"Great for family or couples..."
From arrival t departure, this hotel is 5 stars. The staff, the facilities, and most of all the location, are what memories are made of. The drive to the hotel in no way prepares you for what you will find when you arrive. We were treated to the best life has to offer. Don't miss out on this place if you are planning to stay in Manuel Antonio.Genuine Expedia guest review
The highlight of our trip to Costa Rica was our stay at Arenas Del Mar. I think the biggest key to their success is the amazing staff they have. Each person there made us feel like VIPs, and they were so genuinely kind and wanting to help us. I loved it!! One of them even came to our room to let us know when the monkeys were really near by because we […] had been wanting to see them. We saw WAY more wildlife on the property than we did at Manuel Antonio Park (I would suggest just skipping that!!!) The park is really convenient to get to - it's a 10 minute walk down the beach. Overall, loved this hotel and definitely recommend it to all my family and friends. Thank you, Elaine, Sergio, Alex, Rodbin, Ariel, Ronny, Pedro, and Yahaira , and the others that I may have forgotten!!!! We miss you guys already!!! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

We loved everything about this hotel!! Everyone was so friendly and gracious, always greeting us by our names. The restaurant was wonderful. The easy access to beach and surfing was awesome. The kids especially loved seeing the monkeys, sloths, iguanas hanging out at the property! Fun fun time. Would definitely come back again!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"The Honeymoon Costa Rica Destination"
We stayed at Arenas Del Mar for 5 nights for our honeymoon. We flew in late at night...so we stayed in San Jose for one night before making the trip out. It took 2hrs 45min to get to the hotel from San Jose in our rental car. The hotel is amazing - it's right in the jungle..but steps away from the beach. Need golf carts to get around...but once you […] call them, they come within minutes, so it's not a hassle. (You dont have to tip for each ride) The best part was the food - amazing continental breakfast - gourmet pancakes, french toast, burritos, "typical" costa rican breakfast dishes. We ate at the restaurant one night - amazing too. Happy hour everyday from 6-7pm at the bar (which closes at 10pm) - the drinks were amazing too. The area is great - drive up a steep hill, and you have world class restaurants just 5 minutes away driving (Kapi Kapi, Rafaels Terrazco, Salsipuedes). The place is just 10 min driving from a great national park - manuel antonio - and also 10 min away from awesome zip lining ($60 per person), and 15min driving away from a must-do mangrove forest boat ride. You must stay here! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Best hotel stay I've ever had. The service was personal and impeccable. Though the hotel is located in a busy/ touristy area, it is quite secluded and feels rather private. Lovely beach. Incredible breakfast included with the room. Perfect place for a honeymoon or romantic getaway. Highly recommended!Genuine Expedia guest review

"Arenas del Mar"
This was a beautiful hotel. We loved our room, bed, tico bar, the beaches (which were so close and easy access compared to many other hotels in the area). The staff was so nice, all of the time and very helpful with tours. We would go back tomorrow if we could. the shower and comfy beds were outstanding. And the dinners in the evening were wonderful. […] Very tasty, gourmet meals. Only thing we didn't cre for was the "romantic dinner" meals at the Playitas beach one night. They were quite disappointing ...wished we 'd had eaten in the main restaurant again that night. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Arenas Del Mar, what a way to experience Costa Rica! This small hotel is truly amazing!! We flew into San Jose around 2pm and were on the road about 3:30 to begin our over 3 hour journey to Arenas Del Mar. We arrived after dark so we weren't really able to experience the beauty of this hotel. We were greeted by smiling faces and taken to our room by […] golf cart. We stayed in an ocean view suite and when we walked into the room we could hear the waves crashing but couldn't see anything when we looked out to the balcony. It wasn't until the next day when we opened the drapes that we were blown away. Our view was amazing!!! We sat on our balcony that morning watching monkeys in the trees with the ocean in the background. The food was out of this world. The grounds were simply beaurtiful and so clean. The wildlife was abundant ~ we saw monkeys, sloths, iguanas, birds, and lizards. Surprisingly it was not buggy. The weather could not have been more perfect. We had a great time learning Spanish with the staff who we will miss so much. I can't say enough for the people working at Arenas Del Mar, they are a special group of people. Being surrounded by genuinely kind, happy, friendly faces with a zest for life is in its own way magical. We cannot wait to go back!!! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"LOVED Arenas Del Mar and you will too!"
