I was pleasantly surprised by the Executive House. I booked last minute and many places were full - so my expectations were not high. But the hotel was very centrally located. The room was clean, good sized, and well furnished. It had been updated, the linens and towels were good quality, and there was a full kitchenette. About the only complaint I had was that it's an older building with no AC. The room got a bit warm and night and we had to open the window and use a thoughtfully supplied fan. It was not too hot outside, so I can imagine it might be a bit stifling in the summertime.
Location.
Situated in Victoria, Helms Inn is close to Thunderbird Park, British Columbia Parliament Building, and Royal British Columbia Museum. Also nearby are Miniature World and Pacific Undersea Gardens.
Hotel Features.
In addition to a concierge desk and a library, Helms Inn features laundry facilities. Additional amenities include a garden, coffee in the lobby, and dry cleaning/laundry services. The front desk is open during limited hours. Guest parking is available on a limited first-come, first-served basis (surcharge). This is a smoke-free property.
Guestrooms.
The 48 air-conditioned guestrooms at Helms Inn include safes and coffee/tea makers. Rooms have wireless Internet access. Televisions are equipped with satellite channels and complimentary TV Internet access. All accommodations provide direct-dial phones with voice mail; free local calls are offered (restrictions may apply). Bathrooms offer shower/tub combinations, hair dryers, and complimentary toiletries.

"Gucky shower"
The location and price are great. Overall clean and adequate. Bot the shower drain was so clogged with hair deep down into the pipes that it wouldn't drain until I pulled all that gunky stuff out bit by bit with my hands. Not pleasant! Also, there is no counter space at all in the kitchen and bathroom. And no DVD player available. The only table is […] so narrow only one person can sit at a time without overlapping knees. "A Victoria gem!"
What a great hotel, with great staff, reasonable prices (cheap for downtown!), and handy tot downtown. Can't miss with this choice!
"Helm's two blocks from inner harbor"
The low price and very convenient location make Helm's Inn a good bargain. Amenities are mostly basic, but rooms (at least my room) include a full kitchen, and the front desk staff were very friendly. Parking cost extra.

This hotel is in a great location to the harbour and right across from Beacon Hill Park. The room was clean and spacious although the bathroom was small. Staff was courteous and helpful. Decor is dated, but I don't care.

I was very impressed with our room, they are much more appealing than the pictures--clean, spacious, and comfortable with a full kitchen. The staff was helpful and friendly. The location was very convenient. Couldn't ask for a better deal.

Pleasant simple inn, with available coffee in lobby. Kitchenette in room with full size refrigerator, coffee & tea to make in room. Clean, friendly. Excellent location; easy walk to harbor, city, Chinatown, etc. Excellent value, especially compared to neighboring motels & hotels. Does not serve breakfast.
Hotel was able to check me in very early, proving to be extremely accommodating on arrival.

This was our first trip to Canada and on the suggestion of a friend we changed our itinerary so we could spend more time in Victoria. Good decision! When we needed to stay two nights rather than one, Hotels.com accommodated the change without a problem. We originally had reservations at another facility but adding another day would have significantly […] increased the second day rate. The Hotels.com rep gave us the Helms Inn as a second choice and it worked out great. The exterior of the motel is quirky as the rooms are spread through three different buildings - all with different architecture and age. Our room was on the third floor of the Royale building at the end of the hall on the corner. Everything in the building had been remodeled - new paint, flooring and windows, granite counter tops, nice new kitchen. The staff was very helpful and the location - next to the Victoria Museum of Natural History and a half block from the Parliament building, the waterfront and Beacon Hill Park (do not neglect this amazing and beautiful attraction!) - was beyond reproach. If you are looking for value and comfort, this is the place to stay. Very convient to downtown Victoria. The hotel was very clean and although older, it has been remodeled nicely with all the amenities.

Great place offering large comfortable rooms with nice touches (little milks in fridge) at excellent prices and good location. Just a little too much traffic noise for me but usually OK with windows shut.

