"a few days in London"
hotel was a pleasant surprise. Located close to two tube stops. Several choices for dinner. Staff was great. Bed was comfortable, room typical small size for London. We had 2 rooms and stayed 3 nights.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Exactly how the hotel was described! Perfect location! Safe! Defintely would stay there again!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very convenient but uncomfortable"
If you intend to spend significant amount of time in your room.....this is not for you. Room is very small I have to move the coffee maker around to make my coffee or if I have to move my luggage around. There's hardy any room for a large suitcase. WiFi is spotty in room. I was even told that the complimentary WiFi is in lobby only although it's not […] mentioned in the website. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Nice clean room near Hyde Park"
Nice clean room near Hyde Park. Great location near Hop on Hop Off Bus. The hotel is older and a the lobby and halls are a bit run down. But the room was clean. Had a great little bath room. The staff was helpful and friendly. Only thing is the room we had was very small - cruise ship size - or even a bit smaller. It was as expected in this part of […] London. We would stay here again. "Pleasant Surprise in Bayswater"
My wife and I had a very pleasant stay in a beautiful hotel in a great and convenient neighborhood. Yes, our room was small but we knew that going in. Great lobby, cute little bar, and everyone was lovely...Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Quiet neighborhood, little modern rooms."
Hotel is around the block from the Bayswater tube stop, very convenient. The neighborhood is quiet, near some restaurants and a shopping mall. The lobby is ornate and the rooms are modern. All pictures that I saw online were accurate. The room had just enough to space walk around the comfy queen sized bed, so its small. Like step over your suitcase […] to get into bed, small. There is a wardrobe with some hangers but the wardrobe is about 6 inches deep, so you can't hang up clothes and shut the door. The bed had some hairs in it, mirrors with fingerprints, dirt smudges on the light switches and bathroom door. So it was more dirty than I expected. The shower, which had good water pressure and heat, has no curtain but a 6 inch glass partition and water can splash out easily. The room above us had issues with this and water dripped into our bathroom. It's a no smoking hotel, but our floor and room smelled smoky many of the nights we were there. The room key card also deactivated itself everyday. The wireless internet is only in the lobby. Wired internet is in the room and cord is included. Hair dryer is in the desk drawer. No lock on the pocket door into the bathroom and no deadbolt on the room door. When telling the front desk about the smoke or key issues they were dismissive, saying that just happens sometimes. "Basement rooms that stinks"
Our room was in the basement. Really small as many hotel rooms in London. The shower emanated sewer smell. After asking to change it they told me there were no other rooms of that price category. After opening the windows the smell went away but not my anger.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
everything was so good , clean & the internet access in the lobby is pefect with a printer. I have read about the room being so small , but it was beyond my expectations. you can hardly walk in the room & very limited sapce to put your clothes & luggageGenuine Expedia guest review
This hotel had easy walks to two underground stations and Hyde Park. Lots of restaurants and shops nearby too. The lobby was as lovely as pictured but our room was in the nondescript basement. Upstairs would be nicer but it was clean and fairly quiet in good location.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"One night stay in London"
The Grand Royale was in a nice location. The room was small but it was fine for one night. I personally did not have any problems with the hotel, but as I was waiting to be checked in, I heard two different guests that has to be relocated due to overbooking.Genuine Expedia guest review
Never got past the lobby which was dingy and old. Some problem with the rooms--had to be moved to another hotel wasting about 1 1/2 hours of precious time in London.Genuine Expedia guest review

"SMALL ROOMS, GREAT LOCATION"
The Location is great, but the rooms are VERYYYY small, and with very narrow door entrance and 3 stairs. But i did not use the room except for sleeping , i didn't care. The Hotel has a very beautiful old days style lobby and reception.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Perfect location and price"
The Grand Royale Hyde Park London represents a perfect hotel for a seasoned traveler. Anyone expecting bespoke customer service and a room the size of an American Holiday Inn should look elsewhere. However, if you are seeking prime location, unique and historical building, modern and clean rooms, with very fair pricing (just under a hundred a night […] for a 'single) and adequately friendly staff - this is the place. The rooms are 'tight' for someone not used to staying in an older/vintage city hotel room (much like NYC or Chicago). The rooms are clean, quiet and safe. I loved the remodeled bathroom (which was quite roomy). Two tube stops (Bayswater and Queensway) are within one block, not to mention the bus lines, and less than 2 blocks to a Barclays Bicycle stand (truly the best way to get around Hyde Park and the rest of London if you are comfortable). "Great location, small room"
This hotel is tituated just off of Hyde Park and close to transportation and shops and restaurants. The staff is great and the rooms are nicely furnished although the "single" room truly meets the old Brisich saying that's it is not large enough to swing a cat. I understand the economy of scale but sometimes it can be overdone.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Curtains, Curtains, Curtains"