We LOVED our stay at Arenas. The website and description do not do this resort justice. Location is amazing although be prepared for a bit of a commute to get there as it's a 3 hour drive from San Jose. Or shorter flight via Sansa to Quepos, then 20 minute ride to resort. Arenas has two beaches, one of which is about as secluded and as private as you'll […] get in this country where all beaches must remain public. Also two beautiful pools, two great restaurants, and an amazing staff. We found the tours and prices (Mountain Tour, and Safari ZipLine Tour) to be much more reasonable than arranging for tours on our own. Great excursions offered including an on-site bird-watching and tortilla making experience. Even our college students enjoyed these activities once we got them off the beach! Nearby town of Quepos is fun for a short visit and the restaurants at Manual Antonio are fun and reasonably priced. Recommend the hotel restaurants as well; great service excellent food and we enjoyed the poolside tables for dinner and breakfast. Oh, and the breakfast that's included - amazing! Bowls of fresh fruit and pastry that changes every day, fresh juice, unlimited coffee, and a choice off their breakfast menu as well for more traditional egg, beans and rice, waffles, etc. Breakfast was enough food to carry us through until dinner. . Our Ocean Breeze room still had a ocean view, and was very comfortable with a huge bathroom and open shower. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

My husband and I just spent 2 weeks in Costa Rica and 4 nights at Arenas del Mar. This property is pretty amazing. We saw a ton of wildlife right on the premises including: monkies, sloths, iguanas, ducks, raccoons and even a scorpion. The views from the rooms are second to none. We had a blast swimming in the ocean. We thoroughly enjoyed breakfast […] and lunches at the restaurants. The dinners were good, but not exceptional. "Relaxing place to stay for couples or families"
I can't say enough about this hotel and its staff. The food was amazing, the staff were so incredibly helpful and friendly and the room was so comfortable. My husband and I travelled with our 1 year old and she was treated so well that it made our trip relaxing while allowing couples there without children to enjoy their quiet time. The hotel provided […] us with a crib, highchairs, toys for the beach, extra food while we waited for our meal in case our little one was a bit impatient..... The hotel went out of their way. The views from the Ocean View rooms were worth every extra penny. The massage at the spa was relaxing. The beach was clean and great for body boarding. Arenas del Mar took our breath away. We only stayed there a few nights because of the cost but it was the highlight of our trip. The rooms were great and the service was wonderful. The staff really went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed our stay there. The private beach is a real gem and guests can access a second beach and walk to downtown Manuel […] Antonio if they want. The only negative comment is the fact that we had to take a taxi to get to and from town, but it was not expensive so we wouldn't let that deter anyone from staying there. "One of a kind!"
Amazing! We spent three nights here during a 17 day trip to Costa Rica - our honeymoon. Monkeys everywhere, staff was super friendly, the hotel premises were divine. A slice of paradise. Very private and super romantic. Take the nature hike with Roger into the national park. He is very knowledgable and friendly. He genuinely likes nature and we were […] lucky enough to spot sloths, monkeys, and even a snake! Once again the staff made this trip extra memorable as they were incredible hosts and welcomed us. They are all about the "pura vida". 100% worth every penny. One thing though, the premises is full of steep walks and a taxi is necessary to get to Manuel Antonio proper as well as to Quepos. As for getting around the hotel itself staff is readily drive you around in their many golf carts.

