"Great for family or couples..."
From arrival t departure, this hotel is 5 stars. The staff, the facilities, and most of all the location, are what memories are made of. The drive to the hotel in no way prepares you for what you will find when you arrive. We were treated to the best life has to offer. Don't miss out on this place if you are planning to stay in Manuel Antonio.Genuine Expedia guest review
The highlight of our trip to Costa Rica was our stay at Arenas Del Mar. I think the biggest key to their success is the amazing staff they have. Each person there made us feel like VIPs, and they were so genuinely kind and wanting to help us. I loved it!! One of them even came to our room to let us know when the monkeys were really near by because we […] had been wanting to see them. We saw WAY more wildlife on the property than we did at Manuel Antonio Park (I would suggest just skipping that!!!) The park is really convenient to get to - it's a 10 minute walk down the beach. Overall, loved this hotel and definitely recommend it to all my family and friends. Thank you, Elaine, Sergio, Alex, Rodbin, Ariel, Ronny, Pedro, and Yahaira , and the others that I may have forgotten!!!! We miss you guys already!!! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

We loved everything about this hotel!! Everyone was so friendly and gracious, always greeting us by our names. The restaurant was wonderful. The easy access to beach and surfing was awesome. The kids especially loved seeing the monkeys, sloths, iguanas hanging out at the property! Fun fun time. Would definitely come back again!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"The Honeymoon Costa Rica Destination"
We stayed at Arenas Del Mar for 5 nights for our honeymoon. We flew in late at night...so we stayed in San Jose for one night before making the trip out. It took 2hrs 45min to get to the hotel from San Jose in our rental car. The hotel is amazing - it's right in the jungle..but steps away from the beach. Need golf carts to get around...but once you […] call them, they come within minutes, so it's not a hassle. (You dont have to tip for each ride) The best part was the food - amazing continental breakfast - gourmet pancakes, french toast, burritos, "typical" costa rican breakfast dishes. We ate at the restaurant one night - amazing too. Happy hour everyday from 6-7pm at the bar (which closes at 10pm) - the drinks were amazing too. The area is great - drive up a steep hill, and you have world class restaurants just 5 minutes away driving (Kapi Kapi, Rafaels Terrazco, Salsipuedes). The place is just 10 min driving from a great national park - manuel antonio - and also 10 min away from awesome zip lining ($60 per person), and 15min driving away from a must-do mangrove forest boat ride. You must stay here! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Where else can you sit on a private beach, stay in a 5 star hotel and see monkeys on property!!! Great place to stay!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Best hotel stay I've ever had. The service was personal and impeccable. Though the hotel is located in a busy/ touristy area, it is quite secluded and feels rather private. Lovely beach. Incredible breakfast included with the room. Perfect place for a honeymoon or romantic getaway. Highly recommended!Genuine Expedia guest review

"Arenas del Mar"
This was a beautiful hotel. We loved our room, bed, tico bar, the beaches (which were so close and easy access compared to many other hotels in the area). The staff was so nice, all of the time and very helpful with tours. We would go back tomorrow if we could. the shower and comfy beds were outstanding. And the dinners in the evening were wonderful. […] Very tasty, gourmet meals. Only thing we didn't cre for was the "romantic dinner" meals at the Playitas beach one night. They were quite disappointing ...wished we 'd had eaten in the main restaurant again that night. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Arenas Del Mar, what a way to experience Costa Rica! This small hotel is truly amazing!! We flew into San Jose around 2pm and were on the road about 3:30 to begin our over 3 hour journey to Arenas Del Mar. We arrived after dark so we weren't really able to experience the beauty of this hotel. We were greeted by smiling faces and taken to our room by […] golf cart. We stayed in an ocean view suite and when we walked into the room we could hear the waves crashing but couldn't see anything when we looked out to the balcony. It wasn't until the next day when we opened the drapes that we were blown away. Our view was amazing!!! We sat on our balcony that morning watching monkeys in the trees with the ocean in the background. The food was out of this world. The grounds were simply beaurtiful and so clean. The wildlife was abundant ~ we saw monkeys, sloths, iguanas, birds, and lizards. Surprisingly it was not buggy. The weather could not have been more perfect. We had a great time learning Spanish with the staff who we will miss so much. I can't say enough for the people working at Arenas Del Mar, they are a special group of people. Being surrounded by genuinely kind, happy, friendly faces with a zest for life is in its own way magical. We cannot wait to go back!!! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"LOVED Arenas Del Mar and you will too!"
