This is a beautifully appointed hotel in a historical building in a very pretty town in Northern Spain.

This hotel was great for a 2 day beach getaway. It was right on the beach with views of the ocean from every room. Our balcony was comfortable, but overlooked the parking lot and was on the first floor so we were unable to leave the door open overnight and there were no windows to open (would have been nice given there is no AC in the hotel). With that said, parking was free of charge at this hotel, a huge bonus. The only true negative about this hotel was that there were very few restaurants near the hotel as it is at the northern end of El Sardinero beach. However, we learned during our second day there that taxis to town (where there is excellent food) are cheap (3-5 euros each way) and the hotel has a nice cafe for tapas or a quick morning snack.

The hotel was a convenient location to take the Brittany Ferry from Santander, Spain to Plymouth, England. The staff was efficient. Our Spanish was horrible, but communicating was easy. This is a great place to stay for a weary traveler.

It was a warm day at the end of October when we arrived, and the air conditioning was not working, so the staff moved us to a room on a higher floor so we could have the windows open for air flow without compromising our security. When I booked I understood that the hotel had air conditioning, but the man on reception said that there was only air conditioning […] in the summer, and now it was winter. Winter in Santander is much warmer than summer in England! The room was unbearably hot, and there was noise outside which made it difficult to sleep with the window open, but too hot with it closed, so difficult to sleep both ways. We had a wonderful time and the staff were so friendly and helpful. The location was second to none and we had a superb view of the Cantabrian sea from our room. The breakfast was excellent with so much to choose from, including bacon, sausages and eggs. Would recommend to anyone.

Silken Rio in Santander is very coveniently located to the beach and some of the nicest walks and parks you will see anywhere.Beaches and surronding area are spotless.Maybe because it was March and not too many tourists about.Hotel was fine,good value for what we paid,bus to town is one minute from hotel and very frequent.Resturants in area not good […] though.Television in the room could be upgraded and a few more channels even with subtitles because we dont speak spanish.Would def go back to Santander. This is a very nice hotel. The breakfast is superb, but expensive if you have to purchase it separately (not part of package). Our room was a little noisy being located at the rear of the hotel and facing a parking area. The AC did not work but that was probably because it is turned off this time of the year (October). Nice small hotel with view to a wonderful long beach. Santander is famous for many long and beautiful beaches. Scenery is beautiful and peaceful, with the Atlantic ocean right outside the door. The hotel had poor restaurant openings, open only from 20:30 to 22:30. The alternative at the hotel was a lousy bar with baguettes. The breakfast thogh was one […] of the best with a lot of fruits, breads and cakes. The cooked ham was perticular good. The hotel is located 5-6 kilometers from the city center, so if you are in need of somthing to buy, this hotel is not for you.
