Worth the drive (and you DO need a car!), the Schoene Aussicht gives the feeling of staying in the country, but is 10 min. from town. Great breakfast , staff very helpful , beautiful view , "room" was really a small suite which was a nice surprise . We had a car - never got to experience the hill climb ! Bus route ends at bottom of hill so always one waiting there to go to downtown area. Very well kept up . Highly recommend.

WE LIKED the view of Salzburg from our bedroom window high in the hill. We had no difficulty with the narrow and steep road up the hill to this hotel. We enjoyed the dinner immensely; however, they did not serve dinner 2 of the 3 nights we were there. We also liked FREE PARKING.

We stayed 3 nights. We were assigned a fantastic 2 room suite, with large balcony overlooking the city. It doesn't get any better! Travel to the city is particularly convenient, using your car to drive to the bus stop where parking is free. Buses run about every 15 minutes.

Room was in bad condition with tiles peeling from the floor. They agreed to move us to a second room (for an extra 25 Euro for a larger room) where the shower was clogged. Asked for an extra bed (for a 25 Euro fee). After an hour and a half it still wasn't there so we gave up. Nice views though (from the restaurant - not the room).

We enjoyed our stay. The staff was helpful and pleasant. The breakfast was good with a good selection. The restaurant was not open so the manager suggested a local cafe that was close. We really enjoyed our meal there. It was a good stay and we would return there if we return to Austria.

There was a vast breakfast spread (included in the room cost) in the morning for all guests. The only thing that could possibly be considered as "negative" is that the hotel is a bit outside the city- just a short 10 min taxi ride. But the front desk will call you a taxi and it will be there in 5 mins. Super easy. The views and amazing mountain air are definitely worth the cab ride in my opinion though! We had a horrible experience from this hotel. The hotel was located at the top of mountain, and the only entering path was extremely narrow which only one car could barely go through. We stayed here for 3 nights to visit the sights of Salsburg. The hotel is located on a big hill with views across Salsburg. You can not see the castle in town because of a hill, but you can see the rest and the view across to the mountains in the distance as well. Make sure if you stay here you get a drink and watch the sun set. We had a car and drove […] to town daily and parked our car there for 10 or so Euros, secure underground parking in the city centre next to the sound of music gardens. This was better than tackling the hill and using public transport and gave us flexibility. The hotel was old, but comfortable for us. Also the honesty bar fridge was great to grab a beer and a snack at any time, fill in a slip and pay when you check out. Internet was fine, and a minimal cost for the 3 nights we were there. My 2 complaints were that the restaurant on site was closed Tuesday and Wednesday night for dinner. The other was on our last night we had a very loud american businesman next door who insisted on calling back home until 1am in the morning and basically shouting down the phone. We knocked on the wall and he didnt seem to care. So the walls may be a little thin, but 2 of the 3 nights we did not hear a thing. A great spot with a good breakfast, we would stay here again for sure. Read more

Views from the hotel overlooking Salzburg were truly beautiful, especially with all the lights at night. The only item of note is that you must have a car to reach the hotel. Luckily for us, we had a car with a GPS, so our trip to the hotel was very easy and painless. After leaving the hotel grounds, the staff advised us where to reach secure on-street parking so we could use the public transit system. This worked very well and we used this without any problems. Speaking of problems, if you do not arrive at the hotel at a reasonable time (approx 10 PM), there is no one available at the front desk and the hotel is locked and secure. We arrived early in the day and were able to secure our room key so we did not encounter any problems when we returned late at night after enjoying ourselves during the evening in Salzburg.
