The Hotel was built into the rain-forest with lush tropical trees and vegetation everywhere. Lots of wildlife, monkeys, sloths, ect... You can relax on beach or pool. You are taken by electric cart wherever you would like to go on the premises. No waiting, you call and they are usually waiting for you when you come out of your room. Staff are wonderful. "Great for family or couples..."
From arrival t departure, this hotel is 5 stars. The staff, the facilities, and most of all the location, are what memories are made of. The drive to the hotel in no way prepares you for what you will find when you arrive. We were treated to the best life has to offer. Don't miss out on this place if you are planning to stay in Manuel Antonio.Genuine Expedia guest review
The highlight of our trip to Costa Rica was our stay at Arenas Del Mar. I think the biggest key to their success is the amazing staff they have. Each person there made us feel like VIPs, and they were so genuinely kind and wanting to help us. I loved it!! One of them even came to our room to let us know when the monkeys were really near by because we […] had been wanting to see them. We saw WAY more wildlife on the property than we did at Manuel Antonio Park (I would suggest just skipping that!!!) The park is really convenient to get to - it's a 10 minute walk down the beach. Overall, loved this hotel and definitely recommend it to all my family and friends. Thank you, Elaine, Sergio, Alex, Rodbin, Ariel, Ronny, Pedro, and Yahaira , and the others that I may have forgotten!!!! We miss you guys already!!! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

We loved everything about this hotel!! Everyone was so friendly and gracious, always greeting us by our names. The restaurant was wonderful. The easy access to beach and surfing was awesome. The kids especially loved seeing the monkeys, sloths, iguanas hanging out at the property! Fun fun time. Would definitely come back again!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"The Honeymoon Costa Rica Destination"
We stayed at Arenas Del Mar for 5 nights for our honeymoon. We flew in late at night...so we stayed in San Jose for one night before making the trip out. It took 2hrs 45min to get to the hotel from San Jose in our rental car. The hotel is amazing - it's right in the jungle..but steps away from the beach. Need golf carts to get around...but once you […] call them, they come within minutes, so it's not a hassle. (You dont have to tip for each ride) The best part was the food - amazing continental breakfast - gourmet pancakes, french toast, burritos, "typical" costa rican breakfast dishes. We ate at the restaurant one night - amazing too. Happy hour everyday from 6-7pm at the bar (which closes at 10pm) - the drinks were amazing too. The area is great - drive up a steep hill, and you have world class restaurants just 5 minutes away driving (Kapi Kapi, Rafaels Terrazco, Salsipuedes). The place is just 10 min driving from a great national park - manuel antonio - and also 10 min away from awesome zip lining ($60 per person), and 15min driving away from a must-do mangrove forest boat ride. You must stay here! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Best hotel stay I've ever had. The service was personal and impeccable. Though the hotel is located in a busy/ touristy area, it is quite secluded and feels rather private. Lovely beach. Incredible breakfast included with the room. Perfect place for a honeymoon or romantic getaway. Highly recommended!Genuine Expedia guest review

