"Slumming in VT"
I was extremely disappointed that the room wasn't clean and beds were unmade..When I complained they gave me another room which didn't even have soap or towels. The desk staff wasn't on site the next morning to speak to and I had to call numerous times to explain the situation. No apology was made and nothing was done to rectify the situation. I felt […] ripped off having paid for accomodations that were no better than sleeping in my car. Who wants to stay in a hotel where they don't care about the guest experience? Every paying customer should have a clean room and basic things like soap and towels. I would not recommend you waste your money staying at this overpriced hotel when there are so many others that care about providing a good customer experience. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Needs major upgrade out of the dumps"
The photos online where deceiving to say the least. I would guess the main building was much nicer than the building we stayed in, behind the main one. The room was a dump. Stains on the couch, dirt on the bathroom door, sink was rusty, tub tile was moldy, the whole room had a musty smell, very old mattresses which caved into the middle, wood paneling […] felt cheap and buckled a bit, here was no way I would lay on the floor to stretch in the morning. For the price we paid for one night I was appalled!!!!!! I probably should have asked for a room change. I will never go here again and would NOT recommend it at all. Checked in at 4pm and had to wait because the handy man had my key to the room. Thought I was going to have a room in the main building and it ended up In the back building that was cold and run down. Stayed two nights and the they did not service the room. The continental breakfast was limited for such a nice looking restaurantGenuine Expedia guest review
"Beware of the advertising!"
From the photos on the website I was expecting a wonderful inn with lots of history. We had reserved two rooms but unfortunately the rooms we were given at first were terribly below standard. We were given rooms in a motel-like building. The rooms smelled musty, the blankets had holes and the wall of windows had only thin panel curtains with one window […] totally lacking any kind of curtain. I talked to the front desk who did give us another room in the same bldg. but said I would have to pay much more to get a room in the main inn. The next morning we looked for the "included" breakfast and found that it was a plate of muffins sitting on a table at the entry of the closed restaurant. That day the staff did arrange to move both families into the main inn for our last night where the accommodations were much closer to my expectations. I can't say enough about how courteous the staff were but I do feel obligated to warn others about the facility itself. Check to see where your room will be located. There are such extremes at this establishment. I so looked forward to this place and was so very disappointed. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
The main inn and public rooms are charming, as well as the porch. The dining room has a beautiful bar and is very pleasant. The food room was delicious however the menu was limited. The morning cold breakfast was fine, however, the hot breakfast items limited and not worth paying extra. The waitstaff was very friendly. Our room was in the annex and […] we were greatly disappointed as there was mold in the bathroom, furnishings and decor not inviting, and the exterior was in need of a major overhaul. Having stayed at numerous New England Inns, this has the potential to be a great place, however, upgrades to the rooms needed. Disappointed with accomodations. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Stayed in a room in the carriage house. There was mold on the bathroom ceiling, the room was very dark, and the room smelt like chlorine. Over priced for what it was.Genuine Expedia guest review
We enjoyed the location and the breakfast was great! The staff was friendly. We did not stay in the main building, but in a building behind it. It was pretty clean, but had a very musty smell that was unpleasant. The room itself had plenty of space though.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nostalgic inn - Loved the place"
Staff was extremely friendly, affordable and was a good value. Located centrally to everything in the area and very easy to get to. I've stayed here on a few seperate occasions and I really like the placeGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Beautiful old Inn! Close to everything!"
The room itself was nothing special, but the location and the old Inn itself was exceptional! Would stay there again. Worth the money.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We arrived late afternoon and were given a room in the Carriage House behind the main inn. The room was large smelled extremely musty, had one alarm clock that didn't work, and no tissues. The air conditioning unit was very loud, and even after running it for several hours the musty smell did not go away. The beds were horribly uncomfortable. I was […] in a double bed that sloped down(meaning my feet were significantly lower than my head)so I slept sideways in the bed. While I was showering I noticed that tiles in the shower were coming loose from the wall, the bathtub was stained, and there was mold growing on the shower walls ceiling. After speaking with someone at the front desk about the "disgusting" conditions of the room, he offered us a new room, also in the Carriage House. It only had one bed, but at this point my friend and I did not care about having to share a bed. The room was cleaner & had a kitchen with a refrigerator, but the bed sheets and towels were stained, and the toilet was dirty. It also did not flush properly. There were three light bulbs in the bathroom - one was burned out. We were told that our stay included a continental breakfast. When we went to eat all that was there was a tray of small muffins (2 bites) and coffee, so we ate elsewhere. The restaurant was not open at all during our stay. Fortunately we only booked two nights at this hotel. We would never stay here again or recommend this place to anyone based on the conditions we experienced. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Run down over priced"
I was so disappointed when I opened the door to the room. I was travelling with my husband and three children and expecting a nice clean updated room that we could relax in after a long car ride. I was disgusted when I went to use the bathroom and the paint on the ceiling was peeling and there was pubic hair on top of the heater next to the toilet as […] well as stuck to the wall. I booked the room for a two night stay and we left early at 8:30 am and checked out a day early. Never would I recommend this hotel and quite frankly Expedia should not promote it. Stay in a hotel was fine, they let us check in half an hour earlier, nice. Breakfast not so much. In spite of information that it served 7.30-10 nobody was in the dining room or in the kitchen. "Want to feel at home?"
