Sun 'N Sand Lodge - Kings Beach

The location was perfect, right on the beach with a nice little bar/restaurant basically in the same driveway with outdoor seating and very nice. My daughter and I went for a little Mothers Day get away. When we first arrived a lady on second floor asked if we were staying and I indicated that yes for Mother's Day, she then told us about a room with […] a great view of the lake; you are on the beach so regardless you have a view; you are right on the beach. However, when we went in I asked the gentleman at the front desk who had a smile and was very nice and since it was not booked he put us in the room and told us to enjoy the view. I would definately recommend to the owner new carpet, paint, upgraded sheets, towels and comforter. Simple little things, and pick up the grounds around and behind the Lodge would make a world of difference and can't cost that much money. I would go back for a quick little get away esp. being a single mom and can't afford too much. :) Read more

There were multiple lights out in the hallways and stairwells. The manager said that he knew that the stairwell lights were out, but he could not fix the lights, as the owner wouldn't let him. I stayed at the motel on a President's day weekend night for a ski trip to Diamond Peak with my daughter. I had not expected too much for its price and Hotels.com's descriptions and I actually preferred a motel in Incline Village, but there was nothing else available at a reasonable rate for my last minute booking. It was actually even worse than my […] expectation. In addition to the uncleaned floor and stinky blankets, there was no soap, no shampoo, no tissue paper (bathroom tissue was available), no water cup, and NO HEATING! Guess how we spent the February night WITH A BROKEN ROOM HEATER in the Lake Tahoe area. Advertised free Wifi was not available, either. Parking lot was so small that I had to drive backwards all the way to a public road when checking out. I may wish to change my title to "No choice even when everything else is sold out." Read more

First review of hotel, ever. Just leaving a quick not to say that, the room was really not clean. :( For the price, the location is great (10mn from North star, literally right by the lake, tons of restaurants, bakeries around) and the staff really friendly. Expect nothing. Take your own towels & extra blankets. WiFi only works in rooms near the office. Hot tub is broken, no coffee maker. It was okay for us; we just needed an inexpensive room w/microwave and refrigerator for our ski trip. We had lots of hot water and a good shower. We're not picky, so it was okay. Management was friendly.

Right on the beach and close to nice restaurants. New management is very nice. However, the rooms need major improvement. Our sink backed up, so did not risk a shower in the morning. Curtain cords were broken and tangled. Back windows did not shut. Heater did not work. Because I know how cold Tahoe mornings get, I called to ask about the heater. I was […] told that they "don't turn them on this season;" although, the heater didn't look like it worked any season. The price of the room seemed high for what it was, except for its location. No heat or air conditioning, so had to leave windows open. Shower leaked all over bathroom floor. Room was clean when we arrived but was not cleaned while we were there (stayed 2 nights). In the description on hotel.com it stated that the bed were tempurpidic that was not the case went to check in room not ready check in at 2:00 pm they did clean the room by 2:30 manager went to double check then gave us the key to get in the first thing i noticed no toilet paper at all they said that the towels were getting washed and bring them up […] later they were very busy my husband went down around 4:30 and ask about the towels we were told they were in the drier and would bring them later never saw any towels bed hard as a rock we decided to leave early around 5:00 am we were on the 2nd floor no light at all in the stair way Read more

What a disappointment. Had I arrived earlier I would have left and found another hotel. The hotel has a great location and access to the beach ~ however the cleanliness of the room was VERY DISAPPOINTING! The room had 2 queen beds and the comforters on BOTH beds were severely stained and didn't look like they have been washed in ages. I pulled them […] off the beds and threw them on the floor. After turning down the bed ~ there were stains on the sheets as well. I slept on TOP of a questionable spare blanket that was in the room and didn't take off my shoes at all because the carpet was filthy. Oh ~ and a prior guest left a granola bar for me ~ How sweet is that! When I woke up and went to take a shower I panicked as there was NO HOT WATER. After calling the office from my cell phone because the phone in the room didn't work ~ the manager adjusted the timer on the hot water heater. Good news was ~ they eventually had really hot water. As I was leaving I overheard 2 girls (as they were standing on the balcony) saying that the view was why people stayed at this place. After talking to them ~ they had the same experience as I did. They slept in their clothes on top of the sheets as well. A friend ironically booked the same hotel ~ his carpet was newer and no visible stains on his bedspread. Lucky him! Read more

I had no cell service in which to check my email...so, I paid AGAIN. I then got key cards that didn't work. The Sun 'n Sand Lodge is right on the beach between a great coffee shop and restaurant. Bed was tiny and hard but the place was ok considering where it was located. You could see right in the bathroom through a clear pane of glass so we had to hang a coat in front of the window.

The hotel is close to the beach, but it is badly run down. It needs a good painting, the carpets need to be steam cleaned, if not replaced. The walls are thin and if there are kids upstairs it sounds like a herd of elephants, just people walking shakes the walls. Kings Beach itself is not much better.
