The staff at this hotel were great. I wanted to spend day in London so they kept my bags at no extra charge. The lights in the room were a little different to operate and I felt hotel staff at check in should have notified me. All in All I would definitely stay there again.

The online pictures accurately reflect the amazing atmosphere of the lobby and hotel bar at the Grand Royale Hyde Park. There's a wonderful sitting area including a window seat and free internet with the dark wood, leather furniture, chandeliers and stained glass windows to make you feel like you're in Downton Abbey. The bar used to be a small theater […] and is equally plush. Once you head up the elevator the atmosphere shifts to one more typical of a small non-chain London hotel -- efficiency. We stayed in a queen-sized room and it was just big enough to fit the furniture with such little room around it that even a small person has to turn sideways to get past items. Other than the size, however, the room was very nice and clean -- updated modern furniture and bathroom fixtures, a nice TV. There was no mini-bar or any other extra amenities with our room, but it was a great place to just get some rest after a long day in London, and you can use the lobby if you need a little more breathing room. The location was perfect for us, on Hyde Park, close to Kensington, and one block from the Queensway tube station that will take you straight to many popular areas. Other stations for other tube lines are nearby as well. We did have to change tube lines a few times to get to certain attractions, or walk about 45 minutes (through Hyde Park - a nice walk!) to get to the Buckingham Palace area, etc. but the area surrounding the hotel had a few legitimate cafes as well as some tourist shops. Super small rooms even for London standards. Full size bed not queen as described. Basically full bed in room and that is it. Barely any room around the bed to walk around. Almost every time in lobby a guest was complaining. The hotel seems to put hotels.com and online bookings in worst rooms. Saving the best rooms for those who book with the hotel […] direct. Hotel is around the block from the Bayswater tube stop, very convenient. The neighborhood is quiet, near some restaurants and a shopping mall. The lobby is ornate and the rooms are modern. All pictures that I saw online were accurate. The room had just enough to space walk around the comfy queen sized bed, so its small. Like step over your suitcase […] to get into bed, small. There is a wardrobe with some hangers but the wardrobe is about 6 inches deep, so you can't hang up clothes and shut the door. The bed had some hairs in it, mirrors with fingerprints, dirt smudges on the light switches and bathroom door. So it was more dirty than I expected. The shower, which had good water pressure and heat, has no curtain but a 6 inch glass partition and water can splash out easily. The room above us had issues with this and water dripped into our bathroom. It's a no smoking hotel, but our floor and room smelled smoky many of the nights we were there. The room key card also deactivated itself everyday. The wireless internet is only in the lobby. Wired internet is in the room and cord is included. Hair dryer is in the desk drawer. No lock on the pocket door into the bathroom and no deadbolt on the room door. When telling the front desk about the smoke or key issues they were dismissive, saying that just happens sometimes. Our room was in the basement. Really small as many hotel rooms in London. The shower emanated sewer smell. After asking to change it they told me there were no other rooms of that price category. After opening the windows the smell went away but not my anger.

This hotel had easy walks to two underground stations and Hyde Park. Lots of restaurants and shops nearby too. The lobby was as lovely as pictured but our room was in the nondescript basement. Upstairs would be nicer but it was clean and fairly quiet in good location.

The Grand Royale was in a nice location. The room was small but it was fine for one night. I personally did not have any problems with the hotel, but as I was waiting to be checked in, I heard two different guests that has to be relocated due to overbooking.

The Location is great, but the rooms are VERYYYY small, and with very narrow door entrance and 3 stairs. But i did not use the room except for sleeping , i didn't care.The Hotel has a very beautiful old days style lobby and reception.

The Grand Royale Hyde Park London represents a perfect hotel for a seasoned traveler. Anyone expecting bespoke customer service and a room the size of an American Holiday Inn should look elsewhere. However, if you are seeking prime location, unique and historical building, modern and clean rooms, with very fair pricing (just under a hundred a night […] for a 'single) and adequately friendly staff - this is the place. The rooms are 'tight' for someone not used to staying in an older/vintage city hotel room (much like NYC or Chicago). The rooms are clean, quiet and safe. I loved the remodeled bathroom (which was quite roomy). Two tube stops (Bayswater and Queensway) are within one block, not to mention the bus lines, and less than 2 blocks to a Barclays Bicycle stand (truly the best way to get around Hyde Park and the rest of London if you are comfortable). This hotel is tituated just off of Hyde Park and close to transportation and shops and restaurants. The staff is great and the rooms are nicely furnished although the "single" room truly meets the old Brisich saying that's it is not large enough to swing a cat. I understand the economy of scale but sometimes it can be overdone.

