The highlight of our trip to Costa Rica was our stay at Arenas Del Mar. I think the biggest key to their success is the amazing staff they have. Each person there made us feel like VIPs, and they were so genuinely kind and wanting to help us. I loved it!! One of them even came to our room to let us know when the monkeys were really near by because we […] had been wanting to see them. We saw WAY more wildlife on the property than we did at Manuel Antonio Park (I would suggest just skipping that!!!) The park is really convenient to get to - it's a 10 minute walk down the beach. Overall, loved this hotel and definitely recommend it to all my family and friends. Thank you, Elaine, Sergio, Alex, Rodbin, Ariel, Ronny, Pedro, and Yahaira , and the others that I may have forgotten!!!! We miss you guys already!!! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

We loved everything about this hotel!! Everyone was so friendly and gracious, always greeting us by our names. The restaurant was wonderful. The easy access to beach and surfing was awesome. The kids especially loved seeing the monkeys, sloths, iguanas hanging out at the property! Fun fun time. Would definitely come back again!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"The Honeymoon Costa Rica Destination"
We stayed at Arenas Del Mar for 5 nights for our honeymoon. We flew in late at night...so we stayed in San Jose for one night before making the trip out. It took 2hrs 45min to get to the hotel from San Jose in our rental car. The hotel is amazing - it's right in the jungle..but steps away from the beach. Need golf carts to get around...but once you […] call them, they come within minutes, so it's not a hassle. (You dont have to tip for each ride) The best part was the food - amazing continental breakfast - gourmet pancakes, french toast, burritos, "typical" costa rican breakfast dishes. We ate at the restaurant one night - amazing too. Happy hour everyday from 6-7pm at the bar (which closes at 10pm) - the drinks were amazing too. The area is great - drive up a steep hill, and you have world class restaurants just 5 minutes away driving (Kapi Kapi, Rafaels Terrazco, Salsipuedes). The place is just 10 min driving from a great national park - manuel antonio - and also 10 min away from awesome zip lining ($60 per person), and 15min driving away from a must-do mangrove forest boat ride. You must stay here! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Best hotel stay I've ever had. The service was personal and impeccable. Though the hotel is located in a busy/ touristy area, it is quite secluded and feels rather private. Lovely beach. "Arenas del Mar"
This was a beautiful hotel. We loved our room, bed, tico bar, the beaches (which were so close and easy access compared to many other hotels in the area). The staff was so nice, all of the time and very helpful with tours. We would go back tomorrow if we could. the shower and comfy beds were outstanding. And the dinners in the evening were wonderful. […] Very tasty, gourmet meals. Only thing we didn't cre for was the "romantic dinner" meals at the Playitas beach one night. They were quite disappointing ...wished we 'd had eaten in the main restaurant again that night. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Arenas Del Mar, what a way to experience Costa Rica! This small hotel is truly amazing!! We flew into San Jose around 2pm and were on the road about 3:30 to begin our over 3 hour journey to Arenas Del Mar. We arrived after dark so we weren't really able to experience the beauty of this hotel. We were greeted by smiling faces and taken to our room by […] golf cart. We stayed in an ocean view suite and when we walked into the room we could hear the waves crashing but couldn't see anything when we looked out to the balcony. It wasn't until the next day when we opened the drapes that we were blown away. Our view was amazing!!! We sat on our balcony that morning watching monkeys in the trees with the ocean in the background. The food was out of this world. The grounds were simply beaurtiful and so clean. The wildlife was abundant ~ we saw monkeys, sloths, iguanas, birds, and lizards. Surprisingly it was not buggy. The weather could not have been more perfect. We had a great time learning Spanish with the staff who we will miss so much. I can't say enough for the people working at Arenas Del Mar, they are a special group of people. Being surrounded by genuinely kind, happy, friendly faces with a zest for life is in its own way magical. We cannot wait to go back!!! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"LOVED Arenas Del Mar and you will too!"