At first I was worried when I arrived to find no one at the front desk. There was an after hours phone # which I called and was given the code to the front door by a very pleasant person who instructed me where to find my room key with a map of the property to easily locate my room. This was a great room for the price, very comfortable bed which was […] hygienically lined. In the morning I had a very pleasant conversation with the morning staff over a nice cup of coffee. The dining area is very nice and I regret not being able to stay for a proper meal, but I was there on business. I would stay there again. Great hotel, especially for the price and very nice staff. Two thumbs up! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
We stayed in the back/motel section of the Inn. The room smelled musty, was dark, and needed attention. The Inn itself seemed to be minimally staffed. "Renovation needed desperately"
I understand and appreciate that this is a historic property and needs to maintain the New England charm, but things should be in good working order; which was not the case in our room. We had: lights and light switches that did not work and a/c unit that sounded like a jet taking off everytime it kicked on, no toilet paper and only 1 set of towels, […] etc. The one person who staffed the desk was very nice and did his best to help out. I think the main issue was a lack of staffing for the entire Inn. Almost all of the lights on the 1st floor of the Inn were not lit. My best guess is that they are having financial issues and need new ownership. We expected a lot more for $335 an night. I would avoid this Inn completely if you can not get a room in the Main building. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"So much missed opportunity!"
This hotel is cozy and quaint, not to mention has a great location (right off picturesque Main Street, just on Mountain Road). Many rooms are updated, there is a wonderful wrap-around front porch and the staff is so friendly. Which is why we keep going back, when clearly there are better places to stay in Stowe. That said, we went on a busy July Fourth […] weekend. The town parade goes right by this hotel. There was no "porch party" planned. Heck, we couldn't even get a beer there until 5pm! Not to mention, they ran out of white wine in the bar/restaurant on a busy weekend (?). This hotel has the potential to be everything one would expect of cozy Vermont Inn, which we conveyed to the staff. We were told the owner lives in California, rarely visits, and has no interest in promoting the hotel and holding events. We want this hotel to succeed for sentimental reasons, it is too bad the owners don't care. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Basically an old fashioned motor inn from the 50's"
Inn is on historic register and is quite old, our room was in the side building. No lights on porch at night, electricity was added on later using pipes, very old TV, sparse outlets in room, musty odor, no scoop in the sole ice machine. Surprised that attached restaurant did not serve pancakes as I was hoping for an old fashioned Vermont breakfast with […] maple syrup. Chain hotels have better breakfast buffet. Still use old metal keys with plastic tags which staff was hesitant to give two of for spouse and myself. We arrived late at night, prepaid on hotels.com but still had to fill out lot of info and didn't get a room until they had paid themselves from the hotel.com system. Room wasn't dirty, awful, or unsafe, but clearly 2 grades below a Hampton/Best Western/Holiday Inn Express. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"If the rate seems too good to be true, it is...."
During my one night stay, I spent my waking moments writing this review in my head. I was taught that if you can't say something nice, don’t say anything at all. However, I rely on reviews, so I need to be honest here. In the past, I had seen this inn on the curve into Stowe and thought how grand it must be. I was lured by the lower price. On our arrival, […] the pleasant desk personnel changed our room, in the budget motel annex, because the first one was not clean yet at 5pm.We found our room to be an adequate, but tired facility. When it was time to sleep, my friend found that her bed linen was not clean. It was rumply and had black ?makeup marks. The blanket was threadbare and torn. There was NO night attendant to provide new linens. We found an emergency call number on the inn door. The helpful, but off-site, service person called the "on-call" person who told her that she was really on-call, but to move to or get clean sheets off the bed in a neighboring room. OK. Those linens had not yet been changed either. We called the service again. We were assigned a room in the cavernous, empty main inn. We found it and simply took the sheets off that bed and made up my friend's bed in our original room. Continental breakfast had very good Green Mountain coffee. I own a cottage business, so I know that some bursts of personal effort and a sharp intuition for guests needs could make this place so much better. Owner needs to give this great location some needed attention. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Skip the Restaurant"
The Hotel was nice - comfortable in a cozy kind of way. No modern conveniences like coffee in the room :-). Skip the Restaurant though - the "bar" only served wine and beer as all the liquor was locked up becasue the bartender wasn't qualified to serve. Dinner was way overpriced for the fare and they charged $15 per glass of average wine. The "breakfast" […] was equally as uninspired the following morning. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"If you want a rustic inn, this is it"
The Stowe Inn is old-fashioned and rustic. Only a few minutes' walk to town, it provides a great view of local scenery. I was there for 1 night, and the staff was friendly and helpful. My room had a balcony that provided a great view of mountains. Furniture is worn-looking, and the alarm clock didn't work properly. When I checked in, the clerk said […] that a continental breakfast including juice and muffins would be served. I came early for breakfast to find the only thing offered was lukewarm coffee. A staff member apologized and brought more coffee which also was lukewarm, but there was nothing else to be found. I found it unusual that the breakfast area (which is nicely furnished) was almost completely dark. There is a wide hallway, parlor and dining area near the front desk, and the breakfast area is here as well, yet there were no lights on except for those over the desk. The wifi, which I was given access to as a guest, had a poor connection and only worked for a few minutes out of the whole time I was there. I asked a staff member about it , and he apologized and said they had called the local provider and it was due to be fixed very soon. Another guest commented that she had been unable to get a connection to it as well. This apparently isn't normal, and the staff member was aware of it and apologetic. Rates are fair, the inn is nicely decorated inside and out (I saw a well-kept swimming pool), and the staff is friendly and responsive. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Oh my! Historic site with little to no service."