We LOVED our stay at Arenas. The website and description do not do this resort justice. Location is amazing although be prepared for a bit of a commute to get there as it's a 3 hour drive from San Jose. Or shorter flight via Sansa to Quepos, then 20 minute ride to resort. Arenas has two beaches, one of which is about as secluded and as private as you'll […] get in this country where all beaches must remain public. Also two beautiful pools, two great restaurants, and an amazing staff. We found the tours and prices (Mountain Tour, and Safari ZipLine Tour) to be much more reasonable than arranging for tours on our own. Great excursions offered including an on-site bird-watching and tortilla making experience. Even our college students enjoyed these activities once we got them off the beach! Nearby town of Quepos is fun for a short visit and the restaurants at Manual Antonio are fun and reasonably priced. Recommend the hotel restaurants as well; great service excellent food and we enjoyed the poolside tables for dinner and breakfast. Oh, and the breakfast that's included - amazing! Bowls of fresh fruit and pastry that changes every day, fresh juice, unlimited coffee, and a choice off their breakfast menu as well for more traditional egg, beans and rice, waffles, etc. Breakfast was enough food to carry us through until dinner. . Our Ocean Breeze room still had a ocean view, and was very comfortable with a huge bathroom and open shower. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

My husband and I just spent 2 weeks in Costa Rica and 4 nights at Arenas del Mar. This property is pretty amazing. We saw a ton of wildlife right on the premises including: monkies, sloths, iguanas, ducks, raccoons and even a scorpion. The views from the rooms are second to none. We had a blast swimming in the ocean. We thoroughly enjoyed breakfast […] and lunches at the restaurants. The dinners were good, but not exceptional. "Relaxing place to stay for couples or families"
I can't say enough about this hotel and its staff. The food was amazing, the staff were so incredibly helpful and friendly and the room was so comfortable. My husband and I travelled with our 1 year old and she was treated so well that it made our trip relaxing while allowing couples there without children to enjoy their quiet time. The hotel provided […] us with a crib, highchairs, toys for the beach, extra food while we waited for our meal in case our little one was a bit impatient..... The hotel went out of their way. The views from the Ocean View rooms were worth every extra penny. The massage at the spa was relaxing. The beach was clean and great for body boarding. Arenas del Mar took our breath away. We only stayed there a few nights because of the cost but it was the highlight of our trip. The rooms were great and the service was wonderful. The staff really went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed our stay there. The private beach is a real gem and guests can access a second beach and walk to downtown Manuel […] Antonio if they want. The only negative comment is the fact that we had to take a taxi to get to and from town, but it was not expensive so we wouldn't let that deter anyone from staying there. Amazing! We spent three nights here during a 17 day trip to Costa Rica - our honeymoon. Monkeys everywhere, staff was super friendly, the hotel premises were divine. A slice of paradise. Very private and super romantic. Take the nature hike with Roger into the national park. He is very knowledgable and friendly. He genuinely likes nature and we were […] lucky enough to spot sloths, monkeys, and even a snake! Once again the staff made this trip extra memorable as they were incredible hosts and welcomed us. They are all about the "pura vida". 100% worth every penny. One thing though, the premises is full of steep walks and a taxi is necessary to get to Manuel Antonio proper as well as to Quepos. As for getting around the hotel itself staff is readily drive you around in their many golf carts.