"Arenas del Mar"
This was a beautiful hotel. We loved our room, bed, tico bar, the beaches (which were so close and easy access compared to many other hotels in the area). The staff was so nice, all of the time and very helpful with tours. We would go back tomorrow if we could. the shower and comfy beds were outstanding. And the dinners in the evening were wonderful. […] Very tasty, gourmet meals. Only thing we didn't cre for was the "romantic dinner" meals at the Playitas beach one night. They were quite disappointing ...wished we 'd had eaten in the main restaurant again that night. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Arenas Del Mar, what a way to experience Costa Rica! This small hotel is truly amazing!! We flew into San Jose around 2pm and were on the road about 3:30 to begin our over 3 hour journey to Arenas Del Mar. We arrived after dark so we weren't really able to experience the beauty of this hotel. We were greeted by smiling faces and taken to our room by […] golf cart. We stayed in an ocean view suite and when we walked into the room we could hear the waves crashing but couldn't see anything when we looked out to the balcony. It wasn't until the next day when we opened the drapes that we were blown away. Our view was amazing!!! We sat on our balcony that morning watching monkeys in the trees with the ocean in the background. The food was out of this world. The grounds were simply beaurtiful and so clean. The wildlife was abundant ~ we saw monkeys, sloths, iguanas, birds, and lizards. Surprisingly it was not buggy. The weather could not have been more perfect. We had a great time learning Spanish with the staff who we will miss so much. I can't say enough for the people working at Arenas Del Mar, they are a special group of people. Being surrounded by genuinely kind, happy, friendly faces with a zest for life is in its own way magical. We cannot wait to go back!!! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"LOVED Arenas Del Mar and you will too!"
We LOVED our stay at Arenas. The website and description do not do this resort justice. Location is amazing although be prepared for a bit of a commute to get there as it's a 3 hour drive from San Jose. Or shorter flight via Sansa to Quepos, then 20 minute ride to resort. Arenas has two beaches, one of which is about as secluded and as private as you'll […] get in this country where all beaches must remain public. Also two beautiful pools, two great restaurants, and an amazing staff. We found the tours and prices (Mountain Tour, and Safari ZipLine Tour) to be much more reasonable than arranging for tours on our own. Great excursions offered including an on-site bird-watching and tortilla making experience. Even our college students enjoyed these activities once we got them off the beach! Nearby town of Quepos is fun for a short visit and the restaurants at Manual Antonio are fun and reasonably priced. Recommend the hotel restaurants as well; great service excellent food and we enjoyed the poolside tables for dinner and breakfast. Oh, and the breakfast that's included - amazing! Bowls of fresh fruit and pastry that changes every day, fresh juice, unlimited coffee, and a choice off their breakfast menu as well for more traditional egg, beans and rice, waffles, etc. Breakfast was enough food to carry us through until dinner. . Our Ocean Breeze room still had a ocean view, and was very comfortable with a huge bathroom and open shower. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

My husband and I just spent 2 weeks in Costa Rica and 4 nights at Arenas del Mar. This property is pretty amazing. We saw a ton of wildlife right on the premises including: monkies, sloths, iguanas, ducks, raccoons and even a scorpion. The views from the rooms are second to none. We had a blast swimming in the ocean. We thoroughly enjoyed breakfast […] and lunches at the restaurants. The dinners were good, but not exceptional. "Relaxing place to stay for couples or families"
I can't say enough about this hotel and its staff. The food was amazing, the staff were so incredibly helpful and friendly and the room was so comfortable. My husband and I travelled with our 1 year old and she was treated so well that it made our trip relaxing while allowing couples there without children to enjoy their quiet time. The hotel provided […] us with a crib, highchairs, toys for the beach, extra food while we waited for our meal in case our little one was a bit impatient..... The hotel went out of their way. The views from the Ocean View rooms were worth every extra penny. The massage at the spa was relaxing. The beach was clean and great for body boarding. Arenas del Mar took our breath away. We only stayed there a few nights because of the cost but it was the highlight of our trip. The rooms were great and the service was wonderful. The staff really went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed our stay there. The private beach is a real gem and guests can access a second beach and walk to downtown Manuel […] Antonio if they want. The only negative comment is the fact that we had to take a taxi to get to and from town, but it was not expensive so we wouldn't let that deter anyone from staying there. "One of a kind!"
Amazing! We spent three nights here during a 17 day trip to Costa Rica - our honeymoon. Monkeys everywhere, staff was super friendly, the hotel premises were divine. A slice of paradise. Very private and super romantic. Take the nature hike with Roger into the national park. He is very knowledgable and friendly. He genuinely likes nature and we were […] lucky enough to spot sloths, monkeys, and even a snake! Once again the staff made this trip extra memorable as they were incredible hosts and welcomed us. They are all about the "pura vida". 100% worth every penny. One thing though, the premises is full of steep walks and a taxi is necessary to get to Manuel Antonio proper as well as to Quepos. As for getting around the hotel itself staff is readily drive you around in their many golf carts.

Great resort! A vehicle was blocking access to part of the road that led to Arenas del Mar so a golf cart came to rescue my partner and me as we exited the taxi. We were greeted in the lobby with smiles and signature Welcome Smoothies. Everyone was friendly and made sure that we were comfortable. The staff was knowledgeable and approachable. We even chatted with one of the owners when he visited our table at dinner. The food was delicious (breakfast, lunch and dinner). I recommend bldg 4 due to its view of the forest and the beach. Everything was clean and well kept. Very impressed!
"Best Place EVER!!!"

