"Amazing romantic getaway"
This was the most wonderful hotel experience we have had in years. The staff was professional, helpful, considerate..all around amazing people. The hotel was gorgeous In nature. The wildlife goes beyond your "wildest" dreams. If you allow yourself, you'll be submerged in the jungle and the beach!

"STAY HERE IN MANUEL ANTONIO"
Luxury amenities, ideal location, superlative service. The ONLY hotel in M.A. w/ DIRECT BEACH ACCESS. Other hotels provide "shuttles" and bring you to the busy center of town for beach access. At Arenas you don’t need to pack to go to the beach! Its beach is the northern end of the long chain of beaches, pristine and quiet. Request the section hotel Playitas beach. The hotel has 68 rooms, and a staff of nearly 100, facilitating CONNECTION. You get to know cart drivers, waiters, tour guides, and receptionists who share their knowledge and love of country. You’ll get to know about their families and dreams for the future. On the free tortilla tour, naturalist Roger took us to the outdoor staff cafeteria to make tortillas with staff Mama Dona Lisa. We sat with her, Roger , and other staff members. When we checked in, my husband mentioned he likes tamales. Our host said tamales were not available. One afternoon after a day on the beach, we returned to our room, and in our refrigerator were four gorgeous tamales! Everyone is a naturalist. We asked waiter William what type of tree we were sitting under. He identified the almond tree and bent down and picked up three big seeds - one immature, one maturing, and one with an almond inside! With perfect location, impeccable service, new friends, and learning about the environment, relaxation naturally follows. Our stay at Arenas del Mar was perfect. It’s THE hotel of choice in Manuel Antonio.

"The best eco-luxe rainforest and beach experience"
I've traveled extensively and have stayed in the best hotels worldwide. I like authentic experiences. Arenas delivered - it's true to the rainforest and beach atmosphere with it's layout, design and architecture which seamlessly fits into the beautiful landscape. Perfect in every way for me to experience the best of Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica - eco-chic, great service, character driven, great location, private, incredibly comfortable, quiet, good food. Will def book again in Costa Rica.

Nice recluded resort with beautiful ocean views. However, the Superior Room was very small to accommodate 2 people (for couple guests) - no desk with chairs - making it uncomfortable. "Great Resort"
The Hotel was built into the rain-forest with lush tropical trees and vegetation everywhere. Lots of wildlife, monkeys, sloths, ect... You can relax on beach or pool. You are taken by electric cart wherever you would like to go on the premises. No waiting, you call and they are usually waiting for you when you come out of your room. Staff are wonderful. Only complaint is we couldn't stay longer. Did I mention there's a personal hot-tub on the huge patio.

From arrival t departure, this hotel is 5 stars. The staff, the facilities, and most of all the location, are what memories are made of. The drive to the hotel in no way prepares you for what you will find when you arrive. We were treated to the best life has to offer. Don't miss out on this place if you are planning to stay in Manuel Antonio.

"PARADISE."
The highlight of our trip to Costa Rica was our stay at Arenas Del Mar. I think the biggest key to their success is the amazing staff they have. Each person there made us feel like VIPs, and they were so genuinely kind and wanting to help us. I loved it!! One of them even came to our room to let us know when the monkeys were really near by because we had been wanting to see them. We saw WAY more wildlife on the property than we did at Manuel Antonio Park (I would suggest just skipping that!!!) The park is really convenient to get to - it's a 10 minute walk down the beach. Overall, loved this hotel and definitely recommend it to all my family and friends. Thank you, Elaine, Sergio, Alex, Rodbin, Ariel, Ronny, Pedro, and Yahaira , and the others that I may have forgotten!!!! We miss you guys already!!!

"Amazing Wildlife at Resort"
My husband and I just spent 2 weeks in Costa Rica and 4 nights at Arenas del Mar. This property is pretty amazing. We saw a ton of wildlife right on the premises including: monkies, sloths, iguanas, ducks, raccoons and even a scorpion. The views from the rooms are second to none. We had a blast swimming in the ocean. We thoroughly enjoyed breakfast and lunches at the restaurants. The dinners were good, but not exceptional. If you are looking for a unique boutique property and love wildlife this is the place for you.

