King Charles Boutique Hotel Residence - Prague

This is a charming hotel just off the touristy areas of Prague. Rooms are clean, spacious and beautifully decorated, and the beds comfortable. My girlfriend thought it was the most beautiful room she had ever stayed in. The staff - all fluent in Czech, English and Russian - are extremely kind and helpful. It is in a quiet, safe neighborhood only a short […] walk to a superb sight, the famous Vyshehrad Castle, which offers stunning views of Prague. The hotel is only a short walk to a tram which connects you pretty quickly to Prague's tourist sights. The hotel sells tram tickets which is most convenient, although one day they ran out of the cheapest tickets. Buying extra tickets to keep with you is a good idea. Getting around Prague is easy and inexpensive. Breakfast includes a wide selection of items and is very good, although they seemed to stress hard boiled eggs for their egg selection, the week we were there. A more frequent change of eggs would be good. There is plenty to eat. They'll pack you a sandwich, yogurt, apple and water if you have an early flight when you leave. There are two very good restaurants close to the hotel (we tried them both), and the hotel offers 10% discount coupons for them. Plus there are other bars and restaurants in the hotel's vicinity. And the hotel graciously offers you a shot of a famous Czech liquor, Becherovka, upon your arrival. With the very reasonable price this delightful hotel charges, staying here is a no brainer. Very good value, away from the hustle and bustle but within an easy walk along the river of old town. An above average breakfast for this style of hotel too. The hotel has an old world feel to it and the rooms are spacious. An excellent local restaurant and bar around the corner and the extraordinary old castle and Vyšehrad Cemetery a few minutes walk […] away. The painted interior of the cathedral is also stunning. My double bed was two singles pushed together, which was ok as I was travelling alone. I might not have been so happy with it otherwise. I had a lot of trouble with the wifi, which was annoying as I had a lot of work to do, eventually this was fixed by providing a LAN. This hotel is in a convenient location but the immediate surrounding neighborhood isnt' that exciting. The tram stop is just across the street and you can easily catch a tram to the main attractions in town. There is a convenience store by the tram stop that is open until 11 and has basic necessities that come in handy. The room wasy very comfortable but the cleaning staff didn't give us clean towels on the days we requested service - they actually just hung up 1 towel that had been on the floor and needed to be replaced. The area is mainly residential and not very appealing but there are some cheap bars close by for nice food and good beer. Pillows were a bit lumpy, but everything else was excellent. There were plenty of choices in the breakfast. The location of the hotel is excellent for Charles University, and using the excellent tram services very good for the rest of the city (they often sell tram tickets in the hotel and they will explain how to use them and where the trams go, and […] you can buy the tickets at any tobacconist, and even with coins from a machine at the tram stop). The front door of the hotel is more visible from some flags on the wall above the door than from any sign. The tram stop is less than 100 metres from the hotel front door. The river is only about 250 metres from the hotel, and there is a lovely walk to the Charles Bridge and the rest of Prague along the river front (just watch out for the bicycles on the 2 smooth strips running through the cobbles parallel to the water, and you can take some bread to feed the hundreds of swans you will see). There are some excellent, cheap restaurants on the hill behind the hotel, and there is a small marionette factory on a corner up the hill from the hotel that makes lovely (at least the ones that are not horrible witches/wizards or pot bellied old men with warts holding cigarettes and beer bottles - they are scary-funny, but not lovely), very reasonably priced puppets. The faces on the puppets are so real that they look like cartoons of someone you know. Read more

Never judge a book by its cover. At first appearance the outside of the hotel harks back to a bygone age of communism. It sits opposite a subway under the rail line into the city which leads to a very convenient tram stop straight into the heart of Prague. Our […] room was on the first floor & yes there are trains coming past but the double glazing is so efficient and the beds so comfortable that we barely noticed. The furniture is of a classical design, high ceilings & rich colours made you feel you are in central europe but with all the mod cons of a shower, spa bath, TV etc etc oh & free Wi Fi to the delight of my other half. The breakfast room was clean & Tidy with efficient friendly staff and a good selection of continental & English, for want of a better description, breakfast. A 10 minute walk from the river, 20 minutes into town or a 10 minute tram ride to the centre. The area felt very safe and had a good couple of restaurants close to the hotel should you wish to stroll out for dinner. The reception staff were always on hand, very helpful & had answers to everything we asked. Liana was One of the members of staff who first greeted us, booked us in, gave us a welcome drink of the local spirit & furnished us with all the information we needed. The 'reception' staff all speak good english and are very friendly and helpful. The one 'wake up' call we requested was exactly 'on time' at 07.30. Free 'WiFi' is available in the lobby area. The 'buffet-style' breakfast, which includes bacon, sausage, and fried eggs, as well as the usual 'continental' breakfast items of boiled eggs, cold meats, cheese, […] bread/toast etc. is available up to 10.00, which is good if you have been 'out late' or just fancy a bit of a 'lie in'. However, don't be surprised if some of the 'offerings' are in shorter supply as 10.00 approaches! The rooms are clean and comfortable, with TV (plus internet access and mini-bar at extra cost). The bathroom was 'spotless' and all the 'plumbing' worked. No problems at all obtaining hot water. There is a lift, but it only goes to a 'half-landing' between each floor so is not suitable for anyone with severe mobility problems who cannot manage just a few stairs. A main railway line runs past at the front of the hotel - our rooms have always been at the rear so I cannot comment on whether there is any noise from the trains in rooms at the front. The hotel is situated on the fringe of the city centre; it is just 2 tram stops into the city area. The nearest tram stop is "Albertov"; the stop for trams towards the city is about 100 metres from the hotel, that for trams from the city area about 200 metres. The trams are very frequent - routes 18 & 24 serve the city, route 7 turns off to run along the river bank before crossing to the opposite side. A regular service operates throughout the night for 'night owls'. Prague's public transport system is really excellent and a very good way to get around. Lots of information available on the internet about ticket types, prices, and how to obtain them. At the time of this visit a 'single' trip from the airport to the hotel by public transport takes about an hour and cost the equivalent of about £1 (Bus #119 airport bus station to "Devlicka", change to tram #20 or 26 Read more

Wir wurden sehr nett begrüßt. Das Zimmer war gut gereinigt. Leider war das Bett etwas schmal und wir hatten eine gemeinsame Matratze. Schlecht bei sehr unterschiedlichem Gewicht. Ausstattungstechnisch fehlten noch zwei Stühle oder Sessel. Dem Bad fehlte eine Dusche oder Duschvorrichtung. Das Frühstück war sehr britisch. In der Umgegend war keine Alternative […] zu finden. Die Anbindung durch die Tram zur Innenstadt und damit zu den Sehenswürdigkeiten war ausgezeichnet. In der Nähe des Hotels gab es leider nur wenige Restaurants. Wollte man vor dem Abendessen ruhen und duschen, mußte man daher den Weg in die Stadt zweimal erledigen. Abends konnte man nicht noch ein Weilchen im Hotel oder der Umgebung sitzen und einen Absacker nehmen.
