We spent 6 nights in this hotel in their royal club section. Overall it was a positive experience. The hotel personel was friendly and helpful. On the other hand, the management of the hotel should pay more attention for small details. For example, addition of Wi-Fi serveice would be a nice touch.

Guests of Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda All Inclusive have direct access to the 457-meter (1,500-foot) white-sand beach for swimming and water sports, including kayaking, windsurfing, and sailing. A large pool meanders through the resort, and a separate pool is provided for children. Ages 2–12 may join activities and games at the supervised kids club.
The resort offers two tennis courts with complimentary equipment, as well as a volleyball court. Among the scheduled daily activities are aerobics, stretching, and water spinning. Evening entertainment varies nightly and includes live productions, casino nights, and guest-participation events.

"great resort, bad beach"
All inclusive it was nice. Breakfast was very good-big variety. Lunch and dinner I would say it was below average. Overall the resort is very nice and a good value. One big exception was the beach - not good for swimming at all...the beach water was not clear and the sea bottom was muddy, not sandy...not at all enjoyable. I am not sure what happened […] here, perhaps the hurricanes washed out all the sand from the hotel beach. I would return but next time I would rent a car and go to other beaches for swimming. "Comfy and clean"
The rooms were extremely comfy, and the service was fantastic. Both the rooms and the grounds were impeccably clean and well looked after. The food was pretty good although we had to leave the hotel to get real, traditional Mexican food. A very relaxing holiday in a beautiful location.

The resort was beautiful but the room was a huge disapointment and especially their diving center "Extreme Adventure" was the worst diving center I have been to so far. The transportation around the resort was very nice, gorgeous pool and lounge chairs and the staff were very helpful and nice and awesome tiki bars and resturants. BUT when we got to […] our rooms I noticed alot of mosquitos flying around in our rooms constantly(many mosquito bites while we stayed at this resort but not at any others), tiles broken in the shower, the shower head practically pulled out of the wall and the bathtub yellow and grimy, rooms where alot smaller than expected for a nice resort, the fan did not work and whenever I needed to go to see our building congiere they were not there and I would have to book reservation to eat at the front of the resort. The resorts diving activity center known as "Extreme Adventure" promised me and my cousins (15 total) to go snorkeling at 3 different reefs for two hours. Instead we get two small motor boats that were not even owned by the diving center we were cheated out of $500 to got only to one snorkeling sight (the dive spot was cerebros and honestly was not even a nice reef) and instead of a two hour tour we got a 40 minute tour and they refuse to remburse us the money we paid them. nice resort - wonderful staff - food was very good not gourmet but very good. need to go to pool by 6 a.m. to reserve your chairs if you want to sit in partial shade. past reviews of strong smell in a.m. it is only when the sprinklers are on - otherwise no smell. My only complaint was, it is out in the middle of nowhere, but beside the highway, and there is no shuttle, or economical way to get to the airport. It was roughly $45 cab drive.