"Relaxing place to stay for couples or families"
I can't say enough about this hotel and its staff. The food was amazing, the staff were so incredibly helpful and friendly and the room was so comfortable. My husband and I travelled with our 1 year old and she was treated so well that it made our trip relaxing while allowing couples there without children to enjoy their quiet time. The hotel provided us with a crib, highchairs, toys for the beach, extra food while we waited for our meal in case our little one was a bit impatient..... The hotel went out of their way. The views from the Ocean View rooms were worth every extra penny. The massage at the spa was relaxing. The beach was clean and great for body boarding. You can walk along the beach to the entrance of Manuel Antonio park (recommended).

Without a doubt, the best resort we have ever been to. Not only was it in an beautiful location and built to a very high standard but the staff were simply incredible. Their attention to detail and genuine friendliness made our experience the most fantastic we've had on any vacation. The room was amazing, the food excellent, and the fact that the resort operated with high attention given to sustainability and environmental impact was a huge plus. A special thank you to Allen and Rodbin who went above and beyond. If I could give it 6 stars I would!

Arenas del Mar took our breath away. We only stayed there a few nights because of the cost but it was the highlight of our trip. The rooms were great and the service was wonderful. The staff really went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed our stay there. The private beach is a real gem and guests can access a second beach and walk to downtown Manuel Antonio if they want. The only negative comment is the fact that we had to take a taxi to get to and from town, but it was not expensive so we wouldn't let that deter anyone from staying there.

"Perfection!"
08/27/15 Tessa A Oakville, Canada
Our family of 5; Mom, Dad and a 20 year old girl, 16 year old boy and 14 year old boy just returned from 7 days at the unparalleled Arenas Del Mar. Our goal for the trip was a lot of quality downtime mixed with great food, great service, beautiful views and that extra something special; the rainforest and all the magic it has to offer. Visiting Costa Rica and trusting Arenas Del Mar accomplished all of this; massively exceeding our expectations. We decided to fly Sansa Airlines from San Jose to Quepos (20 minutes long) so we could begin our 'relax' asap. Door to door from Toronto to ADM took only 8 hours. The first few days we were so fortunate to view a myriad of jungle life right outside our suite, right on the beach and while walking to breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food was delicious; each menu offering a little something familiar to Canadians as well as many local delicacies. Whenever we asked to go off the menu a bit, we were met with complete cooperation. After a deep sea fishing trip, we brought home 4 white fish Barracuda and asked Chef Mikey from the Playitas Restaurant to prepare a few variations. Our lunch was spectacular and capped off another terrific day. All of the staff were completely lovely, kind, funny, well-informed and happy to appeal to our every need - what an absolute treat. Within a 20 minute walk along the beach, our 3 teenaged kids had the freedom to visit a small beach strip of restaurants and local shops (part of Manuel Antonio proper) which was a great option during any day. One evening, the resort offered up live music with a fantastic acoustic guitarist from Peru and his Costa Rican percussionist - they were really, really talented. All of the staff from Jenny to Luis to Adrian to Bryan to Angel to Andreas and of course; our very favourite; Kener were seriously 5 star and made what was already a pristine setting, the icing on the cake. Thank you Costa Rica and thank you Arenas Del Mar for an unforgettable escape from reality. Pura Vida! The Follows Family (Heidi, Mark, Tessa, Henry and Jack)

