Grand Hotel Baia Verde - Catania area

We wonder if this hotel is better in season. When we arrived in the late morning, the man at the front desk insisted that we wait until the 2 PM check in time for our room. They have lovely public spaces, which we found out later. Upon check in, our room stunk of smoke so we requested another. Then we learned that they were only about 5 percent occupied, […] so why keep us waiting? Rooms adequate, breakfast okay, the hotel restaurant barely acceptable. They did run out of just about everything, like coffee, at breakfast,so go early.. The setting is lovely by the sea, but the town location is pretty horrible. The pool was inexplicably roped off, and there was construction which made for a very long walk and two elevator rides to get to the rooms. Bafflingly bad when it could have easily been good. This hotel is a beautiful location by the water and appeared to have a crowd at the pool each day, but it was pretty shabby in places. The hotel staff was not as attentive as I thoiught they should be.

We struggled to find the place for a bit by car as tuck away in a small side street that our sat nav was ignoring and we had to find on foot. Once there we were initially surprised to see it is actually a residential block of flats. However, once in we felt very welcome by the owners/staff who helped us with all the practical info about parking, discovering […] the town and also touring the nearby attraction - the valley of the temples. The room was clean and very practical. It was very quiet and there was nothing more we needed. Breakfast was served with a smile and in a very friendly manner in contrast with all the other hotels we stayed in Sicily. The owner asked us whether we prefer to have savory breakfast as the usual breakfast whereever in Sicily is sweet pastry and cakes - we thought that was a nice touch aknowledging he cares about pleasing the customers. The only downside is the easy to take your luggage in the hotel if you have some mobility issues. The entrance is up on a steep small street and parking (if adhering to the rules) is not possible at the entrance. So travel light :) Otherwise, overall a pleasant stay! Read more

We stayed in the hotel for 4 nights(2 rooms, 4 people) from 25th thru 29th of August 2012 and were very satisfied with the hotel, location and very well kept general areas. The pool is great with sunshades and sun tanning beds always available, the private beach (volcanic rock- no sand) was great too. The staff was very polite and available. A wonderful location beside the sea. We appreciated the helpful staff and the comfortable room with a balcony. There was an excellent choice at breakfast and we were satisified with the snacks served in the pool bar. We enjoyed some of the restaurant food in the evenings. It helps to discuss the menu with the waiter to make the right choice since the […] meals tend to be traditional in nature. I made use of the gym which was adequate and we were happy with the sunbeds/parasols. The swimming pool has a shallow part for children and is deep enough for diving. Some liked to swim in the sea. There was music for teenagers one evening. The hotel air conditioning helped us with the mid July temperatures. Overall a great place to relax and work on your sun tan. Here in mid June and the hotel very busy with mostly Italian guests. All of the staff were consistently pleasant,very helpful and polite and contributed to a great stay in a beautifully situated and appointed hotel. Most of the staff in this hotel do not speak good english and this can be a problem. the sea is dirty, the breakfast choice extremely poor especially if you're staying for a week and also they try to rip off foreigners. I booked a no of treatments in the spa and I was charged higher prices to those i was given through the spa's treatment list transalted […] in english. They used all sort of excuses and at the end refunded one of the tratments. However, it looks like they try to take advantage of the foreigners. The hotel is of an excellent standard, but is located far put of town and is not the place if you are aiming to spend time in Catania or be within easy reach of the bus or train station. However, if you are looking for a place to just relax by the pool, this is it.

Die Lage des Hotels ist perfekt um einen Urlaub auf Sizilien zu starten, da das Hotel nah vom Flughafen ist, direkt am Meer und in ruhiger Umgebung. Das Abendessen war mittelmässig, däfür das Frühstück perfekt auf der Terarsse. Das Preis/Leistungsverhältniss stimmt auch.

Wir hatten ein superior Zimmer gebucht. Als wir ankamen, wies man uns aber ein normales Doppelzimmer im Erdgeschoss zu, ohne Meerblick und sehr düster gelegen. Una posizione incantevole, arroccato sulla scogliera e con comode terrazze solarium con discese a mare. Se potete, optate per camera vista mare, sono meravigliose.