My husband and I just returned from our honeymoon where we stayed for 7 nights here! It was by far the best place I have every stayed. The hospitality and service was over the top and we were actually sad to leave the staff because they felt like friends. The maids were great and folded our clothes and kept things very tidy. The golf-cart and restaurant staff were by far our favorite of our stay. This place is a MUST when you come to visit Costa Rica!!!

This is a great hotel, in a beautiful natural setting, with a small private beach, and with great service. Golf carts are always available to zip you around or you can walk for a little exercise. Beach is beautiful with a dream sunset just steps away from every room.
"Would be a 6 out of 5 if I could!"
12/19/14 jerbuckel Wilmington, Delaware
We are actually waiting to check out...sadly. I would give a 6 out of 5 if I could! We really cannot think of any issues or complaints about the resort! We have even stayed for 6 nights and 7 days so there was plenty of time for us to truly experience the resort! Our room, 503B provided us with the perfect ocean view we requested as we watched sunrise over Manuel Antonio and the beach and a glimpse of sunset along the semi private playa down the hill. Our room even in proximity to other rooms, felt very private the way all balconies are constructed for privacy. As other reviewers noted, the resort is very steep, and while we frequently enjoyed the walks to/from the pool and beach, a ride in the electric cart was always available immediately or at least within a few minutes. The restaurants, while only one open at a time, offered a nice variety, large portions, fresh ingredients, local flavours and specialties and wonderful flavours! The breakfasts, the charred octopus, the snook, and the ceviche were particularly great! With 7 days between the 2 of us, we nearly tried everything, and never felt bored with the meals! We enjoyed new dishes each day and still enjoyed a few favourites a couple of times. Note: it can be more difficult to eat meals outside of the resort without a car (we enjoyed the seclusion). From the hotel and our room, we even spotted most of the local wildlife including howler monkey, white faced monkey, sloth, agouti, lizards, iguanas, hawks, pelicans. At the top of the hill out of the resort we listened to and saw several black mandible toucans. We also enjoyed several tours away from the resort: zip lining with El Santuario and white water rafting with Amigos del Rio. Finally, we ended our stay with wonderful deep tissue and hot stone massages from the spa...very nice. We spent non-active days lounging on our balcony, lounging at the semi private beach or at one of the two pools. I am not sure where everybody else went, but we truly felt that we had the resort to ourselves! The hotel seemed fully booked, yet we always felt we were alone at the pool or the beach! Finally, the staff: all of them were wonderful from waitstaff, to front desk, to maintenance, to housekeeping to spa! They all called us by name, helped us in our very poor Spanish, asked us about our plans and experiences and were always open to sharing more about the culture of Costa Rica (one of our favourite reasons to travel!). So, to the staff, we are grateful! Ok, that almost covers it...I could say more but I am going to enjoy my last half hour...
"Fishing & Relaxation at Private Beach with Pacific Ocean"
12/18/14 Rita C Albany, New York, United States
The hotel was in a beautiful private setting with it's own private beach and access to a public beach right on site as well. The rooms and hotel were beautiful, one with nature and all the wonderful animals there. What a wonderful place to live. The food was exceptional and the staff were very friendly and english speaking. We caught some Mahi Mahi and snapper on our fishing trips and the kitchen prepared them in a variety of ways, all of which were wonderfully done. Compliments to the chef and his team. It was top notch. Nothing like sleeping with the sound of the ocean not on a machine but in real life. The staff was so friendly and attentive to all our needs and got to know us. We fished 3 days from the marina in town and transportation was set up to pick us up at the hotel. Free wi-fi, great air conditioner, Ecofriendly accomodations with all the amenties included. Breakfast was included and they prepared our breakfast on fishing days to go. Excellent service. Would definitely like to go back. Would like to especially thank the wonderful Manager Alex Gordon, who was so friendly, attentive and very personal with us. Felt like we had a friend for life with his honest, down to earth personality. Loved the fantastic cocktails prepared by all the bartenders, especially Angel, who was fun and easy to joke with. We really enjoyed our stay and would like to recommend this place to anyone looking at Manuel Antonio. Thank you again everyone at Arenas. Really especially enjoyed Allan, Angel and Alex. The A team I guess. Oh yeah, can not forget to mention the bed, it was awesome and the pillows, so comfortable, better than home. Rita and Cowboy Michael
"A fantastic start to our honeymoon at the best resort in Manuel Antonio."
12/17/14 WinterVesper New York
We did a ton of research on Manuel Antonio-area resorts for the first part of our Costa Rican honeymoon, and decided that Arenas del Mar's combination of upscale amenities, beautiful jungle settings, and a (mostly) private beach couldn't be beat We're happy to report that our research definitely paid off and we were thrilled with the 5 nights we spent at Arenas. From the golf cart drivers who were more than happy to cart you up and down the steep paths between the beaches and the lobby/restaurant area at a moment's notice, to the activity guides, waiters in the restaurant, front desk staff, housekeepers, and security guards, the customer service was sensational. The speed with which all the staff members learned our names was amazing, and their willingness to go above and beyond to provide whatever we needed, be it off-property restaurant recommendations, late-night chocolate milkshakes, or tips for spotting sloths was outstanding! We experienced better service at Arenas than we have at some of the major upscale brands that pride themselves on this, like Four Seasons and Ritz-Carlton. Definitely splurge for a room with at least a partial ocean view, as the sunsets are spectacular, although we did have some atypical rain on the last few days of our stay. Even if you don't get a view from your room, the view from the upper pool and Mirador restaurant is amazing! The rooms themselves are well-appointed and comfortable, and the A/C worked great, even with the high humidity of the jungle surroundings. The free WiFi and international calls were a great bonus, and all the meals we had on property were excellent, with no complaints at all about the food or service. Playitas Beach is beautiful, although the surf can occasionally be a bit rough for swimming. When it was, we were still very content to relax in the lounge chairs with our Kindles and drinks, pausing occasionally to admire the sleeping sloths that hang out overhead in the trees there. Playa Espadilla is the larger public beach that heads south toward Manuel Antonio, but it's also an excellent and scenic spot for a leisurely late afternoon/sunset stroll, and people-watching as well. We were missing Arenas the second we boarded our plane back to San Jose at the Quepos air strip, and we're already daydreaming of our return visit!
"Another Exceptional Stay"

