"Nice place to stay for the price in Tokyo"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 6, 2012
Good location for Ueno shopping and if you have a pasmo card the sky's the limit!
"Better than expected!"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
I booked this hotel because it was the cheapest hotel I could find that was close to Roppongi and Shibuya. I did not have high expectations, but the bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was very clean! Its small and cozy. The subway stations were about a 10 minute walk. Theres really no sights or good resturants very close in walking distance. The hotel staff was nice. They have great vending machines and a cheap washer/dryer. I would definitely recommend this hotel since hotels can get very expensive in Tokyu. This one was a good price!

Very well located, clean, but the room size was unpleasant for two persons.
"Perfect in every way!"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 4, 2012
This hotel is pretty much as good as it gets. Lovely rooms, great staff, convenient location. 2 lines of the metro are steps away from the hotel lobby, in the basement. If you stay on the side that faces the Diet building you get an amazing view of the rising sun every morning. And it IS red! Who knew? The hotel is located in Akasaka, which is a buisinessy type district. It's not super crazy like Shibuya but it's full of bars and ramen places and we loved eating there every night after a full day of walking around Tokyo. It's fairly Gaijin friendly as well; we only had one experience where we had trouble ordering, and that was on Sunday evening when the only places that were open seemed to be Korean. My only complaint is very petty: instant coffee. The room provides an electric kettle and tea...and instant coffee. Other than that, this was an incredible hotel and we got a great deal on hotels.com!

This sprawling business, commercial, and entertainment center never lets up. It is a modern Japanese phenomenon with shopping arcades, flashing neon signs, stand-up noodle bars, and side-street video screens. Some two million people pass through the train station alone. Futuristic-looking City Hall offers a free observation deck with great city views.

"Great Hotel for the price"
Overall the Hotel was great, probably the best bang for your buck, few things that you should keep in mind, rooms are very small about the size of a room on a cruise, which is normal for Japan, you must have a room key inside this slot (in your room) to activate the appliances and bathroom light, rooms have no insulation so sound passes through very […] easily, pillows are weird (made out of little beads, my friend calls it a poor mans memory foam) but not that bad. Location is pretty good about a 5-10 minute walk from the Shinjuku station, (exit the South exit from Shinjuku station it was the quickest way to the hotel if you go in between buildings) ..........Trains stop at midnight in Japan and Taxis are very expensive. "Great hotel for the price"
Hotel is about 5-6 blocks from the metro and located in a nice area near many shops and restaurants. It's a pretty large hotel with several restaurants inside the hotel, also has a foreign check in desk where the staff speak English and helped us schedule a couple of tours (not included in the price). If travelling by metro, Shinjuku is a large and […] busy station so be sure to exitthecorrect exit. Read more

"Good value"
Couln't ask more for the hotel
"good deal for the price"
small room but that's to be expected. very convenient to shinjuku station. super friendly staff. my only complaint is that the air conditioning wasn't working.
"Easy, and good for English Speakers"
The staff was ready to handle English only speakers, with an Information Desk just for foreigners. Free WiFi in the lobby, and a cheap and fast PC available if you don't have your own. Good for first timers and families. OH, and there is an underground passage all the way to Shinjuku station if it is cold outside.

convenient location, transportation to the airport, I am satisfied.