"Best Hotel Ever"
09/16/14 Oldnintendo Wilmington, Delaware
Stayed for 5 of 12 nights of our Honeymoon in Costa Rica. It was our last stop and it was head and shoulders above any other hotel we have EVER stayed at. Views, luxury, and paradise are understatements when describing this place. The staff were phenomenal - each and every one of them (from front desk to owners) welcomed us like family and we were genuinely happy the entire stay there. It is wonderfully hilly and the staff drive you around in golf carts if you wish to get to and from pools/beaches/car/etc. Beautiful easy walk along the water to Manuel Antonio Nat'l Park. Several beachfront restaurants and shops within walking distance. Breakfast every morning is AMAZING. There are multiple pools and bars and a nice happy hour each night that we enjoyed as well. The rooms were catered to twice daily and fridge is always stocked with local snack and juices and fresh coffee. I cannot say enough about the quality of this hotel. It is on the pricier side as we stayed in one of the premium oceanview rooms with a jacuzzi on the deck as a splurge but it was well worth the expense and we would do it again!! Pura Vida!!!!
"An amazing oasis of tranquility"
09/15/14 Rod R London, England, United Kingdom
We stayed at the Arenas Del Mar during a recent holiday to Costa Rica. The hotel is located in the rain forest and boast amazing ocean views and stunning wildlife to match. Rooms are immaculately clean and modern with a typically Costa Rican style. However what really makes this hotel special is the staff. from the moment we arrived until or departure nothing was too much trouble. the staff knew us all by name after our first meeting and they were all helpful and courteous without fail. The hotel offers a local shuttle for $8 one way and the team are very knowledgeable about the local attractions and places to eat etc. The hotel has its own beach and 2 pools along with one of the best restaurants in the region. We were actually a little sad to leave and would most certainly stay there again. My only slight criticism would be that there are no gym or leisure facilities ( there is a spa providing treatments) but I am informed that this is n the pipeline.
"Rainforest, beach combo - what more could you want"
09/15/14 CockyKK Dar Es Salaam Region, Tanzania
This hotel was recommended by sister company Kura Design and we were delighted with the choice. We arranged transfer from the airstrip to the hotel with the hotel - which I would recommend as there are not a lot of taxi's waiting for business outside. Probably a 10 minute drive to the hotel. From the time you enter the hotel premises till you leave you know you're in for a treat. The hotel is part of the CAYUGA eco-sustainable tourism - so do go on the complimentary tour to find out more on how they fit into the natural ambience of the rainforest they are situated in. There is also a complimentary Tortilla tour which was a fun way to get to learn more about the culture and food. The rooms are lovely, not huge but big enough to be enjoyable and have large balcony's where you can enjoy the magnificent views of the sea breaking below you or simply enjoy a bit of bird watching. In the afternoon the monkeys pop in to say hi - the room is monkey proof as long as you close the door and don't leave any food out. You don't need to take toiletries (shampoo, conditioner or body wash) as the rooms are equiped with biodegrable soap - so probably best you don't use your own. We didn't feel the need to leave the hotel - other than a plan excusion to Manuel Antonio - as they had internal birdwatching tours, night walks and many other external excusions for the those that have more days. You have a choice of either spending the day on their private beach, going for walks on the public beach, simply watching the surfers or spend the day around one of their pools. So plenty of variety, you can do as much or as little as you want. The food in the restaurants was great - lots of local options to try out the cuisine as well as a few more tourist options for those that don't want to be too adventurous. My hubby rated this spa as the best on our trip to Costa Rica so try it out. A big thanks to Ersel for sharing his birding enthusiasm - he has converted us to birders! Most importantly the service here was outstanding. Each person that we dealt with aimed to please if not exceed expectations. Thank-you to all the staff for making it such an outstanding holiday destination - we hope to be back.