We just finished our 6th visit to Arenas Del Mar. The staff treat guests as royalty. Everyone worked hard to ensure that we had a great vacation. The dinner selection has improved over the past few years. Splurge for a premium suite with great views and a hot tub. Walk the property, including the hill entrance before the welcome center, and you will see an assortment of birds, monkeys, and perhaps other wildlife. The only thing I wish they would do is bring back the breakfast buffet.

Arenas Del Mar is the greatest hotel resort on earth. We loved it so much we went for a second time. The staff is incredible. Baby Sloth, Pink Panther, Yogi Bear, Sable, Freddy Kreuger, and Anono are the best! The breakfast is amazing. The guests are amazing. The beaches are amazing. The rooms are amazing. The wildlife is incredible. You will see monkeys, sloths, and ... if you are as lucky as we were ... the hatching of dozens of little turtles! We cannot wait to go back!
"A piece of paradise! "

My wife and I were visiting Costa Rica from Nov 23rd - Dec 6th for our 30th anniversary and spent the last 4 days at Arenas Del Mar in Manuel Antonio. From the moment we arrived we were treated like VIP's and when the hotel found out about the reason for trip, they upgraded us to a suite with no upcharge!! The staff couldn't have been friendlier and made it their purpose to ensure we wanted for nothing! ! I am unable to eat pineapple and called myself "Juan no Piña" which the wait/bar staff found so amusing that they had a hotel shirt made with a pineapple buster with the same phrase and presented it to me!! The rooms are incredible with fantastic beach views, the food was wonderful and "Angel" the bartenders drinks were some of the best I've had!! Our last day all the staff made an effort to wish us "Pura Vida" and seems as sad as us that we were leaving. . I would strongly recommend a stay at this resort as part of anyone's trip to Costa Rica!!