"Paper thin walls and ceilings - couldn't sleep"
I booked a room at this all-inclusive because I wanted to catch up on sleep and relax. I travel worldwide for business, so stay in many hotels, and have also been at all-inclusive resorts in the past. Of the myriad of hotels and bed in breakfasts I have stayed at worldwide, this was THE WORST hotel for restful sleep. The floors and hallways are all […] made out of concrete (that is textured to look like stone). The cleaning staff cart and roller suitcases make an extremely loud noise when pulled over this floor, which travels directly into the guest rooms. There is a major issue with sound echoing throughout the hallways, and you can here EVERYTHING going on outside of your room, from all directions. The first night my husband and I were woken up around 7am by kids running around in the room above us and moving furniture across the room. I turned on a white noise app on my phone, but it didn't mask the extreme noise. I called the front desk after about 45 minutes and they said they would send someone to check it out. 45 minutes later (after 1.5 hours of this) I called again and about 30 minutes later the noise stopped. We switched our room to the top floor the next night, so we could ensure better sleep. Unfortunately, the noise from the hallway (starting around 8am) was almost a terrible. Every roller board suitcase that is pulled down the hallway echos like a truck is coming right past your room. Again, I blasted the white noise, pulled the covers over my head (which usually does the trick in other hotels), but it was nothing for the bellowing noise that happened every 10 minutes or so in the large hall corridor. On another note, the second room we moved into had HUMAN BLOOD splattered on the walls, drops of blood with a trail leading towards the door connecting to the room next door, and a trail of blood ending in a dried up large spot next to the garbage can under the desk. "Nice vacation"
Five of us were there for a week. The positives: the room was lovely, the food was excellent. For the most part the staff was friendly and kind. The pools were beautiful, restaurants very good. Buffets excellent. The things that can be improved upon: 1. There should be more sailboats available for guests to borrow. They have only one and are clearly […] more interested in renting boating related services than providing them for free. 2. Upon arrival and departure, the reception staff made everything an ordeal - dinner reservations, and the fact that we had 2 rooms booked with 2 agencies confused them to a ridiculous extreme. Everyone kept asking us who our 'travel agency' was and tried to get us to attend spiels about time shares which we resisted. When we left at the end of our stay, they were in a tizzy because 3 of us wanted to leave in a cab for the airport but one of those three was a guest in the second room. They did not want to let the cab leave for the airport. Then when the last two of us left 2 hours later and we had been in a room for 3 that also confused them again. When you check out they give the guy at the taxi station the ok and a receipt with a number of guests on it in order for them to leave with you for the airport and since 2 3 there was much ado. Stuff like that make you feel like a kid in the principal's office waiting to see if you are going to get detention or not. 3. The beach is not that great (we are used to Jamaica as a comparison) but there is nothing they can do about that. 4. The gym equipment could use some updating. We has 13 people in our group that went and i would have to say with that many people they accomadated us in every way they could.. I can speak for all of us and say we would go there again without doubt and i would reccommend it to all my family and friends for sure..
"Look somewhere else"
I requested a non-smoking room and they did not honor my request. The room I was given stank. It took them three hours to find another room. Worst customer service I have seen. Talked to the manager, he said they fulfill request when possible and told me a bunch of lies to calm me down. Obviously, they do not try very hard. "WORST hotel experience ever."
Too much to ever try to write here, but I will include bullet points of how awful our experience was. I would never, ever, ever go back to this place. Just terrible: -Rooms smelled like a weird chemical -Dinners were pretty good actually, but the buffets for breakfast and lunch were awful. It tasted like very cheap buffet food. Not worth what you pay […] for it at all. -Guest services were horrible. They were late for everything, and often didn't help at all. -We requested our honeymoon package from 4 different people and never received it -The drinks are free, but any type of fruit drink was pretty bad -Booking restaurants is pretty inconvenient, and we had to eat late many nights as everything was booked -The air conditioner wouldn't shut off in our first room -The showers didn't drain in both rooms -They didn't change our bedsheets when they cleaned the room -Hotel staff repeatedly walked into our room unannounced -Couldn't set up the internet in our room -Internet in the lobby was spotty and cut out several times -We were accosted repeatedly by a woman trying to get us to go to a breakfast and listen to a promotional deal thing to get us into a time share -Beaches were crowded and the water was a gross, dirty brown color Read more
"Would never return, do not recommend it."
This hotel is a large, assembly-line hotel for people who don't mind being a number. It is overwhelming the number of people at the dining areas (hello, middle school cafeteria). The food is good, sometimes, and terrible at others. You should not expect more, and you won't be disappointed. It was really disgusting they way the hotel made you "make a […] reservation" every night at one of their restaurants -- they were always impossible to get a reservation, yet they were always 80% EMPTY!!! At least the alcohol flows freely... which is fine for the first 2 days, then you feel sick, fat, hungover, and the novelty of free alcohol wears off. There is barely a place to find a spot on the over-crowded beach. My boyfriend and I had pleasure in walking 7 miles everyday on the beach to get into town. The walk on the beach was the best thing. You could find some quite, secluded beaches along the way to stop for a swim or lay out and relax. If I had the choice, I would stay in an all-inclusive again in Mexico, but I would pay a few hundred dollars more for the trip and stay next door at ANY of the other hotels on the strip.... Read more