The lobby is beautiful and very ornate. An although the room was quite small, it was pleasant enough and seemed like decent value. Unfortunately my room was at the back of the hotel and the entire back wall of the room was basically windows. The blinds on the windows were translucent (and one was broken) and with all the ambient light from the street, […] my room never got dark. Together with the time change, that was havoc on my circadian rhythms. I barely slept at all. A bedroom needs to be dark! I was in London for business so, after a day of meetings, I just wanted to come back to the hotel rest a little and go out to dinner close by. That meant I eat on Queensway, which is an absolutely vulgar street. So maybe it would have been better for me to be in a different neighborhood. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great Hotel & Staff - Mgmt is a BUST"
This hotel has a great location. The building is steeped in history and architecture. The staff is great! The rooms are EXTREMLY small but newly renovated. Now for the disaster - I work as a retail consultant so I find the situation perplexing - The management is a disaster...no follow up, they pass the buck from one to the other, they use each other […] as an excuse, they talk down to the staff. Usually when you have this behavior within management it infects the staff, thankfully the virus hasn’t spread! Of the several issues (lost laundry, poorly laundered shirts, and forgotten room service orders) the worst was that none of my business colleagues or I were able to use Outlook to check our mail and work from the hotel because of blocked ports in there router. When we asked them to review this giving them the technical solution on the first day nothing was done. We had to repeat the problem and solution to every manager at the desk for the next 3 days. On the 4th day their IT support guy appeared and gave us the simple response that it was due to company policy and that he had no idea why. When we asked why a hotel that caters to business people would block internet access to our corporate email accounts they couldn't give us an answer. They advertise internet access but for what? Of all my hotel stays around the world I have never seen email access blocked. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice, Clean, and Convenient!"
Yes, the rooms are small. Once you get used to the fact that most European hotel rooms are small, you will love this hotel. The wood paneling in the lobby and staircase is outstanding. The wifi, a necessity for us, worked well. The room was clean and comfortable. The bathroom contained a shower/tub combo (with HOT water!), toilet, and a large bowl sink. […] There are two underground stations nearby: Queensway and Bayswater. There are souvenir shops and restaurants on the way to the underground stations (skip the expensive hotel breakfast!). "Good location - sub par service"
Why it gets 4 stars is beyond me because nothing but the lobby deserves it. We arrived after 1800 on a Friday night and told we had been "upgraded" to the Cub Room. It was more like a downgrade. We had booked a room with a Queen sized bed but got a double bed and there was barely a foot of space beside each bed, and it's RIGHT next to the 1st floor […] stairs and the Staff Room. The toilet had not been cleaned and when we asked someone clean it, we were told the cleaners had gone home and we put up with a dirty toilet until the next day. If the cleaners had gone home, who was in and out of the room next to us all the time. We would have done it ourselves, except there was nothing to use! The hairdryer short circuited after the first use and when the air conditioning was on, black particles came out of it and all over the sheets, so we had to have it off and the room was hot at night. The 4 pillows they provided for the bed were hard and we had to end up using the sofa cushions they'd placed on the bed as decoration so we didn't wake up with headaches. There was no room service available no restaurant in house, so it was lucky the area had great services. We booked a cab to the airport for a specific time and then had to rebook it, but the hotel staff didn't bother rebooking it for the new time like we'd ask, so we had to sit and wait all the extra time. The last night we were there, we had to put up with a banging happening every 2 minutes, like someone was slamming a door. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Wouldn't stay here with a family"
Fine for business for a few days. Common areas are a bit tired. The bed is fine, bathroom clean, room clean. However, very, very small. Quite a few tourists. Can be a bit noisy after midnight. Could hear every footstep of the people in room above.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Not impressed with our arrival greeting...we found out we had no breakfast plan, despite the fact we had paid for it. Got that sorted out, and got our breakfasts without additional costs. Third floor rooms are small, but that can be typical Europe. Did not like style of the shower; very short barrier wall between shower head and rest of tiny bathroom. Hi, overall stay was good. Just very dissapointed that hotel did not warn us about the demonstration which took place in the city on Sept 7th (though it was a planned demostration and hotels should had known about it several days in advance). We got to the hotel and were told we had to go to another as they didn't have a room for us, so I can only rate the hotel we stayed in in paddington the Shaftesbury best western, it was awful, room was too small, asked for a larger room we couldn't even put our bags into it or move... Got a larger room and the air conditioner didn't work complained […] at midnight we couldn't sleep, we were changed rooms yet again, and finally they got it right in a club room, it was fine and clean, small beds a double.... "Be VERY aware of the room you get"
