Hotel is ok
"Excellent Location"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 2, 2012
The hotel is well-located. Though it is an old building, and it could use some renovation.
"Great small hotel"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 2, 2012
Great small hotel, well...let me take that back: the room is actually a small one room apartment, so is quite big, compared to a regular hotel room. The area is perfect with great restaurants and places to go at a walking distance, very safe too. I wanted a happening place with city noise, it was perfect for me, but if you need a silent place that does not wake the kids up at night don’t go there (I mean the neighborhood or Mexico city for that matters, not the hotel)

"amazing architecture; right on the Zocalo."
This century-plus aged hotel is stunningly beautiful inside. Look in even if you don't stay here. My suite was large and well appointed, but the AC didn't really cool the room and the bed was very squeaky. In short, it looked great but functioned a little less well. That said, I will stay here again on my next trip.
"Hotel Cuidad de Mexico in the Center of the City"
Our stay was the Best. Very safe. The Staff were very attentive on all levels. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend this hotel to any one who wants a Five star Hotel at a great value.
"Gran Hotel Cuidad De Mexico"
Our master suite was very nicely decorated and had a wonderful view on the Zocalo (bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper but it's worth it - the hotel itself is very quiet but there are often events on the Zocalo, which are fun to observe). The inside of the hotel is beautiful and has a large and spectacular Tiffany stained glass ceiling. We spent […] 4 nights there. Everybody was extremely pleasant and caring. We had 2 meals at the restaurant and we would recommend it. Read more
"Excellent hotel for the price"

"Gran Hotel Zocalo on Christmas Day"
This hotel is located steps away from the Zocalo. During our stay (25-27 Dec) an ice skating rink was set up on the square, and the square itself was crowded with locals, especially in the evenings when the decorative lights are on and many vendors selling food, drinks, balloons, etc. Very lively! We stayed in a standard room facing a side street, the […] bed was a bit hard but the room was clean and comfortable. Read more

"food is below average"
i am a hospitality consultant for 20 years and worked for the best in the world..that being said the glaring problem at the gran hotel in mexico city is the poor quality of food & beverage at the hotel which is not on par with the hotel design which conjures expectations simply said; on a scale of 1-10 , 10 being best the food rates a 4 the street […] noise level is high and often becomes an issue late at night when it becomes very loud and includes jack hammering from construction, loud parties and music from hotel functions Read more
"grand style"
this is a great place to stay. the rooms are huge, antiquey furnishings, great bathrooms and toiletries, great breakfast, great rooftop terrace. service a bit slow but service everywhere outside the US is always slow. only we live a 90 miles an hour! the only warning is that the beds are "hard" - not just firm - hard. i slept comfortably on the bed, […] but for someone who wants to sink into pillowtops etc, go to the hilton down the road. they are very friendly at this hotel but the hotel feels a little cold - the public areas are huge but there's little attempt to make it comfortable or warm - the atrium beneath the tiffany ceiling would welcome a piano bar lounge area with parlor palms and couches. i have stayed at the hilton and the embassy suites in mexico city. this place is my preferred destination for all future visits here. Incredible Art Nouvou Style with amazing Colored Glass cieling lobby and singing Birds. Everything takes you to an 20-30's era
"Perfect and Safe & Secure Location"
Everyone around me warned me about the safety of traveling to Mexico City. But, we had the best security around us, the hotel being right in the main square (Zocalo) area next to the City Hall, Palace Nacional, the Cathedral, and Templo Mayor. Police presence was everywhere and we felt perfectly safe around other tourists and locals. "Exellent hotel and high quality service"
We stayed here because of it's location right across from the zocalo. The hotel's beautiful and the rooms are spacious and super clean and nicely furnished. They have 3 pretty good reataurans on site as well. I'd stay here again!
"BEAUTIFUL GEM"
Nice hotel. very classic decor
"Gran Hotel in Mexico City"
The Gran Hotel lives up to its name . . . GRAND!. The staff are helpful and the rooms are great! If you want to tour the historical part of Mexico City, this is the place to stay. We highly recommend the Gran Hotel.
"AMAZING"
A few years ago when i studied in Mexico I could have only imagined of staying in a hotel this nice. This hotel's class, location, cleanliness, and age gives it character. It's a wonderful, safe, romantic hotel. A must do if you want more of Downtown Mexico City (D.F. to the locals).
"'Gran' is the right word"
A beautiful old hotel on the biggest zocalo in Mexico City, sadly, it was nearly empty. We found the concierge to be very charming & helpful, the office & wait staff in restaurant slow but the food was good, altho you can do better in the neighborhood places. Great view from the rooftop patio, recommend for the taking down & putting up of the gigantic […] flag ceremonies. The foyer is a must see even if not staying there, be sure to look up ! Read more
"Better than we expected"
Gran Hotel Ciudad de Mexico is absolutely beautiful, and the location for us was perfect. It is in a very busy corner so at times could be a bit noisy, that's to be expected from a major city. The room was so spacious and comfortable, the noise was barely noticeable. We loved that we had restaurants, museums, beautiful churches even a significant archeological […] find (Templo Mayor) all within walking distance from our hotel, not to mention the hotel being a historical building. The staff was very helpful and accommodating. Would stay there again. Read more