We LOVED our stay at Arenas. The website and description do not do this resort justice. Location is amazing although be prepared for a bit of a commute to get there as it's a 3 hour drive from San Jose. Or shorter flight via Sansa to Quepos, then 20 minute ride to resort. Arenas has two beaches, one of which is about as secluded and as private as you'll […] get in this country where all beaches must remain public. Also two beautiful pools, two great restaurants, and an amazing staff. We found the tours and prices (Mountain Tour, and Safari ZipLine Tour) to be much more reasonable than arranging for tours on our own. Great excursions offered including an on-site bird-watching and tortilla making experience. Even our college students enjoyed these activities once we got them off the beach! Nearby town of Quepos is fun for a short visit and the restaurants at Manual Antonio are fun and reasonably priced. Recommend the hotel restaurants as well; great service excellent food and we enjoyed the poolside tables for dinner and breakfast. Oh, and the breakfast that's included - amazing! Bowls of fresh fruit and pastry that changes every day, fresh juice, unlimited coffee, and a choice off their breakfast menu as well for more traditional egg, beans and rice, waffles, etc. Breakfast was enough food to carry us through until dinner. . Our Ocean Breeze room still had a ocean view, and was very comfortable with a huge bathroom and open shower. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Best. Hotel. Ever."
This hotel is amazing. It's set on amazing grounds with its own private beach and access to the public beach, as well as views of the Pacific Ocean and Manuel Antonio National Park. We saw 2 sloths on the property, many lizards, and a few monkeys. The entire staff here is unbelievable!!! They made us feel like part of the family from the start. They […] helped us with our spanish, got to know us over the course of our stay, and always made sure we were comfortable and happy. The food is something I will be dreaming of for years to come. The rooms are spacious and immaculate, and the beds and linens are 5-star. This hotel made our trip to Costa Rica complete and my husband and I can't wait to return! My husband and I just spent 2 weeks in Costa Rica and 4 nights at Arenas del Mar. This property is pretty amazing. I can't say enough about this hotel and its staff. The food was amazing, the staff were so incredibly helpful and friendly and the room was so comfortable. My husband and I travelled with our 1 year old and she was treated so well that it made our trip relaxing while allowing couples there without children to enjoy their quiet time. The hotel provided […] us with a crib, highchairs, toys for the beach, extra food while we waited for our meal in case our little one was a bit impatient..... The hotel went out of their way. The views from the Ocean View rooms were worth every extra penny. The massage at the spa was relaxing. The beach was clean and great for body boarding. Arenas del Mar took our breath away. We only stayed there a few nights because of the cost but it was the highlight of our trip. The rooms were great and the service was wonderful. The staff really went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed our stay there. The private beach is a real gem and guests can access a second beach and walk to downtown Manuel […] Antonio if they want. Amazing! We spent three nights here during a 17 day trip to Costa Rica - our honeymoon. Monkeys everywhere, staff was super friendly, the hotel premises were divine. A slice of paradise. Very private and super romantic. Take the nature hike with Roger into the national park. He is very knowledgable and friendly. He genuinely likes nature and we were […] lucky enough to spot sloths, monkeys, and even a snake! Once again the staff made this trip extra memorable as they were incredible hosts and welcomed us. They are all about the "pura vida". 100% worth every penny. One thing though, the premises is full of steep walks and a taxi is necessary to get to Manuel Antonio proper as well as to Quepos. "Best so Far!"

