"Unexpected quality for price and location"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
The hotel's own website seems to understate its excellent location, as it has an opening into the main street of Sorrento just a short walk from the main square. It is within walking distance of the scenic old mill, the train station, the marina (with its outstanding seafood restaurants) and its stunning views of the bay of Naples and the hillside villas and hotels of Sorrento. The staff was very accommodating to our special needs, allowing us to leave our luggage and to use its restroom facilities even after we had checked out. Also, the price of the rooms was reasonable. Our party did not take the advice of the female night clerk who recommended that we eat at the restaurant next door; instead, we ate at Ristorante Delfino at the marina (which I also highly recommend).

"Near train Station and Walking distance to Sights"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 4, 2012
Very happy with Hotel Sorrento City. Staff spoke excellent English and were extremely helpful. Room was very comfortable with the only drawback being the TV in the room had only one Engligh speaking channel (MTV...ugh). Excellent location and easy to find right on the main street near the train station. Very good breakfast and free Wi-Fi included which worked very well in the room. Highly recommend Hotel Sorrento City.
"Should be a six star close to Air Port"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 3, 2012
We were going back to Charlotte NC. From the moment tbat we steped into the lobby area, We were greeted, taken care of. The hotel management to the person that carried our baggage to our room I felt that I was coming back to friends. I will stay at this hotel when ever I am in Naples. It was an outstanding short stay. What a palace.

Right by the train station. Nice hotel, efficient. On a busy, noisy street. They were nice and let us keep out luggage overnight while we went down to Pompei.

"Cozy boutique hotel, convenient location"
Nice, cozy hotel a short walk from Pompei Santuario station and right across from one of the entrances to Ancient Pompei. The woman at reception was very nice and helpful. The complimentary afternoon snacks of olives, peanuts, corn nuts, bread sticks, panini, salami and ham sandwich skewers, orange slices, strawberries, etc. was a godsend after a long […] day of traveling from Rome. The gardens are also lovely to sit in with all the fruit trees. Breakfast (included) was also great, with lots of variety. While the room (we had 41) has a bit of an 80's feel with all the formica, it's clean and well appointed with a balcony. Nice complementary toiletries, too! We'd go back. Read more
"Hotel Forum-right across from Pompeii Ruins"
Excellent location. Right across from the Pompeii Ruins and on the main shopping avenue. Plenty of local food choices as well as BK with an Italian Bistro....for late night cravings right next to the hotel. Very comfortable and clean rooms. Perfectly priced. Wonderful breakfast with both American and Italian options. Staff was extremely helpful and […] pleasant. Beautiful terraces with city views of all of Pompeii from the top of the hotel. Easy to find. Free Parking is a 24 hour secure lot across the street. Read more
Very nice, clean, nice balconies and views.
"Hotel Forum in Pompei - excellent location"
This is a very nice, small Italian hotel with a wonderful garden patio and generous and welcoming staff. Garden is an outstanding place to sit and socialize after visiting Pompei. It is filled with citrus fruit trees and comfortable furniture. One could spend the entire day here. Staff is welcoming and accommodating to every request. Rooms are a little […] small by American standards but typical of Italian hotels. Our room had everything needed to make our stay comfortable. I would definitely recommend this hotel to others. "perfect location across from Ruins"
This place is right across the street from the ruins which was great especially since it was a rainy day. Not a fabulous hotel but average. Staff was helpful and the food was very average. It was a clean hotel and fine for a one nighter..but if visiting ruins I would say..stay in Sorrento and do a day trip to ruins and then go back to Sorrento.

