Our room was very nice and comfortable. The valet charge is a little steep at $18, and for the price of the room a continental breakfast would have been nice. The location was wonderful, it was just a short walk to Portsmouth's waterfront and shopping, making it an ideal choice. The staff were helpful and always available and the hotel while a little older in décor was very clean.

Spent a weekend in Portsmouth for my niece's wedding at the Moffatt-Ladd home. The venue was located right in front of the hotel. Everyone we encountered at the hotel was friendly and helpful. My only complaint was the carpet had a large black ink stain.

Checkin and checkout was uneventful. The hotel has a nice business center. Didn't love that the dining room wasn't open, and I had to eat in the bar. Parking is an additional cost.

The ballet attendant made a very good first impression and welcomed us to the hotel and carried our luggage to our room, The front desk staff upon arrival were professional, but not overly friendly, but we got our room keys very quickly, which was good after a long road trip with tired kids. The room was very clean, spacious and well appointed and having a microwave and a mini refrigerator was a plus. The location to down town Portsmouth was a short walk away and took only a few minutes and everyone we encountered were friendly. Upon return to our room after dinner, we were unable to access our room with our electronic keys and went to the front desk and were immediately accompanied to our room and the problem was revtified. I wish that we stayed longer to really enjoy the hotel and the fabulous lobby sitting area which was accompanied with a fire place. Overall, we had a pleasant stay and would stay there again if in the area and would recommend the same to family and friends.

Great hotel. There is a maintenance issue with their door locks that sometimes means you need to call the front desk to get in to your room but I assume that Hilton will fix this even if they have to replace every worn out door lock in the hotel. The staff is aware of this issue and is quite courteous about coming upstairs and helping you get into your room.

I thought the hotel was in a great spot! Close to everything so you can just walk. Loved that they had some amazing cookies at the check in desk with some delicious lemonade. I would definitely refer this hotel and would absolutely stay again!

The bed was the most uncomfortable bed ever! I might have gotten a better sleep if I had slept on the floor. My husband and I tossed and turned all night, and we both woke up with back aches. UGH! My only other complaint is that there was no tub in the bathroom. Just a shower.

We love staying at the Hilton Garden Inn in Portsmouth, however, this time we left a little disappointed. As we checked in, we were asked, "How did you book your room?" When I told them it was through Hotels.com, they asked if they could put us a non-handicapped accessible room, but still with a king bed. No problem! We got put in a room with a queen bed instead. Hmmmm. I'll still go back to the Hilton Garden Inn, but maybe I'll book directly through the hotel rather than through Hotels.com.

Great location to downtown Portsmouth. During the night the room wld become ice cold and then sweltering. It made for a lousy night of sleep. Pool was very small and crowded but my 4 year old was happy. There was no mention that parking wld be $18/night. Choice of valet or parking garage and they are the same $$.

I would absolutely go to this hotel again! The staff were very helpful and kind. The room was perfect- clean and cozy with everything we needed. The bar downstairs with the fireplaces was an awesome place to relax and have a drink, and the bartender was great too! The location is PERFECT- walking distance from everything you could want to visit.

My boyfriend and I went here for a romantic getaway. Unfortunately neither one of us could sleep on the mattress and both our backs ached so bad when we got up we could barely get dressed. I told the girl this upon checkout but didn't receive any compensation just an, Oh that's too bad. I thought it was satisfaction guaranteed, hmm guess not.

we chose the Hilton because of the location- but there was so much more! We were easily able to check in early and were helped by friendly staff who gave us some great tips on local bars to check out. Rooms were comfortable and clean. After our dinner and show, we came back to find a lively bar with live music- which was such a nice treat. The pool and spa were refreshing and relaxing after a weekend of exploring such a great town. We will definitely stay here again!

Stayed here on New Years Eve. Excellent location, friendly & helpful staff, very clean & well maintained. Very good make-to-order breakfast for $11.99. Would definitely recommend to others and stay there again next time we're in Portsmouth. The only negative is $18 for valet parking. You could probably self-park in the large garage right across the street for less.

Stayed at this hotel around the holidays. Great room in a great neighborhood; very walkable & historic.Minutes from shopping, restaurants and pubs. Valet service ended up slightly confusing, as it was unclear whether it had been successfully added to the bill, as was said.

Have absolutely nothing negative to say about this Hilton. Arrived hoping for an early check-in. Despite the very busy front desk with tons of guests coming and going, my cell number was taken with assurance I'd be called as soon as my room was ready. They kept that promise! Room was immaculate for duration. Only (mild) disappointment....had hoped for plush pillowtop mattress but, alas....maybe next time. Amazing restaurants just a block away. Sorry, did not use hotel for 'eats'.....way too many to explore in neighborhood. Great stay...good rate...would return again.

I booked my room through Expedia. The price was fair. My auto response from Expedia said I would have a confirmation within 20 minutes.........I got the confirmation quite a few hours AFTER checking OUT of the hotel at the end of my stay. The staff at the hotel was very welcoming and told me that I had been given a free upgrade.....the room I stayed in looked like the room that I booked. Not sure it was an upgrade?? When I got to my room, the keys did not work. I flagged down a member of housekeeping who spoke with the front desk........she then let me into the room and told me that they would bring new keys right up. I unpacked and left my room a half hour later........hadn't seen the new keys yet, so I stopped at the front desk and got new ones myself. There was another set of keys under my door when I returned from dinner. The room was a bit noisy early in the morning and there seemed to be non-stop doors banging in the hallway. Breakfast in the hotel restaurant was not the most appetizing. Tasted a bit like school cafeteria food to be honest.

The hotel staff is awesome. Super friendly and helpful. One small nit: the indoor pool is tiny, no hit with the kids.

We stayed the weekend at this hotel as we were seeing a show at the Music Hall in Portsmouth. Location is ideal, close and within walking distance to everything...downtown location...We were impressed with the ambiance of the hotel...warm..inviting (many fireplaces and private nooks wherein to sit on a comfy couch, look at the fire and watch the tv.....The staff was to a person, fantastic...professional....personable....even the Valet parking staff guys were great (take advantage of this service as it is convenient and a time saver.
