"Situated in great area"
An excellent hotel with friendly staff and great foodGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We stayed at the Regent for two nights and had a fantastic time. The location is great, right on the lake. We booked a superior room which came with an amazing view. The hotel was very clean and modern, breakfast was delicious and the staff were very helpful and friendly.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Lovely anniversary stay"
We stayed for two nights here and it was lovely The staff were friendly and the food was great for both breakfast and dinner The only thing that let them down in my opinion was leaving soiled tablecloths on the table for the next guests Clean ones please!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Superb staff, great location & food.cannot fault it.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very comfy and clean"
Smooth, efficient and most welcoming check-in. All staff on reception very friendly. Breakfasts superb. Room very comfortable;a couple of down points with bedside lights too low to read a book due to low wattage, type of shade and low position. Only one towel rail in bathroom placed directly in line of shower and nowhere else to hang towels so we were […] permanently shuffling them out of the way as each was using the bathroom. Apart from these couple of points, everything was absolutely spot on. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"A nice place to stay!"
Friendly efficient staff who were helpful and flexible.Genuine Expedia guest review
A lovely hotel with very friendly, helpful staff. The food was excellent and it was great not having to rush down for breakfast (they serve until 12). The walls seemed a little thin and we could hear the next door occcupant on his mobile (though he did seem a little irate!) . I think we would upgrade the room next time we stayed but overall we thoroughly […] enjoyed our time in the hotel and would definitely stay again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Very polite and friendly staff. Breakfast quite good, and overall a positive hotel experience. I would recommend the Regent to others.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice hotel, but room noisy"
We found the hotel very clean, the staff were very friendly and the inclusive breakfasts very nice. The breakfasts were served between 8am and 12pm which give a good flexibility if like us, we liked a lay in. The only negative and it's quite a big one is the room we were in (Room 16) was very noisy, it faced the busy main road and the hotel car park. […] We had the windows open due to the temperature and all we heard from about 6am was beer deliveries to the hotel and heavy traffic on the main road. We would still recommend this hotel, but certainly not room 16. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Close to boats"
Staff were very friendly and most helpful, nothing was to much trouble. Service at breakfast was first class and meals served hot and well cooked. Although you are not overlooking the lake as the hotel is hidden behind an inn it is only a few yards walk to the lakeside. I would recommend the hotel to anyone wanting a quiet comfortable base to tour the […] lakes. We will go again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"2 night stay at the Regent with the dog"
We stayed at the Regent for 2 nights with our dog as a base whilst trying out a few of the walks along Angletarn Pikes. The hotel was a great choice and I would recommend it as a place to stay in Ambleside, although slightly out of the town centre its only a 2 min drive up the road. We did debate whether to stay in the town or by the lake but decided […] to go for the lake option which we would do again. The hotel was clean, tidy, comfortable, modern and in a good location with parking. The staff were very friendly and there always seemed to be plenty of them about, especially at breakfast. We couldn't fault breakfast, there was lots of choices and the cooked breakfast was delicious, the staff came round constantly asking if you want more coffee or more toast. As for taking the dog with us the Regent was very dog friendly, even put a bone in the dog bowl for our arrival, there is a pet shop directly across the road for any items you may have forgotten which is very handy. Overall we would recommend the Regent to anyone looking for a good base in the lakes, especially those looking for a great dog friendly hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
The hotel was nice and the reception staff pleasant and helpful. We upgraded to a garden room and that was very nice although I would be curious to see a standard room to see what was particularly special about the garden room. Our only problem was the staff at breakfast. Both mornings we didn't get what we asked for (off the menu) and had to wait while […] they went back to get it, obviously that's not a massive concern it was just a bit annoying and we felt it was such a simple thing to get wrong. Other than that, no problems, lovely location, nice hotel. We both said we'd like to go back to the Lake District but would try somewhere else just because there's so much choice. Location excellent - a few yards from the lake and boat departure point. All of the staff we encountered were well trained and pleasant. The choice of breakfast was the best we have come across in any hotel. No parking problems which is a big plus. "Ideal for a mid-week break"
Nothing too much trouble for the staff. Food very good. An enjoyable mid-week break....except for the weather!Genuine Expedia guest review
We stayed over the bank holiday weekend with another couple and really enjoyed the hotel. The service was excellent and the decor is modern but comfortable and the breakfasts were really good. So much choice and the scrambled eggs were really good. The hotel location is perfect for catching the boat over the lake to Bowness and further afield. We also […] went to Wray Castle which is just a short drive away. We had a really lovely stay so thank you very much. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"A Nice Break"
Really Good Hotel right on the lake. Nice decor, great staff and a 10 minute walk into Ambleside Centre. Breakfast was superb with the added bonus that you can have it until 12:00; so when the weather is bad, you can have a much needed sleep in first!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"one of the best in Ambleside"
Great value hotel offering great service and a top restaurant. Breakfasts are outstanding.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice peaceful break"
Nice hotel, very quiet, which is what we wanted, lovely room well prepared. We had one of the garden rooms which helped the peace and quiet as it was away from the road. Was a little bit of repair work going on but didn't interfere with our stay. Breakfast was good and substantial, served until 12noon which was a good idea for us. It is a good 10 minute […] walk into Ambleside, which even though is along a main road is quite poorly lit at night. We didn't eat at the hotel as we were visiting others who had arranged alternatives. Overall a nice hotel would recommend a stay Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"REGENT HOTEL AMBLESIDE"
Excellent Location in lovely surroundings. Very comfortable room. Friendly and helpful staff. Good food and service. Plenty of parking facilities. Thoroughly enjoyable stay and very likely to stay again. Certain areas did need some redecoration.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Enjoyed our stay"
The hotel was right on the lake and within walking distance of the shops and restaurants in Ambleside. The room was comfortable, clean and had nice decor. The breakfast in the morning was delicious and there was quite a range to choose from all included in the price if you are bed and breakfast. Nice romantic getaway!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I was charmed being on the edge of lake windermere, and the surrounding views of the mountains made the location lovely, the room was comfortable, clean and well maintained. the breakfast in the mornings was something i relished! and can recommend the kippers, the hotel is obviously situated in the middle of the lakes so is convenient for surrounding […] visits for walks and other activities. and would not hesitate to go back. Just returned from 3 nights at the Regent and I have to say it was an excellent Hotel. Stand out items, the Staff at reception were superb, very friendly, polite and helpful. The breafasts were really good, great choice, smashing full english. The room was good (not great) no view but apart from this couldn't be faulted. Nice location a few meters from the Lake and a 10 minute walk from Ambleside. All in all a good place to stay at.

