The hotel is nice enough. We had a "no smoking" room, but someone had clearly smoked in the room and in the bathroom in particular. And the staff were not particularly helpful. But it is on a quiet street, and the area is great.

Nice hotel, big rooms, great location and the staff was friendly enough. I got a basement unit. Not my favorite, but it was fine. Would have asked not to have one if I knew. It also looked like some kind of hostel floor with shared bathrooms.

Overall a very good value well located in the British Museum area, excellent bed and bathroom, spacious (for London) rooms, quiet street. The bar / lobby could be a bit more welcoming, but there are enough cosy pubs close by to make this a non-issue. Very friendly and helpful staff.

We enjoyed staying in the Bloomsbury neighborhood. Quiet, but only 15 minutes by bus from Trafalgar Square and the Thames. Few amenities in the hotel, but rooms are clean and comfortable. Only annoying feature was quite expensive (L10/day) internet service.

Nice hotel, but not spectacular. Our room was exceptionally large by London standards, and the hotel was well maintained. The restaurant was only open for breakfast, and there was no real bar to speak of. Beware the breakfast though - if you don't get it included in your rate, it costs 17 pounds for the continental and 23 pounds for the full English […] breakfast, which is kind of ridiculous (it's a short walk to any number of places you can get breakfast for 6-7 pounds, so no worries). The hotel is right around the corner from the British Museum, and it's a five-minute walk to Russell Square tube station. The staff was helpful and friendly - and always had an umbrella to offer - which is hugely important in rainy London. A very nice place to stay. Read more

Hotel was serviceable and functional if you are out and about most of the day. Hotels.com said that breakfast was included in the price but it was not. Please be sure to check this thoroughly beforehand as their breakfast is quite expensive.

This hotel has a great location, but the deal that I've got - a really great price for a supposedly 4-star hotel - turned out to be a disappointment. I The room was nice and clean but the service was nowhere close to the 4-star level. The TV set did not work and was not fixed even after I complained to the front desk. When I returned late at night, […] the lift didn't work either, although at least it was fixed by the next morning. They are overly cautious about security - the entrance door is permanently locked and the only way to enter the hotel lobby is by ringing the bell to the reception. The most shocking thing was the attitude of the night receptionist: after letting me in, he asked for my room number and then said "let me check", even though I already had a room key. I couldn't believe my ears, I do not look particularly young or suspicious, and it was the first time in my 20+ years of international travel that somebody questioned if I really stayed in the hotel. Rooms were crazy warm. Sweating the while time there. I know the lack of AC may be listed (or not as such), but crazy in today's day and age. Location was convenient and in general, the desk staff were friendly. When I asked to move and cancel remained of reservation, again, the fine print made this cost prohibitive. The hotel was centric but the room was very uncomfortable and the temperature in the room was HOT all the time. They did not have A/C or at least a fan. When you look at the hotel, a great deals of windows where open all the time. I also had to wait 3 hours for a room because the cleaning team was short in staff and they where delayed.

My experience might have been different had I not been put in a basement room, with only one window that opened (onto an open tool shed, very messy), and the street, during a London heat wave. Impossible to sleep or be comfortable.And the idea of a 17 pound continental breakfast is obscene.A ridiculous hotel.

While the staff were very nice, the room was quite dirty (carpet must have been 20 years old, and I couldn't count the number of, ah, hairs, on my sheets on a daily basis.) I ended up with a terrible rash. The room was also very, very small. I could barely walk around the bed.

My husband and I stayed at the CLarendon for one night in January 2012. We were warmly greeted at check in and given a free upgrade to a deluxe room. Our upgraded room was enormous by London standards, sparkling clean, and beautifully furnished. The bathroom was a large black and white marble tiled room with a very big tub. The only detraction was that the bed was more firm than we generally prefer, so sleeping was a bit uncomfortable, and the windows do not block out the noise from the busy street below. We always travel with ear plugs, so the noise wasn't an issue for us. If you book this hotel just be aware of the firm bed and make sure to bring your ear plugs! Breakfast was not included in our rate and was very expensive, so I can't speak to the quality of their food. In general, this was an exceptionally lovely hotel and we would certainly stay here again if we found it for a good price again. Read more

The Clarendon is one of many "boutique hotels" in a whole block of hotels. It was very nice, and the staff was very kind to us. We had a toddler and they provided us with a "baby cot" (i.e., pack 'n' play) and a room upgrade, as the room we booked was way to small for the cot. The rooms were very nice! Recently stayed in a "family" room at the Clarendon Hotel - impressively large for a London hotel, with a king-sized bed and full-sized sleeper sofa and room to walk around; however, there was hardly any dresser/drawer place for clothes, just the closet and some bedside tables with small drawers. This is one of the Grange Hotel chain (they have several […] in a row on Bedford Place in Bloomsbury) - overall a step above many of the smaller hotels in the area, reasonably priced (especially considering how expensive London is these days) and a terrific location, but recommendation is tempered by the fact that they charged 10 pounds/day for wi-fi, breakfast was extra and absurdly expensive, 17.50 pounds for a Continental breakfast (don't bother, as there are lots of small and reasonably-priced places in the area), and it seemed nearly every other service came with a price. The Clarendon hotel is very close to British Museum and just few minutes walk from underground station. Our room was kind of small one, but clean and cozy. Breakfast was not included and was quite costly if you decide to have it in the hotel. It's a very good choice if you are in London for few days as a tourist and use the hotel just to sleep.

Everything was excellent: cleanliness, service, area, etc. But the rooms don't have A/C, so the top floor on the street side was unacceptable because of the heat & traffic noise. They moved us the next day to a lower floor on the garden side, and it was fine. We really liked the hotel and would go back, but maybe not in the middle of summer.

We initially we given a room on the basement level of the hotel. That room was extremely warm. After one night, we requested a new room. We received a new room on the 2nd floor that was cooler, quieter, and larger.

The hotel itself was okay. The bed was lovely and the room was clean, if a little small. The room description seems to be their best room. It was in no way related to the room I was in. I was expecting, as was quoted in the room description; a 194 square feet room with a fireplace. There was no fireplace, and the room was not even half that size. Travelodge/Premier […] Inn double rooms are bigger. The answer from the staff was that they can't control what Hotel.com puts on the site. Another slight annoyance was the shower. It would intermittently lose pressure (once to the point that there was none at all) and restart with a large kick and splutter or grainy, brown water. I only went for this place on the room description as it was 20GBP more than a nearby Travelodge and I thought I was getting luxury at a discount. I was wrong, save your 20GBP for afternoon tea at a fantabulous place nearby. Read more

Access to the room was apparently difficult due to computer problems and this persisted overnight. A member of staff had changed our room number on the registration but this had not actually occurred. At breakfast, I was challenged as to the validity of my husband and I taking breakfast. Clean, friendly hotel with polite and helpful staff. Very convenient location - buses within 10 mins walk to most central London destinations. Could have walked from Euston station - but chose to take 5 min bus journey. Easy walk to Covent Garden, Strand, Trafalgar Sq and money more places of interest. Will definitely use this hotel again.

I called the reception for room service, the guy who picked up the phone said he will send someone to my room to take my order !!! half an hour later I called again and a lady said she is sorry and took my order ! the room had too much noise from outside and inside starting from 6 am. I was upgraded to the sub basement room this was large but a little worn.Drinks making facilitys were diffucult to use in this room with the kettle in a box cabinet on the wall.Being underground you could feel the running of the trains nearby. Other customers were also a little loud.
