful telling me everything about the hotel amenities.

The concierge wa great, very responsive and polite. The room was very dark although the bed and shower were top notch. Service was slow to respond to one housekeeping issues. I received A hot stone message which was ok. Spa facilities very dark and not cozy. Kind of cold. Bath towels were thin and the floor mats ragged. Both restaurants were low food quality nd way overpriced.

"Excellent Hotel in Historic Building Near Station"
This hotel provided good value (at the Expedia price) in a large very comfortable room with a water view, helpful staff and a great location for those traveling by train. All services were available-- facilities include a very comfortable dining room and a swimming pool in the health club area. All this a very short walk from Central Station and convenient to trams. This was a very short first visit to Amsterdam and this hotel was a great base to see a lot of attractions.

"Hotel with Character"
I stayed in one of the wedge shaped room in this hotel with an unusual ayout consequent of having once been a maritime administration building. One wing lies along a canl, the other along Prins Henderick Street. Cheeckin was quick nad pleasant. Room service was rpomt and reasonable. Food at the restaurant was excellent. Does need warnings to look both ways before leaving to avoid collision with all the bicycles.

Decent location and accommodations. Sink drain went unrepaired for the entire week's stay, despite two notices to management. Room was not made up until early evening twice despite having been available for cleaning from 10:00 AM onward. Breakfast was WAY overpriced at 25 euro (17.50 if arranged the night before); we found a full buffet breakfast available at a nearby restaurant for under 10 euro per person.

Great location! Close to Central Station and the heart of tourist Amsterdam. Easy walking to great shopping, cafes, and the Red Light District. Central Station is a 5 minute walk. Loved it!

"Don't stay here if you want to be treated well"
In what was supposed to be a nice conclusion to our trip, we booked our last nights in Amsterdam at a "5 star" hotel. What a terrible decision! When we checked in, we were warmly greeted and since the room wasn't ready, the front desk held our luggage. But when we returned we were put in a room on the first floor facing the main road. That wasn't a problem until we found our air conditioning didn't work! Nor did the fan on the system. We tried to open the windows but only a small 1 ft wide window could open. So we called the front desk who came and told us that we just didn't know how to turn it on. After playing with the controls for a few minutes, the night manager said we were right and that it didn't work! He then said he would get it fixed the next day and brought us a small 8" fan for our room. That did NOTHING to help the temp. At no time did he offer to put us in a different room. After sweating through the night, we returned the next day to find that the air still did not come on. After calling the front desk again, a different night manager arrived to tell us there was nothing he could do and that we should have notified them during the day. After telling him that we had spoken with the previous night manager, he said that he would see if he could upgrade us to a different room but on his return, the hotel was (of course) full and we couldn't switch rooms. They offered free breakfast the next morning to make up for it. It didn't. Don't stay here! Not a 5 star stay!

"Old historical building"
The day we arrived; the safety deposit box, the A/C & the sink were all faulty. The staff immediately took action in upgrading our room, with no hesitation or hustle. Most of the staff extremely disciplined and well mannered. The manager "Jasper", F&B manager "Patrick", front desk Ms Simone, the bar manager "Jasper" as well as the others. Thank you all.

"Great location and awsome inclusive spa"
Hotel is great! It's walking distance from central station as well as other Main attractions like red light district, dam square and Anne frank museum. Loved the spa in hotel it was very clean and convenient when u want to relax after log day of walking around. Hotel staff is very nice and helpful. "Grand Old Hotel in a good location"
The hotel is within easy walking distance of Amsterdam Centraal train station. It is also close to river cruises, river cabs and other tourist-type activities/information. We were in a smaller room in the back of the hotel. Although it was not as large as the room the couple traveling with us had, it was away from the street and very quiet. We has a terrific night's sleep both nights. The bed was very comfortable. The only problem, that was corrected later that day, was the Nespresso coffee system died. It was replaced with a new one. Two lifts available from the main floor to the room levels. Only a few steps up from the sidewalk to the lobby. The staff (cleaning, repair, bellhop, concierge) were ALL very polite and helpful with each detail of the visit. The main restaurant was closed for renovation but the bar covered for it well.