"Excellent service"
I would stay at this hotel time and again, if asked to return to Mexico City. It is a beautiful hotel. The rooms are clean, neat and comfortable. The bed was hard as a bag of rocks, but overall, the staff did all they could to make my stay a nice experience. The restaurant was nice and welcoming. The food was very good. The neighborhood, well it is […] Mexico, for goodness sakes. Read more

"Good Quality Hotel in Great Location"
Hotel was very clean, staff was very helpful and the main staff spoke English. Location cannot be beat - right of Zocalo square (one of the main squares in the city) and very close to a Metro stop.

"Gran Hotel--beauty, elegance and convenience"
This is a classic hotel at a great location. We have family near Mexico City, but to make it more convenient to see many of the downtown sights, we spent our last night at Gran Hotel. The lobby is very impressive, as are the rooms. There is a great restaurant/bar at the top of the hotel with a great view of the Zocalo. My grandmother and aunt, both […] Mexico City natives, highly recommended the hotel. The staff was great, security very good, and the hotel was very clean and elegant. Read more

"beautiful place.. too expensive"
it's really a beautiful place, but its too pricy for the style, you dont get much tv channels, not enough light, but the bathroom was nice & big, as well as the bedroom. service is good, i just wish they will offer complimmentary breakfast for the price they charged.
"Mexico City Hotel Stay"
Hotel - GREAT ! Great Location and really nice staff. The place is really amazing........ The only issue I had was the maid service threw away items on mine that were in my closet. "Beautiful Period Hotel in the Centro Historico"
Inexpensive taxi ride from MEX, a beautiful old hotel with meticulous housekeeping. Only real negatives are the noise simply due to the location and the typically Mexican bed - I have never encountered anything close to a pillow-top mattress in Mexico... they are ALL very firm and usually small with a minimum of pillows - that just seems to be Mexico […] not this hotel in particular. The location is very convenient for walking & browsing - lots of interesting shops nearby; hotel dining room was acceptable with good English spoken & good service. I'd stay there again ! Read more
"Heaven in Mexico City"
Most perfect hotel I've ever stayed in, period. Stunningly beautiful lobby, huge and luxurious room, situated directly facing the Plaza de Constitucion in the middle of downtown Mexico City....I can't imagine how this room could be any better. And it was the price of a Holiday Inn in the U.S.
"First time visit to Mexico City was wonderful."
First time trip to Mexico City and the Presidential Plaza area of Zocalo is perfect for first-time travelers to this magnificent city. There are so many sights to see within walking distance of this wonderful hotel. It is perfectly situated near many attractions and the amenities are wonderful. We asked for a room overlooking the plaza and they graciously […] met our request. The room was quaint and comfortable, a wonderful boutique hotel. The staff was amazing, offering up places to visit and eat, as well as going out of their way to ensure we had a way to travel to the ruins of Teotihuacan. I will go back very soon to ensure I see all the museums I was not able to visit this last time. Read more
"Old hotel-unconvenient location f/business travel"