Let me start by saying that I have traveled the world and stayed in many resorts over the past 30 years. I can honestly say that the level of service from the staff at Arenas Del Mar along with the beautiful resort, is by far the best I have experienced, EVER. There was never a time where any staff member was not more than pleasant to speak with and work with. I am pretty sure they don't know the meaning of "no" or "we cant do that". They treated us like royalty every day at all times. They accommodated us for everything we needed including having a physician come to our room and provide stitches to my mother when she accidentally fell and cut her head on one of our excursions. The rooms were fabulous. Well maintained, clean, and exceptionally comfortable. There is a private beach with beautiful rocks and waves. There are monkeys and other animals on the property. They were fun to watch and if you couldn't find what you wanted to see, the staff would take you to find one. The food at Arenas Del Mar was exceptional. Fresh fruit at breakfast every morning along with an unbelievable menu. The drinks are made well and you don't feel like you are being cheated with watered down sugary drinks like some other resorts I have visited. If you want to leave and experience Costa Rica, the staff will make everything happen for you and provided us with fantastic guides and trips. We could not have asked for a better vacation and we will certainly be back. I highly recommend Arenas Del Mar.
"Amazing service, wildlife and relaxation!!"

This was my third trip to Manuel Antonio, and Arenas del Mar is by far the best place to stay! It's pricey but it is really worth it. When I first contacted Francinie in reservations, I knew I made the right choice. She handled all of our requests and answered all of our questions promptly and professionally. All the reviews talk about the amazing staff and they lived up to all of the accolades! Friendly, professional, hard working and efficient. The rooms are immaculate, the laundry service was perfect and the complimentary mini bar is a plus. All the buildings have their own advantages but all blend into the property and are visited by the incredible wildlife. We spent the entire week at Arenas and saw all three monkey species, sloth, Fiery-Bellier Aracari, Mot Mot, a variety of tanagers, woodpeckers, Tent Maker Bats, crabs, lizards and even a Kinkajou!!!…seriously a dream check list of sightings and all within the first 2 days!! There are 38 rooms but it never felt crowded. We quite often had the pool to ourselves and the beaches felt private and safe, too. The food is great, and is served with a smile. Luis and Harold remembered our likes and dislikes and made us feel like we were regulars at our favorite restaurant. Georgette is a great bartender and accommodated any request we had for a unique drink. Ersel is a extraordinary nature guide. His enthusiasim was contagious and he pointed out animals I would have walked right by without him. He even showed us a Kinkajou and a Potoo! Rodbin seemed to do everything at Arenas and was always there to take care of us. Everyone, including Andres, Allen, Sergio, Pedro and Heiner, all really made our trip special. Seriously, the entire staff work so hard, they are there after you go to bed and are in the restaurant first thing in the morning. I enjoyed talking to them on our golf cart rides or while watching the ever present sloth at reception. Kudos to the people that hire and train the staff because EVERYONE is great. I recommend you take the time to talk with them as they take pride in talking about their country and it is a great way to learn more about their culture. If I could make a suggestion to the hotel, the only things I would recommend them to consider is add some appetizers to their Happy Hour and also have a Happy Hour down at the Playitas bar. The dinner menu does feel limited if you spend more than a few days so a daily special would be nice. Also, a beach BBQ once or twice a week would be nice….some fish tacos at their private beach would be perfect! I would highly recommend this resort to anyone going to Costa Rica as it has something for everyone. I look forward to going back as soon as possible. Pura VIda!
"Where the Rainforest meets the waves!"

Beautiful hotel. Staff was very attentive (even when the FIFA match was on). This a very unique hotel in that it's actually in part of the Manuel Antonio park. Sloths, howler monkeys & raccoons everywhere. Our first night we were in the living room with the kids and the sliding glass door opens up and in comes this raccoon! Not like the ones here. This little guy just checked us out and left, without closing the door behind him. We were warned about the monkeys. We had a howler monkey do a face plant just outside of our room. Poor guy, he was swinging from a branch and the next branch snapped sending him onto what very little concrete they have there. The room was wonderful, huge bathroom with a shower that makes you feel like your under a waterfall. Complimentary "Tico" bar in the room (has chips, water, juice). The balcony was huge with an outdoor bathtub with jets, large sofa on one side, table with chairs in the middle and 2 lounge chairs on the other side. The balcony kind of wraps around the room giving you beautiful views, of the ocean and rainforest, from everywhere but the shower! This property has two beaches, both wonderful. Strong currents, so watch the water before you go in. Huge waves the last day we were there (husbands IPro got some good shots when he got caught in the spin cycle of a wave). They have boards there and you can get lessons. Golf carts take you to and from the beach. Really can't say enough good things about this place!

