Booked and paid for 3 nights, checked out after 2 nights couldn't take any more. After changing rooms 3 times over 2 nights which meant packing and unpacking, packing and unpacking again and again, with my disabled mother who is still recovering from surgery. The beds were the most uncomfortable I have ever experienced in my life, I was in so much pain […] with my back problem. Problems with heating and hot water I was not prepared to risk another night. The hotel is in a good rural location, convenient for Durham, Newcastle, Gateshead and the A1. Also it is next door to the Beamish Museum which is well worth a visit, and adjacent to a golf course. The hotel has a lot of character and the staff are friendly, the Stable Restaurant is also worth a visit.

A very pleasant hotel. Stayed 3 nights, ate in the Stables bar twice, very acceptable, beer & food prices at normal pub prices, good friendly staff. Breakfast, (prepared / plated to order) was nice with quite a few options though the 'continental' was limited, no cheese or ham. Stayed here as a treat to celebate our 10th anniversary. Lovely room and very spacious bathroom. Absolutely spotless. Staff very accommodation and extremely friendly and helpful. Dinner at Stables restaurant was first class and breakfast was a knockout!

Room was quite small for a double. Sewer smell in bathroom although kept very clean. Only one bedside cabinet/light. Lack of drawer space and coat hangers. Stables Restaurant quite good but worth the two mile drive to eat at South Causey Inn instead. Service from hotel staff was excellent but restaurant staff got a few things wrong.

Our room was pleasant but very small for 2 people. There was only one bedside table so I had to use the floor to put my glasses on.