This hotel has proved above and beyond exceptional. We arrived by chance having booked a caravan (which we left as it was filthy) - we were passing and asked if any rooms. I don't want to leave. The lady on reception was outstanding and has done nothing but help. Rooms are exceptional.
"Fantastic hotel, should be 4 stars"

This may well be the best review I've ever given as I am toiling to find anything to complain about. We got lost (our fault) and arrived frazzled and the very charming and friendly redhead at reception smoothed our ruffled feathers with a lovely welcome. We had a garden room (huge and very nice with a comfortable bed and we slept like logs both nights), used the bar (ok prices and nice and cozy) and ate in the restaurant the 2nd night (fine dining, good value for money). The service throughout was excellent especially at reception (same person) and at breakfast (everyone but especially the very friendly blonde lady who explained what was available). Vast choice of hot dishes at breakfast, you could easily stay a week and not repeat! The hotel is slightly outsite Ambleside but is only a 15 minute walk away (done by me as a fat, unfit 50s) so you might manage it in 10. If that is too much for you a taxi is only a few pounds or there is a funny eco bus to be found where the boats for lake trips leave from.
"Excellent stay and wonderful people"

Our 4 night stay at the Regent was excellent. The hotel is a family run one as I came to know. Its a wonderful hotel right next to the ambleside lake. People here are very arm and always ready to help. The breakfast is simply fantastic, especially the eggs to order. Only thing which I has a slight problem was the mattress which was OK comfort wise. Would definitely come back again.
"Stayed here on and off since 1986"

Stumbled across this little gem in 1986 when I was sent "Up North" to do some training work for my then employer NatWest Bank. Whenever I return to The Lakes I always try to rebook into The Regent and have never once been let down on Service; Rooms or Food ( i did make the mistake once of venturing further inland to another "hotel"- bad result indeed!) The rooms have always been very well kept without any hint of lack of cleaning. The food is simply some of the best I've had in a hotel and the breakfasts are to die for. Barwise we always rack up a high bill but thats due to myself and my wife (and the volume she drinks) not the overall cost per unit. This is a family run business and not a faceless conglomerate- if there are any problems (and I cannot think of any over the years) they will sort it. I hope that they will return to doing Christmas and New Year breaks again- BTW the out of season 3 or 4 day breaks are superb value for money. Certainly look to return again and again although the haul up from Bristol is quite a drive. Go- you will not be disappointed. I do feel that some of the "negative" comments on here are possibly a tad vindictive for whatever reason.............
"Just the ticket!"