My husband and I just returned from our first trip to CR and we loved it. Arenas del Mar exceeded our expectations in every way. We had an ocean view suite in building 6 and it was spectacular. Clean, comfortable and spacious especially the bathroom. The daily Tico snacks and juices were much appreciated. The staff was very friendly , remembered our names and generally went out of their way to make our trip memorable. One evening we took advantage of their shuttle and went into town for dinner at Ronny's. Our driver was Robin and he told us to have the restaurant call them when we were ready and that he got off at 10:00. We went to dinner with another couple and were enjoying drinks and basically closed the place down. We forgot about calling for our ride but sure enough there was Robin back to get us . The property is absolutely stunning and you will see plenty of monkeys , sloths , iguanas , crabs etc. One morning we were woken up by Howler monkeys right outside our room. The beach access is fabulous and both beach areas were great. The food in both restaurants was excellent and you must try the breakfast burrito. We will definitely return to Arenas del Mar and next time bring our two teenagers.
"The best of everything!"
07/03/14 Pecadora Richmond, Virginia
We just returned from an incredible 7 day stay at Arenas del Mar. I traveled with my husband and 3 children ages 10-16. This resort truly has the best of everything. First of all, the location is fabulous. Located just minutes away from Manuel Antonio national park, there are 3 species of monkeys, several sloths, toucans, iguanas, and more on the hotel grounds. The resort offers access to 2 beaches, and the rooms are perched on the hills to offer spectacular ocean views. Expect to walk up a few flights of stairs for the best views (it’s worth it, and you’ll get some exercise). For those not inclined to walk up and down the hills, golf carts are always available to take guests from place to place. The grounds are amazingly lush and full of wildlife. When we arrived, 2 large sloths and a baby were up in the trees by the reception desk. On several occasions, we were able to watch troops of squirrel and capuchin monkeys traveling through the trees. Definitely sign up for the evening nature walk! The resort guide, Ersel, will lead you through jungle trails to see bats, crabs, spiders, and other wildlife. The rooms are clean and spacious. While I would not describe them as ultra-luxurious, I found them to be very upscale for an eco-friendly resort. The showers are enormous! The outdoor decks are very large and feature jacuzzi tubs. Each room has a mini-fridge with complimentary snacks and juices. International phone calls are free from the land lines, and wifi signal is excellent in the guest rooms and pool areas. I particularly enjoyed the set-up for 2 adults and 3 kids. We stayed in rooms 503A&B, so we had 2 adjoining suites. We simply left the 2 interior doors open to make one big living area. We had 2 private bedrooms with king beds and huge bathrooms, as well as a living room with a couch which pulled out to a full bed. Since the living area had its own bathroom, we had 3 full bathrooms in total (a HUGE plus when traveling with kids). Since the food at the resort was incredible, we felt no need to travel into town for meals. Breakfast is included and features wonderful fresh fruits, amazing coffee, and just about anything you’d like made to order. Lunch is served by the lower pool/beach area. This was the kids’ favorite meal as the lunch menu is more casual and the atmosphere very laid back. The dinner menu was my personal favorite, with sophisticated offerings of fresh fish and local produce. I was REALLY impressed with the quality of the food. I have a few food allergies, which can make travelling a nightmare, and the staff never let me down. One of the best things about the resort is the location. Since the property is waterfront, guests can enjoy both the beach and the jungle. Travel time to activities outside the resort range from a few minutes (to the national park) to 30 minutes (to zip lines) to 45 minutes (to horseback riding or white water rafting). We had an absolute blast enjoying the many excursions offered. My family enjoys lounging by the pool but also loves adventure, so this really was the perfect vacation. Finally, what really makes Arenas del Mar special is the staff. I have never met such a warm, kind, and friendly group of people. So many thanks to Heiner, Laura, Allan, Ersel, Angel, Luis, and everyone who made our visit so wonderful. I only wish I could remember everyone’s name, because I am forgetting so many others (I’m sorry!) who went out of their way to make us happy. I hope we can visit again soon. Pura Vida!

My daughter and I stayed in June. Out of the three places we stayed, this was the best. The beach is to die for and the staff was incredibly warm and helpful. We saw more wildlife here than any other place we stayed. Luis took great care of us at lunch and dinner and even sought us out at the beach and brought us drinks. Alex was so sweet calling us "chickas" and running us around on the carts. The food was the best we had in CR. The bed was amazing. So comfortable. The reasons for less than five stars was the spotty internet, and the jets did not work in our Jacuzzi. We will be coming back.

Stayed 3 nights with husband and four year old son as part of 8 day Cr trip. We had just come from the Springs resort in Arenal so were a bit disappointed at first with Arenas. We had an ocean view suite. The rooms are nice but high end luxurious like Springs. Tile floors, plain furniture. The location is great though. Our room was right next to the bottom pool (good for kids) and the private beach. There are two restaurants, one for breakfast and dinner and one for lunch. Food is ok but pricey. Service is excellent. You're taken on golf carts around the steep, hilly property so meet a lot of the staff. Had a live band at dinner one night, fun events and themed cocktails for World Cup games, and a special dinner menu one night. Took the resort's shuttle service to lunch in town once. Nice place!