"Outstanding service in a luxurious ecological setting"

I have never received service equal to what we experienced at Arenas del Mar. Each staff member made it a point to learn our names and use them at every contact we had. From check in registration to the restaurants and tour guide, we felt like we were with new friends. Photos on the hotel website do not do the actual resort justice. I knew it would be nice but when we arrived we were blown away by the rooms and views. The resort tour guide, Ersel, made our tours a lifetime experience with his extensive knowledge and enthusiasm for the local flora and fauna. He guided us on the Rainmaker hanging bridges tour, the Manuel Antonio Park tour and the night walk tour. We will miss him and the entire resort. It is a little pricey, but if you can stay here, do it!

Ocean views are out of this world and proximity to the park make for great early morning runs. Listening to the waves as you wake in the morning and as you fall asleep bring a true sense of well being. The staff is outstanding and always happy to help with anything. The best kept secret are the two restaurants. One provides table service on the beach for lunch! The other one serves wonderful breakfasts and out of this world dinners all while over looking the Pacific. The menu has a varied selection and is presented with great care. My favorite dinner was the slow roasted beet followed by a delicate tuna tataki and, of course, a lovely wine. Truly Delicious! You must go to this restaurant even if you are not staying at the hotel.
"A hidden gem"
09/09/14 Lawrence G Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
The Manuel Antonio region of Costa Rica is amazing in and of itself, but the Arenas Del Mar property truly is a hidden gem. When you travel into the town where this hotel is located, it honestly doesn't seem like much. The streets are narrow and windy and hilly. When you arrive at the gates of the property and get a glimpse of the view you realize that you're about to go somewhere special. Attendants drive you around the premises on golf carts due to the hills and distance between the amenities although they are still walkable. You are met with a wonderful welcome drink that was absolutely amazing. The staff is extremely friendly - probably the most friendly I encountered in the country. They are extremely knowledgeable too and even have power point presentations on the wildlife in the area. The hotel has a small amount of rooms, I believe 20 or less, and you actually feel like you are lone for the most part. There is a private beach that is absolutely gorgeous. There are no peddlers and the staff will wait on you on the beach. But watch your head! White faced monkeys climb through the trees above you as you lay below. Adjacent to the private beach is a pool and a small restaurant/bar. Up above on the hill is the main area of the hotel: a welcome area, restaurant, bar, pool and lounge area. The bartender was creating exciting cocktails with local and natural ingredients. The restaurant's menu was limited but the food was very good. Not exceptional, but still very good and better than what I ate outside the hotel. The view from the pool is just amazing and you can eat your breakfast there. There is a second beach that is open to the public that is much better suited for swimming and surfing as well. The hotel has surfboards to use and it is a great spot to learn. Although if you're looking for the best beach you've ever seen, take a short walk or hike into Manuel Antonio park. There is so much wildlife on display - sloths, monkeys in packs, birds, spiders, etc. About a mile into the park you get to the beach and it is just amazing. There are changing areas and showers and the beach can get a bit crowded, but nothing to the extent that you want to miss it. Keep an eye on your stuff there though since the monkeys will grab it, especially if it is food. Overall, the hotel was excellent. The rooms were a bit small but I didn't mind because you don't spend any time there. They have outdoor patios where the refrigerator and coffee makers are located which is a bit odd but neat at the same time. The bathroom could have been updated but it was very big for a bathroom. The room was clean and the only thing was that it smelled a bit damp - but hey, what do you expect being 50 feet from the ocean. I would definitely recommend this property and just wish I would have stayed there longer.
