"Beautiful Garden and Room"

I stayed at this hotel exactly ten years ago in 2004 and came back last Saturday for the 10th anniversary celebration banquet. The garden looked charming and beautiful, especially after the showers through out the day - mainly green with very few flowers. My room was well designed but could be better equipped or maintained. For example, either the remote control or the TV set itself failed to change channels, so I missed the two World Cup games that night (or following morning). The rain shower also failed to work and I had to rely on the hand shower only. The mosquito repellent lights inside my room and in the corridor outside my room were assuring (or the other way round?). For a state owned/managed hotel, air conditioning was unexpectedly good. Its bed was hard - with a thin mattress on possibly wooden panel. The celebration banquet at its super large private function room was excellent in decor, food, and services. And at reasonable cost, too.

The Yangzhou State Guesthouse is a typical Chinese, but pretty nice hotel in Yangzhou. It's in the centre of a nice park close to many sightseeing spots, the city centre and many restaurants. The breakfast is not outstanding, but OK and even with some European dishes (toast, freight eggs, marmalade), the lunch and dinner is really good and recommendable (local kitchen, most dishes a little sweet). The rooms are in good shape and fully OK. Some rooms are newer and more modern, but at the moment close to a construction side. Too noise and not recommendable. Take the ones to the centre park. Some of the employees speak pretty well English, so no problem to get everything managed.

The reviews talked about how good the hotel is. I stayed at the State Guest Hotel in Zhangjiajie. Sheets were crisp and white, very clean toilets and the common areas (except the basement, I suspect it's rented to private contractors) are well managed. The problem I faced was at breakfast. The supply of bread was inconsistent and I have to wait quite long before its even replenished. Also, forks weren't available, only chopsticks and chinese soup spoon....
"Guesthouse? Top class hotel more like it"

We stayed at the State Guesthouse for a whole week. It is wonderfully situated at a quiet end of town, amongst parkland and on the slender lake. It is near the football stadium and shops, yet on the quiet road leading out to the Buddhist temple. Taxis from the hotel are very cheap - less than a dollar to get to the centre of town or to the temple. The site is a large one with lawned gardens and lake. It is divided into different buildings, which look like pagodas from the outside. Each area has a restaurant and its own staff. The rooms are large and comfortable, with all that you need. During the very hot season, the entire hotel is wonderfully cooled and the aircon workes very well throughout. Internet access is speedy, but limited by the state sensor. The dining area offers a wide variety of foods - the incredibly eclectic mix of Chinese and all other foods. Enough choice to give everybody seomthing to keep them happy. We would only mention one let-down. The swimming pool is large and divided into lanes. They don't seem to have got their heads around leisure swimming, and if you go to the pool (which is Olympic sized), you will need to be serious about swimming, not just messing around in the water. If we were to return to Yangzhou again, we would certainly stay at this hotel. Truly wonderful.

Excellent hotel complex built next to Yangzhou's famous slender lake. Rooms are typical in China, everything is just fine.

I stayed there for an official meeting for two days. The place is beautiful with lush green surroundings. The rooms are like a normal 4 star property but the main attraction is its open surroundings. You can use golf carts for moving around the convention halls, dining halls and main hotel area.
"clean, comfortable, modern"

this hotel is, in my opinion, one of the best hotels in Yangzhou. the grounds are well maintained, the beds are comfy, the rooms are clean, and the staff is warm and friendly. additionally, the hotel is centrally located, close to the lake and a perfect base for sightseeing around Yangzhou. there are international channels in the rooms, the toiletries are first class, and there is even turn-down service! most rooms overlook a lush garden (in the Fall, at least). i would recommend you book early, because on a few occasions i was unable to make a last minute booking.

"Confortevole yangzhou style!"