Hotel is nice, but Old. Restaurant was 3/10. Dishes were cold and tasteless. Room has a decent size but not well equipped for business travelers. Internet connection was free but not very reliable. The hotel staff did not know anything about the area. I requested them to recommend a restaurant nearby and they would know where to send me. I walked to […] the pedestrian street nearby and dined in a Mexican chain restaurant, which was less than horrible. The area is beautiful if you are a tourist and hotel is very convenient located. "Great Location!"
Great location, awsome Roomservice (best burger ever!) Got a Jr Suite with Zocalo view and there was no noise at all. Only wished the roof restaurant was open for breakfast everyday.
"Very Authentic - Lots to offer!"
The hotel is located in El Zocalo, and was beautiful! It is in the heart of the central historical zone, and within walking distance of many historical sights and museums!
"A beautiful hotel"
I stayed at the Gran Hotel Ciudad De Mexico a number of times before it was renovated. The art novo features were lovely then but the hotel is greatly improved since the renovation. It is truly a breath taking beautiful place. The rooms are very comfortable and attractive. The restaurants and bars are excellent. There is a great piano player in the […] lobby bar. I will look forward to another stay there. Read more

"Gran Hotel de Ciudad de Mexico"
It was elegant and a fabulous deal through hotels.com! I´ve stayed at dives for more and this was like stepping back in time to a very elegent area. The stained-glass ceiling and giant birdcages made the lobby extraordinary. The rooms were enormous and high-ceilinged and the bathroom was modern, large and lovely. My only complaint was that they did […] not allow photos to be taken of the plaza below from their rooftop terrace. I´ve never been told that I couldn´t take a landscape picture from an outside space. Strange. Read more
"Grand older style hotel overlooking main square"
We had 4 nights at the hotel. The entrance foyer is one of the best in the world with its Tiffany glass roof. The canaries in the foyer welcomed you with their lovely whistles. The old fashioned cage lifts at each end of the foyer worked well and the whole atmosphere was one of calm, charm and early 1900s. Our junior suite overlooked the main square […] and had a 4-poster king size bed. From our suite we enjoyed watching the ceremony of the raising and lowering of the huge Mexican flag at 6.00 pm each evening by the Mexican armed forces and their drummers and buglers. However the 6.00 am ceremony did disturb our sleep somewhat. Overall a great hotel to stay in and their Terrace Cafe on the roof was a perfect place to watch the floodlighting of the surrounding buildings. Read more
"perfect Location for tourists!!&"
Loved every minute of it! Most museums were in easy walking distance. Very vibrant neighborhood. We received an upgrade for our 2 bed double and got what amounts to an apartment without a kitchen. "Gran Hotel Ciudad de Mexico"
Very noisy, hard beds, rooms not clean even after a 7 day stay. The staff was wonderful, however, throughout the hotel and restaurant. I could not recommend this hotel due to the condition and cleanliness of the rooms.

"Fantastic!"
We spent 4 nights in this hotel and it was great! The hotel is magnificent. The restaurant on the top floor has an amazing view and food is good. The room furnitures are so beautiful and clean, the friendly personal really helped us to do touristic things like going to see the Lucha Libre. There are shopping streets around the hotel with shops and restaurants […] open to 22.00 full of people and policemen. We felt in security and had a blast. Our room was with view on the square. OK, we woke up every morning at 6.00 because the army was raising the flag on the square. But we slept immediately after the ceremony was done. It was pretty funny. I recommend this hotel! Really!