"Way beyond expectations"
08/27/15 Kelly F
My husband and I chose Arenas Del Mar for our honeymoon. Though pricey, it was the only place I could find in Costa Rica (really!) that offered a beachfront location and a rainforest location in one. So we decided to splurge, and I am so glad we did. I travel a lot (about 4-5 international trips a year) and have stayed in plenty of hotels, but have never felt compelled to write a review until now. I've never stayed somewhere that is as invested in their guests as the staff at Arenas del Mar was, and this personal connection is just one of the things that set the place apart. THE ROOMS: we were in 601 which had a great ocean view, and was spacious and private. The pictures online do not do the rooms justice. They are clean and well-appointed, and so comfortable. THE FOOD: My husband and I remarked about 1000 times a day at how this was the best food we had ever had in a hotel, ever. It's not cheap, but I'd rather pay more and eat like we did for the entire 8 days, especially since the hotel is very private and so eating on site was always the best option. Plus, the setting made it hard to want to leave (the Mirador restaurant boasted a bird's eye view of the beach, and the Playitas was, well, on the beach!). We also are vegetarians and never had any problems with this. The variety of food was great and didn't have a bad meal the whole time. Also, the included breakfast was on the same level as the food that we paid for. I really couldn't get over how good everything was, though favorites were the Mahi Gallos (at lunch) and the snook (at dinner). They even gave us free dessert one night to commemorate our honeymoon. That brings me to... THE STAFF: Everyone knew our name and took amazing care of us. Pedro, one of the waiters, took time to talk with us a lot and get to know us. He even called me in my room one day when there was a baby sloth on the beach, because he knew I wanted to see one. Chucha, the bartender, took great care of us as well. Sergio, one of the concierge, even cleaned my wounds when I got hurt one of the excursions. It really felt like these people wanted to connect to their guests and ensure that they had a good time, and I believe that desire came from the fact that they enjoyed their jobs and working at Arenas del Mar. THE AREA: in 8 days we saw the best of costa rica-- at least 50 species of animals, gorgeous sunsets and ocean views, plants, waterfalls, mangroves... and never had to venture far. It's worth the money and we will definitely be back (ASAP!)

"Exceptional"

The hotel is superbly located and overlooks the Pacific ocean, being well hidden in the rainforest near the Manuel Antonio national park. The main lobby and restaurant (and a first swimming pool) are located in the upper part of the resort (at the top of the hillside), and a second bar/restaurant (and a second swimming pool) is located on the (private) beach. Suites are clean and spacious, include a jacuzzi on the terrace, and can be often visited by the local wildlifed (raccoons and monkeys). The cuisine is OK but not exceptional, but the cocktails at the beach bar were great! Staff, like often in Costa Rica, is very welcoming and professional.

We ended our visit to Costa Rica at Arenas del Mar and what a way to do it. The rooms are lovely and well appointed. The food is excellent as are all the staff, but the best thing by far for us was the amount of wildlife around. We were lucky enough to see several sloths, about 15 Howler Monkeys playing one afternoon and putting on a show for us and then about 30 Squirrel monkeys playing just outside our room one morning. We would have watched this for about 20 minutes until the finally went on their way. This experience in itself is priceless. I will always have fantastic memories of our stay here and will most certainly be back in the future.

We stayed here during our honeymoon and we are so glad we did! This place has spectacular views and great food. But the best part was the people who worked there. The staff was super friendly and willing to help you with whatever you needed. They show you the surrounding wildlife during the golf cart rides (which are a really fun part of this resort), help you pick the best places to eat in town, and just overall make sure you are having a wonderful time. We are already planning to go back. This is the best place to stay in Manuel Antonio so don't miss it!

"A Mix of Rainforest, Beach and Good Times"
08/17/15 Chris D Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
One of the really unique things about Arenas del Mar is that it really does combine being in the rainforest with great access to the beach. It's near a great little town in Manuel Antonio and has a variety of things nearby - from the Manuel Antonio National Park to the beach to the marina one town over. The hotel itself is spread out, which, depending on where you're going requires a good deal of golf carting up and down the hill, but the staff is extremely friendly and accommodating (and quick with the carts!). It honestly worked out better than expected. The private beach is nice since it's near a hotel bar, but it's honestly not a beach to go in the surf as it can get pretty rough and the shore is rocky. The public beach is much more accommodating, though it's an additional few minutes of walking. The rooms in the hotel admittedly have a little bit of a retro feel but the focus is on what's going on outside, and there's plenty. A ton of animals to see (and frequent) and then there's the nearby park. the town itself has a good number of small restaurants with really good food and the restaurant offers a shuttle to take you where you need to (walking to town is not an option) - just a side note that the shuttle does cost a few dollars each time.