"Dirty walls and Moldy windows"
Soon as we got to the hotel it looked all good and updated, well little did we know how tiny and dirty the rooms were. 1st room we got had brown stuff on the walls near the bed. The 1 tiny window in the room had mold around them from condesation. The condensation was so heavy that u cant even see out the window. we immediately go down to change rooms, […] they switch us 1 room over, We spent 1 night in the room, the size was small but we can bear with size, its just cleanliness that was the issue, After spending 1 night in the room I woke up sick with stuffy nose and cough. After looking at the dusty air vents and how much mold was really around the window I did not feel comfortable laying my head down and breathing mold. It is literally right above our head. I am here for vacation not to get sick. This was the 2nd hotel we've been in since we got to Japan. the 1st hotel was in Kawasaki and it was awsome, it was called the Sunroute Hotel. Sunroute was clean and friendly and we loved it. but WASHINGTON HOTEL is all talk, they were not willing to show us more rooms, they simply said the rooms are the same. and our only option was to upgrade. hmm more money, well due to me feeling sick I made them show me more rooms in the ANNEX building of Washington Hotel, after seeing 3 rooms we chose 1 wich was about twice the size and 2wice as clean as the previous room. This one had bigger windows and no mold. I have not felt sick in this room. I did have to pay more to upgrade but my health is priceless. I think since the hotel is so big its hard to keep it clean. I suggest staying at a smaller hotel chain like sunroute. There is actually a sunroute hotel up the street. Had I known this then I would have stayed there. I am 6foot2 and the first room was not cutting it at all. My feet hang off the bed in both rooms. I would have to ask my wive to move out of the way so I can squeeze by, it was literally 4 walls and a bed, I could scretch out and touch all 4 walls at once if I wanted. Read more
"Suitable only for certain types of travel."
I should have suspected something was odd when all of my Japanese friends seemed to cringe when I told them I was staying at this hotel. I think this is some type of singles-only hotel? If you're going on a short, business-related trip, this hotel would be ok. It is fairly close to everything in Shinjuku (but be warned that the "short walk" to the JR […] Shinjuku Station is a little longer than they tell you). But, fair warning that if you are traveling alone (females especially), you may want to consider another option. Although there are "English-speaking" staff, they had a hard time understanding my questions when I tried to report the drunk man who was passed out in the hallway of my floor. This happened 2 times during my 5 night stay. I tried to upgrade to a better room, for safety purposes - there were some unsavory characters hanging out in the hallway, and foreign travelers who were up all night and were very, very loud. These walls were paper thin, and you can hear EVERYTHING in the rooms next to you and if anyone is even tip toeing in the hallway. The elevators were constantly broken or full. It seriously took me 20 minutes one morning to get from the 11th floor to the lobby (there is more than one, confusing) and only 2 elevators kept opening up. If I could have found the stairway, I would have gladly taken it. The housekeeping staff were very friendly and hard working, but the condition of the rooms in general were poor (probably better on renovated floors, but they don't seem to give those to visitors). There was a very strange smell in the carpet and bed covering. Normally, Japanese hotels provide some spray sanitizer/air freshener in the rooms, but this one did not. This is a typical "overnight" business hotel, with a lot of intoxicated businessmen loitering in the halls and various lobbies until late, late at night. I had a few cat call me on my way into the elevator. I expected a lot more from reading their website before I booked the rooms. I was so co Read more

Great location, however small room... Hotel guest service could be better...
"I was in the HELL!!!!!!"
At the front desk! It was really BAD service even I would ask"Are you really working at this hotel"what a shame!! I still upset when I remind the night!! BAD BAD BAD HOTEL! PLease Dont stay there!
"It's ok but..."
This hotel is okay... But don't plan on getting a good sleep or staying in your room for more than you need to... Very small, bed is uncomfortable, pillows flat, gotta step up to go to bathroom... Even though had a double room for two, meant for ONE unless your very tiny and under 5ft tall... Weekend staff not as friendly as weekday staff...

"Great and convenient location"
The rooms are a typical Japanese sized rooms, so don't expect much from it. However, I had no plans to spend much time at the hotel, but something happened that caused me to spend more hours than expected. My husband misplaced his phone on the bus from the airport. The hotel staff was nice enough to look for the lost and found and the English was decent […] enough (certainly better than my Japanese, although I knew enough to ask for "missing karu keitai (black mobile phone)" There were plenty of restaurants and a nearly convenience store, but most importantly the underground access to Shinjuku station. My only disappointment was the lack of wifi access in the annex building, although I was able to find wifi in the main building. Read more
"Excellent Tokyo Hotel!"
Although the room was a little small, I cannot complain about this hotel. It was located in an excellent location, close to the subway and many sites in Shinjuku. The room was reliably cleaned, and the staff were willing to answer questions. I enjoyed staying here and would definitely stay here again when I return to Tokyo.
"Great, clean, convenient!"
Hotel Annex is a bit hard to find the first time, but room was very comfortable and location is great! Close to train, close to Lost in Translation sights.
"unexpected kindness"
I always stay at this hotel with its super tiny rooms. Close to my friends; basement access to Shinjuku station; frequent airport limousine bus. One night I arrive back at hotel with a friend at around 2am and found 2 other guests passed out next to the front door (a little too much drinking). We asked staff for help and they brought wheel chair and […] towels! Honestly I was a bit afraid they would call police but staff was very kind and considerate! Read more