I was not pleased with the stay at all. A very historic hotel in desperate need of an upgrade all around. Breakfast was louse at best from the food quality to the lack of utensils. Only one person (I felt sorry for him) running the whole service... and it was the same guy the night before at the reception desk. I definitely would not stay here again. "Stowe Inn, vermont"
The restaurant was only open on weekends at 5pm to 9pm. Breakfast was continental and the Inn was not prepared for thier guests, ran out of coffee and food. Staff was complaining loudly that they are not going to give the manager any money to go out and buy food. Staff informed us the owner of The Stowe Inn lives in California and will not allow The […] Manager an account for the nessecities for the Inn and The Manager takes money out of his own pocket and often does not get reimbursed. overall a good experience. Hotel is 'rustic' as many are in the area. Service is friendly. Pool looked clean but we didn't use because it was a little cool during our stay. amenities like bath supplies were thin, so make sure to bring your own. bathrooms could use basic structures like hooks or shelves so everyones toiletry bag doesnt have to cram on […] the toilet tank. "Hotel of a different era."
This is an older hotel in a beautiful setting which was undoubtedly a grand hotel in its time. Although very comfortable--and with a very helpful staff--both the level of service (no-one at the desk at night)--and the furnishings in the public areas are reflective of a different era. My daughter and I had a wonderful 3 night stay. The staff was wonderful and the room was charming. We also ate in the restaurant which was also wonderful. Overall a great experience.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We decided on the "economy" rate since we were here for 4 nights. Little did we know, economy equates to a room only a homeless person would consider luxury. There was no air conditioning; we were provided with a filthy box fan. They never cleaned the room or bathroom while we were there; there were "things" from previous guest(s), (although they made […] the beds each day). After the 1st night, soap and shampoo were not provided, and towels were not provided for the last night. The analog TV had such a small screen one could not see from the bed. The room looked like a 1970s low-end budget hotel although we paid over $100 per night. The building where our room was situated was set back from the main road - the site at the building was not pleasant with pocketed driveway and a very low-end appearance. It appears the better quality rooms are at the main building where you register; we finally had a decent breakfast on the day of our departure at the main building. They rated this facility at 3.5 stars but apparently neglected to rate the "economy" units. I rate it 1 star only because it was shelter. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Get a Queen, not a Double"
This one is kind of odd. I stayed here twice (once booked with Hotels.com when I got a queen, once not). The first time, I got a queen room (in the main hotel), the second two doubles (in the adjoining structure). And it was night and day. Most of the outlets in the double didn't work (one actually sparked trying to unplug it), and you could clearly […] here the outside. But the queen in the hotel was gorgeous and it felt like I was in a B&B. Most of my ratings are in the middle because things were so very different. In both cases, the WiFi was great (a connection issue was fixed in under two minutes with a call to the front desk), and breakfast was fine (they charge on the weekends for a more substantial one, but the continental breakfast worked for me). Staff is very friendly and helpful. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Older Vermont inn. Well located in Stowe."
This is an older Vermont inn with a nice, lived-in feel. Our room was a real throw-back in terms of style but it was very clean. The beds were very comfortable. "The price was right"
Was placed in one of the out buildings and not in the original inn. A bit old and outdated, no hotel toiletries, no in room coffee, dark room, no desk. Also no coffee or continental breakfast available by 7:30am. Probably related to off season, but not impressive.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Historic Vermont luxury, tastefully done"
First of all, this is an OLD inn - on the national registry of historic places. The guest rooms are thus not the large, ultra-spacious suites you'd see at a Hilton, but the off season rates and old country charm are part of what makes the place unique. There are more luxurious accommodations in Stowe, but none speak old-world charm and service of this […] ancient but clean and servicable hotel. The rooms are spread out like 2 story apartments with steps. There is a section called the 'carriage house' because it used to be a row of garages made into rooms decades ago. While the walls and ceiling are old, the rooms are clean, functional and generously sized. We had 2 armchairs where we could sit side by side and look out on the leafy scenery. There is a pool (non-heated) and very good restaurant on site that serves a good steak. The staff was uber-friendly and professional, and despite the off-season the place was fairly full. People who aren't clean freaks and hyper-obsessed luxury addicts should have a good time while appreciating the historic beauty so typical of upstate Vermont. I'd stay here again, and the rates were among the cheapest I could find in VT. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
