"beautifully restored hotel"

"A gem in a remote county"
This was our second stay at the Tallman Hotel. Once again, we were impressed with the high quality of the accommodation, the excellent restaurant on site, and the hospitality of the staff. The beautiful rooms rival the most unique and luxurious accommodations anywhere. And to think that this oasis is in the remote Lake County is amazing. It is a reason […] to make the journey to Lake County, in addition to the blooming wine industry and uncommercialized charm of the area. A unique and high quality property with excellent amenities. Napa valley quality B and B. Great location for exploring Clear Lake area. Great little restaurant on site. Facilities attractive and well maintained. We have stayed twice and will be back.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"amazing hotel in a shabby town."
We arrived in the afternoon, tallman staff showed us to our room. Check in was simple and easy, staff was courteous and efficient. The room was immaculate, perfectly restored molding, clean linen and windows. The bathroom and shower were also sparkling. The room felt warm and cozy, perfect for a weekend getaway. We decided to go for a walk around the […] town. We passed friendly but drunk folks sitting in front of what could have been very cute shops. The town is run down and very strange. We retreated back to the tallman. There was live music and a great menu at the tallman's restaurant. We found that you must make reservations on live music nights or you are stuck with outside seating. There were heaters, but it was too cold for me. So we ordered our food and they eagerly brought it to our lovely room. The food was great, the service just as good, overall I was very satisfied with our experience. I would go back for a cozy night, curled up in bed, but my husband was not impressed with the town. I will still try to talk him into it. The lake is beautiful as was the drive. Don't expect much from the town and expect a lot from the tallman and you are sure to enjoy! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"A night lost in timelessness!"

What a lovely find! A friend called to make reservations for us as we were sailing on Clear Lake. This is a historic hotel dating back to the 1870's with the abandoned livery stable next door. It has been restored to a "great hotel." Some of the rooms have balconies overlooking a lovely garden. If you want a treat, a few of the rooms have Japanese style tubs. They serve a breakfast in the hotel's dinning room with home baked scones and breads served on linen table cloths with china not plastic. Even better, there is a very nice restaurant on the property with indoor and outdoor dining, a full bar and some evenings they bring in music. I had one of the best burgers cooked perfectly medium rare. Only complaint was the wine chilled in refrigerator was not a complimentary one like the hotel we stayed in Calistoga. Loved this spot!
"Lovely,beautifully appointed, charming"

I loved almost everything about this special historic hotel in the hills and around Clear Lake, California. Exquisitely redone, everything about the interiors is lovely, soothing and comfortable. Many high-end touches without being 'snooty'. Very good taste in every detail and so unexpected in this very quiet location! The only drawbacks are the depressed area around the gorgeous lake, which you can almost forget once you are on the grounds. The. area seems sparsely occupied and very few businesses open, so once you wander a few yards off the hotel grounds, you feel you are in a time warp! In a way, that was appealing too, but just totally unexpected. The grounds are wonderfully planted...we didn't have a room with the soaking tub, but I can imagine that if you are in need of quiet, solitude and comfort, the Tallman could be the answer! We were disappointed in dinner after reading reviews...it seemed clumsily done compared to the rest of the ambience of the hotel. We decided we were just very tired after our day because many other reviews were complimentary of the food. The courtyard is beautiful and wonderful to linger in. The breakfast was beautifully presented and the dining room has a wonderful mural hand painted on every wall and a little extra touch on the ceiling.
"A quirky hotel in a quirky location"

Lake County, an over-looked corner of northern California, is ideally located between wine country and the giant redwood forests, close to the Sierra's and California's beautiful coastline, north of San Francisco. We stopped in on a road trip from down south to the Pacific Northwest, but we were sorry that we didn't plan more time in this beautiful locale. The town of Upper Lake is regrettably a rather sad place with a main street that leaves the distinct impression that the entire town is up for sale. An exception is the historic Tallman Hotel. Beautifully restored and maintained, a cross between a boutique hotel and a B&B. The staff are friendly, informative and helpful. The adjacent Blue Wing Saloon provides excellent food and frequently, live music
"Great hotel and restaurant-location not so much"

We spent three nights at the Tallman, recuperating from our son's wedding. The hotel is beautiful and nicely furnished, and we liked the Blue Wing Saloon as well. The staff is also very nice. The town of Upper Lake, however, is not doing well--more than half the storefronts are unoccupied. This is also true of the other towns around Clear Lake, which surprised us because the scenery in the area is quite beautiful, and the lake is an easy two hour drive frowm San Francisco. The Tallman is a great place to stay if you need to be in the area or if you just want to relax--or if you like small wineries or casinos (there are two casinos within a mile of the hotel.) If you're looking for other activities or tourist-friendly sites, though, there isn't much in the area.

We stayed one night in this lovely hotel. We enjoyed the room and the slightly odd -car wash style - shower. The staff were ultra friendly and helpful. Breakfast had plenty of variety and served in a charming dining room. We played a gig at the hotel and ate at the restaurant next door which was also just fine.

Just got back from a weekend at the Tallman for the Lake County Wine Festival. The grounds are lovely and well maintained and all amenities are top notch. Staff is courteous and helpful. Food while sitting in the courtyard is delicious and in a lovely atmosphere. To call this a hotel is really isn't right - this is an exotic B&B that happens to have a lot of rooms. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and recommend the Tallman to anyone that wants to come back at the end of the day to a serene and restful place that takes good care of you. Make your booking well in advance because this place goes quickly!
"Fantastic hotel and restaurant"

Absolutely wonderful hotel and dining experience. Immaculate room, super friendly and helpful staff, beautiful gardens, delightful pool, and incomparable meals in the tree-shaded outdoor dining area at the Blue Wing Saloon. Would go back in a heartbeat.
"Paradise in nowhere's ville"

For luxury, comfort, and extremely pleasant service, the Tallman was first-rate. We had a large garden room with a deck and an Ofuro soaking tub--bliss after a grueling day on I-5. We never made it to the pool. The breakfast was deluxe by continental standards: fresh fruit, house-made granola, yogurt, hard-cooked eggs, scones and other pastries, good coffee. Blink and you'll miss the tiny town it's in--take a walk down the short main street (or look over the back wall of a garden room) and you'll be depressed by the implosion of small-town America. But this is a special-occasion place that really delivers and is well worth a detour, even if, like us, you're not really B&B people. Come and be spoiled.
"Awesome wine weekend"

Stayed here for the weekend. Had a veranda room in the hotel. Quiet, comfy beds, wonderful bath. Great breakfast in the morning. Attentive staff. Wonderful food right next door. Has a pool/ spa area. Sat on the veranda outside my room in the evening.
"Great new find!"

I bought a night's stay at the Tallman Hotel at a silent auction fundraiser. I had never even heard of the place. I took my 91 year old Mom for a birthday gift. We both LOVED the place. The staff was very friendly and efficient. The amenities were excellent, including the Molton Brown of London bath and body products in the rooms. WOW. Restaurant next door was also really good food and service. And the Tallman's own "continental breakfast" will really impress you, whether you get it in their very pretty dining room or delivered personally to your room. (Get extra scones!!) Wonderful small town ambiance which my Mom really appreciated. But a short drive to lovely Clear Lake, California, and absolutely drop dead fabulous grounds of the Brassfield's Vineyard and Winery which are really worth seeing. Thanks to the Tallman for making my Mom's birthday memorable.
