We had a very nice stay after going to a wedding. The hotel was clean and the staff was friendly and courteous. We really liked some things about this hotel, but we were on a floor that was half smoking and half non-smoking rooms. The corridor and elevator absolutely REEKED of cigarette smoke and it seeped into our non-smoking room as well. (When is Massachusetts going to get around to banning smoking in hotels???) The hotel staff could not have been friendlier, and tried to help us. The hotel is old, and well maintained except that it smells. The corridors reek of air freshener - some kind of fruit scent and you can tell that there is some other odor underneath that. Our room had a strong cigarette smoke smell, we had booked a non-smoking room, but none were […] available. The hotel staff brought us an air freshener for the room which helped mask the smell.Cleanliness - there were cigarette ashes on the floor of the room, and when we pulled back the throw on the bed coins fell on the floor. The first part is not the hotel's fault. I guess it was my fault not seeing the room is for smoking. The smell in the room was terrible. Yet even if we had chosen a non-smoking room, the smoking smell level in the hall way would not be acceptable anyway. My fiancé and I were not satisfied at all on the night we checked in @ the hotel. "Outdated and Unclean"
The pool was so over-chlorinated that we had to prop the doors to keep from choking. The breakfast was of such abysmal quality that we stopped at Dunkin Donuts after checking out. My boyfriend and I stayed here for three nights and I was so scared when I booked the inn because it was 2 and half stars. I was pleasantly surprised that it was nice and clean! "Stay here ONLY if you smoke or on 1st / 2nd floors"
We arrived late (9:30 pm) on a busy weekend. The only rooms were on the third floor where half the rooms are smoking. (The first and second floors are entirely non-smoking.) The elevator and hallway reeked of smoke and the smoke smell came under the door of our non-smoking room all night. To make maters worse, because they were oversold they "upgraded" […] us to a king/sofa bed suite and didn't have the two queen room we specifically wanted. When we opened the sofa bed, the sheet on it was obviously dirty, so we had to go find clean sheets and a blanket from the front desk. On the plus side, the front desk clerk was very nice (under the circumstances), breakfast was better than expected, and the room was large. Would we stay here again? Probably not. But because the price was good, we might possibly return but only if we could be absolutely guaranteed a room on the first or second floors and we knew we would arrive early enough in the day to insist on our two queen room.