"A definite four star resort"
08/17/15 VABuckeye_Girl Richmond, Virginia
My husband and I stayed here recently. It is a beautiful property, very clean, and the staff goes out of their way to always address you by name. (Impressive!) And you you can't beat the view, it is definitely the "wow" factor. (We also splurged for a ocean view room, just could not get enough of that view!). The breakfast (which is included) is also first class, you order from a menu, so it is made to order. They also start you off with a fresh fruit plate, and the pineapple melts in your mouth (the pineapple I get at the store is a sad imitation of the real thing). While I would def recommend the property, and would stay there again, in my mind a couple items keep me from giving it five stars. One afternoon, my husband and I went down to the public beach. While it is a public beach, the property does put out lounge chairs for it's guests. But the day that we were there, I counted six chairs. Sadly that is not nearly enough. But okay, I can see the point of limiting the lounge chairs on the public beach, but then I went to the staff person that was at the public beach and asked him for a couple towels. He apologized and said they were out, but to come back in 10 minutes or so and he would have towels. I stopped back in another 20 minutes, and he still didn't have any towels. And it did not appear that he remembered that he told me he would have the towels. We gave up on the public beach and moved to the pool. One other item I was disappointed with was the main bar (not the bar near the private beach) area. It's a beautiful bar, with a great view. However there are approximately a dozen chairs around the bar. The bar is triangular shaped, and could easy accommodate more than double the chairs they currently have. However, the night my husband and I stopped by the bar to have a drink, there were no seats at the bar, and there was a wine tasting going on next to the bar so the extra sofas/chairs were in use with the wine tasting. The closest place to sit was a lounge chair near the pool. The resort was not full, so I know it wasn't the "crowds". These are minor items yes, but in my mind they separate a four star rating from a five star rating.

"Amazing Resort in EVERY Aspect!"

My wife and I just got back from our amazing Honeymoon where we stayed 4 nights at Arenas Del Mar! This place is beyond memorable, from the employees to the room to the views to the food and drink. They really know how to treat their patrons. We met a lot of great employees there, and they wait on you hand and foot! We got to know the people there so well we ended up being able to play music with them on the beach when they found out we enjoyed playing instruments on our last night! The food is all fresh fruit and homemade and tastes amazing! The only downfall that we had is the 2 and a half hour car ride from San Jose Airport to the resort. But when you get there, you realize why the drive is so long. They are positioned perfectly and give you a great area to explore with jungle and city. I highly recommend doing some excursions. This really gives you a great feeling of what Costa Rica has to offer. You get to see so many rainforest animals on the property as well! We will be planning many trips back here as soon as we possibly can!

"Beautiful & Unique Property - well worth it!"

This is place amazing. The property is quite large so they drive you around in golf carts to get from once point to another. You can just call from your room and someone will come pick you up within minutes. There is plenty of parking if you have a rental. The property is beautiful and there are trails you can explore. There is a small private beach which is worth checking out, but not as nice as the main beach. The main beach is a quick golf cart ride to the entrance. You then walk a short walk on a trail to the beach. There is a security booth where you can pick up towels and beach chairs. The beach is very long so it's great for boogey boarding or surfing. When we were there, there was a guy renting boogey boards and surfboards. If I recall correctly, it was $5 for 1 hour or $10 for the whole day for a boogey board. Well worth it because the waves were perfect for this kind of activity and the beach is really long with nice sand. Sometimes you can even see monkeys in the trees. It's a bit of a walk to the national park and to restaurants (20-25 minutes), but worth it to explore. We also booked a private guided tour of Manuel Antonio. They misquoted us the price and then tried to charge us more, but we called this out and they fixed it. The guide was very helpful in helping us spot animals and brought a scope so we could see close up. Breakfast is included, but a la carte. The food was very good, but the portions were not huge. We drove out and ate at some of the different restaurants nearby for dinners. The room is comfortable, spacious, and the bathroom is very nice with an open shower and a lot of space. Our room had a balcony with some snacks and some beverages in the small fridge included. We bought more beer at a local market and stored it in there. I highly recommend this place for both beach time and exploration of the national park!