Be VERY aware of the room you get. I don't know about the CLUB rooms, they may be better, however we stayed in a SUPERIOR room that was only superior at how bad it was. Marks on walls, peeling paint, power sockets leaning out of the wall in the bathroom, cracked & peeling paint, worn paintwork, red/brown drop marks about the hand basin, could not open […] cupboard doors so could not access safe, no fridge (later found out only CLUB rooms have these, in a 4* hotel, really?) so many grubby marks on light switches etc, mould/grime around shower base, broken handle on shower sliding door, bed size more like double not queen, could hardly fit around 2 sides of the bed, sheets didn't fit on the bed, duvet/doona too small, paint on walls, pencil marks on door frames left over from fitting locks, gaffer tape on window to seal it, but it was peeling off anyway, wood filler on window sills that wasn't smoothed off or even painted, and numerous other items. Have taken photos for evidence. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Very unfriendly staff. Asked the bill in advance (first hotel in my life despite i travel a lot) and after i paid they comunicated that my room was in the basement. A shock!!!!The room was new and clean but very noisy: you could hear noise from the street and the water from everybody doing their shower in the rooms upstairs. "Grand Royal London Hyde Park is not so grand after"
We have booked this hotel through Expedia and paid for it at least 2 months in advance. When we arrived, the front desk informed us that because of some maintenance work they did not have a room for us and they would like to send us to a nearby hotel. After a long journey from Canada, we were not very pleased to walk in the heat to a nearby hotel which […] proved to be totally unacceptable. My husband stayed with the luggage and I came back to Grand Royal to tell them that after keeping our payment for two months, this was not a fair approach to tell us that there is no room available for us and we were not prepared to stay at a hotel of their choosing. Well, after that conversation, miracoulusly there was a cancellation and we were able to get a room for the duration we planned to stay. It certainly was not a good start. "Aggressive reception staff and tiny rooms"
Overall a bad experience: - check in - at my arrival, at around 11am, I was told to wait until a room would be ready, which I thought was fair since check in was officially only at 14:00. At 12:00, they started checking everyone that arrived in and forgot me waiting in the lobby, until I came to them at 14:00 wondering why that was happening. The explanation: […] they just did not know I was waiting. Bad start. - Then arrived at my room, a tiny, but I mean tiny as in 2m by 1.5m. It literally fits one narrow single bed tuck to a corner and there is a couridor of half a meter by the bed where you stand by a table, also full of things. Basically, there is no space for anything. It feels like those vertical hotels in Japan that you crawl your way into your room. - But the lowest of my stay was on the check out, when one of the ladies at reception gave me terrible attitude, crowning the whole experience with a quite bad taste in my mouth. "A good option"
Overall, we were happy with the accommodations but when we go back to London we will likely try another hotel. We stayed for 4 nights in July. The location worked well for us but the rooms are very small (I say this after a 25 day European holiday, staying in 4 and 5 star hotels in 6 cities. These rooms were the smallest of the trip). There is very […] little space between the bed and the walls and the other furniture in the room. I'm petite and I found it a tight squeeze. The hotel is in need of a few updates as well. They must realize this because when we checked in, they gave us a room that had just been painted... I mean just painted (the smell of fresh paint was very strong and the trim had clearly not been finished). The room was on level "0". DO NOT stay on level "0". The rooms are small, awkward shapes and have horrible views of a garbage area). We had to stay in the freshly painted room the first night but they moved us to a room on the 4th floor (the Club floor) for the remainder of our stay and left roses to make amends (nice touch). The club level room wasn't any bigger but it had a better layout and better view. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Did not have a mini bar as stated on our confirmation. Spoke to reception who were a little rude. We were then moved to a room with a mini fridge which did not get cold. "Not so Grand"
I arrived at the Grand Royale and was delighted by the beautiful reception area that was indeed quite grand in appearance. The room, however was another story. It was incredibly tiny, for an advertised "Superior Queen" room it was in fact a double bed in a shoebox. I didn't expect it to be lavish but the effort put in these rooms is minimal. Shampoo […] and showergel are provided but none of the little extras like vanity kits or a shower cap or bathrobes are provided and the shower does not have a screen or curtain so water tends to go everywhere. The worst part, to my horror, was discovering a previous guest had expelled a certain body fluid on the curtains in the room right next to the bed. The matter took 3 days to resolve with reception first suggesting I find the manager to discuss the issue, then offering to clean the curtains by simply removing them and failing to replace them at all. I was finally offered an apology and an upgrade to a "Club Room". This new room was clean and had those little extras like a shower cap, vanity kit and bathrobes but the shower/bath combo still had no screen. The club room also overlooks a carpark so dont bother trying to see out the window. One saving grace is that the breakfast buffet £15 a day extra was quite appetising and more affordable than most london cafes in terms of quantity. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

The hotel is very nice. I loved the decor, old style. The location is great, but it is a very busy area and I would not recommend during summer, as it is packed with tourists. There is a subway station closed by. "Lovely and friendly modern hotel"
Friendly hotel staff who were happy to help and answer any questions that we had. The foyer was perhaps a little aged but one could appreciate its past grandeur. Room was small but modern with a comfy bed, excellent bathroom and all the normal amenities that would be expected of a 4 star hotel. There was a large TV in the room and enough space for one […] large suitcase/2 smaller cases. The hotel had a small bar, which was very nicely done up with plush leather chairs and atmospheric lighting. The hotel was easy to find and easily accessible from Queensway tube station and gets you right into the middle of London quickly. Alternatively, nearby Hyde Park is beautiful and is great if you're looking to walk to your destination.