"Just OK"
I chose this hotel specifically because it was affordable and the Limousine Bus drops and pick up here to and from the airport. It also states that there is an underground walkway to the subway station. The room was a little to small for me. I am 5'7" and could not extend my arms all the way in the bathroom. I only had one large suitcase which I had […] to rearrange the furniture to have it fit. Rooms are typically small in Tokyo but next time I will pay a little more to have a bigger room. Regarding the underground walkway, it is quite a long walk to get to the subway station. I found a 100 yen bus in front of the hotel that takes you to the station. Read more
"Easy to get there and away"
The limobus from Narita airport drops you off right at this hotel. We did this on our first night so we wouldn't have to navigate the trains right away. There are a selection of restaurants in the same building as well as a convenience store, which is great. It's a block to the metropolitan offices with their great observation floors. A 5-10 minute […] walk will get you to Shinjuku station which has metro, trains and many buses. There are nice gardens nearby as well as restaurants and shops. The rooms are very small, mostly just a bed and desk, but they serve their purpose if you're just sleeping there. Staff are friendly and will hold your bags after you checkout. Read more

"in the middle of tokyo"
Great location. nice restaurants and shops around the hotel.
"Just OK"
I would give this hotel 2.5 stars. My single room was tiny, had no view, and had a frosted window [that did not open] in any event. With my carry-on-size bag on the floor, it was hard to move around. There are very few rooms that are nonsmoking, and all are on floors in the lower half of the building. The location is a bit of a walk from Shinjuku Station […] and there is not much to do in the immediate area. It was just OK; I would stay somewhere more central in future. Read more
"All the essentials"
This hotel is in a great location. Close to shinjuku station and Tochomae where with Toei Oedo line splits to its upper and lower routes. It has all the essentials, perfectly clean like all Japanese hotels. Super tiny but if you are in Tokyo you should not stay in your room too much.

"Great Location```Airport Shuttlebus access"
For the money I paid, I think it is a good deal for its convenience. The underground aisle connect to Shinjuku subway station and JR station directly. There are two convenience stores inside the hotel where you can buy drinks or food. You can take the Narita airport shuttlebus just outside the main entrance. The negative impression was that the hotel […] room is too small and in bad condition. The wallpaper was scratched and the toilet should be replaced early. It is no doubt that the hotel room is clean enough. But as a three star hotel, I think Shinjuku Washington Hotel can do better. Read more

"Near Shinjuku, but better options open available!"
Overall, Shinjuku Washington (SW) is an affordable option near the very busy Shinjuku Station. However, it's probably worth it to spend a few more dollars and stay at a nicer hotel. Location-wise, SW is in the business part of Western Shinjuku just south of the Tokyo Metropolitan Gov't Buildings. It is directly accessible by underground passages to […] the Shinjuku station but this walk takes about five minutes longer (about 15 min total) and is much less interesting than the above ground walk although I guess it would come in handy during a heavy downpour. Although in a quiet location, the west side of Shinjuku is much less interesting than the other side of the tracks. We stayed near Kabukicho later in our trip and enjoyed this part much more. While there are a few restaurants and stores near SW, it is simply not nearly as exciting as the craziness that is Shinjuku. The building itself is a unique architectural piece with small evenly spaced windows and a smooth curvilinear exterior, but remember that these tiny windows will be the only natural light into your room, for us a big negative. The actual hotel does not start until the third floor and it was rather unclear upon entering the building as to where the front desk was as the signage was not great (turns out it's on the third floor!). There are restaurants and a pachinko parlor in the building but we did not try these out. In regards to our room, we were initially excited that we were on the 19th floor in that we might have some nice views, but those hopes were dashed when we reached our room. It was a decent sized room for Tokyo (i.e. space for two twin beds pushed together and a small bathroom and just enough room on the sides to put our suitcases), but the condition was the bummer. The bed was ok, but the remainder of the fixtures were straight out of the 70s, with a main "control panel" into which you could insert your keycard to get power. It was unbearably hot when we arrived and found that we could not Read more
"washington shinjuku hotel"
The hotel was a lot closer to Shinjuku Station than the reviews stated. Underground walkway was great when it was really cold outside. Room at the hotel was sometimes very warm even when it was very cold outside. Too bad the windows were so small and usually covered with dew.
"Shinjuku Washington - Great place to stay"
The staff is friendly , lots of option to choose from for resturants. Found the double bed too small compared to US/Europe standards.
"shinjuku hotel"
near the government building which had a post office with atm machine and also tourist information center....bed was too hard...room was too hot, however we got housekeeping to open our window as temperature is controlled by management....location however was great....lots of places to eat and 10-15 short walk to trains
"Affordable and good location"
I am from Philadelphia, PA and used this hotel for my first trip to Tokyo, Japan. I had the tripple room and I expected it to be tiny, but it was very comfortable. Nice bathroom, and great room service.
"Shinjuku Washington Hotel, near tokyo station"
This hotel was pretty convenient for those who like to walk. The tokyo station was about 15 min walk from tokyo station, can seem longer if you have lots of luggage. It was underground so it was good when it was raining outside. Convenient location for hotel pickup for airport limo and sunrise tours. The room was small, as expected in japan but good […] enough for myself and another. I wish the hotel had better tv channels. We were on the non-smoking side but you could still smell smoke in the hallways and elevator. Otherwise the stay was pretty good. Read more