My husband and I stayed here for a few nights on our honeymoon and loved every second. We stayed in an Ocean View Premium Suite and it was perfection: huge balcony with a hot tub overlooking the ocean. Room as clean and had a giant bathroom which we loved...just remember to keep the windows and doors closed otherwise monkeys will get in! Food was great and the beach is excellent. There were two that we visited, one public and one private. Both were great and the people were super nice. You can also walk down the public beach to the nearby town and take a tour of Manuel Antonio National Park which was beautiful. The staff was amazing and treated us like family. They knew us by name and suggested activities based on our personalities. It was hard to leave and we can't wait to go back!

I recently returned from Arenas Del Mar, and must say that my experience was fabulous. From the moment they picked me up at the airport, all the way to my return, back to the airport. Let me give you the highlights - 1. Eating breakfast at the upstairs restaurant. The food was amazing. They start you off with fresh fruit, and homemade juices and coffees. Delicous!!! When the entree comes out, all I can say is wow. The local dishes were excellent. One morning while eating breakfast, the local troop of monkeys litteraly ran through. It was awesome. My wife and I both stopped eating and just looked at them with sheer wonder. I am still amazed how close they come. 2. Watching the world cup and having the resident sloth of the beach area come down to do his weekly business. I never in a million years thought I would get so close. The whole downstairs restaurant litteraly paused and stopped to take pictures. 3. The sun comes up insanely early. One morning I got up early and went out to the deck. A monkey was standing on the ledge of my balcony. 4. The showers in the room are wonderful. Nice high pressure shower in a giant open space. Just really great design of the bathroom through and through. I was pleased. 5. Providing rides to get up and down the mountain. Yes Arenas Del Mar sits atop a small mountain/cliff top.....to get to the beach (if you are staying in one of the rooms at the top of mountain) you have to walk down this giant hill. The walk down is not bad at all. The walk up sucked (especially when you are tanked). After my second walk up, I took advantage of the ride. I was pleasantly surprised with the timeliness and promptness of the pickup. Definitely dont make my mistake. Request the ride - It is available and great option to go up the mountain. 6. If you are a nature lover, you definitely want to take advantage of the tours of the property. The array of flora and fauna on property is stunning. Our tour guide for our tour was Ersel (-may have mis-spelled it). Anyway we also did another tour of another site, and Ersel was our guide again!!!! Wow this guy amazed me with his knowledge and his sheer passion for his job!!!! Definitely get a tour with Ersel if you can....he is really really good! I totally see him getting his own TV show on discovery channel someday!!!!! As for gripes, I have one minor one (which frankly I am not sure is the resorts fault)....the internet speed in the room is on par with 56k modem speeds. For checking email that is fine, but for streaming video not so much. Again, I dont think this anything the resort can control. I am assuming due to the resort's remoteness from a major city hub, it is the best speed they can provide. And finally my last bit of advise....obviously if you are visiting Arenas Del Mar, you are probably planning on visiting Manual Antonio National Park-this park was good but the sheer crowds made this not as good an experience as it could have been. My fiancee and I had a much better time at Rainmaker forest. Rainmaker is not as crowded, and you get a much better perspective of wildlife I thought. You also get to experience the hanging bridges here...which was just sheer fun, and a waterfall at the end (- For purposes of full disclosure I should mention that at Manual Antonio you end at a beach)! Finally to summarize our experience, We loved it and look forward to returning someday soon in the future!
"Setting and services is outstanding"
06/30/14 bubba65 california
After a four hour ride to get to the hotel, my first impression was not positive. We arrived to a small area which was not inviting and you could not see the hotel or beach. However, that impression changed quickly. The people were excellent and the hotel was nice. The view from the room was outstanding. The services was perfect, the hotel went out of their way to have a small surprise for the granddaughter whose birthday was coming up a few days later. It was great to have the animals in the area to see. The only negative is that the rooms are beginning to show their age. They need a paint job and for the tile floors to be steam cleaned.