The lobby is beautiful and very ornate. An although the room was quite small, it was pleasant enough and seemed like decent value. Unfortunately my room was at the back of the hotel and the entire back wall of the room was basically windows. The blinds on the windows were translucent (and one was broken) and with all the ambient light from the street, […] my room never got dark. Together with the time change, that was havoc on my circadian rhythms. I barely slept at all. A bedroom needs to be dark! I was in London for business so, after a day of meetings, I just wanted to come back to the hotel rest a little and go out to dinner close by. This hotel has a great location. The building is steeped in history and architecture. The staff is great! The rooms are EXTREMLY small but newly renovated. Now for the disaster - I work as a retail consultant so I find the situation perplexing - The management is a disaster...no follow up, they pass the buck from one to the other, they use each other […] as an excuse, they talk down to the staff. Usually when you have this behavior within management it infects the staff, thankfully the virus hasn’t spread! Of the several issues (lost laundry, poorly laundered shirts, and forgotten room service orders) the worst was that none of my business colleagues or I were able to use Outlook to check our mail and work from the hotel because of blocked ports in there router. When we asked them to review this giving them the technical solution on the first day nothing was done. We had to repeat the problem and solution to every manager at the desk for the next 3 days. On the 4th day their IT support guy appeared and gave us the simple response that it was due to company policy and that he had no idea why. When we asked why a hotel that caters to business people would block internet access to our corporate email accounts they couldn't give us an answer. They advertise internet access but for what? Of all my hotel stays around the world I have never seen email access blocked. Read more

The wifi, a necessity for us, worked well. The room was clean and comfortable. My stay was like a joke. Altough I booked a deluxe room and mentioned it four times, they gave me a compact room, then I went to reception again and they changed my room which was 30 cm bigger than the compact one, rooms are very very small. Then when I wanted to have a shower, the water pressure was very low, I called reception and the day after day […] said they fixed that, but no, it was a lie. again I said it again, again they said they fixed but nope. Also the windows are very bad, you can hear everything from the outside. The room was cold also, they gave me a heater so I couldn't walk at the room. The Hotel was pretty, however the front desk service was not. I called for extra towels 3 times before I actually recieved them. At check out I found out I had a smaller room than I booked and asked for a refund for the difference and got the 3 degree about it. It was like the clerk would get fired for a refund. Rooms and bathrooms seem to have been updated recently. The graciousness of the front desk personnel made up for not being able to answer all my touristy questions. Loved the apples that were always provided in a bowl at the front desk. The public computer (with internet access) saved my life and vacation.

I put my mother up in this hotel while she visited me in London for a week. The room was very comfortable and the staff were friendly and efficient. The building and reception area are quite grand - sort of a Victorian London club atmosphere (the building was allegedly built as a present for a royals mistress) which makes it a more interesting place […] to stay than many other hotels in the area. The only issue with the hotel is that the lifts can be a bit temperamental which may be an issue for less mobile guests. Our room was not available - we were first told we'd be sent to another one of their properities in the area but then given two seperate rooms with single beds - each room was approximately the size of a large closet. The room I was given was missing a power outlet cover and the toilet seat was loose. I really want to recommend this hotel. On the surface, it should have been perfect -- great location, stylish and well-kept, up-to-date features in rooms. It really should be ideal. But things just didn't go well for us here. We were staying 5 nights. On the night we checked in, the elevators were acting very flaky. As we were on the 8th floor, this […] was troubling. The wifi in our room was not working well at all. I got a solid connection, but the network itself was unusable. The big problem, though, showed itself on our first morning. No hot water. I called down to the front desk and they said they had a problem getting hot water to the 8th floor. Not sure why, our water pressure was great -- just no hot at all. They gave us the key to a room of someone who had checked out (but the room was not yet cleaned) for us to shower in. So we had to walk through the lobby to get to the room in which we would shower. This was not great, but they said it would be fixed by the next morning. The next morning came, and we still had no hot water. I called the front desk and they said it would be fixed within 30 minutes. An hour later, we just took cold showers and headed out for the day. On our return, we found we still had no hot water, so they moved us to a new room on the 7th floor. We confirmed the existence of hot water. However, the next morning, we discovered the shower in that room had no pressure. And when I say "no pressure" I mean it -- you had to take the shower handle off the holder and hold it around waist high to get a trickle of water to flow. Sure, we had warm water, but it wasn't coming out. (The sink worked fine). So we asked to be moved again, and when we got back from our day out they had put us on the first floor. This room had good water pressure, good water temp. It was decidedly smaller. Also, the shower curtain was way too big for the stall, such that it bunched up and blocked the drain - which meant the shower overflowed on our first morning using Read more

This is a historic hotel, right next to Hyde park and a few train stations away from most downtown attractions. You can also walk to Paddington Station - convenient for the flight home so you don't have to buy a rail pass that day. The hotel is pretty, and the rooms updated. Strange that the bathroom has no shower curtain; water went everywhere when showering. My room had a few unfortunate problems: subground level with people talking and smoking outside it in the morning. Also, there was a wet spot on the floor that did not go away. I would have asked for another room, but was busy and didn't mind too much. The staff were quick to address problems I did bring up though, and tried to be helpful. It was situated on very busy noisy road no double glazing. Our room had lots of stairs to get to the bed not easy to carry cases up. The noise from the old floorboards is not good after being kept up all night by the antics of the couple above us.