My boyfriend and I just returned from 4 nights at Arenas Del Mar. The hotel is beautiful and the staff was beyond my expectations. This was my second visit to Costa Rica and I always stay at the best resorts. Arenas Del Mar had the best service by far. Everyone knew our names on our first day. By the second day they new what we liked to drink and eat. I have Celiac Disease (gluten allergy.) Everyone, including the front desk knew I was allergic and made sure I had plenty of food and drink. The chef was happy to adjust the menu for me and the staff was able to tell me all about their gluten free options without having to consult the chef. I was beyond impressed and I stayed healthy the entire trip. They even had gluten free options at their beautiful spa. I highly recommend the spa and Maylene. She was very knowledgeable and percise in areas I needed help. The fact that the hotel cared so much about my health was priceless. A small crumb of gluten could of made me sick for weeks. I am beyond grateful for the care they take in making their guests happy. Beyond the healthy food, the hotel is very peaceful and relaxing. It sits right on the pacific ocean and in walking distance to town. Our room was right on the beach and we felt very safe and relaxed. The room was small but had a large balcony on the beach and was super clean. The attention to detail and the service make this a 5 star hotel in my book. If you are looking for relaxation and wellness...stay here! Thank you Arenas Del Mar, we have already told our friends and family about wonderful our stay!! We hope they visit!
"Lush accommodations surrounded by natural beauty"
10/17/14 JASYMON Hilton NY
A unique experience. Outstanding cliffside accommodations surrounded by rainforest. Leave your worries aside, after the drive down the steep stone and dirt road the the hotel reception area. We were welcomed by the Resort staff with a wonderful fruit drink and driven by golf cart to our suites. Once we had settled in the monkeys came around to welcome us as well. Played in the surf at the awesome provate beach, walked to town on the beach in low tide, soaked in our private out door hot tub after getting drenched by rain on the walk back. Love the custom prepared breakfasts. Enjoyed our best meal in the country at dinner in the restaurant. Awesome staff arranged tours for us, shuttled us around and made us feel very welcome. You don't need to go to Manuel Antonio Park to see more wildlife - but you should. Highly recommended!
"Family Vacation - Beautiful Rain forest and Beach Front Paradise"
10/13/14 John M Doylestown, Pennsylvania, United States
My wife and I took our four kids to Arenas Del Mar. It was truly unreal. The raw beauty of the rain forest and the ocean is a one of a kind. We thought the bugs would be bad but everything is working in balance so not a bite. There is plenty to do on the beaches and by the pools at the hotel. If you want to explore out there are trips galore. We went zip lining and did a long hike to a beautiful waterfall. Our down days were on the beaches or by the pool. We were set up in a site so it gave us the privacy we wanted but a great chance to spend some quality time as a family. The staff were great Ersel, the wilderness expert is a true professional and by the end of the trip he felt like one of the family. The staff were super friendly and genuine. It was a great trip and I would recommend it to families and or couples as Arenas Del Mar has it all. Pura Vida!
"Wonderful Resort in the heart of nature!"
10/13/14 ashsail Portland, Oregon
I stayed here with my daughter for one night while touring the Manuel Antonio park. This hotel is nestled onto the jungle and has its own private beach as well. While going up to our room for the first time, we saw a large group of howler monkeys making their way through the trees outside our door. Later, at dinner, we were visited at a distance by a local raccoon. The next day, while walking along one of the property's trails we saw a sloth in a tree. The room was comfortable, lovely bed and linens, and had a great porch and view of the ocean. I would absolutely stay here again!!!
