Novotel Paris Gare Montparnasse - Paris

We had booked this Hotel for family of 4 which includes 2 kids. The room was small compared to hotel rooms in US. I am from Texas so used to big spaces, but I guess in Paris it is a constraint. Even though the Hotel is very close to Gare Montparnesse, my advice would be to walk to the next nearest station called Pastuer as the entrance of Gare Montparnesse, […] even though is near the hotel, by the time you get to the metro you would have spend close to 20 minutes and also please note these metro don't have any escaltors or lifts so we had a baby stroller and it was not fun. Lot of good resturants nearby. The metro frequency and connectivity are excellant so this hotel should be good enough. The personnel at the Hotel spoke English which made it better as not lot of people speak English in Paris. For the money we paid, I think it was a good deal. Read more

Excellent location. Just 3 minutes to the Subway station. Just 5 stations to Eiffel tower. We had two queen size beds for 4 people. Very spacious room- As big as Americn hotel rooms. We stayed overnight at Novotel Paris Gare Montparnasse as we had a train to take the next day. The hotel was right beside the station. Perfect to just drag our luggage across. This hotel is right across the street from Gare Montparnasse, but quite a distance by foot from the entrance to the train station--and even further away from the Montparnasse Bienvenue Metro stop. But if you head down Rue de l'Amourique and take a left, the Pasteur station is about 3 blocks away, all downhill. The Gaite Metro station is about as far, […] although in the other direction. The #91 bus will drop you off very near the hotel, and you can catch it by walking down Rue de l'Amourique and heading right, crossing Pasteur Boulevard. The room had a bed big enough for 2 adults, plus a sofa sleeper that folds out to sleep 2 kids. With the sofa extended, there wasn't a lot of room to move around, but we managed. The TV gets several broadcast channels and various news and sports cable channels (including the English-language France24 and CNN International). WiFi is free but you need a PIN code and can only use one device at a time. (Or you can browse the Internet through the TV with a provided keyboard for 10 Euros a day.) There are two Macs in the lobby you can use for 20 minutes, along with an XBox 360 for the kids. Our room had a toilet right by the door to the corridor, but the sink, shower and bathtub were in another room that was bit hard to access because of the way the door swung. But the shower was reasonably roomy with lots of hot water at high pressure. A small minibar facilitated keeping drinks and small amounts of food cold. We saw lots of families staying here. The hotel was not too close to the metro station (sort of between the big transfer station - Montparnasse & Pasteur). The hotel was clean & staff were nice! You get a complimentary bottled water (both flat & gas) and coffee/tea in the room. Room is a little cramped when you pull out the couch beds to sleep, but it was nice to find a place that slept 4. I think I like having the toilet & sink closer together. A/C didn't really work that great (said it went down to 5 degrees Celcius, but it sort of stayed the same in the room). We just opened the window. Others in our group had similar temps in their rooms, too. We just happened to get there on a rainy day & it was kind of humid outside, not cold. We ordered a shuttled for the airport through the hotel & it didn't show, so the hotel picked up the tab for the taxi. That was very nice they did that for us. I think that shows real class!! Hotel was very modern and exceptionally clean. Bathroom was designed differently, compared to American standards, but it wasn't really a big deal. Staff was very, very friendly and everyone spoke English too, so very helpful if you don't speak any French. I would definitely stay there again, and recommend to others.

The best thing about the Novotel Paris Gare Montparnasse was its location.....we tried to take a taxi from the train station but the driver said it's right there! It was indeed about a block away! There was a bus stop across the street also and the neighborhood was nice. The price was a bit high, but that is Paris!

Good for the money. Stayed for 9 days during Xmas with our 11 year old twins. The room was kind of small for the 4 of us but it was convenient given the fact that we did not want to spend a bundle. A little far from all main attractions but close to the metro with lots of dinning choices nearby. We walked from the hotel to the Eiffel Tower, Louvre and […] Ile de la Cite. We even walked from the hotel all the way to Sacre Coeure. After all, we wanted to see and feel Paris at a slow pace. The neighborhoods around the hotel and the main attractions were safe. Breakfast was excellent at the hotel's restaurant for 16 euro/adult and free for kids. Employees were kind and helpful. WORD OF CAUTION: We encountered people trying to 'help' us get our Metro tickets. One guy offered us 'cheap' metro tickets to our destination for 36 euros when the trip was really worth only 6.50. If you don't feel confident using the ticket vending machine , buy your tickets only from the official booth. Watch...they are tricky cunning and persistent. Read more

The front desk staff was very kind although when we weren't able to sleep well due to the heat, and after turning off all temperature controls at their suggestion, they said they would send maintenance to look. Later in the day when we asked if someone had, they were very vague about it. Regardless, we did not sleep well even one night as it was so […] hot. We had to leave the window open which made for lots of noise from the street. The hotel has a written policy that if we aren't satisfied and they can't fix it, we won't pay. every morning, we discussed the heat. Every day they suggested something that didn't change anything. The last night (of 4) they offered to move us but we were completely unpacked and exhausted so we declined. They did give us one night to stay in the future which we might use if the time is unlimited. But we did have to pay......so much for the written policy. The room was comfortable for 3 people and the bathrooms were clean and well equipped. On our second day there, we came back from sightseeing at 3 pm and the room wasn't cleaned so we had to call the desk. At that point someone came quickly and cleaned while we sat in the hallway. It's really hard to do so much sight seeing without good sleep so we won't stay again and no, we wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Read more

The hotel was great and the breakfast though a little exspensive was well worth it. We had issues with approaching the hotel. The one way streets around it and getting to the parking garage was a bit tricky. We were only a short walk from the tube and it was easy to get around to everything. Modern and clean. We liked that it was away from tourist sights. We arrived at gare lyon train and took taxi to hotel(18 euros). Close to metro so it was easy to get around. Also we took the "les cars AF " bus to airport which was close to hotel and very convenient. First - this hotel is not in a convenient location as others would have you believe. While it is next to a train station, the nearest metro that takes you to the popular attractions is a 10 minute walk away. Second […] - the neighborhood this hotel is in is a bit shady. My wife and I were somewhat scared to walk home at night. Third - the service is not that good. When we checked in, they gave us a handicap room. This means the toilets are 12 inches or so higher than standard toilets. Imagine trying to balance yourself while your doing your thing. When we asked to change rooms, the front desk did it but with somewhat of an attitude. Fourth - the rooms are tiny. I was in the bath and asked my wife to get some water for me. Without getting off the bed, she can pass me the bottle while I'm in the tub. And the rooms are noisy. We have trouble sleeping because of traffic and noise coming from adjoining rooms. It's as if there's no sound insulation. Fifth - the linen they use is very poor quality. My wife and I are busy scratching ourselves constantly because the bed makes us itch. And don't even think about wearing dark colored clothes to sit or lie on the bed. You will get white lint all over your clothes. Finally - the internet connection keeps dropping out. This was a pain when we were looking up info such as bus routes or places to eat and keep having to reconnect. Read more