"A wonderful time"
The Hotel Fourm is just a two minute walk to the main entrance to Pompei. The staff was very nice and accommodating. The room was clean and comfortable. When I needed recommendations for dining they did a wonderful job in their suggestions. I would certainly stay here again.
"The Hotel location is perfect across the ruins"
Very helpful and wonderful staff. The breakfast was the best we had and the service was excellent. The location is superb.
"Great location!"
We stayed overnight in Pompei at Hotel Forum. Room was very comfortable. Lovely common areas, great outdoor lounge to have a drink and meet up with friends also staying at the hotel. Breakfast lovely with indoor or outdoor option. Desk staff VERY helpful with information. Just down the street from the ancient city. Clean and comfortable for our last […] night in Italy. Read more
"Great Hotel to see Pompeii"
An amazing hotel located across the street from the entrance to the ruins of Pompeii. Excellent room, cleanliness, amenities and hotel staff. Not situated in the best location for restaurants and shopping but perfect for seeing the ruins and not far from the Circumvesuviana.
"Hotel Forum Pompeii - perfect location"
We stayed two nights at the Hotel Forum in Pompeii and were very pleased. The location is perfect -- just yards from the amphitheater entrance, which is a quieter entrance with no crowds or wait. I strongly suggest visiting the ruins at the end of the day - if you are at the gate before 6pm you can stay until 7.30 or so without crowds and enjoy the […] late day light and cooler weather. The staff at the Forum was very helpful. They validate parking right across the street, and recommended an excellent restaurant nearby, the President, where Forum guests are offered a discount. With or without the discount it was the best place to eat in town. They gave accurate information about visiting Paestum as well. The breakfast buffet in the garden was very pleasant. We stayed in a Junior Suite, which was really more of a large room. If budget permits I think they are worth it - with 54 and 56 the best ones. The rooms that overlook the street are the best, and the windows are thickly glazed so there was no sound issue. Softer pillows would be my only suggestion. All in all the Forum is well located, attractive and very convenient for visiting the ruins at Pompeii, and an excellent jumping off spot for exploring the other nearby sites such as Herculaneum and Paestum. It is nice to be able to walk around the central square in Pompeii and the large church which is its focal point. I did not see any other hotels in Pompeii which would compete. Read more
"Hotel Forum needs some loving care"
The hotel is convenient to the historical sites. The basic room has very thin walls and you can hear every thing going on around you. Breakfast is very good by Italian standards. Free parking is an excellent perk. The staff was helpful and welcoming.
"You won't regret it."
Great LOCATION. Stayed 2 nights and loved it! Also...free parking. I hate finding a spot and these guys had it covered. Really clean.....and super convienant. The staff hooked us up several times....and were friendly. If I visit the area again....this is my spot.
"Idea location for trip to see ruins."
Even though my grandson and I only spent one night in Pompei, I was certainly glad we booked the night in Forum Hotel. Walking into hotel lobby, my grandson said "This is what I pictured an Italian hotel should look like". He was referring to the courtyard. The room was just what I asked for and there were spare pillows in the wardrobe along with a […] very neat, clean bathroom. My grandson loved the round tub and the circular shower glass. The bed was a little hard, but we both slept well. Breakfast was usual for most Italian hotels with ham, cheese, breads, rolls, OJ, American coffee, scrambled eggs and a sausage, cold cereal and pastries. There was an outdoor patio where you could sit and enjoy nature, it was quite lovely. My grandson found his way up to the solarium and said the view was cool. Hotel staff offered many suggestions for good meals and we followed her advice. Getting to the restaurant offered a wonderful walk through town and the square. It was raining and very windy, but we still felt like we wanted to stay longer. One word of advice, make sure the Circumvesuvious train is not on strike. We came into Naples from Rome and found out there was a strike lasting from 9am to 2pm. Had to share a cab for 50.00 Euros. Read more
"loud"
The hotel was everything you could dream of in theory; great bed, nice bathroom, good breakfast. However, the road side of the hotel was so noisy with constant car horns until 3 am. The location was deceiving as it was a nice short quiet walk to the ruins during the day and a totally different story after 11 pm. Ask for a room not facing the road.
"The Hotel Forum in Pompeii"
This hotel comes with a lovely garden room, perfect for escaping the crowded streets of Pompeii.
"The best Pompei Hotel"
Hotel Forum did not dissapoint. The rooms were beautiful, and the grounds were wonderful. Staff was friendly and spoke pretty good English compared to other places we stayed. We loved the location, very close to the excavations, and a nice area. We would definitely stay here again.
"Super Stay"
What a great hotel. Location was great. Close to rail stations and across the street from an entrance to the ruins. Hotel was a steal at the rate we paid. We will come back and use this hotel as a base of operations for that part of Italy.
"great location and beautiful garden"
The location is FANTASTIC: The Hotel Forum is about 500 yeards from the entrance to the Pompei Ruins, a 10 minute walk to the train station and 5 minutes to any one of a dozen great restaurants and shops. The complementary breakfast was varied and tasty. The rooms are small but clean and about what you would expect for Italty in this price range. what […] was a wonderful superise were the gardens. You can sip wine under an arbor covered with green and purple grape vines. LOVELY! Read more
"Hotel Forum - perfect"
GREAT location, 2 minutes from old Pompei. This is a great hotel, very nice rooms. We actually had 2 rooms (one for the parents, one for the 2 kids). The rooms here are not big enough to house all 4 of us. Good quality, nice rooms, free internet, nice breakfast included. The hotel has a nice garden where you can read a book and have a drink. To get […] here, take the train from Naples to Sorrento and get out at Pompei Scavi. From there you can take a cab (10 Euro) or take the bus (what we did). I would definitely stay here again. "Hotel Forum"
With the exception of bad street directions, the experience was just awesome. The room was so nice and a beautiful bathroom. The little town of Pompeii is cute and a great place to walk after dinner. We can't wait to come back and stay at the Hotel Forum (now that we know how to get to it). Staff was GREAT!