"AWFUL rooms, beds feel like stone, mini bathrooms"
I've stayed at several hotels in the Shinjuku area and this is by far the WORST. My room had blood stains on the ceiling, a bathroom so small I could barely fit inside it, and beds that felt like bricks with a sheet on them. The pillows were also filled with plastic bean like material that felt awful. PLUS the air conditioning barely worked and we layed […] there sweating all night. It was an awful experience and luckily we switched hotels. DON'T STAY HERE! Read more
"Serves the purpose"
It's a clean place to stay in an expensive area. Our room was in the Annex building -- possibly because it was non-smoking? Desk clerks were a bit standoffish but I am guessing that many of the guests are drunk and/or overworked local businesspeople. Room was quite small but not unexpectedly so. Front desk agreed to hold our bags for a couple of hours, […] which was a big help. Walking distance to a Starbucks with (pay) wi-fi, and to the Odakyu mall, Shinjuku Station, Takashimaya, Sword Museum. Read more
"The Shinjuku Washington Hotel"
This hotel was a typical business hotel in Tokyo - it has all the basics and more, but the rooms are much, much smaller than most Americans are probably used to. The hotel staff was extremely helpful and responsive with everything from bringing more pillows and helping to set up internet in the room to assisting with maps and tours when needed. It […] was very convenient having a direct connection to the subway/train entrance under the hotel. And, it was also helpful to have a 24 hour convenience store right in the hotel as well. It was also nice to have coin washers and dryers available for use. Being connected to Shinjuku station made it easy to travel directly and easily to other parts of Tokyo and beyond. I would definitely reccommend this hotel for it's convenience, good rates and central location. Read more
"Location Location Location"
For the money you're paying you can't really complain. Not that there's anything to complain about. It's a 3 star hotel, after all. The staff is nice and will do their best to help. Your best bet is to go in person when you have a problem instead of calling them since their English isn't perfect...which is not the end of the world! If you need directions […] to any place in Tokyo area then the information desk will help you get there. Rooms are fine. Clean and "intimate". I mean are you planning to stay in the room that much when you're in Tokyo? I didn't think so. I am 100% ok with them not having a swimming pool or a fitness center It does the job, you sleep, you wake up and you go! There's a convenience store in the building open 24hrs for any thing that you might need, anytime. There's a fridge in room if you'd like to put anything there. You have to use TV to connect to the internet, I know sounds odd. There should be an English instruction sheet by the TV on how to get connected. If not then you can call them and ask for one! Also there are few restaurants in the building. I've tried their cafe "Bonjour" but it wasn't all that. There is a Japanese restaurant there. I went there one day and it was really good. No English menu and staff barely speaks it but there are pictures! I'm glad I took a chance with it. Read more

"Hotel Washington Shinjuku"
This was a nice, convenient and friendly hotel. The rooms are very small but we did not spend much time in the room. If you are going to do so I would recommend a hotel with larger rooms, but the price was right for us.
"Shinjuku Washington"
The hotel location is convenient and the rate reasonable. However, the room was small. The greatest disappointment was that there was no swimming pool for a hotel with almost 1300 rooms.

"Good value and location"
I first stayed in the Shinjuku Washington Hotel nearly 20 years ago. I was pleasantly surprised to find that many of the rooms have been rennovated in the past few years.
