Loved everything about this hotel. A block away from Bayswater and an easy walk to the Portobello Market in Notting Hill. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We were upgraded to the club room which had a heated floor, rain shower, in-room safe, comfy bed and flat screen tv! There was free fresh fruit every day. The hotel is located in a great location. Lots of options for bars, shops and very close to Hyde Park. The subway station is less than five minutes and makes stops at all the main stations to main attraction. However the room was very small. I've stayed in many hotels and this is by far the smallest hotel I statyed in. This was a rip-off. I ordered Deluxe Queen Room from Expedia. Instead they gave me a tiny room with a twin bed. No place to hang your coats, not way to bypass your suitcase standing in the middle of the room. They ignore your complains knowing that you have no other choice but staying where you booked.

Crisp and clean room--obviously small in size since it is in the UK, and not what typical gun toting, six lane, diesel truck, super-size everything-Walmart -Americans expect. The Shaftesbury has a great lobby and the desk staff are very friendly so it makes a good first impression. The problems start when you go to your room. My room was the smallest I've ever seen (even comparing to Paris and New York) and its furniture was stylish but uncomfortable. I had so little room that the only place I could put my suitcase blocked […] my access to the door. The room was also up a flight of stairs from the elevator, so I was very glad I didn't have heavy luggage. The free internet was more off than on and was so slow when it worked at all as to be unusable. The television in the room didn't work. Location within 1 block of a tube stop is a plus, but the neighborhood is all hotels, so there are better options. Overall a poor value. Read more

Wonderful experience. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. Room is very clean and comfortable. Only 3 blocks from Queensway on the Central line, and 1 block from Bayswater on District and Circle lines. Notting Hill is a 10 minute walk and the hotel is 2 blocks from Hyde Park. I got this on a hidden deal as a 4 star accomodation. Even though not a 4 star, the rooms were very good and well maintained as far as the cleanliness is concerned. Plus its quite modern as far as the bathroom facilities are concerned and It was value for money since I got a good bargain for the price I Paid.

The hotel is located in a Victorian house near to Bayswater Underground Station in Central London which is great. That about where the good stuff ends. The Front Desk Staff was not friendly nor aggressive, sort of "If I do my job, you will get out here soon". The halls are rather narrow and with several steps up and down. Carrying your luggage is a […] bit of an issue. Then, you get to your room and surprise! you cannot get through without having to consciously evade the desk that occupies more than half the doorway. If you think of getting a shower, get ready to practice some yoga 'cause there is no way any normal size human being can wash itself there without being a yogi. Once you finally managed to get yourself cleaned up and get ready to go to bed the final touch comes in: The bed reeks, a disgusting smell that will keep you up. The elevator was broken and it was not fixed during our entire stay and climbing up 4 floors was a pain. I stay at the Bayswater-Paddington area near Hyde Park several times each year, and have tried half a dozen hotels there. The International is one of the nicest, and certainly the nicest at its price. The room is average size. Everything works though - including hot water, and the heater/air conditioner. Decor is both new, and modern in styling. The […] staff is friendly, although I hardly even need to interact with them. Check-in and check-out are very fast. The hotel is within walking easy walking distance to both Bayswater and Queensway stations, so lots of train options for access. Paddington (the fastest way to Heathrow airport) is a long walk away, but you can always take the tube one stop to Bayswater instead. The area between Queensway and Bayswater is full of restaurants and stores. Lots of small hotels nearby, so tourists are plentiful along with the shops that serve them. Head just 2 blocks in away from Queensway street though, and you get to some more typical London neighborhoods with their pubs and restaurants. Hyde Park is just a block or two away. Read more

Minuscule room - 1 foot from one side of the bed to the wall. Two from the other side to the bathroom. Bathroom also very small. The "working table" was in the corridor that has a width of two feet. If you love claustrophobia, book the hotel!

Service was excellent, it was extremely good value. Rooms are small, although we had a free upgrade to 'Club' for one of the rooms. There was a small crack in one of the windows in the small room, and I found the bed in our room a bit short although at 6 foot 2 I do find that with most hotel beds. Convenient location by Hyde Park close to both Circle […] and District and Central Lines. Breakfast not included but that suited us as we had to leave early. I was worried about the size of the room before I went having read other's reviews but I have to say if my room is typical of them all then I have no idea what anyone has been complaining about, the room was great, plenty of room, storage and good sized bathroom. Unfortunately […] the hotel is next door to what seems to be a youth hostel and my room was next door to this and the noise one night was constant all through the night of doors banging and people running up and down stairs, not good for me as I was there for business and so was getting up at 6.30 and going to work. Also, the 'fitness centre' is the worst I have seen anywhere in London, 1 very ancient treadmill and a dubious cross trainer that wobbles and so I didn't use it, no windows and poor air conditioning in there, it also doesn't open till 9am so if this is important to you on choosing then go somewhere else. Overall if I wasn't bothered about having the gym then I would certainly go back here but would make sure to request a room that was on the side of the hotel not next to the youth hostel. Read more

Delighted with my ten night stay so far, rooms are small but quiet and I will be returning in a few weeks. Very clean and staff are great. Company taxi/car is always around the corner to take you to wherever you need to go and the train is less than a minutes walk.

perhaps i am just used to american hotels, but this place was TINY. i feel that i've seen closets bigger than this room. i also wasnt aware that "queen" in the UK meant a US "full/double." aside from that, everything was fine. staff was friendly, everything was clean, and getting there from the tubes was cake. price was decent, as well.