We wanted a quiet few days away in a clean, friendly hotel with good food and great staff and thats just what we got. Great value for money in a great location. Staff are very friendly and really go out there way to make your stay most enjoyable.

Booked this hotel with our six grown children and boyfriends to celebrate 30th wedding anniversary, so we wanted a good time with family who all travelled from afar. The hotel did not disappoint and helped in everyway they could to make this a special event . The odd little thing like getting breakfast orders wrong was no major issue, ( with 10 orders and one table this was going to happen) the humour of staff was great and rooms were very comfortable and quite. The whole family had a large table and private area set aside for us. Food in Resturant was wonderfull and excellent value. I would only have one request of hotel and that is to have proper showers fitted to baths and not shower heads to bath taps. With no screen, it gets messy! Would I go back is the real review pointer, yes I would and Thank you to the staff...

We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 nights stay at the Regent. First impressions were that the hotel was bright, modern and cared for by the staff. The hanging baskets were stunning. We had a standard room on the top floor, this was a little cramped and fine for a short stay but if it had been really hot I would have liked to be able to open the windows a little wider or had air conditioning A clothes hook in the bathroom and a shelf to put a toiletries would be a really useful addition to a good shower room. The bar and lounge areas were very comfortable. We ate in the restaurant on both evenings, the second evening we had friends who ate with us. The choice and quality of the food was excellent . My husband loved the posh cheese on toast and had it both evenings for his starter. We ate the sea bass, steak and slow cooked lamb all were delicious and hot. I love a good desert and there were plenty to choose from. The whole meal was conducted in a relaxed atmosphere. The breakfasts were excellent, plenty of choice, and well cooked. We were there on Monday evening and I was really impressed that the lights were dimmed and a candle lit. The bar and food prices are average for a hotel so you don`t have to go out to find somewhere to have a drink. The hotel staff were in the main very friendly and professional. Although we have stayed many times at other hotels in the Windemere area this was our first visit to this hotel . It is one that we will be adding to our list of hotels to re visit.
"Very pleasant staff"

Just back from a 2 day stay at the Regent, every member of staff from reception to bar and restaurant staff very nice, and cannot do enough for you. We ate in the restaurant both nights, the food was excellent. The meals do take a while to come out, but we were not in a rush to go anywhere, so this did not bother us, food was certainly worth waiting for. So much so there was several tables of guests from other hotels, preferring to eat at this hotel restaurant rather than where they were staying. The bar area is lovely, a nice place to chill. Room was spacious with air conditioning, and tea making facilities. Overall a great break, and will definitely return.
"Nice Hotel and location."

Just had a couple of nights B and B at the Regent Hotel, Ambleside right by the Lake.Stayed in a twin room (29) right at the end of the first floor corridor in the building opposite the main hotel. 15 steps up to it si not mobile make sure you ask for a ground floor room. Small bathroom but large shower cubicle with good power. Usual facilities in room with clean linen and comfortable beds. First night ate in the Bar. We had haddock and chips and the award winning steak ,ale and onion pie with mash. Excellent pie full of meat unusually- most of these types of pies don,t contain a lot of meat but this one did and was tasty. The Haddock was not large but was ok and the chips were good. Both dishes could have done with a few mushy peas really but were good value in nice surroundings and a couple of drinks. The second night we just ordered sandwiches and one portion of chips . It was a large portion and we didn't,t eat them all but the prawn sandwich and the ham sandwich were both good and also good value. Overall although quite full the Hotel was quiet especially after 10.30pm and sleep came easily. Breakfasts were served up to Noon, a tactic which a lot of other Hotels should follow and the Menu was extensive with juices, fruit cereals, porridge, large cooked breakfasts with the usual ingredients I.e. Bacon, egg,( on toasted crumpet) mushrooms, sausage, black pudding, beans, . Also smoked salmon and scrambled egg, pancakes with maple syrup and omelettes cooked to order if required. Very extensive and very tasty! The Staff were attentive, friendly and efficient. Overall a great couple of days. Hotel recommended and will definitely return. There are other types of room in addition to the Standard Room we had.