"Hotel Forum - fantastic for visitors to the ruins"
The Hotel Forum deserves every star of it's 4-star rating. Conveniently located for visitors to the ancient ruins of Pompeii, the Amphitheatre Gate is just a few minutes walk away on the other side of the street. The town square of modern Pompei is also just a short walk away, along Via Roma (around 10 minutes or so). There are two railway stations […] in close vicinity; Pompei (the modern city) and Pompeii Scavi (opposite the ancient ruins). Hotel staff are extremely welcoming, helpful, and friendly. We found our room, and the hotel in general, to be extremely clean, well equipped and tastefully decorated. The dining room was large and comfortable with a garden view, and the complimentary continental-style buffet breakfast offered ample choice - this included a few hot food items as well as the usual selection of cereals, breads, cheeses and cold meats. After a long day at the ruins, the hotel's beautiful gardens offered a comfortable and relaxing surrounding in which we enjoyed a few drinks before getting ready for an evening in the modern Pompei. All in all, we would highly recommend this hotel to anybody visiting the area, but especially to those wishing to visit the ruins. Read more

"Great Hotel and close to the Pompei Ruins"
Very nice and commfortable hotel. Fresh juice for breakfast which can't be found anywhere in Italy. The hotel's frontdesk is very nice and helpful !! We took only 2 minutes walk to reach the historic sites and 5 minutes walk to the local plaza and restaurants. We even arranged a pick up car to drive us to Sorrento. The only probblem with this hotel […] was the fired egg was a bit salty...apart from this, Highly Recommended ! Read more
"Convenient location to Pompei ruins"
Hotel is just across the street from one of the entrances to the Pompei archaeological site. We enjoyed our stay here.
"Nice Hotel"
Nice hotel, nice staff, well located for visiting historic Pompeii.
"Central and convenient"
We were pleased with the central location of the Forum Hotel, which was ideal for our tour of Pompei. The staff were always hlpful and communicated well.
"Beware of the cheaper rooms"
The simple standard rooms are not 4*-Level (the price was also very low) as the room and especially the bathroom is extremely small. The rest of the hotel is nice and the breakfast was excellent.