They advertised a free mini bar yet I had to ask everyday to have it restocked and they did not refill fully. I also noticed the conseier chose who he attended to and I found him to be very racial against black guests. The other staff was nice though. The hotel was clean an located in a good place.

"Beautiful hotel"
The hotel is full of art.. leaded glass, beautiful old wood, marble. Beds were very comfortable, great shower. Loved the Espresso machine.. the free mini bar was fantastic.. 1st I've ever seen a free mini bar. Soft drinks, beer, water, candy bar, all free. Reception was extremely helpful, I couldnt find the business center and they came up and led me to it.. wish I could remember her name to give her credit.

"Very cool hotel - would stay here again."
I really enjoyed this hotel and would stay here again if I ever come back to Amsterdam. The building itself is very unique and interesting, the room was spacious and beautiful and had a great view, everything was perfectly clean, and the spa area downstairs was great for relaxing after hours of walking around all day. The staff was very friendly and helpful and there's a FREE mini bar in the hotel room. Highly recommend.

"Art Deco Paradise"
We have stayed repeatedly at the Amrath. Part of its appeal is the magnificent location, right by Amsterdam's main rail station, and all the tram routes. (And of course, from that station you can get easily to anywhere in Europe!). The hotel is also a miracle for anyone interested in modern architecture, an Art Deco paradise. Very comfortable, good service. Looking forward to our next visit.

"Grand Budapest Hotel: The Amsterdam Outpost"
This is a dark, gloomy hotel, and could have been the set for the movie, The Grand Budapest Hotel. I arrived on Thursday night. No one met me at the curb for my bags. The reception area was dark, with four clerks behind old-fashioned desks. The dining room at 9:30 was empty: my meal, though, was decent. The bar downstairs was odd, dark, and uninviting. The gym was small, cramped, and about what you'd expect in 1978. It was confusing to find my room: the layout of the floors was a labyrinth. The good news: I found a large, attractive room, with floor sized windows and plenty of comfort. Overall, the effect was depressing--precisely the opposite of what I expect in a hotel which advertises itself as five stars.

"A real 5 star hotel next to AMS Centraal Station!"
We got lucky with this hotel in June. A real 5 star hotel, traditional building, nice rooms, all amenities, etc. We asked for a room on the last floor and got it. Tall sealing, great views, quiet. The pool, sauna, Turkish bath, Jacuzzi, gym (a bit small)... 4 minutes walk to Central station and to Amsterdam center area.

"Unique historical hotel made the stay great."
Unique historical hotel made the stay great and was close to everything. Only negative was room had an odor to it and it took twice to complain about it till someone come up and sprayed deodorizer. Helped a little. We believe someone cooked in there before us.

"Great location, close to everything"
With central station just a few minutes walk away, its easy to get anywhere via the metro or train. The concierge was helpful in recommending places to visit and they provided maps of the town. The room itself was very spacious compared to many hotels throughout Europe, with high ceilings and a large bathroom. The blackout shades are very effective at blocking out any sunlight for those mornings you want to sleep in. The steam room and sauna is well kept and open until 11pm each night. Last but not least, anything with a complimentary minibar restocked daily gets my vote for hotel of the year.

"Older Upscale Hotel"
The Amrath is an old hotel that has been refurbished and has large luxurious hotel rooms with lots of amenities. I especially liked the room's comfortable bed, free mini-bar and the wireless remote for closing the many large drapes in the room. I say 'large' because the windows are floor to ceiling and the ceiling is about 12 feet high. Our room had one of the nicest bathrooms I have seen in any hotel with a soaking tub and and a rainfall shower head. Service was excellent and the staff are customer focused.