"Pleasant Week at Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda"
Enjoyed a warm sunny week at the Blue Bay. We were pleasantly surprised by the relatively short trip from the Airport to the hotel - we were prepared for a longer journey, and the convenient proximity to Playa del Carmen for a trip into town as well. There were no major issues or problems during our stay. We were blessed with seven days of almost non-stop […] sunny warm weather. The resort service was good and the people friendly. The overall mix of guests was good too - a mix of young adults, mid-aged, families, and some older people - so not too extreme one way or another (i.e. not too much like a spring break frat house, a children's daycare, or a snoozing retirement home). A good paced environment. The food was average-to-good for a large-scale buffet style all inclusive - we're not generally snobbish or fussy on food in any event. The rooms and amenities were all fine. Some rooms have that faint damp aroma that seems common across most warm tropical destinations, but it wasn't that bad, nor did it particularly bother us. The staff were very friendly and helpful most all of the time, and the convenient trolly service around this fairly large resort property was much appreciated. The evening entertainment shows in particular were, compared to other places we've stayed, above average-to-very good. The late night entertainment (nightly beach party 11PM-1AM) was fun, but could have either started a bit sooner, or gone on a little longer for our fun factor. The white sandy beach itself is very nice, though the waters along the edge sometimes have a build up of seaweed (we understand it's a left over result of the major hurricane from a few years ago that hit this coastline hard). A bit farther out, the waters were clear and clean. The main pool was conveniently right along the beach, and was good for lounging or getting wet. The service was helpful and friendly, the food was plentiful and there was plenty of choice. "Lunchbag Letdown"
This was my 5th stay at the Blue Bay and for the first time, I felt really let down. When I checked in, Emmanuel at the front desk said that given my past regular visits, that he would throw in a lobster dinner as a perk. However, when I asked the concierge, he denied me saying that I hadn't stayed long enough to have lobster. This was after he told […] me that they had no ala carte availability for the following evening which already had my back up. A few moments later, I asked another concierge at another building about availability and was told they had plenty of openings at most every restaurant except French. Also, upon our arrival, there was no hot water and no bathtub in our upgraded oceanview room. I asked the front desk if I could have a room with a bathtub and they accommodated me by having us move at 11:30pm to a new room. When we got to the new room, again, no tub....and the room was definitely a downgrade that allowed a view of a teeny bit of ocean if we crouched down on the tiny balcony and peered through the trees. We didn't realize this till morning. By that time, I had just given up asking. I own beachfront property in Costa Maya, Mexico and I've always used the Blue Bay exclusively as a treat before going home. Next time, I'll definitely shop other hotels before clicking "buy". "Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda - a holiday to remember"
We loved our stay at Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda. The resort is absolutely beautiful, the staff were kind and gracious. Our rooms were gorgeous, they were generous with everything, the coffee was very very good. There were quite a few restaurant rules but with 1000 rooms, once we got to know these, it was O.K. The food at this resort was amazing, lots […] of variety, buffets always to fall back on if you didn't eat a la carte. The filet mignon was the best I've ever eaten. There was lots to do at this resort and with a 24 hour sports bar, it kept our young people at the resort, which was a bonus. I found the staff extremely helpful, the grounds were so well taken care of, the pool area, beach, etc. were always clean and well manicured. I loved the pool area by the garden view area as well as food/bar setup. Our family was in garden view and we were ocean view; both areas were beautifully taken care of and easily accessible. La atencion del Hotel excelente, todo enrealidad fue perfecto. Si pienso importante mencionar el punto negro dentro de todo el servicio del hotel, si compras Tours fuera de los que vende el hotel, intrenamente generan problemas para el acceso de terceros, lo que hace que uno tenga que caminar hasta la entrada que esta largo, para tomar el trnasporte, […] en una ocacion me dijo el encargado que eran 20 dolares para ir a la entrada del hotel, una locura completa. Igual con el Bus de Experiencias Xcaret en el Hotel nos digeron que no lo dejarían entrar al hotel, que teniamos que ir a fuera, salimos y luego nos llamaron que el bus nos esperaba adentro, se dio una muy mala coordinación en esta area de acceso. El hotel y las comodidas y comidas estuvieron muy bien. La gente muy amable .La piscina impecable y muy buenos servicios. La unica contra es que quien quiere quedarse todos los días allí no tiene una playa de aguas cristalinas sino que hay muchas algas y rocas que dificultan bañarse y disfrutar del típico mar del caribe.

Es un hotel familiar, diferente, todos los servicios del hotel quedan alejados unos de otros, caminar o esperar los carritos de golf para lllegar a su destino. Las habitaciones miy sencillas en su acabado y decoración. El servicio deja mucho que desear, lacabina del baño tenia una fuga de agua y a pesar de anunciarlo y prometerme la solucion, esta nunca […] llego. Los pisos de las zonas comunes son rizados, burdos, esto hace que los carros de servicio de limpieza generen ruido por friccion desde temprana hora de la mañana. El hotel en general está muy agradable, sin embargo me tocó asistir con un grupo de amigos y no nos trataron muy bien. Al llegar al hotel nadie nos indicó dónde estarían nuestras habitaciones, así que tuvimos que investigar, cargando nuestras maletas hasta el edificio que correspondia. Para hacer el check-out tuvimos que cargar con nuestras maletas […] cerca de 1 km, desde el edificio donde se encontraban nuestras habitaciones, hasta recepción. Stor bra och modernt all inclusive. Bra rum med sjöutsikt och balkong. Mycket bra mat och trevlig strand restaurant. Fint poolområde men ej så bra bad i havet, botten mycket gammal korall ojämn och lång grunt, lite grumligt och ingen för snorkling. Fina tennisbanor och fitness center.

Davvero un hotel sensazionale, ottimo servizio, personale cordiale e disponibile, spiaggia e piscina da favola, ma soprattutto cibo squisito! Ottimo anche il prezzo!!! E' lontano da Playa del Carmen, ma con un mini bus organizzato dall'hotel ci si può arrivare con pochi Euro. Davvero raccomandato!
