This building has been meticulously restored and features wonderful period pieces. Each room has a theme. My wife and I spent multiple nights in the Gothic and Garden rooms. Everything from the furniture and light fixtures to the original wood and stained glass is in perfect condition. A beautiful restored mansion in a great location near Balboa Park. The service was very good. If you keep in mind that this is a bed and breakfast and not a hotel, you will enjoy it a lot. The Britt Scripps Inn is a gem!. Excellent service and friendliness of staff, housed in a 9 roomed Victorian historic house, with excellent breakfast included. I stayed in the Carriage House. Down comforters under and over me in a wooden framed antique bed, a jacousie bathtub that steamed all my worries away. Each room is distinctively decorated in […] a certain period in the Inn. Was very similar to living in the Victorian house I lived in in San Francisco in the '80s. The Inn is bedded in a small garden/yard area with lemon tree, camelia bushes and flowers, a raven in a large tree. And very conveniently located to both Balboa Park and the museums, as well as the SD Airport. afternoon wine and cheeses were nice. One night, my knee was swollen and I called on the phone to see if they had ice... a kind staff person brought me a bucket of ice to my door and it was 3 am in the morning... she did it willingly and helpfully and did not appear put out at all. There was a lot of noisy street traffic and there was a window over the door to our room that opened to the hallway which was lit all night long. So, there was no way to get the room dark to sleep and there was also no noise barrier to the rest of the B&B. The place is beautiful and has a romantic vibe, but not too romantic when you can hear conversations […] in the next room. The room was tiny and once we set our bag down and moved all of the pillows off the bed that we didn't need, there was no room to walk at all. Also, there was no way to plug the tub to use the beautiful bath tub and when I used a wash rag to improvise a bath plug, I found there was also no carrier to put any soap or anything to use the tub. This B&B was elegant and classy, the staff was amazing. Location a big plus with Balboa Park, airport and the harbor nearby. Only minor complaints were too many egg dishes for breakfast and showering in claw foot tub without getting some water on the floor.

While we liked the Scripps overall, our room was unpleasant. It was a tiny room on the first floor. It was so small there was only room for one strait back chair. It was also uncomfortably hot and very noisy due to the heat pump just outsidd our window. Recommend no one stay in that room.

My wife and I really enjoyed my stay at the Britt Scripps Inn. I wish I had booked extra nights as a two night stay was a bit short. I would have loved to stay for an extra breakfast or two. Fabulous scones and Omlets. This place has much character and is well kept. The staff was extremely helpful and made checking in and checking out a very easy task. […] They really work hard and at a quick pace, especially during breakfast, but it seems to come-off as and effortless. We know this was do to great planning and team work. The Staff was also very helpful with providing local travel directions and recommendations for day-life, night-life and restaurants. the first night the heater did not work at all, I was told to wait it will work. it never did, so the 20 something person in charge told me I could have an extra blanket ( Really ) I asked her to 'make it right' or I was checking out... she told me the owner was out of town and no one was going to fix it. She did have have a clue. only one 20 something […] is on staff at a time so you are pretty much on your own. The bill that was quoted on line was not the same as the bill given to me at the end of my stay, so I am still waiting to see what the final tab will be, I had no extra charges and the totals were not even close. This bed and breakfast was by far the best we stayed at as my wife and I traveled the Cali coast from Napa down to San Diego. The entire place is decorated and kept up very well. We noticed in our travels that some of the antique inns have an old dank smell like many old homes do, but not here. This place is bright, open and smelled great! The inn keeper Aileen was very nice and took us on a tour of all the rooms since we were there on a wednesday all the rooms were open and awaiting guests. My girlfriend and I came and had a great time. We stayed at the carriage house, which is a small house in the backyard of the inn. It was really nice to have our own little place. There was a jacuzzi tub in our room and a television with a DVD player...it was on a stand coming from the wall though that was probably a little old and kept drooping but […] we just kept moving the monitor back up and it was fine. The room overall was really great and the bed was very comfortable. We loved our butler, Aileen, who was extremely friendly and helpful. Breakfast was one of the best meal experiences I have ever had. The scone was absolutely amazing and we had breakfast scrambles, coffee, and orange juice. The inn was very close to Hillcrest, a busy and LGBT friendly neighborhood and there was a ton to do. We were also a block away from balboa park which was great and there was a dog park about a five minute walk away. The only downside I saw to the inn was that the wi-fi didn't work at all so we had to use the Internet on our phones but Aileen offered to let us use the computer there so we would have been fine.