"L'hotel Forum Pompei (sic) -a pleasant place"
My family spent two nights at Forum. Room rates are steep relative to the Sheraton Roma , our favourite hotel in Rome. While the interior of our rooms (33 and 34) is fairly basic, the only negative aspect is that the wall-mounted A/C--unit in '34' is totally underpowered. Even with the ceiling fan set at "5", the room temperature remained elevated. […] However, '34' (on the building's SW-side) has a small balcony and is very quiet. Room 33 is comfortable. Typically for Europe, Forum provides no face clothes. It costs only cents to provide one-time use paper-face clothes (as in German hotels). The Forum's receptionists are courteous, friendly, competent and very helpful. Several features enhance the hotel's attractiveness. In the late afternoon, hors d'oeuvres are being served in the lobby. We sat in comfortable chairs under two very old arched grape vines under a canopy of vines and enjoyed a bottle of white Lacryma Christi (although, at 18 Euros, the price iss steep relative to what we paid for an even better bottle (Euros 13.20) in a nearby restaurant). We enjoyed the hotel's buffet breakfast, served on the lower level with open doors toward the patio's seating area protected from the sun by grape vines. The croissants are exceptionally good. One night, (and the next day at lunch), we ate at the outdoor restaurant covered by a canopy of grape vines, and enjoyed our food very much. My filet was perfectly cooked medium rare, as requested, and the rest of my family enjoyed pasta dishes. The entire garden area reminds of a sea of tranquility, separated from the bussle of Via Roma. The entrance to Scavi di Pompei is only 3 minutes, and Circumvesuviana's Pompei station is about 10-15 minutes away. lWe would stay again at Forum. Read more

"Very conveniently located to the markets and ruins"
We stayed for 2 nights, welcomed by an English speaking friendly receptionist, room had a balcony, good size, all facilities in the room were of good quality. AC, bathroom, bed, decent size LCD and best of all wireless Internet on my iPhone, it was fast enough to even watch YouTube. Breakfast was great as well, served in a lovely area looking on to […] an open space, loved the cornnetos and plenty of other usual things to choose from. Forgot the name of the receptionist but she was exceptional very helpful and friendly. Would definitely stay in the hotel again. Read more
"the Hotel Forum Pompeii"
An enjoyable 3 night stay at this conveniently sited hotel. Staff were friendly and helpful, the breakfasts were varied and generous and the gardens a real oasis where we could sit in the evening and sip drinks from the bar along with complimentary titibits. The archeoligical ruins are easily accessible although the entrance opposite is not the main […] one where audioguides etc can be obtained.. The hotel is within easy walking distance to the pleasant town centre where restauarants are to be found. We would highly recommend this hotel. Read more
"Good location but the smell inside our room...."
Stayed in this hotel just over a week ago (June 2011). Very convenient location, nice-ish garden in the back, good rate, gratis parking just across the road, decent breakfast - i would be giving this hotel much higher marks - we would have also overlooked other things considering the price we paid (cheap furniture, ancient towels, dirty plastic seats […] on the balcony and view on decrepit buildings from our windows at the back of the hotel), if not the persistant bleach smell that made us want to spend as little time as possible inside our room. Was it a smoking room in the past? Also, if you ever do stay there, do not ask the advise of the staff as to where to have a dinner. "President" was their suggestion. Suffice to say i sent my fillet back to the kitchen - it was neither medium rare nor a fillet!.. Same story about Pompeii as such - not worth a stay in my opinion - if you can stay somewhere else and just come for a day, i would suggest that. Of course the ruins were magnificent even if some famous houses have been closed on the day (House of Vettii or House of Julia Felix). So if you go to Pompeii to mainly see old frescos or statues rather than ruins themselves, find out what houses are currently opened and which are closed to the public, and remember that anyway many of statues/frescos have been removed ages ago and are on display in Naples' Museo Archeologico Nazionale - although sometimes copies are on display in Pompeii... "Hotel Forum in Pompeii -great"
this hotel is convenient to the ruins and all the shops and restaurants. beautiful hotel with a great outdoor sitting area in amongst the fruit trees. The entrance to the ruins is a 5 minute walk. You can walk from the train station..maybe 10 minutes. Make sure you see the church in the square...it was one of the most beautiful we saw in Italy
"good overall"
Excellent location for those arriving by train wishing to see pompei ruins and catch bus to vesuvious. We had to change our room as air con not working. But we were upgraded to a nicer room and felt well served. Really well placed hotel and excellent breakfast garden area.
"Hotel Forum - close to the excavations"
This is a comfy hotel with a splendid garden to relax in after a long day touring the archaeological site. There is an entrance to the site a few metres away and the town square is a short walk. The staff couldn't be more helpful.
"Proche site archeologique - tres bruyant"

"Hotel Forum"