"Wonderful Property - Wonderful People"
09/04/14 Janet W Suffield, Connecticut
My family recently stayed 1 week at Arenas del Mar in August. What a wonderful resort! Location was perfectly nestled in the rain forest, along-side two beautiful beaches with warm water & fantastic waves! Our spacious ocean breeze suite (401) had a relaxing view of both rain forest and ocean from our balcony & spa. We had a short 5-minute walk from our room to the resort private beach and a 10-minute walk to the long public beach – both had great waves. The public beach offered surf lessons to which my 13-yr old and husband tried their hand/feet at. My son having much more success! Fortunately, when energy was zapped from our bodies from playing in the waves, we could catch a golf cart ride to relax at one of the two resort pools. It was nice to have two beach options, both readily accessible from the property. The property itself was home to many sloths, monkeys, iguanas, and raccoons. We didn't go a day without seeing something. The staff at Arenas was remarkable. From the moment we arrived we were greeted with big smiles and a resounding "Pura Vida!" – meaning “pure life” or “enjoy life”. The staff was incredibly friendly and very helpful with any questions or requests... from the wait staff, golf cart drivers, tour reservation desk, beach life guards to the onsite tour guides. Speaking of the tour guides, the property has fantastic tour guides onsite. They were very enthusiastic about sharing their love and knowledge of the rainforest, its animal inhabitants, Costa Rican culture or even the hotel's commitment to the environment and surrounding community. One tour guide in particular, Ersal, was very passionate about Costa Rica and its many natural treasures. His knowledge and personality kept the resort guests engaged…my sons hung to his every word. We ate most of our meals on property and were very pleased with the food. The wait staff was always attentive and happy to help with any special requests. We ate breakfast outside by the lobby pool and lunch by the lower pool off the private beach so the kids could dip into the pool. My husband joined a 6am workout group every day with a mix of staff and guests while the boys and I snoozed. The property only has around 40 rooms, so there's definitely a more family/intimate feel...which we found very relaxing and enjoyable. After spending a week at Arenas del Mar, we stayed 2 nights at the Marriott in San Jose. I can say the staff at Arenas was definitely friendlier and seemed to truly enjoy the interaction with the guests as compared to Marriott. It really was a wonderful stay in paradise. We plan to return!
"Paradise for nature lovers!"
09/03/14 Ron M Lake Oswego, Oregon
We stayed here for 4 nights, and it wasn't nearly long enough. We paid for a top floor ocean view room, and it is the first time that I can say that the extra money for the better view was worth it! The view from our balcony was outstanding, and I could have spent the whole vacation just sitting on my balcony watching the waves and enjoying the birds and other wildlife that fluttered by. I'm not sure if we were lucky or if it was normal, but we had a troupe of monkeys go through the trees right outside out balcony, and one day we looked up and saw a sloth in the tree. The hotel is in the middle of heavily developed Manuel Antonio, but it has 11 acres of its own land, so you feel like you are in the middle of the rainforest rather than being on an overdeveloped stretch of beach. There is a private beach with pretty intense waves. They were really fun to play in, although probably too much for younger children. I even got caught up in one once as it tumbled me around a bit until I was able to surface. The restaurant is beautiful and the food is good, although this is possibly one of the downsides of the place as well. The relative isolation of the hotel makes it a bit difficult to try and dine anywhere else. While the food is good, after 4 nights I was ready to try something different.
"Great Property & People"

Arenas del Mar's property had it all. Beach access, trails to walk, easy to find sloths-monkeys-lizards-crabs, food is excellent, staff is extrememly friendly-kind-accomodating-and happy to answer questions about Costa Rica and let you practice your Spanish on them. They welcome you with a drink, have umbrellas stationed everywhere for the afternoon showers during rainy season. They were happy to coordinate on time picks ups with the excursion/tours and transportation I booked through other companies. You can walk pretty much anywhere. They also have shuttle services to bring you to other restaurants and shopping areas. I would very highly recommend this hotel for couples as well as families. The rooms were very clean, air conditioned, fully stocked mini bar, spacious bathroom. The hotel was fully booked and you would never know it- it was very peacful.
This place was amazing, from the staff to the beautiful, well maintained grounds to the awesome rooms! First class all around. My family and I had the best vacation there and would definitely go back. We stayed for a week in June and the weather was perfect! Pura Vida!