Bad - Old hotel / converted apartment building. Sqeaky floors, old small bathroom, cheap bed, noisy location next to major street, inadequate AC, limited insulation between floors and rooms. We were positively surprised how large our room was. It even had a kitchenette. The bathroom was a bit small but ok at all. As our room was located towards the street it was quite noisy while the window was open. So if this might be a problem for you ask for a room towards the courtyard. Older hotel in the process of remodeling. Great location, convenient to the harbor and across from a large park. Large room with updated bathroom. Would recommend for the budget conscious.
The Helms is a great place to stay. Your staff and location get highest marks. The hotel itself is old but it is kept in great condition, is charming and spacious and kept clean. Hotel is in a perfect location, all the front desk people were very nice, and the rooms are large and have kitchens in them. Only suggestions: It would have been nice to have a bit more counter space in the bathrooms and the shower curtains need to be changed out.

This hotel far exceeded my expectations. We were on the third floor but we packed light so we didn't mind not having an elevator to use. The room had a full kitchenette and separate living room. It was very roomy and clean. The wireless internet was also very helpful and there were some great dining guides available to help us find dinner. It is on one of the main roads that goes through Victoria so there is easy access to restaurants, shops, and bus stops. The hotel is also across the street from the northwest corner of Beacon Hill, unfortunately we did not have time for a stroll in the park though. From the Helms in it is just a walk across the street to enter Beacon HIll Park. It is just a half a block to catch the Big Red Bus to take you around town. It is a short cut through the parking lot and you're at the Royal BC Museum. Cross the street from the Museum and you're at the waterfront. "Great accomodations, great location, great value"
Loved the location. We took the ferry from Port Angeles, WA and the hotel was less than two blocks from the ferry. We did not take our car and we were within walking distance of all the Victoria sites. We took the Greyline tour to Buchart Gardents, the pickup spot which was in front of the Empress Hotel. The Helm's Inn is a very nice older hotel. The rooms were great (complete with a little kitchenette for hot tea anytime - important in the wetter cooler months of the year) and the service was very helpful. The best part of the hotel was its location being just blocks from the ferry and only a block or two from both the museum and the Empress Hotel/inner […] harbor. "Outstanding for the Money"
This hotel is in the perfect location. It is within walking distance of everything. The rooms are spaceous and comfortable. The only negative is the lack of an elevator. That means you may have to drag your bags up a couple floors. The building was origianlly designed as apartments. They are well decorated and very appealing. A great experience.

THE HOTEL IS ONLY A SHORT WALK TO THE INNER HARBOR , AND THE PARLIMENT BUILDING. THE ROOMS WERE NICELY REDECORATED FROM THE ORIGINAL SMALL APARTMENTS. THE ROOM INCLUDED A KITCHENETTE. GREAT VALUE!!

While the hotel is somewhat older it was very clean and well maintained. Only "issue" was the sliding closet door was off track ( we just slipped it back on ourselves, no big deal here). Great location in the center of victoria. We were on the third floor and didn't see an elevator. This hotel is convenient to the waterfront, BigBus Tour stop, and the marvelous Royal BC Museum. The front desk was friendly and very helpful. The King bed was very comfortable and the room was quiet. We received a discount breakfast coupon for Samuels restaurant across the street and the food was good. The best thing about Helms Inn is the location, because it is so close to many of the downtown Victoria sites. The rooms are comfortable for a two-star hotel, but weren't quite good enough to be three-star worthy. Helms is an older hotel on the same block as the Royal BC Museum and one block from the harbor and Parlament Building. The rooms are large, very clean, and had a wonderfully convenient kitchenette. Would highly recommend the hotel for casual travelers and families.

Nice large room - we had a suite with a kitchenette. The tea pot in the kitchenette was a nice touch. The colors of the decor may be a little dated, but it didn't look old or dingy or anything like that. Right next to the Royal BC Museum and really close to the waterfront and everything else. Walking distance to most everything. They still only have […] free wireless internet in the lobby, but our room was close enough to the lobby to pick it up.
