Very nice little hotel, perfect for younger couples! The location is excellent, lots of restaurants and shops in a walking distance! Montreal is wonderful friendly and vibrant. This hotel fits in the city very well! Although we didn't try the restaurant in the hotel, next time we definitely will! We loved it and the staff was very friendly. Valet parking […] was $15.00/day which is also very friendly compare with the rest of the city. The African theme in our room was unusual but nice touch! Deep tub in the bathroom and a shower-tower I called with body jets also cool. We didn't used our little kitchenette but it's good to have one if you need it. Coffee machine and fridge was used by us and the TV too. Nice Samsung flat screen on the wall! Amazing King size bed was comfortable as well! The neighborhood surrounding this hotel is very cute--lots of boutique shops and restaurants to try. It's also right by a metro stop. So it's a good place to stay if you want a fun neighborhood that isn't too touristy and you also want easy access to the rest of town. Also, the front desk people were very helpful, providing directions, letting me check […] things on the computer, and also exchanging my money for me. And the room itself is very nice--it has a kitchenette (which I did not expect), a big bathtub, and a cosmetics mirror in the bathroom. There are little touches, like toothbrushes provided in the bathroom, that really make the stay nice. The reasons that I'm not giving the hotel a higher rating is that it's not the cleanest--there was hair in the bathtub that I had to remove before taking a bath, and there was what appeared to be a blood stain (ew!) on my pillowcase. Also, the air conditioning is VERY loud, and there was no way to turn it off, and it woke me up all throughout the night. All in all, this is a good deal still, compared to other hotels in the rest of the town; but if you want an immaculately clean hotel and quiet room, this may not be the place for you. Read more

Our little Hotel Kutuma was perfect. I could not have picked a better location for us to explore the city. The Kutuma might not be everyone’s cup of tea (no elevator, our room was **very** snug, and located right above a very aromatic restaurant) but for us, it’s exactly what we look for when we travel. Our room had a small but fully equipped kitchenette […] and was super clean, fully and freshly updated, exotically decorated, and pretty damned cute. The kitchenette turned out to be a wonderful feature in a town where there are so many great food markets. The hotel is also right at the southern end of the liveliest and most interesting stretch of St-Denis. The staff is very low key (the “reception desk” is the hostess station for the Blue Nile restaurant) but they were always extremely helpful and accommodating. If you are someone would appreciate being just steps away from the best restaurants and bars in the Plateau, do not need the usual amenities of a traditional hotel, and like to experience something a little different, you might want to check out the Kutuma. Interestingly, I found the best deal for rooms through Hotels.com rather than going through the hotel directly. I thought that what we paid was very good value. We never did try the Blue Nile, but it was always busy and the smells were quite enticing. Read more

Staying at the Hotel Kutuma was a really nice experience. This is not a large hotel, or a chain hotel. The decor is a little quirky, and other than valet parking and a clean, spacious, and well-appointed room there are limited services due to the small size of the hotel. I have stayed in dozens of hotels in Montreal, of all sizes and ratings. I was extremely satisfied with the Kutuma. I arrived very late, and the staff were unusually welcoming and pleasant. They had upgraded me to a higher class of room without my asking, because it was empty. Our room had a full-on kitchen that seemed unnecessary, especially in a city teeming with wonderful restaurants that you'd want to try. Hotel Kutuma is in a great neighborhood - walking distance from lots of fun shops and cafes. Montreal also has a Bixi Bike program where for just $5 a day you can rent a three-speed bike with a basket. You can ride it anywhere and drop it off somewhere else (there are racks of bikes all over the city.) There is really no need to deal with a car in this city. Read more

I chose the hotel because there were so many nice reviews about it, but I regret that. Don't get me wrong, there are some nice stuff about this hotel, but not enough for me to go back again on a business trip. First of all, you cannot expect great hotel service in a 9 rooms hotel. The valet is the same person that welcomes you and is the same person […] who serves you breakfast, and does your check out etc ... The fact that there is no parking in the hotel, the valet needs 5 to 10 minutes to go get your car, so meanwhile who attends other guests ? my valet was obviously a newbie but did not admit it. At 8:30 a.m I went to have breakfast and sat by the window, and saw my rented car on the street with a ticket on it. I never asked him to get my car from the parking ! He did not even know that it was forbidden to park there. He promised he will take care of the ticket, but I cannot guarantee that he will, I cannot guarantee he told his manager, etc ... He explained that usually guests leave early and need their car quite early. no comment ! Checking out took ages. he could not print an invoice that I needed for my expenses. He created one from scratch, and had to ask me how much I paid for the room ! Breakfast is great value, $9.50 for a nicely filled plate with omelette, sausage, fruits, croissants and vegetables and juice/coffee. However, breakfast is not served before 8:30 a.m. huh ? We love, love, loved the Hotel Kutuma. The location, right on St. Denis Blvd. is perfect--great restaurants, great shopping and close to the Metro. The rooms are comfortable and very European with an Ethiopian twist. The room included a full kitchenette complete with an expresso maker and nice table settings on the little bistro table net to the patio. […] The bath is deep and luxurious. The bed is comfortable and there is a flat screen TV on the wall. The Ethiopian restaurant downstairs is fantastic and they serve a mean French but hearty breakfast (Great coffee and croissants, but also eggs and fruit and a variety of breakfast meats).