"A stunning property in the jungle overlooking the sea"
10/10/14 MrsMarks Gloucestershire
the hotel is strategically designed across acres of jungle full of wild-life, flora and fauna. My suite was on the third floor of the building nearest the reception and restaurant area. It's balcony was as wide as the room themselves- vast and complete with dining and sitting areas and to complete the luxury - a jacuzzi which like the rest of the suite of 703a overlooked the most stunning beach view. My neighbours actually saw a whale on two occasions, in the bay. The wildlife in the acres around the hilly property was unbelievable with sloths as well as three types of monkeys in the trees; the most beautiful dawn chorus of birds and a vast array of the most beautiful iguanas. A night walk with knowledgeable guide Anya revealed the most beautiful of frogs, spiders and other small animals to add to the many roaming around the property and its beach and reception swimming pools. For those that don't wish to walk then the hosts around the property such as Alexandro and Raymond are so helpful in ferrying you around from one area to another in the specially designed buggys and are very patient and sooo enthusiastic about the hotel and its Eco- approach to just about everything.Having a thing about sloths they were so helpful in pointing out or searching for the animals . In fact all the staff be it receptionists, waiters , guides, drivers all had the same enthusiasm and just first class service. Their enthusiasm infectious. The food at the hotel is just to die for. Deliciously prepared, with the option of a beach restaurante for lunch and a partially outdoor, though covered evening restaurant near reception. The menus are varied, the service is just excellent and breakfast especially pure joy around the pool overlooking the sea.So much to do and to visit. did I want to leave? No.
"Family vacation - beach, forest, outdoors"
Our family of two adults, three children (10-15) stayed in one of the suites. The location and hotel itself were beautiful and well maintained. We wanted a place from which to take in Costa Rica wildlife and friendly atmosphere. The staff and nature guides were excellent - very friendly, helpful, and inviting. Going on wildlife tours with Ersel, one of the nature guides, stands out as being one of the highlights of the hotel and our stay in Costa Rica. We stayed in a different hotel in the Arenal area and Arenas del Mar was far superior. The hotel is surrounded by wildlife. You don't have to walk far to see monkeys, toucans, sloths. The restaurant food could have been a bit better with more seafood offerings. If the restaurant could be raised to Michelin star quality, this hotel would be ideal.
"Amazing Honeymoon Experience"
10/08/14 Dale B Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, United States
This was by far the best trip we have ever had. We chose this resort for our honeymoon and were beyond impressed by our experience at Arenas del Mar. We chose Costa Rica for our honeymoon because we wanted some adventure but also have some relaxing poolside and beach experience. Arenas del Mar was the perfect fit for us. If you love wildlife, you will love it here. We saw sloths, monkeys, and even humpback whales from the resort. The staff members were incredible, and we cannot say enough about how helpful and great they were. They are all incredibly friendly, knew us by name at the end of the week, and made us feel at home. Hannia and Ersel were the nature guides at the resort-we highly recommend doing the night walk tour and bird watching tour with them. They were wonderfully educational and so much fun. The food was unbelievable. We didn't have a bite of food all week that wasn't perfectly prepared and delicious. Luis and Yahaira were typically our servers and they were amazing. Sergio and Cristian topped off the fantastic staff with all of their help organizing our week with our excursions. They were so helpful and made our trip unforgettable. We'd highly recommend staying here to anyone that asks! They're awesome!
"Best Hotel Experience We've Ever Had"
10/06/14 Kristen N New Haven, Connecticut, United States
My husband and I chose Arenas Del Mar for our honeymoon. We are not the all-inclusive resort types, so we were looking for a place that would feel like a Costa Rican experience while also having honeymoon luxury. We got all that and more at Arenas Del Mar. Our experience was there was so wonderful that we cannot wait to go back. Here are a few highlights: 1. The grounds and facilities: Arenas Del Mar is simply breathtaking. Many hotels hire professional photographers and then you get there and the picture looks nothing like the hotel. Arenas was more beautiful than any picture could capture. There is jungle all around you, and pristine private beach right below you. Unlike too many touristy resorts, Arenas Del Mar makes it a point to leave the jungle natural- no overly groomed flower gardens here. This keeps the local wildlife continually comfortable visiting the hotel, which makes for an awesome experience! The rooms are spacious, updated, and spotless. We fell asleep each night to the sound of the waves- something we had to buy in a little sound box at home! 2. The staff: Hands down, the staff at Arenas Del Mar are the kindest and most helpful staff of any I’ve experienced, after approximately 200 hotel stays in my life. They manage a great balance between being there for everything we needed, without being at all overbearing. A few tidbits: a. Anya is one of the tour guides at Arenas, and she is amazing. Her passion for the wildlife of Costa Rica is palpable, and she passed this on to us in both a night tour of the grounds (so cool!) and a morning tour in Manual Antonio. b. Raymond and Andres were our main golf cart drivers throughout the week. They were always super punctual, excited to talk about our plans for the day, and friendly. c. The front desk staff is incredibly helpful- though Arenas offers many tours, they are more than happy to arrange a third party tour for their guests (and they did for us). d. The cleaning staff is phenomenal. Every time we left our room (I’m not kidding!) we came back to a freshly made bed and bathroom. 3. The experiences: we got exactly what we wanted at Arenas Del Mar, which was luxury with easy access to off-campus activities and restaurants. Here are a few highlights, that I highly recommend. a. The pools and beaches: Arenas Del Mar has 2 private pools that are gorgeous, a private beach, and access with towel service to Espadilla Beach at Manuel Antonio. After a day of hiking or horseback riding, we enjoyed the luxury of the pool and beach. b. Wildlife Experiences: I highly recommend the night tour at Arenas Del Mar. Because the hotel has done so much to preserve native flora and fauna, you see amazing animals and insects just walking around the Arenas Del Mar trails at night. c. Tortillas with Mama Eli. Do not skip this experience! My husband and I thought we’d try this cooking lesson because it was complimentary. We didn't know how delicious real tortillas are, compared to what is sold in US supermarkets. Mama Eli cooks for the entire staff at Arenas Del Mar, and taught us how to make the tortillas she’s been preparing since the age of 17. We’ve already purchased the ingredients to make them ourselves back home in the US. As you can see, we can’t stop raving about Arenas Del Mar. It is truly the most beautiful place we’ve ever been, and worthy of this lengthy review. Our only hope is that, when we return, we can say hello to Anya, Raymond, Andres, and Mama Eli again!
"Friendly yet invisible"
10/02/14 Max V
The staff at the hotel was just great - almost invisible when I did not need to see them, but always there when I needed something. They were very patient with my kid. I felt like I was with my family members - the staff were so caring and genuine. The restaurant was very nice, though not cheap by any means - well worth it. The beach is very near and is virtually private... Highly recommended!
"The best resort I have ever stayed at - Gluten Free!!"
09/29/14 clooney_71 Tairua, New Zealand
I have celiac disease and so I am extremely allergic to gluten. The owner of the resort, Jeremy, assured me I was completely safe eating at Arenas Del Mar and he was right. We stayed during the Chef event week. Chefs were flown in from America for a strictly gluten free week. There were no gluten items in the kitchen. I could eat whatever I wanted and not get sick. The food was incredible, the best I have ever had. It wad 5 star quality with amazing variety. I particularly enjoyed passionfruit raw fish and chocolate lava mud cake. I rediscovered my passion for mouth watering food and it felt like I did not have celiac disease. The staff at the resort were fantastic. Everyone was smiling and genuinely happy. They taught us a little Spanish and they were extremely dedicated to their jobs ensuring we had the best vacation. You can be in the most beautiful place in the world but it is the people who make it special and we certainly felt that here. One day I had to go to the doctor with an ear infection and one staff member went out of his way to come with us to the doctor, translate for us and arrange transport. I loved doing boot camp in the mornings, it was a great way to start the day and something that a lot of resorts do not offer. We stayed in September, so mornings were sunny for activities and then in late afternoon it would rain with thunderstorms which was perfect to watch from the jacuzzi with a glass of wine. The rooms were beautiful and very clean with perfect views of the stunning beaches and rainforest. It is truly a place that restores energy and is good for the soul. I have stayed in a lot of resorts all around the world and this is my favourite. We will definitely be back, it was outstanding in every way.
